Trent Northen studies the chemistry of microbiomes. More specifically, he studies how exogenous metabolites structure a microbial community, and, in turn, how those microbes change the metabolite pool and grow the microbial population. Because his work is primarily funded by the Department of Energy, he's focused on the microbial community in soil and on plant roots. He describes The basic cycle of plant life, metabolites, and the microbial population and how this complex system affects each of its parts; The methods of his lab's research, including studies on hydroponic plant systems that are paired with the work of colleagues in the field; and The applications for these studies, like carbon restoration in poor, less fertile soils. Trent Northen is the Interim Deputy of the EGSB Division and a Chemist Senior Scientist at the Berkeley Lab of Biosciences. He begins the podcast describing the rich and complex cycles of plant, metabolites, and microbes, noting how plants feed microbes that live in and around their roots and how those microbial populations in turn help the plants with nitrogen-fixing, excluding pathogens, and transporting phosphorous, among other processes. His work mostly focuses on bacteria that live in close proximity to the roots, but he describes how fungi can interact with plant roots over very large distances. For example, biological soil crusts use fungal hyphae in extraordinary ways. He explains this process and ecology in more detail and then he describes his research into the microbial community attached to the roots of the plants—the rhizosphere. He also explains the mechanism of soil depletion in big agriculture, how the compost and organic carbon cycle of decaying plant materials is absent from larger farming systems. Furthermore, he elaborates on ways the work of his lab can and might address such problems as well as studying which plants might grow in low nutrient environments and heal the soil as well as practices for soil carbon restoration and other advances. For more information, see his lab's website, northenlab.org, and eco-fab.org. Available on Apple Podcasts: apple.co/2Os0myK

Hello hello Mythsters, And welcome to our first regular episode of 2O21, in which the plan is to discuss those dragons found in the Northen half of the African continent. Pete at aged 80 has met a fair few people in his lifetime, musicians, artists, business people etc, one of the musicians he became friendly with was the UK singer guitar legend John Martyn. John had been recording at Trident studios London with the assistance of Eric Clapton and Phil Collins, Pete gardner told the sory of how he supplied a special beer from a Northern Brewery called Brahms & Liszt http://www.drpint.moonfruit.com/old-bottled-beers/4550031489 , Pete actually drove it down to Trident and delivered it to John Martyn at the studios on one of his trucking runs to the Capital from Barnoldswick. Pete tells the story of how he had a telephone call from someone who identified himself as Eric Clapton, after a hard working day and Petes supper on the table, he was in no mood to be played around with, Pete told the caller to F...K off only then to realise it was Eric Clapton, Eric had asked Pete if he could send down another crate of that special beer, Brahms & Liszt! Pete wife ( the accountant) had already cashed the cheque that Eric Clapton had sent, what a story! Pete tells the story of how his neighbour, local engineering firm Hope Engineering, made the Harmonica harness that Pete had designed producing 500 in total which Pete had over a period of time, sold to musicians in various parts of the world, even to Neil Young and Bob Dylan with their names engraved, not to mention the transatlantic telephone call Pete received from a certain John Sebastian from California's lovin Spoonful, John just wanted to tell Pete he felt he could get used to the Harness! Pete who had driven over 900 miles to from his home town of Barnoldswick to Mittersill Austria to tell his story for my first ever series of Podcasts, Pete had travelled through 5 country borders and not once did anybody stop him to warn of Covid virus tests or protocol, all of Europes countries were applying Quarantine and generally restricting peoples travel whether by air or road, Pete had a completly trouble free journey! Finally, Pete as a songwriter had written a song about 'the Chicken and the dog' a few years ago after an experience he had had whilst in Austria, this Podcast ends with Pete telling the story in Poetry form much like his poem about 'the Cut' on Episode 3 Podcast. Both 'the Cut' and the 'Chicken and the dog' reflect actual happenings and told in a unique Northen way and accent. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bernie-aird/message

Scanning the pages of Broadway ensemblists on social media, its hard not to take stock of the number of performers who are moving out of New York City. While some of these moves are temporary and others seem more permanent, what I'm struck by is the fact out performing artists have a reason or means to stay in one of the most expensive cities in the country. One of those artists is Lindsay Northen. A 12-year veteran of Broadway's Wicked, she and her husband, actor Jared Bradshaw, recently moved out of their New York City apartment and headed south. Here to tell us how and why is Lindsay Northen. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
I’m Stefan Sittig and welcome to AMERICAN THEATRE ARTISTS ONLINE, where we talk with leading contemporary figures in American Theatre. Jared Bradshaw and Lindsay Northen are a true theatre couple. Both of them have extensive experience performing on Broadway and in theatres across the country. Lindsay is currently in the Broadway cast of Wicked where for years she has understudied the role of Glinda and performed nightly in the ensemble. Jared was in the original Broadway cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and performed in Jersey Boys for 8 years in Chicago, on tour and on Broadway. Both of them are often called to take on the most challenging roles as understudies or swings. Their work often keeps performances running even under the most difficult circumstances and, in many ways, they are the backbone of the Broadway industry. When not on stage, both of them work hard to balance maintaining a career in the performing arts while being parents to their 6 year old daughter Georgia.
