Mercedes and Andy Lilienthal take us on a deep dive into their ambitious plans to traverse the Transamerica Trail - a 7,100-mile network of back roads, dirt paths, and trails stretching from North Carolina to Oregon. This adventure represents the ultimate American road trip for off-road enthusiasts who want to experience the country's hidden landscapes. With years of experience between them, the Lilienthals break down the preparation required for their month-long journey. Their 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness will serve as both transportation and home base. Outfitted with a rooftop tent, recovery gear, specialized lighting, reinforced components, and carefully considered power management solutions to make a long stay feasible. Mercedes explains her methodical approach to navigation, using a combination of digital GPX files and traditional paper maps to guide their path across 15 states. What makes this journey particularly challenging is the ever-changing nature of the trail itself. Recent hurricanes and flooding have altered sections of the route, requiring extensive research and flexibility in planning. The couple shares insights into their emergency preparedness strategy, including redundant communication devices and how they approach the inevitable challenges of remote travel.Beyond the technical aspects, they offer a glimpse into the human side of such an ambitious undertaking - how they manage the dynamics of spending a month together in close quarters, their methods for documenting the journey, and what they hope to gain from this coast-to-coast adventure on America's less-traveled paths.Curious about their progress or planning a similar journey yourself? Follow their adventure through social media and their website at @CrankshaftCulture, where they'll be sharing updates, photographs, and insights throughout their Transamerica Trail expedition.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, TexasDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. In this powerful and transparent episode of the Uncommon Wealth Podcast, Phillip Ramsey sits down with Gabe Chamberlin—retirement plan specialist, musician, and Christ follower—whose life is a testament to what it means to live on mission. Though his career is rooted in the financial world as a wholesaler for Transamerica, Gabe stands out for his authenticity, his faith, and his refusal to conform to industry norms. The conversation dives into Gabe's transformation from a self-focused lifestyle to one centered on purpose and service. He opens up about a pivotal moment in 2007, when a night of drinking spiraled into legal trouble, jail time, and a life-altering wake-up call. It was in a cold jail cell, with nothing but books and God's Word, that Gabe surrendered his life to Christ. And in a beautiful twist only God could orchestrate—his now-wife Brooke made the same decision to follow Jesus on the very same night, though they hadn't spoken. That shared moment of divine alignment became the spiritual foundation of their marriage and their future.Gabe shares how faith now shapes every part of his life: from how he works, to how he parents, to how he uses his musical gifts to lead worship. He also reflects on a meaningful men's retreat, where an unexpected cold plunge became a symbol of courage and surrender. Letters from loved ones during that trip reminded him just how deeply his life has impacted others, often without his even knowing. This is a story about redemption, mission, and the grace of second chances. Same Night is more than a title—it's a reminder that transformation often begins when we least expect it, and sometimes, when it happens in tandem, it changes everything.
