In the SPaMCast 827, we will begin cracking groupthink in prioritization with a discussion of urgency vs. importance Evaluating the interplay between urgency and importance is a powerful work intake approach. Teams and project management offices regularly use an Eisenhower Matrix or variant to visualize the relationship between these two factors. The bottom line in this approach is that you should prioritize work that is important and urgent above work that is just urgent. We also have a visit from who brings her You Are Not Alone column to the podcast. Keis and I discuss the career path of a Scrum Master. Is there a career path or is the role a life avocation? Master Work Intake! Mastering Work Intake by and I hit the bookshelves earlier this year. We have also been running cohort-based workshops to help expose and solve this dirty little secret. Two of the questions we have gotten as we have promoted the workshops are: What is a cohort-based workshop? What value will I get if I join? Both are greater questions and we have an answer! Join us for a one-hour open house on September 11th at 11 am EDT to explore how to diagnose and solve work intake challenges, the most critical issue facing organizations today. We are taking short trips (learning the ropes) with longer trips in the offing. We rely on GPS a lot. I guess that's not very different from most travelers. However, the more we deviate from the heavily populated and traveled routes, the less ubiquitous and solid WiFi and cell coverage we find. GPS becomes somewhat unreliable. When the GPS is intermittent you must plan for it to be unreliable. We have discovered that we need an old-school paper map. For those of a certain age, a paper map provides turn-by-turn instructions via a static interface. It also provides a sense of the overall broad journey; an early version of a search albeit manual. Chapter 2 titled “A Roadmap For The Journey“ is a paper roadmap for the remainder of How To Be A Stoic. In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Mark Baker on his book The Needle of Avocation (Cuthbert's People) (March 28, 2023)Hilda is the second sister, the plain one, the overlooked, the put upon. She is also the finest needlewoman in Northumbria, though she distrusts anyone who tells her so. Her mother, Edith, was born a slave and seduced and married a thegn's son, a fact which embarrasses Hilda greatly.Edith has tricked the local ealdorman into betrothing his only son and heir, Anfaeld, to Hilda, an arrangement unwelcome to everyone but Edith, and particularly to Hilda who would rather retire to a nunnery and spend her life in embroidery. It is Hilda's right to refuse the marriage, but the future of her mother and sisters may depend on her making the match, a role that should have fallen to her enchanting older sister Elswyth, who was kidnapped by vikingar three years earlier. On the way to her wedding, Hilda meets a heartbroken king, his petulant child bride, an abbess who wrestles with a great torment, and the shy young man she is supposed to marry.Feeling herself mistreated by them all, including her prospective mother-in-law, Hilda resolves to refuse the marriage and become a nun. But first she must solve the double enigma of what really happened to Elswyth, and why Anfaeld himself has not refused the marriage. The Needle of Avocation (Cuthbert's People): Baker, G. I once read a sound piece of advice that said we need an "avocation" to provide us with a sense of meaning and purpose when we retire. As I was writing an article about this idea I realized that - for me - an avocation is required, but not sufficient. In addition to an avocation, I need an audience. I need someone who shares my passion and interest in the art and science of aging. My MINDRAMP colleague, Roger Anunsen fills this role for me. This podcast is a reading of the article I wrote for Rebecca Crichton, Executive Director of the Northwest Center for Creative Aging.
Lorrie and Fritz Rumpel had a dream for Savannah. They wrote a play about Suzy King Taylor and led a production team that performed the play in the Summer of 2022. As he was in the midst of bringing the play to life, Fritz sat down with me to talk about his life's journey that brought him out of Savannah and back again. Fritz and Lorrie now lead tours in Savannah that emphasize the story of the Black Church in Savannah. They are also theatre people who are passionate about the power and potential of community theatre. This episode first appeared on the Living Creatures podcast.

We have all heard the saying that idle hands are the enemies play thing. It can be easy to just go to work, come home and fill that time with un-productive and non-life giving activity. That ease leads to an unbalanced life that feels blah and passionless and can make us irritable and uneasy and so much more. In todays episode I discuss how important it is for men to have an avocation... and how that can impact their families and their communities. Help grow the show by giving a rating and review!!

