So you all wanted to know what resources are available to you to help you with extra $$$$$I have to be honest, I'm still learning myself... but this is what I do know, and it is worth sharing. This episode explores the options available to Canadians: (1) The t2201-18e Disability Tax Credit Form & (2) Canada Pension Plan Disability Benefits As mentioned in the live, a great contact / resource for learning more, how to apply and guidance along the way is with a great accountant. If you are in the GTA and need an accountant who is familiar with these forms, please consider @rmpps.ca. So, I have never had much luck with employers regarding this conversation. But that doesn't mean you won't have a better experience! This episode is all about you, your workplace and how to achieve a desired outcome. I want you to feel empowered and protected. I want to help set you up for success. I talk about my personal experiences, what went wrong and how you can protect yourself by knowing your rights. This episode explores how you are protected by law, how to protect yourself in the long run, what accommodations are available to you and your options (if things don't go as planned) The workplace has not 'caught up' in terms of the mental health conversation. So let's discuss how we can set you up for the conversation. -trigger warnings for all videos- #mentalhealthawareness @mybipolarlifee #mentalhealth @realitybipolardisorder #mentalhealthdisorders #mentalillness @bipolar_2_life #mentalhealthsupport #bipolar #bipolardisorder @themhcc #bellletstalk @bellletstalk #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthcoach @themindhealthspot #karyninder @thementalcorner #selfcare #selflove @bringchangetomind #love #anxiety @not9to5_ #motivation #depression #health @madeofmillions #mentalhealthmatters @jackdotorg #life @theallwomxnproject #mindfulness @ml.kieffer #loveyourself @cmhanational #wellness #inspiration #healing #positivevibes #therapy #endthestigma @cmhatoronto @mentalhealthamerica #fightintheopen If you or someone you know would like to be on The Model Tongue Podcast, please get in contact with us! This is the #1 question I get at speaking events. "When should I tell my [boyfriend] [girlfriend] [partner] [friend] [etc] about my mental health?" In-patient care, whether short or long-term, can sound scary and intimidating. I would never want this to hold you back from receiving treatment. In this episode, I break down my experiences with in-patient care, including two short term stays and one long term stay. Between September 2011 - November 2011, I received treatment at @homewood, a psychiatric centre in Ontario, Canada. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself, it gave me a second chance at life and I am forever grateful. I actually still have my Homewood binder, full of all the materials I used during my stay! I break that bad boy open and give you a show and tell of what life is like in a long term treatment facility such as Homewood. What my day to day looked like, the classes I took and what I liked most about it. Cw: self harm Welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast, a podcast dedicated to providing a safe space to discuss the hard stuff, the taboo topics, the things that should be talked about...but aren't. Today I am joined by my friend Laura to discuss something that is largely misunderstood and highly stigmatized: Self Harm. In this episode, we share our experiences dealing with self harm, when we started, why we started and what we wish people knew about this unfortunately popular coping strategy. We break down how to stop self harming, things that have worked for us as well as the very real REAL about being in ‘remission' and everything that goes with that. We also talk about what you can do in a support role if you notice that a loved one or someone you know is self harming. I started showing signs of Bipolar Disorder around age 7. I was formally diagnosed (for the first time) at 14 years old. I didn't receive proper treatment until age 23. In this episode, I talk about what it was like to have paranoia at ~7 years old, how I started self harming at 9 and how I first experienced hallucinations at 10. It seems every age came with a new symptom, and help was never on the table. My entire life has been about survival. So how did I go from surviving to thriving? Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. Today, I chat with Zachary Miller about Life After Trauma: acceptance, awareness, accessing resources and moving forward. As a child, Zachary was kidnapped and sexually assaulted before escaping something that would shape him for the rest of his life. Now, he does what he can to raise awareness about child abuse in Canada and volunteers his time with Child Protection Services to make sure children of abuse and their families are supported when they need it the most. In this episode, we discuss lack of support as a survivor, severe lack of empathy in school and communities, navigating relationships and how you can live the life you want, despite what happened to you. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. In today's episode, I share my complicated IVF experience as someone who struggles with multiple Mental Health Disorders. This story ends well, but in my opinion, was unnecessarily cruel at times. I experienced first hand, how inaccessible reproductive health care can be for future or intended parents who struggle with their mental health. Claire helps me emphasize the importance of self advocacy and offers support as I share some things about my IVF cycle that never should have happened. I hope that my experiences will both educate and bring awareness to medical professionals in the fertility industry, on how they can be more inclusive and trauma informed. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. And we are back for Part 2 of Baking in Bikinis! I don't even know where to begin with this one. We started with showcasing our ice cream sammies & french crepes, but then spiraled into laughter and then crying? So much excitement...between Clem flipping her crepes (the suspense), dropping a knob of butter down her stove and my ugly laugh... it's action packed. There's a lot of gasping in this episode, authentic french crepe making is not for the faint of heart. Clem is wearing a one piece by Madewell and I am sporting a two piece by Londre. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. Today, I am so excited to announce my newest venture: Mental Health Coaching & Self Advocacy. This year I became overwhelmingly frustrated in how we approach mental health and mental wellbeing. Frustrated at how mental health disorders are approached, the layout of mental health courses and the attitudes within our families, social circles and workplaces. So I decided to do something about it, take this frustration and use it as inspiration to try and make life easier for those in our communities. For the past couple months I have dedicated all of my time and efforts to developing a service that would not only fill this gap, but change the way we perceive mental health and provide more options for crisis prevention opposed to crisis intervention. I am dedicated to shedding light on the two sides of this story: educating those who do not experience mental health disorders and empowering those who do. Lots more to come so be sure to check out everything that is new. Through the link in my bio you can subscribe to my mailing list and be sure to check out my new Patreon where you can sign up to take the first steps towards Self Advocacy. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. Welcome to the new year! Let's start it off proactively by preparing for tax season :) In this week's episode, Noreen shares information regarding the Disability Tax Credit. If you experience mental illness and/or a mental disability, you may qualify for this tax credit. So, what is the DTC? The Disability Tax Credit(DTC)is a non-refundable tax credit that helps persons with disabilities or their supporting persons reduce the amount of income tax they may have to pay. In this episode, we break down everything you need to know, from how to apply to how to self advocate for yourself, we hope we can make something that can be overwhelming a little more manageable! Also, we've included some important links below and here is a Step-By-Step guide to applying! Noreen's Notes: Step 1: download the form Step 2: fill out the first page of the form (Part A) with your information Step 3: print out entire doc with your info filled out Step 4: Make an appointment to talk about the form with your doctor or nurse practitioner, give them the document to fill out - they have to fill out Part B. notes: - Not everything on page 2, 3 and 4 need to be filled out, only fill out what applies to the applicant. - ALL of page 5 must be filled out by your Dr /nurse practitioner Step 5: Send the form to the CRA (I recommend sending it via courier so you can confirm it was delivered). The address you send it to depends on where you live, see page 6 for the addresses. Once you have sent it, you must wait for the CRA to respond and let you know their decision. This can take many months so be patient. They send a response via regular mail. If your application is denied, they will explain why on the notice of determination and options to challenge their decision. If you are approved, then you are normally approved 3-5 years into the future so you don't have to reapply every year. I recommend that you choose yes on page 1, section 3 so that the CRA can adjust your taxes for previous years for you. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. Today, we talk about children and their mental health. I wrote a post about this on my instagram (@karyninderr) but really wanted to go deeper here on The Model Tongue Podcast. When should we introduce mental health resources to our children? Are they capable of ‘overcoming' trauma and abuse? Children aren't always capable of expressing their mental health needs, it is up to us to be there for them, to help and support them- but what does that look like? Do they still need help if they are high functioning? I dissect this and more on this week's episode. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. Today, I wanted to talk about pet loss and grieving. Since losing my kitty Gerome last month, I have immersed myself in pet loss support groups and have spent the past couple weeks reading and listening to everyone's stories and experiences. It made me realize that grieving a pet is something we often do in silence, for fear it won't be understood or accepted. In this episode, Katie helps me shed light on the excruciating pain that is losing a bonded pet, what to do if you are deeply impacted as well as resources that you can contact if you need help. If you know someone who recently lost a pet, please consider sending them this podcast. Hey everyone! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast where we discuss all things mental health, mental illness, body positivity, self worth and the importance of finding your voice. Today I wanted to shed some light on super random things that could be negatively impacting your mental health. From breathing to eye tracking, I'm sure there will be things in here that you've never considered before! & Why is this conversation important? Well, I think it's important for us to know the origin of a lot of what we are feeling, because sometimes, depending on where it's originating from, we have better success by handling it differently. Are you irritated because of stress or because of constipation? Do you feel ‘mleh' because of anxiety, or because of PCOS? These are very important questions to ask yourself when deliberating on a treatment plan. Another great question is, are you making enough considerations on aspects of your life that will enable you to live a life of high quality? What haven't you considered? Hey everyone! Welcome back to The Model Tongue Podcast, I am your host, Karyn Inder. I made a post the other week talking about Anxiety and Anxiety Disorders. Many of you reached out, so I wanted to discuss it further with you! Yes, anxiety means we are a living breathing person. Without anxiety, humankind definitely wouldn't have survived / evolved. However, at what point does it become too much? What are some of the limitations that are experienced by people with anxiety disorders? What is ‘quality of life'? I answer these questions and provide some more insight on the core root of the problem, in hopes that it validates those who experience it and educate those who don't. Hello friends! My name is Karyn Inder and welcome to The Model Tongue