Piše Tonja Jelen, bereta Eva Longyka Marušič in Jure Franko. Pesnik Pino Pograjc v novih pesniških zbirkah Megalomast in Izbruhijada nadaljuje občutje svojih prejšnjih zbirk Trgetanje in Trepete. Prepletanje teoretičnih dejstev in uvidov deluje faktografsko, ironično in mestoma trpko zabavno. Avtor razgalja in nikogar ne olepšuje, niti same ranljive skupnosti. V pesmi 21 celo pravi: »ko si dovolim trenutek / introspekcije, spekuliram / in ugotovim, / da pretiravam, / a lahke so sodbe, / kadar nisem kozel«. Ta ni le ranljiv, temveč v svojem namenu in aktivizmu postaja odločen. Zbirka smelo opozarja na ranljivost posameznika z več vidikov. Težavnost položaja homoseksualcev Pograjc razplasti v jezikovne kode in ljudske slabšalnice.

My son leaves for college in August, so you can only imagine how much I have been reflecting on motherhood lately.I've been thinking back on all those joyful hours watching Tommy play soccer since he was three years old, and the sleepless nights worrying if he'll be okay as he changes and grows into the young man he is today. The essence of loving a child deeply reminds me of Elizabeth Stone's famous saying – “Making the decision to have a child – it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” These words have never felt more true than they do right now, and it has inspired me to re-release an early episode of the Cracking Open podcast with one of the fiercest and most radically loving mothers I know - the incredible Jodie Patterson.Jodie is an award-winning author, public speaker, advocate, and entrepreneur whose work spans communities as diverse as fashion and beauty brands, to media and entertainment organizations, to queer and BIPOC advocacy groups. In 2019, she became the first Black person elected to the role of Chair of The Human Rights Campaign Board, America's largest LGBT organization with more than forty years of experience advocating for the rights of this community. Her first book, The Bold World: A Memoir of Family and Transformation, was hailed by Alice Walker as “marvelous”, and since its publication in 2017, Jodie has spoken weekly on topics of identity, gender, race, and beauty, along with how they play out in family dynamics. In 2021, she published her second book, Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope. It has won several awards and was gifted to all public schools in the state of Kansas. The picture book was inspired by Jodie's child's pronouncement at the age of three, “Mama, I'm not a girl, I am a boy”, as well as Jodie's transformation into an unapologetic LGBTQAI advocate.Jodie's story has been featured in numerous daytime talk shows, evening news programs, national print publications, podcasts, and radio programs, including a short documentary produced by Cosmopolitan magazine that reached more than 11 million views and is currently used by the State of New York for diversity training of its employees. In 2015, Family Circle Magazine named her the #1 Most Influential Mom.She is a truly inspiring woman and mother, and the conversation that we share is both poignant and passionate. Jodie's voice is an important one to listen to if you want to experience the embodiment of true freedom in love and motherhood.Love,MollyPurchase Jodie's book The Bold World here, and Born Ready here Follow Jodie on InstagramMolly's next 3-month Cracking Open group coaching program starts in September 2024! WORDS OF HOPEOne of the moving elements of a memorial service is the video montage of the person who has joined the Great Cloud of Witnesses. As images emerge, one after another, you think, “There's that smile, that casual slouch, that goofiness or that serious gaze, those hands of service.” And it tugs at your heart that this special person won't be a part of your life anymore. Not in the same way. A group of us from Coat of Colours has been inspired while working to honor the life of Rep. John Lewis for Black History Month. As we scoured the internet for material, I was captured by the images of his life and justice-seeking service, some of which are etched in our national consciousness. So, this morning I highlight a few images. · The children's book Preaching to the Chickens by Jabari Asim and beautifully illustrated by EB Lewis. Based on Lewis' early life on his family's working farm in southern Alabama, the story and pictures show Lewis' penchant for sharing the good news with his creature kin. One image, where John is scattering corn before the flock, recalls the parable of the sower and the seed. Indeed God's expansive love and justice are embodied in this civil rights hero. https://www.themarginalian.org/2016/12/05/preaching-to-the-chickens-john-lewis/ · The depiction of the Bloody Sunday beating March 7, 1965. The body of John Lewis crumpled on the ground, hands trying to shield his head after a brutal beating by an Alabama State trooper during the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery is iconic in its hold on our historic memory. Lewis said that he thought he would die during that assault, but he deferred going to the hospital long enough to make an appeal to President Lyndon B. Johnson to send the National Guard to protect the marchers. These images turned the tide of the civil rights movement, paving the way for the Voting Rights Act. Commemorative marches across the Edmund Pettis Bridge have been held through the years under both Republican and Democratic presidents. After Lewis' death a horse-drawn carriage ferried his body across in solemn dignity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XST4lV7HnO8 Lewis' activism was extensive. He advocated and protested not only for Voting Rights, but for immigration rights, expanded health care and LGBTQAI+ issues, seeing in the arguments against us the same kind of fear-mongering used in discriminating against people of color. He was arrested 45 times. In addition, late in his career, he participated in a sit in on the floor of the House when Republican leadership blocked bringing common sense gun rights legislation to a vote. · Two moving and poignant images feature former President Obama. One shows the Medal of Freedom being conferred on the “conscience of the Congress” in 2011. The other depicts the embrace of the two men. Lewis was deeply moved that America had finally elected an African American of Obama's stature as president. Obama credited Lewis' unwavering dedication to justice with opening the gates for his election. “It was because of you, John,” he said. In his final opinion piece, published shortly before his death, John Lewis lauds the work of the Black Lives Matter movement and urges us to continue carrying the torch for justice and to reclaim the soul of America. We've talked a lot about Christianity and the LGBTQAI+ community. Today we are asking the question, "Can Christians be affirming?" It's one thing to struggle against sin, it's another to say it's totally okay to live in it and we should celebrate it. We take time today to discuss the different type of people who may be affirming and why and who should be concerned about if their salvation is genuine. Enjoy! Today would have been Matthew Shepard's 47th birthday. But Matthew's life was brutally cut short, in 1998, when he was just 22.Matthew was a gay man who got into a truck with two homophobes who lured him into their vehicle saying they just wanted to hang out... with the intent of robbing and killing him instead. This was one of the first cases to get any proper attention for the plight of the LGBTQAI+ community. The Westboro Baptist church is also insanely evil.Happy birthday Matthew and we hope you're resting in peace.TW: graphic murder and sensitive material.