Christopher Walsh is originally from Halifax, Canada; probably as far away from Darwin as you could get. After meeting a girl from Darwin in Calgary, Canada, Chris came to Darwin in 2014 so she could show him her home town. As a journalist he thought it would be interesting to drop in and have a chat with the NT News. An hour and a half later, he was offered a job. Fast forward six years and Chris is now married, a father and editor of a new online newspaper called the Northern Territory Independent. Backed by Owen Pike, the NT Independent is an online paper that is seeking to make a difference to the type of coverage Territorians are getting. In an election year, this will be interesting. This is Chris’s story and he is joined by Owen Pike to talk about the newspaper and NT politics. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/territorystory/message
What happens when you land “the show”, the Broadway hit that doesn’t close, and then you are in it…. For a LONG time. Join us as we speak with Lindsay Northen and Bonita Hamilton about just what it means to be in the same show year after year. Don’t get them wrong, they are beyond #grateful, especially for having a consistent job after becoming mothers, but we get down to the nitty gritty of what it feels like to be in Wicked and The Lion King for 12 and 15 years respectively. We cover it all; how they use their daily life experiences to keep their performances fresh, how they deal with missing their kids events (year after year), and how they keep from feeling forgotten. Find more info about the podcast via BroadwayPodcastNetwork.com/mamas. Produced by Dori Berinstein and Alan Seales. Edited by Derek Gunther and Alan Seales.

Lindsay Northen finished her 7pm Wicked show, came home, paid the babysitter, and we were on the interview by 10:30 p.m. Lindsay's husband is also an actor, and their five year old daughter, Georgia, just finished kindergarten. Lindsay is in the ensemble in Wicked and is a Glinda understudy! I couldn't wait to hear how in the world Lindsay and her husband, Jared Bradshaw, made everything work so seemingly smoothly. Lindsay insists it's just a "different kind of hard" compared to other working moms. She insisted it requires an "army of super-awesome babysitters" and sometimes tag-teaming sleep schedules with her husband. I was pretty curious, and probably a little nosy, but loved hearing about Lindsay's life in NYC, in Wicked, auditioning and landing TV opportunities, and more. Just a few of the questions I asked Lindsay: Is Georgia interested in acting? What support system do you have with other broadway moms? What happened to Glinda when Lindsay had to become Glinda in the middle of the show What is it like living in NYC with a young child Her favorite mom hack and Disney tips What she hopes is next for her career What it's like to be pregnant in a Broadway show Check out Lindsay on Instagram at @lindsaynorthen and learn more about her at www.lindsaynorthen.com. And, of course, go see her on Broadway in NYC in Wicked!
