Ce mercredi 10 juin, dans la Cover du #LeDriveRTL2, Margaux Lassalle revisite un classique incontournable de la musique canadienne : "Hand In My Pocket" d'Alanis Morissette. Sorti en 1995 sur l'album culte "Jagged Little Pill", ce morceau aborde avec justesse les contradictions de l'existence et l'idée que des états opposés peuvent cohabiter. À travers ses paroles, l'artiste rappelle qu'il est possible d'être fauché mais heureux, prouvant que l'on peut traverser une situation difficile tout en conservant un état d'esprit positif. Au fil des décennies, ce message universel a inspiré des réinterprétations aussi surprenantes que variées. Dès 1997, le présentateur de télévision Rolf Harris en propose une version décalée rebaptisée "One Hand in My Pocket". Vingt ans plus tard, les Américains d'Imagine Dragons la reprennent en chœur, de manière beaucoup plus littérale, sur leur album "Live At AllSaints Studios" (2017). Le titre démontre également sa capacité à changer radicalement d'énergie, que ce soit transformé en un hymne pop-punk ultra-dynamique par les Gallois de Punk Rock Factory, ou à travers la relecture plus brute livrée en 2023 par le groupe australien The Smith Street Band pour la radio triple j. Plus de trente ans après sa sortie, l'influence de "Hand In My Pocket" et de son album d'origine reste intacte, s'invitant même au cinéma. Le film canadien "Mile End Kicks", réalisé par Chandler Levack, suit d'ailleurs le parcours d'une jeune femme venue à Montréal pour écrire un livre sur "Jagged Little Pill". Pour la bande originale, c'est l'artiste américaine Poppy qui s'est prêtée au jeu de la reprise. S'éloignant totalement de son registre saturé habituel, elle offre une toute nouvelle dimension au classique d'Alanis Morissette en livrant une version particulièrement dépouillée et enveloppante. Nehemiah chapter 4 shows the intense opposition Nehemiah and the people face while rebuilding Jerusalem's walls. As enemies mock, threaten, and plot attacks, the people respond with prayer, vigilance, and determination. They continue the work while staying alert—building with one hand and holding a weapon with the other. Nehemiah encourages them not to fear, reminding them that God will fight for them. This chapter teaches that when doing God's work, opposition will come, but through prayer, unity, and perseverance, the mission will continue. It might have been the scariest moment of my life. I was only ten years old, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was with my friends in Lake Michigan. We started out just wading, but they kept getting deeper past the lake bottom where it dropped off. We started swimming. Well, not we because I didn't know how, and I was too embarrassed to tell them. And I started taking on water fast. I mean, I went under twice, and I was thrashing around. As for my buddies, they thought I was just clowning around. I wasn't! I was drinking the lake. And then he came - the man from the shore who saw my predicament and he jumped in to do something about it. He had come to rescue me. I grabbed him with both hands. I hung onto him as if he were my only hope, because He was. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "One Hand Short Of Heaven." As I've studied the Bible, I've learned that what happened to me that day at the lake is a picture of another life-or-death situation and the rescue on which a life depends. In this case, the life-or-death situation involves the entire human race. So, it's about you and me. The Bible reveals our true spiritual condition in hopes that we'll recognize it and take the only action that will save our souls. God's book says, "Your sins have separated you from your God" (Isaiah 59:2)...that we are "without God and without hope in this world" (Ephesians 2:12)... and that we are "dead in our sins." Sin is so much more than just breaking somebody's religious rules. It's defying Almighty God by ignoring His rule over our lives and doing what we want instead. And it's all of us, even the most religious person listening today. We differ only in the degree of our rebellion against our Creator, not in the reality of that rebellion or in its awful, eternal consequences. We are that little guy, drowning, with no hope of saving ourselves. Our only hope of avoiding certain death is the same as it was for me that day - a rescuer. And it's at that point that Jesus Christ comes off the pages of the history books and becomes a deeply personal issue for you and me. He saw we were dying, He left heaven's shore, and He jumped in to save us at the cost of His own life when He gave His life in exchange for ours on a cross. Our word for today from the Word of God, in John 3:18, spells out the difference between those who will be lost and those who will be rescued: "Whoever believes in Him (that's Jesus) is not condemned, but whoever does not believe in Him stands condemned already because He does not believe in the name of God's one and only Son." It isn't what you do with some religion or some set of beliefs that matters. It all comes down to what you do with Jesus - whether or not you believe in Him. In the original Greek word that's translated as "believe," it means to put your total trust in Jesus, to hold onto Him like a drowning person would hang onto his rescuer. I know about that. And take it from me, that's holding onto Him with both hands. Some people miss Him because they try to grab Jesus with just one hand - because there's something else in the other hand they don't want to let go of. But that's what the Bible calls "another god." And you can't hold Jesus with one hand and some junk He died for in the other. Believing in Jesus is grabbing Him with both hands, turning from, abandoning whatever else has been your hope. Maybe you've tried to turn to Jesus without turning from your sin, that other hope. Well, it's got to be a two-hand faith, grabbing Jesus with all your heart and both your hands. Here's a little marketing secret for us small professional service providers and solos: Consistency matters more than perfection. And yet, lots (lots) of individuals and even small firms pause their marketing when things get busy.