Ever lie awake at night wondering where your next deal is going to come from? Does the constant stream of rejection fill your future with uncertainty?Hearing constant "nos" can cause you to develop a scarcity mindset, and honestly, it's not only destroying your pipeline but also your company's potential.Authentic sales expert Scott Ramey joins us in this episode to guide you through the essential shift from scarcity vs. abundance. He's here to lead and inspire sellers, leaders, and businesses to build trust, take action, and drive results by adopting an abundance mentality.Meet Scott RameyScott Ramey, an authentic sales expert and former Fortune 500 C-Suite Executive, brings over three decades of corporate experience and more than $100 billion in successful sales. As the Founder of The Ramey Group, he is a seasoned leader, speaker, and mentor. Notably, Scott served as an EVP at Transamerica, Nationwide, and Corebridge Financial, where he raised hundreds of billions of dollars and led large teams. His deep expertise in business development, team building, and leadership empowers individuals and organizations to achieve remarkable success.Scarcity Vs. Abundance Mindset: Let's Talk About ItWhy is the scarcity vs. abundance conversation so important for us to discuss? Scott shares how it all starts with the law of vibration. What you bring to the meeting with your prospects will be felt by them.If you're nervous, desperate, or upset, they will feel it no matter how much you try to hide it. The scarcity mindset tends to run prospects off, but with authentic interest, you may be able to reel them back into the conversation.Scott also dives into how people tend to carry their day-to-day burdens on their shoulders without realizing it, even him. At 19, he had his first anxiety attack, but kept his anxiety to himself until he opened up to his daughter two years ago. He realized how much was lifted off his shoulders, just by opening up to someone. He now encourages other sellers to find a mindful activity that helps them calm their minds so they're not bringing a scarcity mindset into conversations with their prospects.Developing an Abundant Mindset: How Can Sales Leaders HelpScott shares how sales leaders can help their reps with a scarcity vs. abundance mindset:Don't have unrealistic expectations or quotas.Create an environment that's safe to learn and develop. If you just start there, sales leaders can help remove the pressure from their sales reps. This will allow them to grow into an abundant mindset that helps drive sales.“When tension exists, the outcomes will not align.” - Scott Ramey.ResourcesLearn more about Scott and his teachings at thescottramey.comConnect with Scott on LinkedIn Sponsorship OffersThis episode is brought to you in part by Hubspot. With HubSpot sales hubs, your data tools and teams join a single platform to close deals and turn prospects into pipelines. Send Me A Text Message I would love to know where you are listening to me from!!Hello again Fellow Golfists, I wanted to share that I had a great outing to the driving range at Sacramento National on 3.22.25. I also wanted to share that I had a great time practicing with my new Scottie Scheffler Inspired / Style 5 iron with the correctly molded grip to enhance the attention that needs to be paid to having proper golf fundamentals. I used a Golden Ram Tour Grind Axial 5 iron. I also had a good session with my Honma CL 708 Forged blades that I had recently reshafted with a set of Precision FM 6.5 shafts that were originally in my Golden Ram Tour Grinds. And once I made it to the practice green I had a good session with my Wilson 8802 and my PING B61 putter. I also had the chance to meet someone who is considered a golf institution in the greater Sacramento area. His name is Clyde Daniels. Mr. Daniels was able to briefly share with me a few stories of what it was like to visit The Masters, organize a junior golf clinic with Charlie Sifford, and see Calvin Peete in his prime at the 1982 US Open at Pebble Beach. Not to mention, he was able to qualify and play in the Transamerica at Silverado Golf Resort in Napa California, which was a stop on the PGA Champions Tour circuit. About Mike Boccia:Mike Boccia has been in Sales and Marketing for over 25 years. He's been called a “serial entrepreneur” since starting his first business, landscaping, at 15. Then came a limo company while attending Hofstra University, a nightclub at 21, a restaurant at 23, and the list goes on.Mike really honed his sales skills as a licensed advisor with Transamerica Financial Advisors, where he had hundreds of clients in several states (without ever having a customer complaint!). The old saying goes, “Markets don't always go up because of what happens, but often because of what doesn't happen.” The past year saw markets move higher while several expectations entering 2024 did not come to fruition. A recession did not occur, the economy did not stop growing, corporate earnings did not fall flat, inflation did not climb again, the Fed did not eschew rate cuts, and the presidential election did not deteriorate into a drawn-out period of uncertainty. Today, the question is, what won't happen in 2025? Look ahead with a new Market Pulse from Tom Wald, Transamerica Asset Management, Inc., CIO. Hear Tom break down expectations and offer his year-end forecasts for stocks and fixed income, the economy, inflation, and much more. Get insight and analysis to help you be ready to pursue your investing goals in 2025.

