Podcast Notes Episode 452 Life is Hard - God is Good - Let's Dance Host: Brian Miller, PCC Guest: Brant HansenDate: February 13, 2025 In this episode, we dive into a conversation about finding real joy in a world that feels increasingly anxious. Brant Hansen (author, advocate, and nationally syndicated radio host) discusses his new book, Life is Hard. God is Good. Let's Dance., which explores the concept of a deep, pervasive sense of well-being regardless of circumstances. We unpack the root causes of modern anxiety, the impact of attention and choice overload, and practical ways to cultivate peace through trust and gratitude. Key Highlights: Joy Beyond Circumstances – True joy isn't about ignoring difficulties but developing a sense of well-being that transcends them. Jesus' teachings on peace are not unrealistic but attainable. The Source of Anxiety – Anxiety is often shaped by what we pay attention to, not necessarily by external circumstances. Our modern culture's constant choices and social comparisons amplify stress. Outsourcing Worry to God – A simple yet powerful practice: give your worries to God, as scripture encourages, and pivot toward gratitude to cultivate peace. Trusting God's Character – True faith is trust. Even when we don't understand everything, trusting in God's character provides a sense of security amidst life's uncertainties. Takeaways: Anxiety is not inevitable – Through intentional focus and faith, we can reframe our thoughts and reduce anxiety. Gratitude is a game-changer – Shifting from worry to thankfulness has proven psychological and spiritual benefits. Faith means trusting, not controlling – True peace comes not from trying to control every outcome, but from trusting God's plan. 主播:Flora(中国)+ Erin(美国) 歌曲:Out There我们来聊一个在不同文化背景下都能引起人们共鸣的一个话题—anxiety(焦虑)。Anxiety is something most of us experience regularly. Whether it's work, school, relationships, or the day-to-day stress of life, anxiety tends to creep in (悄悄蔓延). 真的是生活的方方面面都有可能滋生焦虑。关于处理anxiety,大家有想过:不去fight it(和它做对抗),而是和它make peace(和平相处)吗?Today, we'll talk about how to accept and manage anxiety in a healthier way (今天,我们将讨论如何以一种更健康的方式来接受和管理焦虑).01. Sources and Manifestation of Anxiety 焦虑的来源和表现Anxiety can come from all kinds of sources. Relationships, work, school, and just navigating (驾驭) life can all contribute. It's not uncommon to feel like we're constantly juggling too much at once (我们经常会觉得自己要同时处理太多事情).But anxiety isn't just about what's going on around us; it affects us in various ways. We might feel physical symptoms (身体上的症状)—like a racing heart (心跳加速) or tension (紧张)—or find ourselves stuck in cycles of worry (陷入了一个无限担忧的循环中).And that brings us to the heart of today's discussion: how can we effectively manage anxiety (如何有效地管理焦虑)?We'll explore techniques like cognitive restructuring (认知重组), journaling (写日记), and brainstorming solutions (头脑风暴解决方案) to help manage those overwhelming feelings.02. The Right Mindset 正确的心态It's important to recognize that these sources are part of being human, not something we need to completely eliminate (需要完全消除). But, how we react to them makes a huge difference.Flora can relate to that on a personal level. There was a time when she tried to tackle her anxiety head-on, thinking that if she just fought it hard enough, it would go away. But then she realized that the more she resisted her anxiety, the stronger it seemed to become. Eventually, she learned to acknowledge her feelings instead of battling them (承认自己的感受而不是压抑). She thinks this is a very important mindset for us to have when dealing with anxiety.03. How to Manage Anxiety Effectively?如何有效管理焦虑?