Experiencing abuse is NOT a joke. It can paralyze you, traumatize you, and prevent you from enjoying or living life to the fullest. Raising awareness of any forms of abuse, sharing relatable stories, the mindset of the victim and survivor, and things you can do to help are the premise of this podcast. Grannyism - The truth of the matter is there are people who have no respect for others or their boundaries and consider themselves privileged enough to cross those boundaries no matter what the victim says or does to prevent the occurrence, what their employer says about having no tolerance of it on the job, or even if they have been in trouble for committing these acts before. They just do not care. So when people are blamed for this ugly occurrence that has happened to them you pretty much just made things worse. ~ Elegant Granny Last week's episode National Sexual Violence Resource Center Instagram Challenge Publications Support Proactive Eye podcast Support Heal With Granny Email: proactiveye@gmail.com Please make use of these resources: If you are in immediate danger, call *911 National Domestic Violence hotline 1(800)799-SAFE National Child Abuse hotline 1(800)4-A-Child National Sexual Assault hotline 1(800)656-HOPE National Suicide Prevention hotline 1(800)273-8255 National Sexual Violence Resource Center: https://www.nsvrc.org/ Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network: https://www.rainn.org/ ***************************************************************************************************************************************************HEALING IS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS; NOT A ONE SHOT DEAL! ~ Elegant Granny Connect with me: Heal With Granny LinkedIn Alignable HappsTV Instagram - @proactiveeye Twitter - @proactiveeye Reference: Inside Southern. This episode will about the victims experience with sexual violence and sexual assault. According to the RAINN website (Rape, abuse, and incest national network), every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted; and every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. From 2009-2013, Child Protective Services agencies substantiated, or found strong evidence to indicate that, 63,000 children a year were victims of sexual abuse. A majority of child victims are 12-17. Of victims under the age of 18: 34% of victims of sexual assault and rape are under age 12, and 66% of victims of sexual assault and rape are age 12-17. Meanwhile, only 5 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison. Every day, hundreds of Americans are affected by sexual violence. Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence are important to talk about. So many people feel ashamed of what has happened to them or have been threatened of what will happen to them if they tell their story. No one, absolutely no one, should ever feel like they are worthless, have no value, or not important because of this traumatic event. It does not matter what gender, age, race, nationality, sexual orientation, or creed, no one deserves to be treated with this form or any form of abuse. Avocation is defined as a hobby or activity one does outside of their occupation. And in this case, Don Linke explores some of his musical favorites he personally has enjoyed revamping during his recent “coronavirus vacation.” All selections of this week’s episode are played by Linke himself.
Jerry Yudelson is the author of 12 professional books in the field of green building and sustainable design, an arena where he's known globally as “The Godfather of Green.” As a campus organizer for the very first Earth Day in 1970, Jerry's recollections are featured during an Earth Week in the A+E History Channel's podcast, History This Week. Jerry's nine-word resume reads simply: Engineer by training. Marketer by inclination. Writer by Avocation.” His new book, The Godfather of Green: An Eco-Spiritual Memoir, published on Earth Day 2020, combines his career as an active environmentalist with an inspiring story of spiritual awakening and discovery. In this episode, Jerry shares what it was like to live with out-of-control air and water pollution in the 1960s and 70s in Los Angeles and how he was involved in organising the very first Earth Day on his college Campus in 1970 which of course, helped lead to real change. Jerry also shares his reflections on what we can learn from the current Coronavirus pandemic and he tells us all about his latest book, titled the “Godfather of Green: An eco spiritual memoir”. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Find the show notes here ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ *** SOCIALIZE WITH US *** Website Instagram Facebook Twitter YouTube
Avocation is a noun that refers to ‘a hobby.’ You may recognize the word ‘vocation’ — a synonym of ‘career’ — in our word of the day. This word evolved from the Latin vocare (vo CAR ay) which means ‘call’ as in ‘a calling.’ The addition of the prefix A gives us a word that means ‘a calling away’ from one career. My dad always felt it was important to have an avocation to be a well-rounded person. In his view, there was nothing more boring than a person who has nothing to talk about except work.

Hobbies, deep breathing, intentional empty-mindedness, these are just a few ways someone can engage in active rest. Don't like hobbies? Nobel Prize winners do. Dislike silence? Maybe some deep breathing with light music is your thing. Sitting to think and ponder sounds boring? There is purpose in your pain. God will put you in a position you may not be ready for but He'll give you grace. Never say never! What God calls you to will make sense/coincide with who you are, your natural abilities, and the things you gravitate to. God is the source; everything else provided is the resource. Without faith it's impossible to please God. - Hebrews 11:6Don't let fear of falling, or fear or failing keep you from seeing a miracle that God wants you to see or experience. Exercise your faith in new ways, in new areas. Faith Vs. Fear The opposite of love is fear.Perfect love casts out all fear. - 1 John 4:18Base all your decisions based on love instead of fear; love for God, love for passions placed in your heart, love for people. Vocation- pays you // Avocation- hobbies your love to do. God has us all on our own journey at our own speed.Someone else's speed is not your own. Trust the pace He's (God) set. If God gave us what we're asking for at a time we're not yet ready to receive it, it would be a curse not a blessing.Stay on the journey you've been set on and learn what you need to learn to prepare for that blessing.Obscurity is the dark room of the divine. We never want to be over exposed and under developed.Don't despise obscurity. While you're in Gods dark room let Him fully develop you.Take the time to give more attention to the preparation. You can find Daniel Gray on the web at DanielGray.ccCheck out Pastor Daniel's YouTube Channel here!Follow Daniel Gray on Twitter!Follow Daniel Gray on Instagram!

(Season 3, Episode 5)
The Latin root word voc and its variant vok both mean “call.” These roots are the word origins of a fair number of English vocabulary words, including vocal, vocabulary, invoke, and provoke. The roots voc and vok are easily recalled through the words vocal, of “calling,” and revoke, to “call” back.Like this? Build a competent vocabulary with Membean.

Anthony and Jeff consider the plight of mice in a cage, given the opportunity to drink clean, natural water, or water laced with illicit drugs. Is their choice dependent on the pure addictive properties of the drugs, each individual mouse's brain chemistry, or a simple lack of other interesting things to do? What does this experiment tell us about how we approach drug use in humans? And why is there always a 7-11 involved? We Have Concerns is entirely listener supported!