The Halacha below was derived from multiple classes orated by Rabbi Eli Mansour in the Bekiim B'Halacha series. Click on any of the recording dates below to hear the original audio files, which are the sources for today's Halacha below. 04/02/25 ; 04/03/25 ; 04/07/25 ; 04/09/25 ; 05/04/25 Which Arm Should a Person Use for Tefillin—And What If He Is Left-Handed, Ambidextrous, or Disabled? The Torah commands us to bind Tefillin "on your arm." But which arm? That question is settled by our Sages: the arm referred to is the weaker arm. So for a right-handed person, Tefillin go on the left arm, and for a left-handed person, they go on the right. This Halacha examines how the decision is made, and how the Halacha applies to left-handed people, those who are ambidextrous, and individuals with limited use of one arm due to injury, paralysis, or amputation. What Is the Halachic Rule for Determining Which Arm to Use? The verse says, "Ukeshartam le'ot al yadekha" — "You shall bind them as a sign upon your arm." The Sages explain that this means the hand opposite the writing hand. That's the basic rule. If you write with your right hand, the Tefillin go on your left arm. If you write with your left hand, they go on your right. This is how the Shulhan Aruch rules in Orah Haim 27:6. The Mishnah Berura follows the same position. The weaker hand is used for Tefillin, because the act of binding represents control and submission of our actions to Hashem — and this symbolism applies specifically to the hand that is not dominant. What If a Person Writes with One Hand but Does Most Tasks with the Other? This comes up a lot. Let's say someone writes with his left hand but eats, throws, and does everything else with his right. Which is his dominant hand? The general rule is that writing is the primary indicator of dominance. If a person writes with his left hand, he is considered left-handed for Halachic purposes — and he should wear Tefillin on his right arm. Even if he does many other things with his right hand, the fact that he writes with his left gives it priority in Halacha. That said, if there's real uncertainty — someone is truly mixed or doesn't feel natural with either — he should speak to a Rav. But in most cases, the writing hand decides the matter. What If a Person Is Ambidextrous? In a rare case where someone uses both hands equally and writes comfortably with both, the Halacha treats him like a righty, meaning the Tefillin should be worn on the left arm. That's the ruling in most Poskim. In cases of doubt, we follow rov — the majority — and most people are right-handed. What If a Person Loses Use of His Dominant Hand? If a person becomes permanently unable to use his dominant hand — due to stroke, nerve damage, or any other reason — and now functions primarily with the opposite hand, the Halachic ruling may change. That person is now treated as if his non-dominant hand has become dominant, and the Tefillin should be worn on the new weaker arm. I once had a case where a man lost full use of his right arm. He was born right-handed, but after an injury, he could no longer write, eat, or function with that arm. He was now doing everything with his left. In that case, we ruled that he was now a lefty and should put Tefillin on his right arm. If the condition is temporary, such as post-surgery or while recovering from an injury, the ruling stays as-is. But if the condition is permanent and the person's habits have shifted accordingly, the Halacha adapts. What If One Arm Has Been Amputated? If someone is missing one of his arms, this too affects how Tefillin is worn. - If a right-handed person has had his left arm amputated, then the usual placement of the Tefillin Shel Yad is impossible. - If there remains some muscle or upper-arm area, and the strap can be wrapped around it, the Tefillin may be placed there. - If nothing usable remains, the Tefillin Shel Yad cannot be worn — but the person should still wear the Tefillin Shel Rosh. This is a rare case, but one that arises. The general rule is that Tefillin must be placed on the upper arm in a specific position. If there's no limb, the Misva simply doesn't apply in that case — but one still fulfills the Misva of the Shel Rosh. Does This Apply Equally to Tefillin of Rabbenu Tam? Absolutely. Whether one is wearing Tefillin of Rashi, Rabbenu Tam, or both, the choice of arm follows the exact same rule. We don't differentiate based on which Tefillin you're wearing. The arm is chosen based on your dominant hand — period. Summary - Tefillin are worn on the weaker arm: left for righties, right for lefties. - The writing hand determines which arm is considered dominant. - Ambidextrous people are generally treated as right-handed and wear Tefillin on the left arm. - If a person permanently loses use of their dominant hand, the Halacha may shift and reclassify their status. - In cases of amputation, Tefillin are worn if possible on remaining muscle. If not, the Shel Rosh should be worn without the Shel Yad. - This applies equally to both Rashi and Rabbenu Tam Tefillin.