(1) Cognitive Restructuring (认知重组)To manage anxiety, one key approach is challenging our thoughts. 其实很多时候我们的认知或者想法和事实是有很大差距的。With a little bit of reasoning (稍做推理), you may find that the truth is actually far from what you thought.进行认知重组的时候可以问自己一些问题:Is my worry logical(我的担心是符合逻辑的吗)? What's the evidence behind it(这背后有证据吗)? 总之就是不要让你的emotion(情绪)占据自己的大脑。You might find that a lot of what you're anxious about is unlikely to happen, or that you're exaggerating the problem in your mind (你夸大了心中的问题).(2) Journaling (写日记)Writing things down helps make the problem feel more concrete and manageable (更加具体和易于管理). When you put your thoughts on paper, it's easier to break them down and find a solution. (3) Brainstorming Solutions (头脑风暴解决方案)When faced with a problem, listing out as many solutions as you can (尽可能多地列出解决方法) is a helpful way to ease anxiety (缓解焦虑). It reduces that feeling of uncertainty and helps you regain a sense of control (找回掌控感).这个其实是可以刻意练习的。You might feel a bit lost at first, but once you open your mind (打开思路), you'll find that there are at least three solutions to your problem (一个问题至少有三种解决方法). It also calms your mind and helps it think of something else.04. Classification of Anxiety (焦虑的分类)(1) Acute Anxiety (急性焦虑)Sometimes, we have acute anxiety, which comes on suddenly, like before a big presentation (一场大型演讲之前). 此外,在日常生活中大家轮流发言交流自己的想法的时候也有可能产生acute anxiety。So what can we do about this?在这种情况出现时,deep breathing(深呼吸)or distracting yourself for a short period(短暂地分散一下注意力)都是比较有效的。如果大家想要直接从源头上减少acute anxiety的话,Flora的建议是:Create more opportunities for yourself to deal with acute anxiety (多给自己创造一些能去应对急性焦虑的机会). 次数累积到一定程度之后,你可能就会惊喜地发现你没有之前那么紧张和焦虑了。In fact, this method could take a lot of courage in the beginning. But when you actually take that step, you'll realize it's not that hard. It is like exposure therapy (暴露疗法). The more you do it, the less scary it is. (2) Chronic Anxiety (慢性焦虑)Chronic anxiety is probably more likely to bother us, and we often have a hard time dealing with it. If it's chronic anxiety, where the feelings build up over time (随着时间的推移而积累), it's important to approach it differently.First, adjust your mindset (调整心态). 千万不要试着去suppress or avoid the anxiety(压抑或者回避焦虑),这只会适得其反。其实anxiety是大脑对我们的一种保护。When we feel anxious, it's our brain reminding us to react ahead of time to unknown dangers (提醒我们提前对未知的危险做出反应) so we can better protect ourselves.Whether we are humans or other animals, when faced with a threat we either choose to run or fight. Either choice requires our bodies to function at maximum capacity (都需要我们的身体发挥最大功能) to protect us from harm.自古以来都是这样的。产生焦虑并不是错误,而且是我们身体的一种protective mechanism(保护机制)。After realizing this, you can consistently do things that boost your mood (持续地做一些能改善情绪的事情). It could be exercising, connecting with loved ones, or taking breaks during stressful moments.By balancing out life's negatives with positive actions, you'll prevent anxiety from becoming overwhelming. 当你生活中积极的事比重变大之后,心情自然也会变好了。At the end of the day, anxiety is part of life, but it doesn't have to control us. The key is learning how to approach it with the right mindset (关键是学习如何以正确的心态来处理它), accept it for what it is, and find practical (实用的) ways to manage it.So next time you feel anxious, remember: you don't need to fight it. Instead, try to make peace with it (尝试和它和解), understand where it's coming from, and use the tools we talked about today to take back control. And remember, it's perfectly okay to seek support (寻求帮助), whether from friends, family, or professionals. We hope today's episode helps you feel more empowered to face anxiety head-on and find balance in your life.欢迎在评论区告诉我们:你都有哪些管理焦虑的方法呢?

