We return again to Murdo's favourite parable: The parable of the Sower. It comes with Murdo's favourite question to ask you: How's your heart? It is good to ask this searching spiritual question to examine our spiritual health. This parable helps to challenge us whether we are listening the God's Word and to remember that how we hear affects our hearts. Is your heart Hardened? Hollow? Hungry? or Healthy? Has it changed since Murdo last preached this sermon? If so, which one describes your heart today?

That's when demons walk the Earth, and nobody is truly safe... But Murdo McTaggart doesn't believe in superstitions like that, and he heads out to catch fish while the other villagers go to church. He'll come to regret that mistake as the Devil - Auld Clootie himself - comes to him in the form of 13 tone-deaf cats. Have a spooky time with today's Scottish folk tale! This week, we're chatting with an amazing human about amazing stuff. Okay, fine, every week we talk with amazing humans about amazing stuff, but this episode is a great one. Rebecca visits with Ashley Geigle, Economic Development Director for Murdo, South Dakota, about how she built a brand-new role from scratch. (Like, from scratch, like growing and milling the wheat for the flour level of scratch, not box mix scratch.) Ashley talks about learning through challenges, building trust, and finding beauty in small progress. She, like Justin Neppl, has reimagined what economic development looks like for her community and understands the importance of partners (like our beloved Dakota Resources!) for making things happen. Ashley proves that revitalization starts with relationships, persistence, and visible hope—even if it's just hanging garland on an empty building (Who doesn't love garland, though, really?) About Ashley: Ashley grew up in Murdo, attended SDSU for Hospitality and Hotel Management, spent a year in Hawaii, met her husband, had 4 babies, job hopped a few part-time positions, and began serving as Murdo's Economic Development Director in December 2020 with a clear goal: to help bring new business to town and revitalize Main Street. Since then, her organization has invested in critical training and development to elevate its impact across the community and region. The journey hasn't been without challenges, but through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to growth, they've continued moving forward. Ashley is especially grateful for the strong partnership with Dakota Resources, whose support has been instrumental through both the successes and the learning moments. When she's not doing economic development, Ashley enjoys traveling with her husband to meet up with friends wherever that might be, sitting on their deck with a cup of coffee in hand, or learning more about holistic wellness. She doesn't know what else to add in here—if you want something specific, shoot her a message

Lealand Schoon is a 28 year veteran of the NRCS and works as an Area Rangeland Specialist out of Murdo, SD. Leland also has some land, and runs 150 head of sheep along with 30 cows, putting the grazing management and soil biology expertise he has acquired to work. Lealand's ultimate question is “what is this action going to do for the soil biology?” We dive into some soil biology, but with the aim of how grazing management actually can increase photosynthesis and grass production and feed soil microbes. The heart of this discussion I imagine for the grazier is just to look at the terms like grazing readiness, partial defoliation, primary, secondary and fall tillers, rest and regrowth/recovery after defoliation – Lealand has a great way of explaining this wonderful mutualistic relationship that man, cattle and grass have with one another and how they interact with the elements. We discuss a lot of other things but at the end of the day, Lealand is a keen observer and was the first one to help me to look at rangeland with new eyes. Remember that access to knowledge of people like Lealand's is free through the NRCS please go to your closest NRCS office or visit them at https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/site/sd/home/
