Today's guest, Robbie Bent, and I hit it off right away – kindred spirits, you might say. He's the CEO and co-founder of Othership, which is building a global community to solve the loneliness epidemic, operating the first emotional training classes in North America through a combination of beautiful social spaces, saunas, ice baths, and the leading breathwork mobile app.  I am a big fan of the app and will absolutely be attending the workshop tour's next visit to Austin. Guests on this show often share solutions to what ails the world. But sometimes they come with a hefty price tag. What I love about breathwork is that anyone can do it, anytime you want, for free. And in my experience, it can definitely transform your life in the most powerful of ways. If you're someone who struggles with anxiety, depression, addiction, or just about any other mental or emotional challenges, this will definitely be a really important episode for you. What You're Craving
99. Find Calm in the Chaos Through Mindfulness and Meditation with Manoj Dias

What You're Craving

There is a profound wisdom inside of us that knows exactly what to do and who we are, but that wisdom is often overshadowed and drowned out by the chaos around us. We live in a world full of noise and are constantly bombarded with different messages. Even in the health and wellness realm, with messages around biohacking and healing, it can get overwhelming and difficult to discern the messages that are coming from culture and those that are coming from within our divine wisdom. Molly's guest today is here to explain that it really isn't that complicated. Manoj Dias shares his powerful story and background of being born into a Buddhist family and raised with spirituality. As an adult, he found himself operating out of anxiety and high stress, which lead to sleep disorders and various medications. After finding a meditation class, he got back in touch with his spirituality and learned to observe his thoughts instead of internalizing them. Through this, Manoj found freedom and wants the same for you. In this episode, you will hear Manoj's peaceful and calming message about why learning to get quiet with ourselves is so important. So many people are constantly looking for the next thing that will finally make them happy, when the truth is, it is important that we learn to embrace what is in this moment. A lot of meditation is appreciating what we have instead of looking for the next thing to make us feel whole. This isn't to say that we can't desire change because of course we can, but we need to realize that those things won't make us happy, it is who we become in the process. Manoj also explains the important distinction that we are not our thoughts and our suffering. This feeling of being free from our thoughts can come from the powerful practice of meditation. Episode Quotes: “Meditation isn't about feeling good. It's about being free.” - Manoj Dias Key Highlights Learning how to communicate and discern the messages between culture and ourselves Manoj's take on perfectionism Manoj explains the idea that we are not our thoughts and our suffering We live in an anxious time but we don't have to respond the way the world wants or expects us to Is there a way to befriend our negative thoughts? At the End of the Tunnel is a podcast about hope, inspiration, and people who have found their calling. This is likely something we all fantasize about; finding our life's purpose or our ‘why', and this week's guest has a backstory that many listeners will find extremely relatable. It's the story of being seduced by what Light refers to as the acquisitive approach to happiness. In other words, it's the thinking that as soon as you make a certain amount of money, or get promoted, or find your soulmate, then you will be truly happy. From the outside looking in, Manoj Dias had it all. A decorated corporate marketing career, an enviable paycheck, his good looks, but something still felt off. That persistent ‘offness' ultimately culminated in a panic attack at his high-paying job, which then spiraled into 18-months of depression, insomnia, and disordered eating, with the occasional suicidal ideation thrown in for good measure. Then, he discovered the magic of meditation and found what he'd been looking for all along: a connection to something real.Since first being introduced to meditation and embarking on his own journey to become a teacher, Manoj has helped thousands of people to embrace the stillness of mind and body, enabling them to live fearlessly on the path to a happier and more meaningful life. In this episode, we dive into his early childhood in Sri Lanka and his fascination with becoming a Buddhist monk, his deep desire to belong as an immigrant child in Australia, and what he modeled success on as an 18-year-old father. Manoj shares his belief that he wasn't afforded the power of choice in his career and what meditation taught him about compassion, suffering, ego, and generosity, and we discuss the value of spiritual nourishment, community, and honing in on your purpose. Ultimately, this is an episode about the importance of deeply connecting with what matters to you most, a topic about which Manoj has a wealth of wisdom and lived experience to share, so make sure to tune in today for a truly enlightening conversation!

In an ever-changing and unpredictable world, it is so easy to get swept up in the chaos and anxiety that come with it. This week, the incredible Manoj Dias talks us through how we can find pause, compassion and solitude through mindfulness and meditation. We discuss what is involved in a meditation practice, how it informs how we show up in the world, and what happens when we allow our minds to be calm. Manoj is the co-founder of Open, a modern meditation studio based in California and EVRYMAN, a men's emotional intelligence movement. Whether he’s teaching through words or the silence between them, Manoj’s great love for Buddhist wisdom and contemporary science is present in every encounter. Kat John is REAL, RAW, RELATABLE

This is how I'd best describe Manoj Dias. A humble warrior, beautiful friend to me and a teacher for the world, this legend's energy is something else. We met well over a decade ago in the party scene and even then he was always my safe space. If Manoj was around I felt like an angel was watching over me, for real!Prior to the life he leads now Manoj was climbing the corporate ladder working his ass off and seemingly "had it all". The job, income, invites, parties, you name it. Yet anxiety was building inside him and escaping through drinking and drugs wasn't cutting it anymore. Insomnia was impairing him and his thoughts were all too consuming. This inevitably led to a major panic attack which scared the living shit out of him, but opened the door to finding alternative solutions to what was going on inside. His shift from where he was to where he is today reminds us that real and lasting change for the better is possible. It sure isn't easy but it's possible when you take responsibility and accountability for where you are, what you're prepared to do about it and where you'd prefer to be. The work he shares through writing, meditation and speaking pierces straight through your heart and is the medicine our souls longs for. The world is a better place with Manoj in it.Website - https://www.manojdias.com.au/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/manojdias_/Open - https://www.instagram.com/op_e___n/Insight Timer - https://insighttimer.com/manojdias

We're back with another guest whose episode couldn't be more perfectly timed. You may have heard my chat with him on the TOM Organic podcast earlier this year and, if you did, you'll know I refer to him as my spiritual guru but, if you didn't, you'll very soon understand why. Manoj Dias has taught me so much of what I know about sitting with discomfort, understanding suffering and the deeply life-changing impact of meditation and connection. We explored some of this on the Taboo Podcast but went a whole lot deeper here, which I found enormously helpful particularly during this shit-storm of a year and I hope you do too. Although you might not be able to imagine it of either of us as we are now, it was not wellness that brought us together but our nightclub glory days before our ways to yay really began. That alone is a reminder of my favourite theme – the non-linear nature of life and the way it unravels in many chapters not just the one you know someone from. Born into the Theravada Buddhist tradition, you might think Manoj skipped logically and smoothly straight to his position now as a globally recognised meditation teacher, writer, entrepreneur & co-founder of Open Meditation... But, squeeze a successful corporate career, teenage fatherhood, a mental health breakdown, an eating disorder and an ensuing transformative healing journey in between and you're getting closer to the real picture. Manoj shares all of the facets of himself so generously as well as busting some myths on meditation and I hope you enjoy our chat as much as I did. + Follow Manoj here + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Join our Facebook community here + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

After moving from a monistic community in Sri Lanka to Australia where he was introduced to a variety of abuse, Manoj’s life changed drastically as the seeds of un-wellness were planted. As a young man working in marketing, on paper everything was perfect but a life-shaking anxiety attack changed the course of his self-awareness, and eventually he found yoga and meditation. These tools led him into a life of teaching and sharing, having studied with Jack Kornfield and Sharon Salzberg among others.
