The discussion also touches on current head coach Matt Rhule's commitment to student-athlete success, mirroring the philosophies of his predecessors. Hatchell expresses excitement about Ndamukong Suh's impending induction, further enriching Nebraska's legacy. On this episode of Monday Night Therapy, host Minnie Hunt is joined by Jarek Shearer from Corn Nation to discuss Nebraska baseball's postseason journey—a rollercoaster that, while ending in a 17-1 loss to Oklahoma, still hints at a brighter future. Despite the rough exit, Nebraska's Big Ten Championship win and regional berth marked a clear upward trend. Jarek explains the loss came down to early defensive miscues and a thinned-out pitching staff, but even in defeat, the Huskers showed resilience and flashes of potential. Injuries sidelined key starters like Robbie Bolin and Max Butenbach, but their absence opened the door for younger talent to gain invaluable experience. Nebraska's lone regional win and season-long grit suggest the program is closer than ever to breaking through on the national stage—after all, one win away from a title game is still progress. With the addition of West Coast powerhouses like UCLA and Oregon to the Big Ten, competition is heating up—and Nebraska's ready to rise with it. Off the field, Jarek shared that he's expecting twins, a sure sign that great things are on the horizon. With momentum building, a revitalized roster, and just a bit of luck, Husker baseball could soon be a force to reckon with.
In the final 2025 episode of Husker Heat, the host recapped an unforgettable season for Nebraska softball, fresh off a road trip to Knoxville for the Super Regional. Nebraska narrowly missed advancing, losing two close games to Tennessee after an opening win. Jordy Bahl pitched all 21 innings and continued to prove she's among the nation's elite. The Huskers finished 43–15 overall, 17–5 in the Big Ten, and ranked in the top 20 nationally across all major polls. They also smashed numerous school records—including team batting average (.356), home runs (107), slugging percentage (.648), and OPS (1.086). Jordy Bahl hit .475 and set a program record with 23 home runs. Looking to 2026, the team returns most starters, including an elite infield and outfield core. Key roster losses include Ava Bredwell and Abby Squire. The main holes to address are catcher and backup pitching. Meanwhile, Nebraska baseball surged late, winning the Big Ten Tournament and advancing to the Chapel Hill Regional. The show also featured humorous moments, fan banter, and deep appreciation for Jordy Bahl's leadership both on and off the field. As the episode closed, the hosts looked ahead to continuing their podcast journey—with hopes of hosting a regional in front of packed home crowds next season. Additionally, one of our baseball beat guys, Aaron, will join us to talk about the men's 2nd straight B1G tourney victory & where they're headed next.
This episode of Husker Heat covered Nebraska softball's journey to the Baton Rouge regional, their recent Big Ten Tournament performance, and the challenges ahead. Host Andy Ketterson, joined by his daughter Miley—who just got engaged—discussed Nebraska's strong season (39–13), including their dominant win over Penn State and a tough loss to UCLA. The team, led by ace pitcher Jordy Bahl, faces a double-elimination regional with LSU, UConn, and Southeast Louisiana. The discussion emphasized Nebraska's reliance on Bahl, concerns about backup pitching depth, and strategic decisions coach Rhonda Revelle must make. The hosts recapped the selection show experience, praising the transparency of the committee and comparing it favorably to the College Football Playoff's chaotic history. He also analyzed RPI data, quadrant records, and strength of schedule to show Nebraska's fair placement. Off the field, the show featured humor, food talk, and shoutouts to standout players like Hannah Camenzind. The episode wrapped with travel plans, Baton Rouge dining recommendations, and friendly banter. With postseason hopes hinging on smart rotation and timely hitting, Nebraska looks to break a streak and advance beyond regionals for the first time in years. GBR—and maybe GEAUX Big Red this time.