Ryan Kavanaugh and Chris Johnson delve into how anxiety affects us at different levels, the importance of recognizing its presence in our lives, and the various coping mechanisms individuals have developed over time.  We shed light on the often overlooked or misunderstood aspects of living with anxiety, and the need for more compassion, understanding, and open dialogue on mental health issues. The Spectrum of Anxiety: Anxiety affects everyone differently, existing on a spectrum from mild, everyday worries to severe, crippling disorders. This variability means that what works as a coping mechanism for one person may not work for another, highlighting the importance of personalized approaches to mental health care. Today, we're diving into the topic of anxiety and how to effectively manage it. Anxiety affects a significant portion of us, but understanding and addressing it is essential for a fulfilling life. I'll share insights from my own experiences, clients, and experts, so you can conquer anxiety and regain control of your life. 11 anxiety hacks you can immediately implement to help you gain control of your life again. Understanding Anxiety: Anxiety is a common experience; nearly 80-90% of us encounter it in various forms. It can manifest physically and mentally, impacting careers, relationships, and overall well-being. Recognizing anxiety is the first step toward overcoming it. My Personal Journey: I personally dealt with anxiety for years without realizing it. Awareness came when a therapist casually mentioned my anxiety during a marriage therapy session. It's not uncommon for people to be unaware of their anxiety, as I was for the first three decades of my life. Anxiety's Impact on Health: Anxiety triggers the release of cortisol, a stress hormone that can hinder progress in various aspects of life. From career advancement to relationships and even weight management, anxiety can put everything on hold. Physical Manifestations: As a dermatology Physician Assistant, I see anxiety manifest in skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, or eczema. Stress hormones exacerbate these issues and can be a significant factor in their development. Healthcare professionals and individuals working in high-stress environments often experience anxiety, impacting their well-being and decision-making. Types of Anxiety Responses: Anxiety can manifest in different ways. For some, it leads to hyper-focus on areas they can control like micromanaging their food or exercise. Others may resort to coping mechanisms like overeating, excessive spending, or numbing out with Netflix or alcohol. The Life-Altering Power of Anxiety: Anxiety can drastically alter the course of our lives. Imagine it as a path diverging in two directions. Managing anxiety gives you the choice to follow a different path. Understanding Emotions: No emotion is inherently bad; they all serve as clues about what's happening in our minds. Anxiety is a natural response, but unchecked, it can dictate the story of our lives, limiting our agency. Rewiring Your Brain: Anxiety rewires our brains, creating neural pathways that perpetuate anxious thoughts. The key is catching yourself in these thought patterns and rewriting the script to form new neural pathways. Common Anxious Thoughts: Anxious thoughts often include feelings of inadequacy, fear of failure, or playing the victim. Identifying and challenging these thoughts is essential to regain control. Anxiety and Safety: Anxiety stems from a primal instinct for survival. In ancient times, it kept us alert to potential dangers. Today, it's a response to feeling unsafe in our environment. Using Anxiety as a Clue: View anxiety as a clue, not an enemy. Ask yourself what your anxiety is trying to communicate and how it's trying to help. I'll review 11 tricks you can use to tame your anxiety and keep it from steamrolling your life. If someone you know is dealing with anxiety, share this episode to offer them guidance and support. Generalized Mental Disorders: 1. Anxiety: Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure. Anxiety disorders often involve intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. The etymology of the word “anxiety” is derived from the Latin anxietas, meaning “anxiety, agitation, distress.” 2. Depression: Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in activities. It affects how you feel, think, and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. The word “depression” is derived from the Latin word depressio, meaning “lowered.” 3. Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder characterized by periods of depression and periods of elevated mood. It is also known as “manic-depressive disorder” and is one of the most common mental illnesses. The etymology of the word “bipolar” is derived from the Latin words biparus and bi-polaris, meaning “two poles.” 4. