In this episode of the 3DPOD, we take a deep dive into 3D printing for golf. Cobra PUMA Golf has gone further than other firms, employing Multi Jet Fusion, binder jet, and powder bed fusion for production golf clubs. Better putters and metal drivers are now achievable through 3D printing. But how did Ryan Roach, Cobra Golf's Director of Innovation, and his team make this possible? What challenges did they face? And is 3D printing a passing trend in golf or a fundamental evolution? Our producer Jake explores some golf-specific questions, leaving us convinced that the union of golf and 3D printing represents a transformative development for both. Roach will also be speaking at Additive Manufacturing Strategies on Feb. 4, 2025 in New York City to discuss in more detail about Cobra Golf's journey to expand use of additive manufacturing into its product line.

THE KELLY CARDENAS PODCAST PRESENTS MIKE YAGLEY has worked on several programs including: the Patriot ATM warhead, the AMRAAM missile warhead, the CATFAE mine clearing projectile, and armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot (APFSDS) projectiles. I learned a tremendous amount of information about very high speed impacts and supersonic aerodynamics. My Masters research thesis at Iowa State was a continuation of work started at Chamberlain on unsteady spin rates of APFSDS projectiles in supersonic flow. I utilized a Mach 4 supersonic wind tunnel for empirical studies. After graduate school I joined the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group working on the high speed civil transport, the next generation Concorde, designed to fly 300 passengers at Mach 2.9. I worked in the low speed, high lift aerodynamic group designing and analyzing wing slats, flaps and vortex fences. I also worked in the 737 and 757 aerodynamic sales and production support group. In that role I was fortunate to have been assigned to a project commissioned to safely fly the first commercial airliner into the world's highest operating airport in Bangda, China. I flew in the jump seat of a 757 as we approached the 14,219 ft. altitude airport situated in a valley between 20,000 ft peaks. I made the switch from airplanes to golf in 1994. I started out at Maxfli Golf testing golf balls in South Carolina and then I joined Callaway golf as one of the first members of the R&D group assigned to make the world's best golf ball. Over the next 13 years I progressed from being the Testing Engineer, to leading R&D, to being the Vice President of the Golf Ball business category. I am now the VP of Innovation / AI at Cobra PUMA Golf and my team is responsible for innovating constructions, material applications, aerodynamics, and player experiences of Cobra Golf clubs from drivers through putters that deliver better performance, improved feel or whatever is missing in the golfer's experience. Our company internal motto is to make “cool stuff that works”.

Cobra LTDx Drivers Cobra LTDx Driver The LTDx driver lineup consists of three models, the LTDx, LTDx LS, and LTDx MAX. Each model in the lineup hosts unique features and performance benefits for a different range of golfers. The LTDx driver is the "built for all golfers model". Its unique design features the perfect balance of front and back weighting, making it playable for all golfers that want the ultimate combination of low spin and stability. The LTDx LS or "Low Spin" driver is designed for Tour players and better amateurs seeking low spin, fast speed and workability. A traditional aerodynamic shape features forward-biased heel and toe adjustable weighting, and a back weight for added forgiveness. The LTDx MAX driver is built for golfers that struggle with slicing the ball. It shares the Xtreme distance and forgiveness of the standard LTDx model with added heel weighting to provide draw bias for those that need it. The LTDx MAX driver is also offered in a women's model and highlights the same features. Cobra LTDx LS Fairway A Cobra Fairway for You Similar to the driver offerings, the LTDx Fairways are offered in LTDx, LTDx LS and the LTDx MAX. The determining factors of which model is best for your game are identical to the driver lineup. However, there are features in the fairways that make them unique. The MAX and LS models feature adjustable weighting that can help golfers fine tune shot shape bias. The LTDx MAX allows an adjustable Draw bias while the LS allows an adjustable draw or fade bias. The standard LTDx has a fixed back weight that promotes higher ball flight. Like previous Cobra fairway lineups, the LTDx lineup features progressive rails that help improve turf interactions on steeper swings. One of the more prominent features that benefits golfers of all levels is the H.O.T (Highly Optimized Topology) Face Technology. H.O.T utilizes A.I to design 15 HOT zones to increase ball speed and smash factor across the face. Cobra LTDx Hybrid - Women's Standard and ONE LENGTH LTDx Hybrids Rounding out the woods family is the LTDx Hybrid (men's and women's). The LTDx Hybrid is designed for pure distance, high launch, and straight ball flights. This hybrid is truly built for golfers of all skill levels. Like the fairway woods, the LTDx hybrid also features H.O.T. face technology along with the Baffler Rail system. This rail system is slightly different in that it helps promote better turf interactions in tight lies, thick rough, and even bunkers. The LTDx Hybrids are also available in the One Length for golfers who have adapted the One Length system. Cobra LTDx Irons Cobra took the design of the LTDx irons to the next level and incorporated a multi-layer PWR-COR™ weighting system in its construction. The PWR-COR weighting system lowers CG, and promotes maximum flexion of the body, sole and face for peak ball speed and distance. The LTDx irons fit the category of game improvement for those higher handicap players. Occasionally you will see a lower handicap play a LTDx long iron as a utility because of the stronger lofting and explosiveness off the face. The LTDx irons also have a One Length option available.