In this episode of the Corn Nation's Monday Night Therapy podcast, host Minnie Hunt interviews Bob Davis, a former strength and conditioning coach with Nebraska during the 1980s under Boyd Epley, the legendary pioneer of Husker Power. Davis shares insights into the foundational role Nebraska's strength and nutrition programs played in the Cornhuskers' dominance, emphasizing how walk-ons and farm kids pushed blue-chip recruits by outworking them. He discusses innovations like performance testing, customized nutrition cards, and year-round training, including offseason programs that prepared players physically and mentally. Davis also reflects on the evolution of training—comparing old-school techniques to today's tech-enhanced systems—and emphasizes fundamentals, balance, proper mechanics, and injury prevention. He highlights the importance of developing athletes' understanding of movement, hydration, and nutrition. Creatine use, the relevance of bench press, and high-tech versus practical basics are all explored. Davis underscores that most injuries result from fatigue and poor mechanics, not contact. He calls for transparency in athletic performance reporting to inspire fans and hold players accountable. Now running “Strength of America” and “Body by Bob's,” he continues to educate athletes of all ages on how to train smart, eat right, and stay healthy for life. The episode closes with calls for community engagement and the hope of returning Nebraska to its physical dominance.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers took care of business against Maryland and now prepare to begin what is hopefully a three-game road in the Big Ten Softball Tournament this Thursday morning. Who is on fire at the plate? Are the lineups set? And most importantly, what will the starting pitching look like or is there really just one choice?

This is a very special edition of Monday Night Therapy hosted by Minnie Hunt, featuring the highly anticipated return of Fred Sacco for Round 2 of his Corn Nation debut! After some technical issues during his first appearance, Fred is back, and we're excited to dive deep into the exciting happenings surrounding Nebraska Huskers football. This past Saturday, Nebraska hosted the thrilling Husker Games in Lincoln, showcasing a vibrant array of events that highlighted the team's talent and camaraderie. One of the standout moments came when our QB1, Dylan Raiola, wowed the crowd by swooshing a football through a basketball net from the 50-yard line to the end zone—a jaw-dropping feat that showcased his incredible arm strength. In addition to Raiola's impressive throw, we saw a variety of competitions, including roping contests, a tractor pull, a weight-lifting contest, and a speed contest, all packed with excitement and showcasing the prowess of our athletes. We'll also discuss the latest news on Ty Robinson, who has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, along with updates on all our Huskers who were drafted or signed as undrafted free agents (UDFAs) this weekend. Don't miss this action-packed episode with lots to talk about!
A 3-game set at Washington is next on the menu for the Huskers as they make a last charge at hosting a regional. Do they have a sweep in them? This week, Husker Heat dives into the first trip to a former Pac-12 park. That's right, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will take on Washington in beautiful Husky Stadium overlooking Lake Washington. We'll also talk about the split with Indiana and the utter meltdown of the coach in the opener. We'll dive into where things sit rankings and RPI-wise and I'm pretty sure Mylie & I will find something to bicker about again.
The Five Heart Podcast on Corn Nation, which streams live on YouTube, Facebook, and X with your hosts Greg and Minnie, once again welcomes our lively chat “The Holgormaniacs:”. We're delving into an essential topic for Nebraska football fans: the insights from Defensive Coordinator John Butler's recent press conference. In this episode, we'll discuss Butler's view on the “lost art of tackling” and how Nebraska's commitment to physical practices sets the Cornhuskers apart from the rest of the Big Ten. Butler emphasized that tackling in the secondary is a critical trait that will be prioritized during spring practices. He outlined three key skills every defender needs: the ability to cover, tackle, and play the ball. With player safety being a significant concern within the last decade, Butler has made it clear that instilling physicality while maintaining safety is a delicate balance. “You have to practice tackling bodies,” Butler states, emphasizing the need for real-time practice to improve this vital skill. Don't miss out on this informative discussion about tackling techniques, player development, and how Coach Matt Rhule's focus on physicality is laying the groundwork for a successful season. We will cover these topics as well as Transfer Portal news. Tune in to discuss all things Nebraska football and support our Cornhusker team. As always, GBR! ******* Editor's Note: The concept of this episode was created before Thursday's Husker press conferences. So the show you get is about more than just tackling. We hope you enjoy it. I know I had a great time on the show. GBR!
The Huskers travel to 1st-place (3-way tie) Northwestern with a huge chance to close the gap on the top of the standings. Oh, and play Creighton as well. The Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to Evanston, IL, this weekend for a conference tilt with perennial Big 10 power, Northwestern. This is their biggest chance to try and jump up with the current big 3 in the B1G whom they trail by 2 games in standings. We'll also chat some about Wednesday night's game with Creighton, but if we're honest, losing that game would be a disaster - we'll tell you why. SO jump in tonight & participate by adding your comments!