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by a traumatic event. It can cause intrusive thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks, and difficulty sleeping. The etymology of the word “post-traumatic” is derived from the Latin post, meaning “after,” and traumaticus, meaning “injury or wound.” 5. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): OCD is a mental disorder characterized by obsessions (recurrent and persistent thoughts, feelings, or urges) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors or mental acts). The etymology of the word “obsessive” is derived from the Latin obsessio, meaning “besiege.” The word “compulsive” comes from the Latin compulsio, meaning “compel.” 2. Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to recognize what is real. The etymology of the word “schizophrenia” comes from the Greek words schizein, meaning “to split,” and phren, meaning “mind.” 7. Addiction - Addiction is a mental health condition characterized by a compulsive engagement in substance use or other behaviors, despite associated risks and consequences. People with addiction may find it difficult to quit these behaviors, despite their awareness of negative outcomes. Etymologically speaking, the word addiction derives from the Latin verb addicere, which means to bind or surrender. 8. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - ADHD is a mental disorder characterized by a pattern of impaired attention control and hyperactive, impulsive behavior. People with ADHD may find it difficult to focus on tasks or remain productive, may become easily distracted or aroused, and may be prone to acting without thinking. Etymology: The term Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) dates back to 1902 when George Still described what has come to be known as the “Still's disease” of childhood. ADHD was first formally recognized as a mental disorder in 1980 and has been a part of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) ever since. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/liam-connerly/support

We make decisions in everything we do—even the simple act of choosing what to eat is making a decision. But oftentimes, it's difficult to know whether we're deciding based on our intuition or not. Sometimes, it's anxiety's voice telling us to do or not to do something. And if we end up listening to the wrong voice, we may end up stuck in a place that is harmful in the long run. In the sixth episode of Whole, Full, & Alive, Caitie delves into the topic of decision-making. She explores the two voices—intuition and anxiety—that influence how we decide on everything in life. Learn how to make intuitive decisions in both small and big life events.  If you want to start making intuitive decisions that allow you to grow, listen to this episode!

Adorning our school's main hallway is a sort of charter for the Heights graduate which designates him as a man who is “optimistic toward life's challenges,” as one who “sees freedom as an opportunity to choose the good.” Fostering these ideals in each student is a central aspect of the school's mission. But, in a world that is increasingly filled with children suffering from anxiety, how—in very practical terms—can we help our students develop such an outlook on life? Last month, we heard from Mr. Alex Berthé on how parents can find peace in an anxiety ridden world. This week on HeightsCast, we begin a series of discussions with Dr. Kevin Majeres, lecturer at Harvard Medical School and Founder of OptimalWork.   In this three-part series, we take a deep dive into three sets of challenges which are becoming increasingly prevalent in today's youth, and three mindsets or skills that can help us as parents and teachers to help our boys help themselves: Anxiety  Attention Addiction  Our first discussion with Dr. Majeres focuses on anxiety. Combining years of experience as a psychiatrist and drawing on research in cognitive behavioral therapy, Dr. Majeres teaches us both what anxiety is and what we can do about it.   In the episode, we learn:  The Foundation of Growth  The importance of having a growth mindset—seeing yourself as capable of real improvement.  Learning to reframe out of a fixed mindset.  Anxiety  Anxiety is adrenaline with a negative frame.  Adrenaline is a performance-enhancing hormone, which is meant to improve one's capacities, whether physical or cognitive.  All anxiety disorders come from seeing anxiety as a disorder; they are the fruit of seeing the effects of adrenaline as a problem.  Children's preferences are often manifestations of anxiety coupled with avoidance; it is crucial to help people from a young age to stay with a challenge and not flee from anxiety.  Reframing  Reframing is deliberately finding the opportunity for growth in a challenge that one had previously viewed negatively.  The way the body utilizes hormones depends on how we frame them; reframing is not mere wishful thinking.  