In the podcast I briefly touch on the common gut issues people are experiencing. remember, it is not that having 'bad"bacteria is an issue. it becomes a problem when they are overgrown (and in the wrong place!) and overrepresented in relation to some of the other beneficial bacteria. Before getting into the world of microbiome let me remind you about the retreat in japan that is happening in April. A week of connection and cultural experience with my favourite yogi Ryan mannix and nourishing food provided by me. We would love to have you take a trip with us. it is going to be an amazing experience.all the details is listed here https://shokuikuaustralia.com/japan-retreat/The main thing I wanted to clear is the connection with mushrooms. I have heard some people avoiding mushrooms all together, thinking that it can create fungal and candida issues.Medicinal mushrooms are an entirely different classification of fungi compared to culinary mushrooms like buttom mushrooms. These culinary mushrooms can contain mould and increase dampness in the body.Various superherbs and medicinal mushrooms can actually be helpful when addressing gut issues. Medicinal mushroom has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine and its ability to bring balance to the body has been supported in so many studies.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29199568/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4924437/Because gut issues are often linked to your nervous system and there is a study showing that stress is linked to SIBO, all the adaptogens can help lower stress by supporting adrenals.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5347643/Another interesting study I found indicates that the active ingredients in some medicinal mushrooms can change bacteria in your stomach for the better by altering gut bacteria.https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms8489The latest study that just came out in 2019 supports the importance of fibre in the diet.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/31043597/To support the healing of your digestive system there are some herbs that have been utilised instead of antibiotic. It is easier to prevent infections in the first place than to treat it.probiotics help repopulate the gut with helpful microbes. Supplements can be effective and useful when treating a specific conditions, however homemade, naturally fermented foods like sauerkraut, miso, kefir can help increase microdiversity.prebiotics are foods for the beneficial bacteria. these include vegetables, as well as grains and legumes if well tolerated.Antiviral, anti microbials botanicals such as skullcap, goldenseal, cat’s claw, olive leaf extract, garlic, oregano oil may be used under an herbalist. Pau’d arcois one of my favourite herbs in this area.Immunity Supporting herbs include all the medicinal mushrooms like reishi, chaga, lions maneare all amazing, as well as astragalusand rhodiola. We have a beautifulblend of immunity supporting herbs in our alchemy blend range.Adaptogens such as holy basil, gynostemma, ashwagandhato support your stress.Liver supporting herbs such as burdock, schisandra, danelionroot, milk thistle to support your liver and overall healing.Jing herbs to support to rebuild your essense energy like he shou wu, Rehmannia, Cordyceps, Noni which may be helpful as these gut problems can lead to depletion of your Jing. ( the podcast explaining Jing is here )Thank you for listening. Let me know if you have any particular topic and herb that you would like me to go over. It is always nice to hear from you :-)
It took me a while for me to get into these berries just because when extracted into powder it has an unique flavour that goes only with specific drinks. But I have started using whole berries to make tea which I drink pretty much everyday at the moment.Schisandra berries in Chinese which means five flavoured berry because of it has all the five flavours, sweet, sour salty, bitter and pungent. The flavours are said to be associated with different organs in the body and having all the flavours in this one berry it can positively affect the whole body system.Schisandra is the berry of a climbing vine native to China and Russia. it is harvested in summer. We sell whole berriesthat have been dried, or extracted powderwhich you can just add to smoothies or juices.Traditionally used for longevity, anti-aging properties, increasing energy and as a sexual tonic. It is considered an adaptogen and one of the most highy protevtive of all medicinal plants.Studies I mentionedliver healthhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25882501https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22610748https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31118972https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31004881skin healthhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30272282weight managementhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26048342like to find more about what we can help you with? get more inspiration?find some amazing products for optimal health? or join our holistic wellness communityVISIT www.shokuikuaustralia.comLEARN RAW FOOD CUISINE WITH USwww.shokuikuacademy.com17 day intensive raw food courseRECIPE BOOKwww.rawrecipebook.comfollow usfacebook https://www.facebook.com/Shokubyshokuikuinstagram https://instagram.com/shokuikuinstagram (personal) https://www.instagram.com/inoue.yoko/podcast https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/wellness-foodie/id1440367960?mt=2&fbclid=IwAR0VD-p2x5RybX_SbSVsPg6MNubiOFvz0Wh7iBg-lRU-MF91BLi4_RdQVZE
In this episode I go over essential equipments in a raw food kitchen. If you have a standard kitchen you are usually stocked with basic tools. In fact if you have a knife and chopping board it is a great start. But having more equipments can make the prep time more efficient and helps you explore more creative recipes.I am running a fundamental raw food class on 17th and 18th August. We will be going through equipments, staple ingredients, basic and intermediate level of raw food. I am especially excited about this class as it is my first hands on class, where you get to make the recipes together, not just watching the demos.you can find more about it and book here