The Nebraska Cornhuskers hope to keep moving up in the standings against the Boilermakers, and Mylie and I will talk about what to expect from them and discuss current and developing storylines as well as how Nebraska stands in pursuit of an NCAA tourney birth. Also, Jordy Bahl notched her 2nd Big 10 Pitcher of the Week Award for the 2025 season, so we'll delve into that as well. It's Tuesday evening which means Husker Heat, your only Nebraska Cornhuskers softball show, is almost here! There's much to unpack after a windy, high-scoring weekend in Columbus and Mylie and I will review what went right and wrong as the hitters went wild and Nebraska finished 1-2. We will also preview the Minnesota Gophers who gave the Huskers some fits last year, but appear maybe not quite as strong in '25. There are some storylines developing, such as some changes in the batting order and perhaps another which needs to be made?
In this week's episode of Monday Night Therapy with Minnie Hunt, the conversation buzzed with excitement and optimism following the inclusion of guests Jarek Shrearer and Aaron Rastovski. Jarek highlighted the upcoming matchup for the women's basketball team, who are set to face LSU in the Big Ten Tournament. The anticipation for this critical game added an extra layer of excitement to the discussion. Aaron, bringing his insights from the diamond, addressed the pressing need for improvement in the baseball team's offensive performance. He lamented the current struggles at the plate, emphasizing the importance of securing hitters who can drive in runs and contribute to the scoreboard. As the discussion transitioned to football, partygoers engaged in talk about the wide receiver room and its promising future. Although this group contains a significant number of young talents, it boasts some star potential, with Jacorey Barney returning for his second year, as well as the addition of transfer Nyzaih Hunter from Cal and senior transfer Dane Key from Kentucky. Coach Shorts, the wide receivers coach, and Coach Holgorsen, the offensive coordinator, have a track record of building formidable offenses, leaving fans eager to see how they will develop this promising roster next season. Overall, the lively discussions painted an optimistic picture for Nebraska athletics, including Track and Field and Bowling as well. As always, Go Big Red!

If you have watched a Corn Nation video in the past couple of years, chances are you have heard the name Fred Sacco. Fred joins Minnie on Monday Night Therapy to talk about his experience growing up and living in Nebraska. As a Nebraska alum during the birth of the Golden Era in Nebraska Football he will share how electrifying plays by Tommie Frazier led the Cornhuskers to back-to-back national championships in the ‘90's, with the legendary Tom Osborne as head coach. As the dynasty continued with Eric Crouch in the 2000's, he led Nebraska to another championship appearance and was awarded the Heisman Trophy in 2001. Crouch's impact on the program solidified Nebraska's place as a national power. The years after Crouch saw a succession of head coaches and quarterbacks. While success was mixed, the program continued to find ways to win. From head coaches Bo Pellini to Mike Riley, Nebraska fans needed a change, with the return of the ‘95-'97 champion QB Scott Frost who fans dubbed ‘Golden Boy' to begin a new chapter as head coach. The high hopes they had for Nebraska to return to national prominence were met with inconsistencies at the play caller position with Adrian Martinez. Despite the ups and downs, Frost attracted top recruits back to the program. After HCSF, Matt Rhule, a coach known for his program-building success, takes the reins in Lincoln. Rhules arrival signaled a fresh start and a renewed focus on building a winning culture. However as the landscape of college football is ever changing, Rhule has had to learn and adjust quickly. The first big key towards winning football came in the shape of 5 star recruit Dylan Raiola, Nebraska's quarterback. Dylan has had a full season to learn to navigate the more competitive nature and the high demands of playing at the college level. Will Nebraska football be great again? After Tyson Terry, 4 star DT 2025 football recruit won his 4th straight Nebraska State Wrestling Title and finished his high school career with an undefeated record, it just might be that players with that ultra competitive spirit are exactly what this team needs to give us the edge. Also, Nebraska wrestling will have finished their regular season on Sunday the 23rd as they go into West Lafayette ranked #5 in the NCAA. We will discuss the final dual against Purdue and what the B1G Wrestling Championship in Evanston, Illinois will look like.

