Clemson's 34-21home loss to Syracuse shocked the college football world. They were the inferior team from Syracuse's first drive onward. There are several reasons why I dive into during today's podcast, and a prime question that needs asked.Should Dabo Swinney have used the Transfer Portal more? This team has talent, but is not as physically gifted as originally believed. Leslie is joined by Dr. Robert Shapiro, Chairman of Sonecon, an economic advisory firm, and a Senior Fellow of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. The two examine the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) again handing President Trump a bleak set of jobs numbers, just one month after he fired the agency's commissioner over weak employment data. On Friday morning, the BLS reported that nonfarm payroll employment rose by only 22,000 in August. Analysts had forecast that the economy would add 75,000 jobs during the month. According to the agency, gains made in health care were offset by losses in federal government employment, as well as mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction. While July's figures were revised up to 79,000 from 73,000, June's numbers were revised down by 27,000, dropping from 14,000 to minus-13,000. That means this past June marked the first time the labor market shed jobs since late 2020. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate edged up to 4.3 percent from 4.2 percent in August. Leslie and Dr. Shapiro also discuss his latest blog, "The Lies Behind Trump's D.C. Troop Sure." (Link: https://washingtonmonthly.com/2025/08/18/the-lies-behind-trumps-d-c-troop-surge/) In it, Dr. Shapiro breaks down how President Trump's justification for deploying troops in Washington, D.C. on the basis of crime is false, as FBI data show crime rates in the capital have sharply declined and are lower than in many comparable U.S. cities. Instead, Dr. Shapiro details how Trump's actions reflect a partisan strategy and authoritarian impulse to consolidate power and intimidate opposition, rather than any genuine concern for public safety. Another lifeless loss from the Pirates last night has this season turning into Groundhog Day. The Reds left PNC Park with a 7-1 win and a few things from last night annoyed Poni more than usual, capped by David Bednar smiling when he's coming off the mound following a bad outing that allowed the Reds to pile on. The guys feel bad for callers like Chuck in Uniontown, who are seemingly stuck loving this team to no end because of whatever reason. The Pirates are alienating fans with every game.

Mental health care in America has become nothing short of atrocious. Supposed developments in treatment methods and medication remain inaccessible to those who need them most. Countless people seeking treatment are routinely funneled into homelessness and prison while a mental-health epidemic ravages younger generations. It seems obvious that the system is broken, but critics say the tragic truth is that it is actually functioning exactly as intended, providing reliably enormous profits for the entities who now manage mental health care. By taking a step back and examining how and why we developed our health-care system, with mental health care as the worst-case example of a dysfunctional model that has been abandoned by all other developed countries, we can understand our motives and actions, and chart a way out of our mess. Three of my favourite books, minor discrepancies with modern science and insight into a few things I found fascinating
As traditional print media scrambles to find firm ground despite crumbling atrophy - the thing I was still so excited about and hopeful for as a creative was the rapid emergence of unique, fresh, bold and innovative independent publishers. Sure, independent publishers have smaller budgets (if any) and the audiences are certainly a bit more finite. But also, there is far less overhead, the audiences are hyper focused and there is more bandwidth for creative exploration. Unfortunately… the same greed, which has been eradicating traditional publishers is now infecting independent publishers. Zero quality control Abysmal editorial standards (if any) and offensively bad design Yet these publishers are charging premium sponsored rates for features on the cover and inside their magazines. If sponsored content is your business model, and I'm not going to argue in favor or against that, you absolutely need to do better for your advertisers, editorial contributors, as well as potential readers. https://jamespatrick.com/
Nottingham Forest lost 4-3 Newcastle United as a dire first half cost Nuno's team, which conceded four goals in 11 second half minutes. They did fightback after the break but ran out of time as they suffered a blow in their pursuit of a Champions League place. Matt Davies is joined by Emily Anderson and Mark Sutherns to discuss the game in full.

0:00-28:10 - The Ride with JMV starts on a Monday following another terrible Colts loss. This one eliminates Indianapolis from playoff contention as the Giants earned their first home win of the season, scoring a season-high 45 points against the abysmal Colts defense. 28:10-42:08 – JMV continues the Colts conversation, talking about Shane Steichen’s comments today that “not everybody is always going to be on time,” regarding Pat McAfee’s claims that people are showing up late to meetings and missing treatment. 42:08-48:44 – JMV continues his rants about how poorly the Colts performed yesterday and ponders the possible solutions to close out the first hour. 48:44-1:14:45 – JMV starts the second hour talking about everything that went down at MetLife Stadium yesterday. At this point, Colts fans expect this to happen. They expect what happened in 2021 and 2022 to take place. John opens the phone lines to hear how the general public feels regarding this team. 1:14:45-1:25:12 – JMV continues with open phone lines, airing grievances about this Colts team. Nothing will change as long as Chris Ballard remains in charge. Will Irsay actually move on from Ballard this time around? 1:25:13-1:33:23 – JMV explains that these offensive “gurus” like Steichen, Zac Taylor, Ben Johnson and others are only as good as those around them. He teams up with the listeners to analyze what happened and what needs to happen moving forward. 1:56:25-2:10:01 – JMV stays on the phone lines talking to the public about the 2024 Indianapolis Colts. 2:10:01-2:15:33 - JMV closes the show. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: 4:05pm- Congresswoman Elise Stefanik—U.S. Representative for New York's 21st Congressional District & House Republican Conference Chair—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to react to Kamala Harris and the far-left baselessly comparing Donald Trump to authoritarians. Rep. Stefanik notes that the claims are obviously ridiculous and false, and the strategy illustrates that Democrats don't have policy ideas that are resonating with Americans. 4:20pm- Rich takes calls from listeners—what are you expecting on November 5th? 4:25pm- On Friday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it had filed a lawsuit against the Virginia State Board of Elections for removing non-citizens from their voting registration list. In August, Governor Glenn Younkin signed an executive order which was designed to “cancel the registrations of non-citizens who have registered to vote in a local, state, or federal election by falsely claiming that they are a citizen, including the forging of documentation or any other means of improper registration.” Why is the Biden Administration fighting Virginia over its prevention of non-citizens from voting in the 2024 election? 4:40pm- Dr. Victoria Coates—Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show and reacts to Auschwitz survivor Jerry Wartski demanding that Kamala Harris apologize for outlandishly calling Donald Trump a “fascist.” Dr. Coates is the author of the upcoming book: “The Battle for the Jewish State: How Israel—and America—Can Win” which features a forward from Senator Ted Cruz.