Welcome to another episode of Queernundrum! Today, we dive into a crucial and often overlooked topic—the experiences of LGBTQAI+ seniors. Our elders bear the resilience of having navigated discrimination, societal prejudices, and the challenges of developing their identities in less accepting times. Before we explore the unique journey of LGBTQAI+ seniors, let's take a moment to acknowledge the present. As of today, 84 anti-LGBTQAI+ laws have been passed across the country, while 227 were thankfully shut down. However, 187 laws are advancing, attacking various fronts like accurate IDs, civil rights, free speech, healthcare, public accommodations, and schools. (see ACLU to learn more).A Glimpse into the Past:Reflecting on the 1940s, homosexuality was largely criminalized, and individuals faced legal persecution. Living in the closet was a necessity, affecting their sense of community. Homosexuality was considered a mental illness, leading to harmful practices like conversion therapy. Discrimination in healthcare was rampant, and legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity were nonexistent.Progress:Fast forward to today, and there has been a significant shift in societal attitudes. LGBTQAI+ individuals experience greater social acceptance, a sense of community, and there's growing acknowledgment of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. Legal milestones, like the marriage equality act and the 14th Amendment, mark substantial progress.Reflection:Our elder LGBTQAI+ individuals came of age during times of extreme prejudice, while younger generations often experience more supportive environments during their formative years. Elders may have spent a significant part of their lives in the closet due to societal pressures, while younger individuals often grow up in a more visible and accepting LGBTQAI+ culture. Elder LGBTQAI+ individuals might have faced rejection from biological families, leading to the importance of chosen families. Younger generations often experience more openness within their families. We recognize this is not always the case., discrimination still exist. Our call to action is clear: lets work together to create a future where our LGBTQAI+ seniors can age gracefully, surrounded by environments that honor their resilience, acknowledge their unique journeys, and celebrate the wealth of wisdom they bring to our community. We celebrate the resilience of our LGBTQAI+ seniors, acknowledging the wisdom they bring to our community. As we advocate for inclusive policies and cultural competence in healthcare, we commit to ensuring that the journey of aging is marked by pride, acceptance, and a continued sense of belonging.Donate:/Learn More at SAGE. This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with my good buddy and influential LGBTQAI+ advocate, SWAY. Together, we navigated the crucial issues surrounding our community, shared some heartwarming personal stories, and exchanged insights that are as enlightening as they are inspiring. As if that's not enough, we also got our Grey's Anatomy geek on! Yes, you heard right. SWAY and I are massive fans of the show, and we had a blast dissecting some of our favorite moments and characters. And let's just say we've found some intriguing connections between the show's storylines and our lives. And, in true "What are We Doing" fashion, we couldn't end this episode without a fun detour into the world of pop. We did a full-blown breakdown of Britney Spears – her music, her challenges, her resilience, and her FUTURE surprise feature on Grey's Anatomy!? (wishful thinking) You're not gonna want to miss that! Episode 93 is a rollercoaster ride of profound conversations, pop culture fanboying, and plenty of laughs along the way. Is our inclusive message to culture unwittingly excluding Christ? Is God clear or vague about His design and plan concerning people's “Sexual Preferences''? Should pastors take a stand on any or all of the LGBTQIA+ issues that are dominating our culture? Seems like more and more churches are “serving Bud Light'' by jumping on the LGBTQAI+ affirmation bandwagon. The pulpit no longer beckons “Come as you are'' but instead herolds “Be who you are” to the culture. Don't miss this vital conversation with Eric Hovind and Garry Ingraham. Keely, Corrine, and Hillary interview Lee Grabarek (they/them), a transmasculine trail runner who has vast experience working to increase opportunity and equity for trans people. We discuss their own journey finding confidence in their identity, their opinions around race policies, and goals for the future of trans athlete participation in sport. Keely, Hillary, and Corrine also discuss Keely's supported Joshua Tree FKT, how going full-time athlete may not mean training a lot more, and changing the narrative around healthy training and periods.