On the final Overreaction of the season, Greg and Hoss break down Nebraska's 20-15 win in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl. There were a lot of stories heading into this game and seemingly as many stories coming out of it. Winning the program's first bowl game since 2015 ensures the team's winning season. It sends the sixth-year guys out with a win. And Rahmir Johnson is crowned the game's MVP in front of friends and family in his hometown. The game was very typical Nebraska, a tale of two halves. Nebraska led 13-2 at halftime before taking a 20-2 lead in the third quarter. But Boston College kept clawing and scraping, scoring the game's final thirteen points to make it just a little too interesting. What did Hoss see in this contest? What do we have to build on? What changes need to be made immediately? GBR!

The regular season is over. Nebraska finishes 6-6 after falling to the Iowa Hawkeyes 13-10 on Friday night in Iowa City. From pre-game shenanigans to missed opportunities while the clock was running, all-in-all it was an ugly day in an ugly state surrounded by ugly people. The defense was solid with the exception of the screen pass to Caleb Johnson that was the Hawkeyes' lone touchdown. But it wasn't enough to overcome passes either overthrown or missed and bad special teams play. How did the Hawkeye Hicks treat our beloved Hoss, who attended the game in Iowa City for the second time in a row? The big OVERreaction after Friday was going down the list of people to fire. While we expect some changes to the coaching staff for one reason or another, it should be noted that none of the main players are likely to go anywhere (this assumes Dana Holgorsen's agreeing to stay in Lincoln after this season, which...he should). GBR...always.
This week on the premier reaction podcast/live show out there, the Corn Nation Overreaction, Greg, Hoss, and Jake will break down Nebraska's sixth win of the season, the 44-25 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. The Huskers are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016 and toppled Wiscy for the first time since September 2012. And it happened in Matt Rhule's second year, Dylan Raiola's eleventh game, and Dana Holgorsen's second game. While the two teams traded scores early (we see you and we appreciate you, Heinrich Haarberg), Nebraska never trailed and looked in control the entire game. Emmett Johnson became the Huskers' first 100-yard rusher of the season. Raiola threw for almost 300 yards, and the defense was good enough to beat the Badgers to the Bowl Game (context: Wisconsin is also seeking their sixth win of the season). What did the guys think of the game and how much confidence did yesterday's contest inspire heading to Iowa City next week?
I'm sure you have opinions. We have a lot to talk about after Nebraska is STILL winless against USC following Saturday's 28-20 final. This week on Corn Nation's Overreaction, Hoss and Greg are going to talk about running backs Emmett Johnson and Dante Dowdell and how the run game was milk-cartoned late in the game. The guys also discuss the emergence of Nate Boerkircher, and how Heinrich Haarberg could be a star in this offense. What was the Dana Holgorsen Effect? How did the offense look overall, and where are areas of improvement? The other side of the ball did not look good. After the Ceyair Wright pick-six, the Huskers struggled with consistency and Tony White could not counter the Lincoln Riley offense. I'll be honest - after the game I was still pretty optimistic, and somehow we opened up as a 1.5-point favorite against Wisconsin. Where's our sixth win? Is it this coming Saturday against the Badgers? It is against the Hawkeyes on Black Friday? What does the immediate future of Husker football look like?
This week was a quasi-special episode because we didn't have a game to break down, but that doesn't mean we didn't have news. On the Corn Nation Overreaction this week, Greg, Hoss, and Jake discuss the additions made to the coaching staff last week as Dana Holgorsen and Phil Snow arrived in Lincoln. Snow is a defensive guru who has been coaching football for 47 years. He will provide Tony White with another seasoned perspective to get the Blackshirts, who are still very good - in the top 25 in most defensive categories, performing at a level they were at last year. Holgorsen comes to Nebraska with objective success at the collegiate level, being either Offensive Coordinator or Head Coach at schools with prolific offenses in the last 15 years. Will he be able to assist OC Marcus Satterfield in strategic game planning to result in that elusive sixth win and subsequent bowl eligibility? Our game predictions are at the end, and as our departed brother Brian Towle would say, “win the damn game.”
This week on the Overreaction show, Greg, Hoss and Jake will discuss the UCLA loss yesterday 27-20. What went right and wrong? How could the Huskers trail the entire game against a team they were favored to beat? Hoss, has some interesting praise to hand out but not to anyone who wears scarlet and cream. Yes, injuries have began to pile up for the Huskers but does that mean that we are destined for another bowl-less season? We'll have Risers and Fallers, award game balls and since this show will be live, we will take as many of your comments as we can.