Refined sugar can have very harsh long term affects if consumed in large amounts, with weight gain being not the only issue, swapping sugar in recipes for more natural ingredients could help you and your family in so many ways. I understand how important our health is, which is why I decided to do a podcast about it.We live in the times that refined sugars are everywhere and its temptations. We also live in the times that alternatives to refund sugar can be sourced much easier. There are many natural sugars such as coconut sugar, maple sugar, rice syrup etc that still have some minerals and enzymes which can easily replace refined sugar. In this podcast though, I am focusing on the sweeteners that are low-no GI, low-no calorie. They are often classified as Keto-friendly, and safe for diabetic conditions and candida.Monk Fruit (Luo Han Guo)SteviaLakantoare three of my favourites when I am making my desserts and drinks sugar free+++++++++subscribe so you won't miss out on the next episodewebsite www.shokuikuaustralia.com www.shokuikuacademy www.rawrecipebookI would love it if you have a listen and share your feedback with me and others. They need to meet three criteria.1.adaptogens must be non specific and must assist the human body in resisting a wide range of conditions, including physical, chemical or biological stress2.adaptogens must maintain homeostasis in humans. that means these herbs can offset or resist physical disorders caused by external stress.3adaptogens must not harm the normal functions of the bodyIn 1969 newly defined criteria was introduced. according to this definitionadaptogens1 must reduce the harm caused by stressed states, such as fatigue, infection and depression2. must have positive excitatory effects on the human body3 must not cause side effect such as insommia, low protein synthesis or excessive energy consumption4. must not harm the human bodyWe now have three catagories of adaptogens, including primary, secondary adaptogens and adaptogen companions .In this episode we talk further aboutwhat these three catagories of adaptogens arethe true adaptogenic herbseleutherorhodiolapanax ginsengschisandragynostemmareishisimilarity between adaptogens and tonic herbssimilarity between adaptogens and ginseng found all over the worldhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3991026/Effects of Adaptogens on the Central Nervous System and the Molecular Mechanisms Associated with Their Stress—Protective Activity https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3991026/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3269752/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3155223/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3573577/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5577295/connecthttps://shokuikuaustralia.com

In this podcast episode and next I would be focusing on types of algae that we carry at Shokuiku.I will be talking about spirulina and chlorella which are two algae that many people are already familier with. Then I would also like to add AFA and Marine phytoplankton after this week also.I love seaweed. I have them regularly in my diet like nori, wakame, kombu, agar agar and more. But if you are talking about really nutrient dense algae these are my top four.First of all, Algae is the first plant life on earth. We know that algae has 40 vitamins and minereals, more protein than steak, more iron than the liver, more calcium than milk , more chlorophyll than kale, more antioxidants than berries. It is also pretty eco friendly becuase it does not take much space to grow compared to other energy dense foods like beef. and it releases oxygen while growing. it continues to provide 80- 90 percent of the oxygen. Many of us have heard of or already are using these two basic forms of algae. Spirulina and chlorella. In this episode I will go through the benefits and interesting facts of these nutrient dense foods.Links to the studies mentioned in the podcastAtP synthesis produced when Carotenoid found in chlorophyll is exposed to the sunlighthttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24198392The amino acid nutrient profile is almost identical to mother's milkhttps://2gqdkq4bpinp49wvci47k081-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/mothers-milk-amino-acid-profile-from-biological-chemistry.pdffollow, message me through @inoue.yoko or @shokuiku on instagramsubscribe so you won't miss out on the next episodewebsite www.shokuikuaustralia.com www.shokuikuacademy www.rawrecipebookI would love it if you have a listen and share your feedback with me and others. Gynostemmaand reishi are my two top herbs. Reishi has been getting much attention but gynostemma is not widely known yet.It may be because it is not one of the traditional chinese herbs but it is more of a folk herb. It was only discovered in early 1970s when Japanese researchers found them growing on Southern China when they were looking for sugar substitute.Gynostemma pentaphyllum, makino in japanese or jiogulan in Chinese has a compound similar to one of the most famous adaptogens, ginseng. Ginseng has an average of 36 saponins, which are the beneicial compounds. In this episode, I am talking about another medicinal mushroom, Chaga. If Reishi is the queen of the mushroom, chaga is known to be the King of the mushroom.Chaga grows naturally on birch trees in cold climates, in Russia, Korea, Japan, Europe, Canada, and Northen regions of the United States. It produces a fruiting body on the trunk of the tree that looks like a burnt charcoal. It was actually also used as a coal extender in some communities but traditionally used to make a medicinal tea.In this episode I go throughThe benefits of chaga mushroomWhat is SOD and how it can help you to age gracefullyAnti-cancer compound in chagaHow chaga grows and how it should be harvestedHow much to take chagastudies that I mentionedhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5333935/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4946216/Are you ready to take Siberian Chaga? In this episode I am talking about a herb that will definately go into my top 3. In this episode, we are getting into the last of the three treasure, Shen. Shen is the most refined energy out of the three. It it the light that you see in someone's eyes, expression in their faces, and vibes that you get when you meet someone.A person with good shen is connected to the higher self and on purpose in life. They are grounded, calm and have what you call "zest for life".To tonify your shen it is important to have Jing and Qi thriving, also have lifestyle practices that nourish your shen, such as having the time to work on yourself, getting into the nature, having a community support etc.The herbs that I talk about in the podcast areREISHIPOLYGALAASPARAGUS ROOTALCHEMY BLEND "SPIRIT"PEARL* follow, message me through @inoue.yoko or @shokuiku on instagram* subscribe so you won't miss out on the next episode* website www.shokuikuaustralia.com www.shokuikuacademy www.rawrecipebook

In the last episode we went over a basic idea of the three treasures. In this episode we will cover the first treasure, Jing.Jing is known as an essence of life. It is the primal energy created when a person is conceived. Each one of us has a certain amount of Jing and through living we start depleting this energy. There are many things that you can do to nurture it and you really want to, because it is quite hard to get Jing back. But I will be covering a few of the herbs that can nourish Jing for longevity, better stamina, fertility, sexual health and more.follow, message me through @inoue.yoko or @shokuiku on instagramsubscribe so you won't miss out on the next episodewebsite www.shokuikuaustralia.com www.shokuikuacademy www.rawrecipebook
