We discuss the pleasant surprises/additions, but also dive into key questions for all four position groups. After, we discuss the racist and misogynistic abuse of Bunny Shaw, and why shouting 'There's no place for that!' isn't enough. In this special WSL-focused episode of Into the Channel, Dino and Grant take a look at the title race across the pond. First, we quickly recap Chelsea's mid-week stumble vs. Liverpool and the idea that the Blues were gasping for air on their way to the finish line. Then, we cover Manchester City's devastating home loss to Arsenal, with a little extra reporting by Grant, who was in the building at Joie Stadium for the match. Did Manchester City get too defensive in the second half? Were Arsenal's subs perfectly executed by Jonas Eidevall? Is the loss of Bunny Shaw too much for the Sky Blues to overcome? We ask those questions (and more) and try our best to answer them. Lastly, we talk about Chelsea again -- who maybe aren't quite wheezing to the finish, after all. In Emma Hayes' final home match with the club, they battered Bristol City 8-0 and completely obliterated the goal differential-lead Manchester City had going into the day. Courtney & André get straight into the news of María Sánchez requesting a trade, why she may want out of Houston, and a few places we think she'd cook. Then we look at the mess in Portland, Mike Norris' reassignment, and their reported global search for a coach. Then we get into the IG fallout from the FA Cup semifinal where Millie Turner decided to post a still photo without considering, or caring, about the racism and hate it'd bring to Lauren James. We also get into bias in refereeing and the danger it puts Mayra Ramírez and Bunny Shaw in, and the damage it's already caused. We finish with Heated & Hyped, where we're hype about the WNBA, Barbra Banda and the UWCL, and heated about WNBA salary #discourse and Santos refusing to believe 19 players. Mary Fowler is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast! Here she sits down to talk her early years in the Netherlands, her rise through the ranks of the Australian national team, her international debut at 15, feeling the support from Papua New Guinea during the World Cup and most importantly, her love of chips. The Australian forward joins hosts Paul Dickov and George Kelsey to discuss her life on and off the pitch in Manchester. Since joining City in the summer of 2022 from French side Montpellier, Fowler has shown her promise in a number of positions across the front line and in midfield. Still just 21, the creative talent has already played 46 times for Australia including last summer's run to the World Cup quarter-final. Now she's competing for a place in Gareth Taylor's side as we compete on three fronts domestically, with trophies still up for grabs in the Barclays Women's Super League, FA Cup and Continental Cup. After the likes of Jill Roord, Bunny Shaw and Steph Houghton, Fowler is the latest member of our women's team to star on the podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Another day, another loss to Man City Women. But this time we did it without conceding a single goal to Bunny Shaw! We move. Incrementally, but we move. We also look back at the frustrating Merseyside draws for both teams and ask: are we taking the one club mentality too far? We wonder if Ange will agree to have someone protect Vic at corners this weekend against Brighton, and are mindful of not counting our chickens against the women's FA Cup opponents Charlton. Plus! In this episode we discussed all the games from the first week back of the WSL. Including Manchester City's 5-1 win over Liverpool, Chelsea's 3-1 win over United and the craziest game of the week which was the 4-3 Tottenham win against West Ham! We questioned West Ham's new signings, wondered if Marc Skinner should leave Manchester United and if Mary Earps will go to Arsenal? Of course we couldn't go without praising the Bunny Shaw and Lauren James hattricks, Lauren Hemp's amazing skills as a gymnast and Kristie Mewis on her battle with the wind. Oh and like most football fans we raged over the FIFA Best awards (specifically the world 11). In today's episode we went over the goals galore of Gameweek 8 in the WSL. Including Man City's 7-0 win against Tottenham, Beth Mead's amazing Arsenal return and Leicester once again proving to be a tricky opponent for the top teams! Aya forgot how to speak English and had an odd attachment to Bristol City. Domie had enough of everyones defence and Jaya announced her new support for Manchester City which we suspect purely exists because of her Jamaican sister Bunny Shaw. We also laughed about Kyra Cooney-Cross's misfortunate spelling error, ranted about the Lionesses squad announcement and WSL viewership levels. Lads, it's Tottenham. Bunny Shaw and Manchester City absolutely wrecked Spurs in the WSL, and proved just how far the North London side still has to go to crack the top four. Earlier in the week, Sam Kerr did something similar to Paris FC, and Chelsea exposed the French upstarts as less the hipster's choice and more the minnow riding their luck in the Champions League. Eric and Evan top off the episode parsing the Team GB of it all with England trying to keep their Olympics qualification hopes alive in the UEFA Women's Nations League. With another international break coming, the WSL reminded us what we'll be missing - 26 goals across 6 games! Even better, 2 were from the returning Beth Mead. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City continue their free-scoring ways, Liverpool and Man U get back on track and the league's mid/lower league teams are consistently inconsistent. Ohio native Taylor Huff is one of the most hyped players to put on a Lady Vol soccer jersey since Jamaica international Bunny Shaw. The four-time High School All-American and 2020 National Player of the Year joined Tennessee in 2021. In her first season, she made the SEC All-Freshman Team and All-SEC Second Team, helping the team to its first SEC Tournament crown in more than a decade. Huff was called into the U.S. women's national team's under-20 roster in the spring. This season, she leads an all-star Lady Vols squad with five assists (on top of three goals). Kate from the MCWFC Official Supporters Club comes on to review City's victories in the FA Cup and the Conti Cup semi-final. We talk about the young players making a name for themselves and debate whether or not Bunny Shaw should be the full-time striker.
In this episode Courtney & André take you across Europe to discuss Katoto's hat trick, Mbock Bathy saving Lyon, Bunny Shaw supremacy and more. Then they hop over to the NWSL to get you caught up on notable player moves before discussing the NWSL Board of Governors' "decision" and where the North Carolina Courage are getting it all wrong in their weak ass charm offensive after re-signing Jaelene Daniels. Then Heated & Hyped returns! André is heated at NWSL owners over the CBA while Courtney is hype about WoSo providing two reasons to get into your Honey Nut Feelios. Courtney & André return with another fresh episode! We start off by acknowledging and elevating NWSL players' words, requests, and instructions for support. We also read poignant words from Imani Dorsey, Black Women's Player Collective board member and Gotham FC outside back. With their blessing, we move forward and always in solidarity. Then we discuss recent NWSL news, and wonder if this is another okey doke from Steve Baldwin (#SellTheTeamSteve #SellToMichele). Then we talk about the drop of the Black Women's Player Collective's new logo, website, and ADIDAS partnership. Courtney is already dreaming of an Ivy Park collab, and both of us are hyped about the board and members. If you can, please donate to the BWPC directly at bwplayercollective.org. After that we get into the USWNT roster, shoutout Christen Press & Crystal Dunn for protecting their peace, then move onto the madness that is the playoff race at the end of this NWSL season. We discuss the recent games, how much the table shifted, how much it's likely to continue to shift, and ponder how Gotham always seems to have at least two games in hand. We take a quick break then come back to talk about the UWCL, including Melvine Malard on her bike and Selma Bacha ballin. Then we move to the WSL where we check-in on Hope Powell's Brighton, and drag Gareth Taylor for that nonsense he said about Ellen White and Bunny Shaw. In Heated & Hyped we reminisce about THAT Gotham goal, talk Venezia shirts, and André has some words for the white players in the NWSL.