Podcast. A podcast that is dedicated to providing a platform for others to speak their truth and find their voice. In today's episode, we welcome Alexie Landry, co-founder of Crying Out Loud (formerly Lost & Found). Crying Out Loud is a retail shop and social hub where people can find the words to all life events that often leave us speechless. Alexie is one of four friends who have a shared experience of becoming a widow at a young age and today, she breaks down grief (it's not exactly 5 steps) healthy and unhealthy ways to cope, how to support someone who has lost a loved one and how to talk to children when it's difficult to find the words. We also discuss mourning during a pandemic, how it's different and how to ensure you receive the closure that you need. Hello everyone! Welcome to this week's episode where we talk about mental health and stretch with my friend Baillie. Feel free to follow along with us, video available on YouTube! Stretching is a great way to reduce anxiety and clear the mind. This episode is sponsored by Future Majority, a youth-led organization building grassroots power for young people across the country. We have partnered together to raise awareness, change perceptions and fight for accessible health care for everyone. We should live in a Canada where we use a health card, not a credit card, to access mental health services. Where booking a therapist is no different than booking a doctor. Where all Canadians, especially racialized people, members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, and all those left out by our healthcare systems, have access to this essential service. It is so important that we get as many signatures as possible on this petition, which focuses on the affordability and accessibility of mental health care. We can make an impact when we take collective action on this issue. PLEASE sign the petition, everyone deserves access to mental health care. Your signature will help us make that a reality for Canadians. https://bit.ly/mentalhealthcarenow1 The link for this petition can be found in the description box and I thank you in advance for taking the time to sign it. I've signed it, it takes 5 seconds I promise! Thank you so much everyone for your support. Now, grab your yoga mats, turn up the volume and let's get to stretching with Baillie! A lot of us have those difficult relationships, they can be with friends, family members & beyond. You may describe them as distant, toxic, abusive, traumatic... or maybe you don't have the words to describe them at all. Perhaps you've tried to repair them, redefine them or simply survive them. No matter what your situation is, you've probably thought about the inevitable: their passing. How do you navigate? How do you grieve? Will you have regrets? Truth shows us how important vulnerability, conversation and relatability are in getting through things, in healing and in protecting ourselves. She takes us through what it was like to lose her father, someone whom she had a complicated relationship with. She discusses what she would have done differently, what helped her, and the honest truth behind it all. If you have any more questions, please let me know! PTSD is under-discussed and over-stigmatized. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is often regarded as a ‘wartime diagnosis' and while it does affect a lot of veterans, this is furthest from the truth. PTSD does not discriminate and often goes unnoticed or at least disregarded as a potential diagnosis because of the stigmas associated with it. Because of the misinformation and perceptions surrounding PTSD, a lot of people, including those who serve on jury duty and our first line responders, often go without a proper diagnosis and treatment, in addition to there being limited resources. PTSD can be frightening and at times, extremely invasive to quality of life. I am so honoured to introduce Dr. Karla L. Sapp who was more than willing to have this important conversation in hopes of empowering, educating and helping our listeners. We discuss the specifics of PTSD, the stereotypes, the causes, the symptoms, how to best support someone with PTSD as well as how to support yourself. If you have any more questions, please let me know! Financial Literacy is a privilege that not everyone has the opportunity to learn. For those within the mental health community, when our lives are so much based on survival, it can be normal to feel overwhelmed on the topic. We acknowledge that there are so many ‘pockets' to this topic, victims of financial abuse, mental disorders that cause excessive spending, job insecurity etc; so we tried to make this podcast as general as we could, to hopefully help some people and make you feel empowered on making your own financial decisions. We introduce and define some financial terminology, discuss the importance of budgeting, the financial stress created by COVID and all around how to feel more confident...as well as some tips and tricks to hopefully stretch your dollar a little further. We also understand that so many people come from a different background and are currently in different financial situations. The intent on this podcast was to start a very important conversation, acknowledge the importance of financial literacy but also the struggle. We wanted to connect the world of mental health to financial literacy and shed light on situations and scenarios that people may not know about. Above all else, hopefully this conversation will help you, it is so easy to be so hard on ourselves. For me, it helps to be acknowledged and provided with some tools for success... we hope this podcast provides that for you! If you have any more questions, please let me know! Pleaseeee rethink skincare. Today, I welcome the most knowledgeable person I know on skincare. Presley is my go-to for all skincare needs and has fixed my skin at least three times in the past couple years. ALL BY VIDEO CHAT. She is so smart, so talented and brilliant at what she does. She also has a ‘no BS' approach, which I like when it comes to skincare. Presley goes deep in this introduction to ‘rethinking skincare', which is more about taking care of yourself than it is the pursuit of clear & flawless skin. All skin is beautiful, the person reading this is beautiful and that's just the beginning to this conversation on rethinking skincare.