Start small; don't tackle the biggest challenge first.  Cheerfulness  Cheerfulness is often synonymous with courage.  The family is where we first learn to see challenges as opportunities. If parents foster a smiling approach to challenges, then even a quick thought of them can become a reframe for their children.  An essential component of The Heights School's mission is to help students discover the adventure hidden in every challenge they face. Having spoken with Dr. Majeres, we might phrase this skill as the ability to turn the adrenaline of anxiety into the adventure of everyday life. Hey everyone! In today's episode I discuss some of the biggest reasons we allow ourselves to procrastinate. These reasons include, getting overwhelmed and opting out entirely, negative self-talk that discourages us from trying and probably the most obvious, simply not wanting to do the task because it is not something we enjoy having to do.  How do you know if you're procrastinating or if you're simply not ready to take the plunge just yet? We discuss noticing the difference between the two. We also talk about not allowing ourselves to get caught up in little details and holding ourselves back in our progress, when the step can be skipped and re-visited later on. This is part 1 of a two part special about how procrastination and anxiety often times go hand-in-hand. Part 1 barely scratches the surface, for details about how to push back on dreaded procrastination join us next week for part 2!Can't get enough Wakey Wakey Megz & Bakey? Anxiety levels are rising globally with everything that’s going on this year. I wanted to give you this bonus episode full of my top tips to help you reduce your anxiety, not just in these moments, but all year round.   Ways you can treat your anxiety Conventional medicine Create a calming, electronic free sleeping environment Practice meditation Take supplements   About Dr. Stephanie Gray Stephanie Gray, DNP, MS, ARNP, ANP-C, GNP-C, ABAAHP, FAARFM, is a functional medicine provider who helps men and women build sustainable and optimal health and longevity so that they can focus on what matters most to them!   She is the Amazon best-selling author of her book Your Longevity Blueprint, host of the Your Longevity Blueprint podcast, and co-founder of Your Longevity Blueprint Nutraceuticals with her husband, Eric.  They enjoy spending time outside with their son William. They own the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic in Hiawatha, Iowa.   Conventional Medicine and Anxiety Anxiety is on the rise amongst my patients. With everything this year has thrown us, it’s unsurprising. But that doesn’t mean you can’t support your body through these anxious periods in a few different ways. First of all, what exactly is anxiety? I walk you through the specific ways it manifests in your body and explain how many of these signs you need to exhibit in order to receive that diagnosis. From a conventional, western medicine point of view, there are a few steps you can take. Your doctor might prescribe certain medications, particularly SSRIs and Benzodiazepine, to help you handle the symptoms of anxiety. You might receive a subscription for them separately, or, in some cases, jointly. Your medical doctor should also recommend talking therapy to help you work through the reasons you’re feeling anxious. This might be in combination with one of the medications mentioned.   Treating Anxiety with Natural Care There are also natural methods to help calm your anxiety symptoms. Gentle exercise, meditation, and creating a calming, electronic-free bedroom are all at the top of my list. I’d also recommend taking certain supplements and a daily multivitamin. I’ve linked to the ones I mentioned in this episode and you can get a discount in my shop using the code ‘estrogen detox.’ Finally, I wholeheartedly encourage you to get all your hormones checked by your doctor. They can do this with a blood test that will show you exactly where you could use extra nutritional support. Because, just as with everything in our bodies, your overall mental health begins in your gut. Are you feeling the pressure and anxiety from the last year? You’re not alone! It’s important to acknowledge how you’re feeling and take the steps you need to help yourself. Let me know in the comments on the episode page what steps you’re taking for yourself.   Quotes “You have to sleep to improve anxiety. Sleep is when your body repairs and heals.” [7:39] “I know what any of you may be thinking: ‘can I take supplements with medications?’ The short answer is yes because they usually help the medications work better. But please consult with your personal medical provider, especially if you’re on lots of medications.” [11:52] “To improve your overall mental health, you must address gut health.” [12:51]   In This Episode How anxiety presents in your life and body [1:30] What the types of conventional medication for anxiety are [2:45] Some natural ways you can help reduce your levels of anxiety [7:15] What supplements you should take for anxiety [8:00] Why you should consider getting your hormones tested [13:00]   Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here   Learn More About Your Longevity Blueprint: The Course Buy the Electric Kill Switch I mentioned in this episode Use code estrogendetox for a discount on: DIM OMEGA 3S 120 COUNT L-THEANINE – 60 CT 5HTP ADRENAL CALM HERBAL ADRENAL COMPLEX MAGNESIUM CHELATE 120 COUNT   Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online    Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative    Related Episodes Episode 14: Supporting The Mitochondria with NAD and Peptides w/ Dr. Amber Krogsrud Episode 15: Community and Curiosity for Longevity with Dr. Sandr Scheinbaum Episode 10: 5 Pillars Of A Toxin-Free Lifestyle with Aimee Carlson

State your desired goal. Be specific, measurable and have parameters. Remember that the goal should be something you should have power over.  Discover your motivating factor. Why do you want to change? If that “why” is not a 9 or 10 on an importance factor, then you aren’t motivated enough.  Create an anchor. An anchor is something that reminds you and connects you to your goal.  Clear the clutter from your life. You need to find space in your life for something new or a new habit. Recognizing and Living with Anxiety Anxiety disorders are the most commonly treated psychiatric disorder, even more so than depression or addiction. Understanding what anxiety is, who is affected by it, how it affects them and appropriate responses is therefore helpful whether you live with anxiety or someone close to you does. Running and anxiety can have a relationship in both positive and negative ways. Running is often a healthy habit that calms our mood, strengthens our heart, and gives us confidence in completing difficult tasks. Occasionally, running is a source of anxiety. Like other exercise or eating habits, it can become an obsessive hobby. Without proper introspection, it can be more of a crutch than a help. Today we interviewed Ken Johnson, a psychiatrist and a Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a long-time runner and passionate doctor, Ken was well equipped to answer some of the questions below to help us understand anxiety more fully. What is Anxiety? As part of the human experience, we all encounter anxiety. Doing things we don’t normally do often make us anxious, such as speaking in front of others, traveling to new places, or competing in sporting events. Anxiety becomes a disorder once it impedes normal life. If you find yourself feeling scared, obsessive or nervous frequently, you may be dealing with an anxiety disorder. However, it is completely normal to feel these emotions and not have an anxiety disorder. How do I Know if I Have Anxiety? Common physical responses for those with anxiety include increased sweating or gastrointestinal (GI) problems. Other determinants include being unable to do your job, being afraid to go to work, not being in tune with your environment (often made known by comments from friends and family members), or having repeating thoughts or actions such as wondering if you turned off the oven. What Types of Anxiety Exist? To know if you have anxiety, it can be helpful to understand the types of anxiety disorders that exist. Anxiety disorders are occasionally categorized or defined differently, so contacting your doctor is the surest way to learn more about current descriptions and treatments. These are just a few of the more common anxiety disorders. OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder): Those with OCD can have a particular action or thought that is repeated constantly. Common symptoms are obsessive cleaning or making sure doors are locked. Social Anxiety Disorder: Anxiety that only presents itself when you are with other people. This is typically heightened by larger groups of people, or people you don’t know well. Generalized Anxiety Disorder: This type of anxiety happens regularly, without regard to current location or circumstances. Who Should I go to for Help With my Anxiety? Dr. Johnson recommends one of two people that can help you get set up with a professional. If you know a friend that sees a therapist, ask them their opinion of their therapist. If they recommended him or her, it may be a good fit for you too. Another great resource is your primary doctor. Your doctor should have a handful recommendations. Be open with him or her about how you are feeling. How Long Should I See a Therapist? See a therapist for two to three sessions at a minimum before deciding if the therapy is helpful to you. This is probably a good amount of time to see a therapist before deciding if they are a good fit as well. How Important is Finding the Right Therapist? Studies have shown that working with “the right” therapist is more important than the