In this episode of ThimbleberryU, we begin a two-part series debunking common myths about retirement. Jag and Amy Walls dive into the misconceptions that many people have when planning for their post-work years. The first myth we tackle is the belief that you need $1 million to retire comfortably. Amy explains that while this is often thrown around as a benchmark, the reality is far more nuanced. Retirement comfort depends on various factors like social security, pensions, and personal expenses. Many retirees live well on less than $1 million, provided they have a balanced financial plan and modest needs. Everyone's situation is different, and it's important to consider your own income sources and expenses, rather than focusing on an arbitrary number.Next, we explore the idea that retirement means never working again. Amy highlights that many retirees continue to work part-time, start businesses, or freelance to stay active and fulfilled. In fact, 56% of retirees plan to work in some capacity after retirement, according to a Transamerica study. Interestingly, however, studies show that those who make a clean break from work tend to be happier in retirement. The trick is finding purpose, whether through work, volunteering, or family. We also address the common belief that downsizing your home will always save money. While this might seem like a logical step, it doesn't always pan out financially. Real estate fees, moving costs, and potential renovations in the new home can eat into savings. Additionally, many retirees find themselves emotionally attached to their homes, especially when considering family gatherings or memories, making downsizing less appealing or practical.Another popular myth is that all debt should be paid off before retirement. While it's a comforting idea to enter retirement debt-free, it's not always necessary or even beneficial. Amy notes that paying off debt might require large withdrawals from retirement accounts, which can lead to significant tax consequences. Instead, it's important to assess your cash flow, the interest rates on your debt, and whether paying it off makes sense in the bigger picture. Finally, we debunk the notion that Medicare will cover all healthcare costs. While Medicare is essential, it doesn't cover everything. Gaps like long-term care, dental, and vision expenses can add up, with retirees needing an estimated $315,000 to cover healthcare costs. It's crucial to plan for these expenses early and consider supplement plans or health savings accounts. In our next episode, where we'll tackle five more retirement myths. To get in touch with Amy and her team at Thimbleberry Financial, call 503-610-6510 or visit thimbleberryfinancial.com.

Co-author of "How money works for women", Kim Scouller is recognized as a leading advocate for women and their finances. She has been an attorney for more than 30 years and served as in-house counsel for one of the largest financial services companies in the world. During her tenure at Transamerica, she served in several executive roles for the company's insurance affiliates, broker-dealers, mutual funds, and investment advisors. In her last four years there, she served as the president of the Transamerica broker-dealer with the largest number of registered representatives. In this episode of Asian Pacific Voices Radio, Kim Scouller discusses teaching people how to manage money wisely. She shares her knowledge with women, underserved communities, and communities that haven't really been focused on the financial services industry. As one of the few women broker-dealer presidents in the U.S., she traveled around the country talking with people, especially women, about the steps to identify and achieve their financial goals. Wanting more control over her time, Kim left her corporate career to start her own financial business and law firm based in the Atlanta area. A Certified Financial Educator, Kim continues to speak with women about the importance and impact of financial education that leads to literacy.

The Top Regrets of Retired Americans and How to Avoid Them - Ep #62In episode 61, I shared the top financial regrets of Americans and how to avoid them but in this episode, I'll share the top regrets of Retired Americans and how to avoid them. The future is unknown so no one can plan their retirement perfectly we will all have some regrets, but it's important to be aware of what the most common regrets are for retirees so we can take action now to avoid them in the future. In the tips, tricks, and strategies portion, I will share a tip regarding how to spend more in retirement. In this episode...78% of retirees wish they would have saved more [2:10]Retire Earlier [13:44]Dynamic Retirement Spending Strategies [15:59]More than 6 in 10 retirees say they would go back and change their retirement planning if they had the opportunity. This comes courtesy of a survey conducted by the Lincoln Financial Group and their results reveal many of the top regrets of retirees. businesswire.com referenced this survey and also shared 10 ways today's retirees say they would have planned differently.Save MoreAccording to an annual study by the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, a full 78% of retirees wish they would have saved more. The majority (70 percent) would