Their ability to enjoy the journey, rather than stay single-mindedly focused on the results, and prioritize doing things the right way (4:50). Another leader who has done just that is Louie Sharp, owner of Sharp Auto Body and a venerable leader in the industry. What do Kobe Bryant, Ben Hogan and the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team have in common? They were all underdogs who used their unique approaches to stay focused on their processes—to unbelievable results. In this episode of From the Editors, vice president of content Bryce Evans and editorial director Anna Zeck dive deeper into three unique stories of triumphing over adversity, and how this month’s feature on the Best Workplaces ties into that concept (2:00). On the 40th anniversary of their historic win against the Soviet Union, we take a look at Herb Brooks’ unique strategy for coaching the U.S. Olympic Hockey team (4:50). Next, we discuss one of Bryce’s favorite golfers, Ben Hogan, who dominated the scene in the late 1940s and early 1950s, despite numerous injuries and disadvantages. Finally, Kobe Bryant’s untimely death resurfaced a powerful speech from his jersey retirement (14:50).  All three of those iconic underdogs took their (real or perceived) disadvantages starting out and turned them into benefits (16:43). They were able to focus on the journey and their processes, instead of the results, which ultimately guided their careers. As leaders, it’s important not to get caught up in the goals and the results, and instead focus on how you can get there (16:43). That’s exactly what the receivers of Ratchet+Wrench’s first-ever Best Workplaces did, to great effect.

Summary: In this episode I talk to Bryce Evans about healing and recovering from Anxiety & Depression with Photography. Bryce is founder of The One Project - the first photography community for depression and anxiety. His art has been exhibited internationally and his experience in building communities and using marketing for good has amassed communities of over 52,000 people on Instagram and a growing community of over 5,000 for The One Project. The One Project: It started with Bryce’s story, creating his own set of techniques to express, understand and eventually overcome severe depression and anxiety. As the project evolved, it became clear that more people could benefit from these photography and storytelling techniques and that alternative outlets were needed to help develop the conversation and our understanding of mental health. With no central location or hub connecting all of these stories, The One Project’s online platform was established to help teach therapeutic photography, educate people on the techniques through online courses and connect you with others who understand what you're going through. Links: http://www.theoneproject.ca/ In this particular episode you will learn: - How photography can be part of your recovery from Anxiety & Depression - How video games and social media can be a big distraction from life - What "The One Project" is - How to look at the world through a different lens - How you can take the focus off of your self and onto the external world - Looking for beauty in the world - How sharing photo's can help the recovery process
