I know I'm still horribly behind on the monthly mixes here on Podomatic (you can stream the newer ones on Mixcloud ;-) but figured it made sense for the holiday season to jump ahead and post my "A Soul Shack Christmas (aka "Christmas Cocktails 2024)" mix, so it can be enjoyed over the holidays.I really didn't think I was going to be able to make a 2024 edition, but determined, I found a way! I recorded about 2hrs in my headphones on a 2nd setup during dinner at Alexie's winter formal Thursday night, then about 1.5hrs of the mix that I knew I could get away with at my gig at STK Friday night, then Saturday morning recorded the other hour or so, and then put it all together!Knowing I wasn't recording it live, this one musically is more like a "Soul Shack Christmas" really and is definitely more for people my age (so much retro!). I'm really happy with this year's edition, but listen for yourself.I truly hope this mix bring a little extra joy to your holidays, soundtracks special moments with friends & family and I hope you all stay healthy & safe this holiday season.IG: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meSubscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245

Doug Lessing, as a speaker and longtime partner of multiple tech companies over the past 30 years, has made it his life's work to evangelize the importance of using business as force for good in a fractured world. As the Founder of his latest venture, Phin, a philanthropic tech platform and certified BCorp, he is an advocate for companies being great by doing good. Phin models the BCorp ethos of using business as a force for good while helping companies build great teams and company culture by incorporating positive values and social good into their daily actions. Doug is featured on Worth Magazine's Worthy 100 Entrepreneurs. He currently serves as an advisor to several founders and is on the leadership team of Founders Network, a group of 700 tech founders from around the world. When we were identifying what was missing in education, we quickly zeroed in on the fact that motivation is a big part of it. And to solve that motivation problem, you're competing with non-education products. In the early days, when folks would ask us about our competitors, we would joke that Facebook and Twitter were our primary competitors, not the schools. So we just recognized that mobile is where students were living at that point. And so we had to be there, too.” - Ori Ratner*”When you're designing an [educational] experience, you have to get out of the learner's way as much as possible. And anything you do that adds a little bit of cognitive load or unnecessary cognitive load, the learners feel it, and you'll see that in the churn.” - Ori Ratner*”We create standard learning lessons that walk the learners through the material. They're very interactive experiences, so every eight seconds, the students should be interacting with the software in some way. And then we quiz them on the material we want them to learn at the end. And the lessons are designed to be story-based, focusing on what does it really look like to be working as a data analyst or someone in finance?” - Alexie HarperTime Stamps*[0:08] The Case of the Move to Mobile*[0:38] Introducing Alexie Harper and Ori Ratner, Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer at the Quantic School of Business and Technology*[8:53] Evidence #1: Format of material is outdated*[20:40] Evidence #2: Visual design is clunky and cumbersome*[27:05] Evidence #3: No incentive to motivate users*[37:27] Debrief*[38:30] HGS PubBioAlexie Harper is the Chief Product Officer and Ori Ratner is the Chief Technology Officer at the Quantic School of Business and Technology.