therapist’s training or the types of therapy. It may take effort on your part to find a therapist that fits your personality, but it is well worth it. Talking With Someone Who Has Anxiety First and foremost, avoid criticism. Approach every interaction with that person with compassion. When you suggest getting help, doing so out of love instead of criticism should help you find the right words. The depth of your relationship should also determine how often you bring up the subject. If you aren’t more than an acquaintance, simple positive support can be your role. Anxiety in a Modern World We live in a fast-paced world that is full of comparison and demands on our time. Being aware of our thoughts and actions is one of the simplest ways to help ourselves. Take time to ponder, away from media and distractions. We will always have times when we experience anxiety, but as we learn to recognize when or why it is happening, we don’t have to succumb to its pressure. Like a cloud, we can see it and then chose to focus on it or let it go by.     For these little series of episodes I am not having sponsors because I want you to just get this information and concentrate on that because it is GOOD information. Regardless of your age or social status, anxiety can affect us all – in fact, Dr. Gary Collins (a Christian psychologist) calls it “the most pervasive psychological phenomenon of our time.” And while most anxiety is caused by the ordinary stresses and pressures of life, many today suffer from anxiety disorders that require the assistance of medical professionals in order to thrive. Anxiety~Anxiety can only arise when we are disconnected from the Source of our Being. Feeling anxious or experiencing an anxiety attack can be witnessed and seen as a barometer of sorts. It shows us when we have misaligned. We simply remind ourselves to make the choice to realign. We shift our focus from the mind and body to the inner silence within our own heart center. This calm center within does the work. The invisible formless Soul within will dissolve all fear, worry, doubt and anxiety. Let this be your healing balm.  ~Christina Bauer   Received from my morning meditation www.christinabauer.com

Topic - Autism and Anxiety Anxiety is a serious problem for those on the autistic spectrum.  Don't dismiss it by saying, “Oh it's just part of autism”.  Anxiety undermines even the most effective treatments and makes life miserable for them.  Just as any other child, they're experiencing developmental periods and once they pass through them, the opportunity to learn is lost.  Serious differences in the autistic brain make it difficult for them to control their anxiety.  One of the major differences is that the emotional part of the brain is much larger and interprets faces as threatening.  This threat activates anxiety which is problematic because faces are everywhere! If your child, teen or young adult is seriously impacted with anxiety, speak with a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist who is well-versed in autism.  Determine the best approach to reduce misery and improve performance. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message

Anxiety + Anxiety + Anxiety = Anger Do you feel ever notice that your overwhelming fear turns into overwhelming anger?  Yes?  Well, you are not alone.   Anger is a very common bi-product of anxiety. Today, I share a little bit more about my experience of listening to Clint Malarchuk, who was a National Hockey League player and was the keynote speaker at the most recent So Cal IOCDF Conference.  Click here for last weeks podcast episode on YOU ARE NOT ALONE Clint and his wife told their beautiful story about Clint's struggles with OCD and Trauma.   Clint shared all about his journey of managing obsessions and compulsions while excelling as a professional hockey player.   There was SO much about Clint and his wife presentation that I loved, but one thing stood out to me as being REALLY important.   Clint shared about his Anger.  Clint and his wife shared how he was overwhelmed with rage.  Clint was angry at himself.  Angry with his wife for demanding her get help.  Angry at his disorder, for taking so much away from him. It made me wonder, I am sure some of you would love to know that they are not alone in their anger. This podcast is for you if you commonly feel angry about what you are going through and angry at those who just don't get it. Anger is a normal human emotion, but we need to work on making space for it.  We cannot push it down and we cannot transfer it onto other people by yelling, throwing, punching and/or saying mean things. If you want to learn more about anger and how to manage it, listen to this podcast. I detail FOUR KEYS ways you can manage your experience of anger (and NO, punching a pillow is not one of them).   You will learn that you have to honor and respect your anger and create a better relationship with it.