This week on the Overreaction show, Hoss and Jake will recap their whirlwind trip to Columbus, OH for the Nebraska/Ohio State game. Greg is here too and the trio will discuss the Huskers' 21-17 loss to the Buckeyes. What went right and wrong offensively? No one is getting a dollar every time “screen pass” is mentioned so you don't have to beat that particular dead horse. How did the defense respond after giving up 56 points to the Hoosiers? Officiating will be discussed, because we can't escape poor officiating. The guys will break down some of Matt Rhule's post game comments and what the performance this past weekend means for this team moving forward. We'll have Risers and Fallers, award game balls, and provide our UCLA predictions.
56-7 I could end the description right there, but Jon says that “150 words or it doesn't get picked up by search engines.” So be prepared for word salad to last another 119 words. Epic, systemic failure. Both teams had a bye week heading into this game. Only one team seemed prepared for the contest. The lack of preparation can not be understated. In his post-game press conference, Matt Rhule said “I didn't see this coming. I thought we were going to play great.” This is, in my opinion, the first crack in the armor of Matt Rhule, who said “it was bad football by us.” He was embarrassed, not in the players, but in the level of football. This will be a turning point for the program under Rhule. We will look back at October 19, 2024 and look at is as a galvanizing moment where the ship was righted and real change started to take place. OR the loss to Indiana on their homecoming will be the beginning of the end for this staff. I hope it's the former. I think it will be. Regardless, Rhule will be given another year and a half to get things right in Lincoln. Jake is already calling this a spicy show, “guaranteed.” Hoss is getting more upset as time goes by and says it's going to be an all-timer, a la Minnesota 2017.
This week on Corn Nation Overreaction, the guys have a plan to endure the bye week. That's right, Greg, Hoss, and Jake bring you the Mid-Season Report Card. The guys pour over each position group, giving in-depth analysis on where we are halfway through the season. What have been some high points? What areas have met expectations from the fans or the coaches? What position groups have fallen short? Who have been the outstanding performers on both sides of the ball? What about the outstanding newcomers? And if you're a YouTube member, you get the episode ahead of the general public. That's worth the price of admission, or membership. We spend a couple minutes at the end of the show to talk about the upcoming Indiana game. So GO BIG RED!
At least, that's what I've been told. Hi, I'm Greg. I am the host of the Corn Nation Overreaction and my DVR stopped recording yesterday's Nebraska-Rutgers game at the fourth quarter two-minute timeout. Nebraska was leading 14-7 at that time. Did they hold on to win? Well, you may be happy to know that the Cornhuskers have won their fifth game of the season, and it only took six games. (Insert appropriate response here.) Tonight on the Overreaction show, I will be joined by Hoss and Jake to discuss all things from the Rutgers game. Notably, that defense that seemed to will the way to the win. It's the only FBS defense that has not given up a rushing touchdown this season (although I know that by talking about it, bad things are sure to happen after this). But it's not just that stat. We have other receipts. Offensively, the running game plan seemed to be a hindrance and it took away from some truly special players utilizing their speed at the perimeter. But the Huskers found a way to A) win and 2) not lose! I'm happy. Are you happy? GBR!
This week on Corn Nation's Overreaction Show, Greg and Hoss are joined by Every Game Jake (formerly Big Game Jake) to discuss the first Big Ten Conference win of the season, a 28-10 win at Purdue. Bolstered by a 21-point fourth quarter that included a John Bullock pick-six, the Huskers turned a 0-0 halftime score into a one-sided contest. But make no mistake about it, there is work to be done and improvements to make. Greg, Hoss, and Jake will break down the game, from the abysmal first half to the redemptive second half. Penalties didn't cost Nebraska the game this week, but that first half was rife with them, and that needs to be addressed.
This week on CN Overreaction, Greg and Hoss have the unenviable task of discussing the 31-24 overtime loss to Illinois this past Friday night. What did Illinois do right? What did Nebraska do wrong? Look, this isn't a finger-pointing situation. But there are clearly some aspects of the old ball game that need to be addressed and corrected. The running game needs to be adjusted. It needs to be flowered up. It's too direct. We need counters and traps, pulling guards and pre-snap motion. We do blame the officiating just a little bit. But it's more of a schematic issue. The good news, the silver lining if you will, is that we have confidence in Matt Rhule and Company to right the ship. As Hoss says towards the end of the show, “we are light years ahead of where we were a year ago.” Have faith, Husker Nation, run the damn ball, and win the damn game.
