This week, we are diving deep into one of the most terrifying modern hauntings in American history: The Black Hope Curse. Imagine moving into your dream suburban home in Texas, only to realize the entire subdivision was built directly on top of a forgotten, historic cemetery. From unexplainable shadow figures and violent poltergeist activity to a bizarre string of sudden, tragic deaths among neighbors, this case proves that some graves refuse to stay quiet. Grab a drink and buckle up, because this one gets dark.Today's Sponsors:EarnIn: Stop waiting two weeks for a paycheck. Everyone is talking about agentic commerce. DaVinci and OpenAI just shipped it. Sandy Carter sits down with Diaz Nesamoney to unpack what the news means for marketers who are still chasing clicks while the storefront moves into ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. Diaz breaks down the brand control crisis, the content architecture overhaul every CMO needs this quarter, and the zero-party intent data hiding inside conversational commerce. Sandy closes with four lessons every marketing leader needs from the DaVinci Commerce announcement, including why brand control is now a technical problem, why OpenClaw changes the path to purchase, and why optimizing for AI agents matters more than optimizing for audiences. If you lead marketing at an enterprise and you are still running agentic commerce as a pilot, this episode is your wake-up call.

Remember a few weeks ago when Eli popped over to the USA to see family? Well, not only did he bring back a few snacks and treats (as sampled in an earlier episode), but he recorded a few audio packages from his time away. So whether Paul likes it or not (and he doesn't like it), this week's episode will be built on the bones of the Silverman family's adventures. Eli's playing clips of what he got up to in Florida and when he has his unruly clan went on a cruise ship adventure… with a free bar! This can only mean Paul is in for a rough, raucous listen… and he will be very honest about his opinions of this boozy travelogue! After years of ignoring and maligning Windows, Microsoft has finally woken up and is making some happy noises. Last week, we discussed how Microsoft plans to improve the quality of Windows and that there are already many signs of that work in various security features and new OneDrive Folder Backup changes - plus those two new direct reports to Nadella. Then, Microsoft announced its Windows Baseline Security Mode and User Transparency and Consent initiatives with questions about the timing. And now, Microsoft just explained Windows 11 version 26H1, and it's not like 24H2 at all despite being tied to Snapdragon X2 silicon.Something happened ... and that something is tied to 26H1 26H1: Only for Snapdragon X2, a "scoped release," based on a "different core" from 24H2 and 25H2 You cannot upgrade 24H2 or 25H2 to 26H1 You cannot upgrade 26H1 to 26H2 (!) - instead, those on 26H1 "will have a path to update in a future Windows release." - Is that future Windows release Windows 12? Probably 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1 will all have the same user-facing features, this has been the case with all support Windows (11) versions for 2+ years (Remember, this is not what happened with 24H2. Shipped early on Snapdragon X1, but was made available to all Windows 11 PCs later that year) So why is this happening now? In this episode of Business Brain, Shannon Jean and Dave Hamilton break down why perfection is the enemy of shipped—and why waiting for “ready” often means never launching at all. They explore the power of defining a clear Minimum Viable Product, getting comfortable with imperfection, and building momentum through action instead of endless refinement. With practical guidance and a real-time example, they show how progress consistently beats polish when building a business. The conversation also tackles the mental game of shipping, especially when criticism comes into play. Shannon and Dave unpack how to weigh useful feedback, ignore trolls, and stop giving emotional energy to noise that doesn't matter. By reframing criticism and staying focused on forward motion, entrepreneurs can protect their mindset, ship more confidently, and continue building a Charmed Life. 00:00:00 Business Brain – The Entrepreneurs' Podcast #722 for Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 January 28th: National Blueberry Pancake Day 00:02:41 Perfect is the enemy of SHIPPED It's good to have backup plans It's good to get used to not being great 100% of the time Define your Minimum Viable Product 00:09:16 A real-time example! Send us a textWelcome to another unfiltered Members Only episode where Trent and Aaron spiral into storytime chaos—ripping into everything from the cult of military influencers to the sacred tradition of roasting yourself in the team room. Aaron drops the mic with a jailhouse tale involving littering (yes, really), an angry Ohio cop, and a court date just days before shipping to Lackland. They torch the idea of stolen valor and the performative milfluencer scene, and Trent calls out the “no true Scotsman” nonsense that infects veteran one-upmanship.Oh, and they both agree: if you're using “retired” to feel better than someone with a med board—get over yourself. This one's packed with spicy opinions, war room gossip, and just enough UFC banter to keep your BMF belt warm.

We challenge contemporary perceptions of Yemen as a "backwater" by revealing the pivotal role of its port city, Mocha, in the making of our modern world. Historian Nancy Um delves into the fascinating history of coffee, from its origins in 15th-century Yemen to its global spread and the economic transformations it spurred. She explores the rich maritime trade routes of the Indian Ocean, highlighting Yemen's centrality as a crossroads for goods, ideas, and people long before European influence. Um discusses the Ottoman Empire's cultivation of coffee in Yemen, the rise and decline of Mocha as a trade hub, and the unique cultural adaptations of coffee consumption within Yemen itself, such as the popular Qishr drink. We also touch upon the broader impact of hot beverages and porcelain on global social and consumption patterns, revealing how these everyday items were once revolutionary technologies. Um shares insights into the ongoing efforts to revive Yemen's coffee industry and offers recommendations for further reading on Yemen's vibrant history. 0:00 Mocha: A Bustling 17th-18th Century Trade Center0:50 Yemen's Monopoly on Coffee2:46 Nancy Um's Interest in Maritime Trade and Yemen3:40 Yemen's Historical Significance Beyond Recent Decades5:51 What Made Mocha a Prime Trade Hub?7:58 Mocha's Rival: Aden8:11 The History of Coffee as a Drink10:01 Debunking Coffee Origin Myths: The Story of Kaldi and the Goats12:20 Coffee as a Hot Brewed Beverage from Yemen12:32 The Evolution of Coffee as a Commodity and Social Habit13:21 Early Suspicion and Prohibitions Against Coffee14:41 The Global Journey of the Coffee Plant15:57 The Dutch and Coffee Cultivation in Java17:22 Yemen's Shifting Coffee Fortunes18:14 The Ottomans and Yemen's Coffee Cultivation19:06 Ottoman Control of the Red Sea Trade20:37 Diversification of Trade Beyond Coffee21:37 European Influence on Mocha's Popularity22:21 Qishr: Yemen's Unique Coffee Husk Drink (aka Cascara)24:19 Efforts to Rebuild Yemen's Coffee Industry26:01 The Red Sea Trade Route's Enduring Importance29:02 The Indian Ocean: A Space of Exchange and Imagination30:51 Reconsidering Land-Based vs. Water-Based Cultural Identities33:20 Nationalizing Watery Metaphors and Icons35:10 Historical Naming Conventions and Cultural Continuities37:39 Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate: Technologies Reshaping Society40:30 The Coffee House and the Enlightenment42:07 The Decline of Mocha as an Economic Hub43:10 Beneficiaries of Mocha's Decline44:58 Challenge of Contradictory Stories in Historical Narratives47:20 Disproving Coffee Plant Smuggling Myths50:27 Misunderstandings About Yemen's History51:34 Book Recommendations on Yemen53:56 Access to Local Historical Documents in Yemen Nancy Um is Associate Director for Research and Knowledge Creation at the Getty Research Institute.