In this episode, I am talking about another medicinal mushroom, Chaga. If Reishi is the queen of the mushroom, chaga is known to be the King of the mushroom.Chaga grows naturally on birch trees in cold climates, in Russia, Korea, Japan, Europe, Canada, and Northen regions of the United States. It produces a fruiting body on the trunk of the tree that looks like a burnt charcoal. It was actually also used as a coal extender in some communities but traditionally used to make a medicinal tea.In this episode I go throughThe benefits of chaga mushroomWhat is SOD and how it can help you to age gracefullyAnti-cancer compound in chagaHow chaga grows and how it should be harvestedHow much to take chagastudies that I mentionedhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5333935/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4946216/Are you ready to take Siberian Chaga? Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Currently living in Madrid, Spain. He grew up listening to legendary bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Pink Floyd, Europe among others. At the age of 13 he attended to bass classes which directed him through different styles like heavy, pop, rock, hip hop, alternative, punk etc. After some time he was able to control guitar, organ and many other instruments, he's still experimenting with friends and new people he met. In the mid 90's he's heavily influenced by House style, he starts going to Clubland, (Pacha Buenos Aires) where Hernan Cattaneo used to play, who is still Juan Hougham's national influence.Juan had the opportunity to be behind the scenes, in Cattaneo's sets and many others like Nick Warren, Jimmy Van M Darren Emerson, Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed, Sasha, Satoshi Tomie, Sven Vath , Jon Carter who was in the vanguard of Buenos Aires' music by that time. Under this influence he starts working in the mix of different instruments, electric drums and software developing compositions as a soloist in his home studio. Later on he joined a band using this compositions as a base of their live performances, mixing electric drums, guitars and synthesizers it sounded like a mixture between Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, New Order, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, advanced experimental. Juan is more interested in the electro part of the project and he decides to move on and produce house music mixing them with well known tracks including all his influences and experiences as a musician. Up to now, Juan Hougham has sold over 40 productions which were played at many clubs and private parties as performances for diferents records labels. Right after that, he performed his first live presentation at the club El Infierno playing only his tracks which were very well accepted by the public, motivating him to continue with his DJ/Producer career, therefore he aquires vinyl music and combines his productions with new sounds. His styles are House, Progressive House ,Tech House , performing in underground clubs like El Dorado playing with known DJs like Felipe Fernandez and Ricky Ryan among others. Juan also performed in private parties with importan DJs like Andy Dabula, Miss Akane, Juan Pryor. He decides to go on tour to Europe (Spain) arriving at Ibiza where he is invited by Diego Cid to play in the Grial's terrace with DJ Caro and Cid. After gaining experience and some influence of the island, he moves to Barcelona searching for new sounds, right there is when his new alias was born, John Gham. He moves to Madrid's heart as part of a Vinyl Club Vinyl season being their resident with DJ Shammu, also performing for private parties and afters too. After a tour through Malaga, he performs in the following clubs: Mokelie, Rubi, Colonial Cafe, B4 and private parties. He sets up a studio in Madrid to continue with his production. In another tour to Ibiza he is invited to play with Rubyks Cube(space ibiza) in the Silicon Fiesta's pre party at Privilege. He will perform at private parties and afters also. This time, his musical influence drove him to a new style: minimal house, minimal techno , Tech House (John Gham) but with lots of groove. On the other hand and as a result of assisting to parties performed by Cocoon, DC10 and Monza, the argentine DJ/Producer gets the influence for his new parallel project. His last performances took place at Folies Pigalle (Paris), Cafe 1001 (London), Virtual (Madrid) Living (Franfurt), he was resident DJ at Jet-Lab Partys in Deep (no doubt one of the best night clubs in Madrid), he was DJ resident at one of the most mythical and underground club of Madrid "Taboo" -last shows _ U60311 (Hessen /Frankfurt ) Living xxl (Hessen /Frankfurt) With the alias Juan Hougham his style is House,Progressive House, With his other alias, "John Gham" his style is "Tech House", Minimal ,Techno Nowadays Juan Hougham signed with Flat Belly Recordings, the label of the famous DJ Ricky Stone. the Single "Sun Of Angel" inc (Montero Remix) that was top 100 Beatport (Progressive House ) The other alias John Gham signed with "Peon Music" from Frankfurt his first reference in Vinyl "Whiplash Ep " 12" and for "Kung Fu Dub"Label from the Famous Dj Jeff Bennett, The Ep "Introducing by John Gham.