Huskers Happy Hour is the new weekly Corn Nation podcast where we talk about the weekly stories, games, numbers and anything else we feel like talking about for an hour or so each Tuesday starting at 8PM. Much like at the local tavern, we'll yak about what's happening with the Huskers and solve all their problems for them…hell, maybe solve a few world's in general while we're at it. And we're 100% looking for audience participation, so please take advantage and jump into the comments on the right on YouTube Live. Huskers Happy Hour - Grab your drink of choice be it a bottle of water (or Propel!) or something stronger and belly up for a good time.
This week on Con Nation Overreaction, Greg and Hoss discuss this unusual situation in which Nebraska fans find themselves...the fourth quarter is boring and we don't know that to do. Let me be clear on this - we echo HC Matt Rhule's position that a boring fourth quarter is in fact good. The more guys we are able to get into the game in those situations is good. We don't need to be Notre Dame scoring 66 points against a clearly over-matched opponent. We need our young guys to get experience. And that's what happened Saturday night when the Huskers welcomed FCS University of Northern Iowa to Memorial Stadium. On the way to a 34-3 victory, Matt Rhule and Co. clearly were not worried about style points. The defense, while giving up some long drives, managed to keep the Panthers out of the end zone, even in the fourth quarter, a point of pride for the upperclassmen, as by that point it was largely second- and third-string players in. But the outcome was the same. It's a short week as the Huskers prepare for their Big Ten opening contest and the 22-ranked Nebraska squad hosts #24 Illinois on Friday night. Enjoy this breakdown of the UNI game and we'll see you next weekend. GBR!

Well, we are back live less than twenty-four hours after the conclusion of an exciting 28-10 Nebraska win over the Colorado Buffaloes. Greg, Hoss, and Big Game Jake will discuss Greg's trip to Lincoln and dining with Hoss. These two friends, fellow Husker fans, and longtime broadcast buddies finally met in real life for the very first time. And to top it all off, the Huskers handled the team from Boulder. While the second half was, dare we say, a bit of a dud, the first half was such that it built a 28-0 lead and the defense stood on business in the second half to five the Huskers a 2-0 record and propel the team into the Top 25. But there were some really remarkable moments offensively and defensively in the contest. Greg's first time stepping into Memorial Stadium and it could not have been written any better.

Well, the Huskers are 1-0. It's not much, except an improvement over several years of losing the first game of the season. And on top of that, 107 Huskers saw some sort of action in the 40-7 win over the University of Texas - El Paso. Dylan Raiola looked as advertised, as he went oan to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. And the targets he found in the field, Isaiah Neyor, Jahmal Banks, and the rest, more than produced. Plus, Dante Dowdell, Emmett Johnson, Rahmir Johnson, and Gabe Ervin Jr all found success running the ball. The defense was crisp, allowing just 205 yards. Greg and Hoss break down the win, discuss the team's depth, and take a little look at this weekend's battle against Colorado.
This week on the Corn Nation Overreaction show, which will be LIVE, we get to know Hoss' friend Jake. Apparently Jake really wanted to be on the show. Don't get ideas...this is still a vehicle to launch Hoss to the next level of football analysis so that he eventually gets a job with the Big Ten Network. By that I mean...we don't usually have guests. But we'll get to know Jake and learn about his Husker fandom and what e's been drinking to survive the last twenty years of Nebraska football. As we turn our attention to the 2024 season, we will look at realistic expectations for Dylan Raiola as well as how we think the Blackshirts will fair in the second year of Tony White's defense. Will Nebraska have a 1,000-yard rusher? Will they have a 1,000-yard receiver? Could they have both? How about one BOLD prediction for the upcoming year? And last but not least, we'll hear Hoss and Jake's game predictions for every game of the season.
This week on Corn Nation Overreaction Revisited, Greg and Hoss are joined by Corn Nation's very own Nate McHugh, by special request from Mister X's and O's himself. The trio discuss the 2023 Nebraska-Iowa game, which the Hawkeyes won 13-10 with a walk-off field goal from the backup kicker. Nate went the extra mile and re-watched the game via the Big Ten in 60 on YouTube, so his rage was fresh, which is the opposite we tried to achieve with this series. Why is it that our offense couldn't get going? Was it simply that they were gassed? Or were there deeper underlying reasons? In this war of attrition, one team had to wind up on the short end of the stick, and for the seventh time in eight years, that team was Nebraska. BUT...there's a lot of optimism from this crew that different days are ahead. Listen/watch for all the good times (and the bad). And GBR!