advise changing savings habits by saving or investing more or earlier. Other savings regrets included not making the most of their 401(k) plan, not enrolling in the plan early enough, and not saving the maximum amount allowed by their plan. What if I told you that if you invested $5000 per year for 40 years from age 25 to age 65 ($200,000 total) you could then withdraw ~$140,000 each year for the following 30 years? Not having a plan for retirementAccording to a Transamerica study it found that only 18% of retirees have a written plan. This is one of my favorite things to do with clients when we plan financially. As we enter the data in their financial plan, and add their goals and wishes, it shows them everything that is possible. It's especially great when I am able to surprise clients by telling them they can retire much sooner than they thought they could.Plan more carefully for the fun they want to have in RetirementTwo-thirds of pre-retirees (68%) have not completed a budget of anticipated income and expenses, according to Fidelity Investments. With the proper financial plan, I can show how they can spend much more in the earlier years, while they have the best health to do so. It's highly unlikely you will run out of money. In fact, overall, the retiree finishes with more than double their starting wealth in a whopping 2/3rds of the scenarios, and is more likely to finish with quintuple, or 5 times, their starting wealth than to finish with less than their starting principal.Plan For Health CareMany people are surprised when they hear that Medicare does not cover everything. The annual expenses for a couple in retirement are around $12,000. One of the best things a person can do to prepare for healthcare costs in retirement is to exercise regularly. In episode 29 of this podcast I shared how many retirees can have a healthy...

Here's part of the conversation between Karissa, Sarah, and Stewart: Karissa: It's truly bespoke. If a lender has extremely long duration needs, we can find that for them. Right now, it's really hard to find that because of what's going on in the market with interest rates, everybody wants short. However, if a lender needs three- to five-year duration, that's available as well. Stewart: That's cool. And so just so everyone's aware, Aegon Asset Management is part of Aegon, which is a massive insurance company. And Transamerica here in the US is part of that as well. Can you remind me and our listeners of the relationship between Aegon Asset Management and Transamerica on the commercial mortgage loan side? And just kind of set the stage for the rest of the podcast in terms of how you work together. Karissa: Sure. We began investing for them about 40 years ago, and we currently have a portfolio of about $11 billion on our general account. We also manage assets for third party investors, and we have about a $3 billion that we're managing for them.1 Typical loan sizes are around $15 million with a range of 3 to 50 million depending on the size of the insurer. We invest across all major sectors, primary, secondary, and tertiary markets. We're headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa so we understand the nuances that are outside the top 100s. We've historically and continued to be an active investor in those markets when opportunities present themselves. Stewart: Yeah, it's funny, I had a friend who covered your shop in Cedar Rapids from Chicago years and years ago. I have fond memories of that area. So Karissa, a lot has changed in the market environment in the last two years in this space. You just referred to it a moment ago. And for all asset classes, but in particular, how has CML origination and allocation been affected?

Ever wanted to go cycle the TransAmerica Bike Trail? Well this episode features Kari Loia who did just that with his 75 year old dad. What makes this journey even more unique though was that Kari's dad Merv was suffering from Alzheimers. This made the trip far more poignant for Kari, as it was the final opportunity for them both to live out a goal which they had both talked about for years - to bike across America. Kari talked me through his experiences of this trip, the extra complications brought about from having to also be caregiver to his father, who while physically fit and able to take on the journey, was still showing lots of signs of Alzheimers slowly taking hold. This trip really came about because Kari decided to look at what his father could still do, rather than consign him away to Alzheimers completely. As Kari mentioned during the episode, for each of the 73 days of their journey, his father could not recall where they started or where they ended their trip. Yet his father had a beaming grin, as he cycled up Hoosier Pass, snowbanks either side of him, and was living completely in the moment the entire time on that 7,500km journey. Kari also took the time to journal this bike tour by way of transcribing over 300 conversations had with strangers along the way. He would later turn this into a book titled Conversations Across America which I can highly recommend. You can learn more about Kari via his website: ) www.dreamerdoercoaching.com To purchase his book check out this link - Conversations Across America Support the showEnjoying Seek Travel Ride?