1982 saw the rise of Rocky's new nemesis - Clubber Lang. Starting with the Eye of the Tiger, Rocky III showed is was different than the slower and longer Rocky's 1 & II by putting its foot on the gas from the start. Join tonight's show as we relive that wild ride. The UA logo and theme play, the ending of Rocky II rolls, Eye of the Tiger fires us up as a montage of Rocky's first 6 title defenses rolls, Rocky fights Hulk Hogan, a new challenger gently introduces himself (Hey, woman! Hey, woman!), the new challenger beats the brakes off Rocky, Apollo becomes Rocky's manager and Rocky beats the piss out of Clubber in the rematch. Fade to man hugs and leave the theater an hour and a half later. There was Rocky III in two sentences, one long. Join us at 8PM CST this evening for what's sure to be a highly entertaining show as we review a Rocky which was loaded with the most action to date and set a new standard for unintentional comedy thanks to Mr. T, Paulie and Stallone himself. Did you know Mr. T's mom left the theater in the middle of the original screening because she hated what his character said to Adrian? We talk about that and other fun facts as well.
Blue Chips featured Nick Nolte, fantastic as a college hoops coach, and young Shaq & Penny Hardaway as recruits, but in 2024 is the booster Happy played by the late JT Walsh the real hero? Join us for Blue Chips, a college basketball movie from 1994 starring Nick Nolte, Shaq O'Neal, Penny Hardaway, Ed O'Neill, Alfre Woodard, Bob Cousy, Mary McDonnell, JT Walsh, Bob Cousy, Matt Nover, Marques Johnson, Robert Wuhl, Bobby, Knight, Rick Pitino, George Raveling, Larry Bird, Dick Vitale… You get the point. Maybe like me, this one grew on you when you realized the movie wasn't about the big game. In 1994, everyone was still taught to believe a player who wanted anything more than a scholarship was a greedy leech with no love for the game…and we just never really asked where all the money did go. This movie did help that conversation along, but it also had some fantastic performances - even by non-actors - some really funny scenes and, of course, probably the best movie basketball playing ever.
Who can forget Walter Matthau taking a paid position as the manager of a gaggle of foul-mouthed losers whom the league didn't want? Tanner, Engleberg, Kelly Leak and Amanda taught many of us some prime and proper cursing in the bicentennial year which we still employ to this day. And some more we definitely don't. And remember - Buttermaker's not dead, he's just drunk.
I know, I know. This isn't a fun headline. It wasn't a fun game. Well, it certainly started fun. Going up 14-0 after the first quarter, only to be outscored 24-3 the rest of the game. Hoss and Greg discuss the game and grass fields, Braelon Allen going to the NFL, Jaylen Lloyd, turnovers, and more. I'd like this description to be better but this isn't my day and I have to get this episode out in a few minutes.
This week on Overreaction Revisited, Hoss and Greg return to that fateful day, November 11, when the Maryland Terrapins invaded Memorial Stadium and left with a 13-10 win. It may have been the most devastating loss of the season. Nothing, absolutely nothing, went well for the Huskers. Three quarterbacks managed a measly 86 yards while throwing a combined four interceptions. Add in a lost fumble and it was not a good day for the offense. Hell, two punts went further than ten receptions. Javin Wright put on a performance, with eight tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. But as we said a lot during 2023, the defense deserved better. Thing get better. I mean, not in 2023, but 2024 sure looks promising. GBR...always.
What are ya? St-st-st-STOOPID? NCAA 2025 is in mid-release, so tonight we'll examine the timeless classic of Bobby Boucher and friends playin' that foosball. Sorry for the slightly late notice, but here it is anyway! Join me at 8pm CST tonight for All the Right Movies and a review of The Waterboy which was a massive hit for Adam Sandler and company. Reviled by critics and beloved by audiences, The Waterboy threw everything against the wall and most of it stuck leaving audiences with huge smiles. The characters ranged from the crazy weird like Farmer Fran and Colonel Sanders to real life sports figures such as Bill Cowher, Jimmy Johnson, Dan Patrick, Dan Fouts and Brent Musberger.
