Our guest today, Kendra Kincade, wears several hats, but she is most recognized as a celebrated Canadian Air Traffic Controller and Founder/Chair at Elevate Aviation. Kendra's introduction to aviation came later in life at age 24. She was a single mother of four with no aviation background at the time. At age 13, Kendra ran away from home and eventually settled in a foster home. She got married at age 18 and started growing her family. When Kendra found herself going through a divorce, hope seemed so fragile. Her mentor stepped in and introduced Kendra to the world of Air Traffic. This introduction led Kendra to find her passion in life.In my conversation with Kendra, she opens up about her childhood, marriage, motherhood, and divorce while pursuing a career in aviation. She also shares how by getting out of her comfort zone to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, she discovered new opportunities to empower women with similar backgrounds and help them find their place in the industry.

The Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) is held annually in conjunction with Aviation Week Network's MRO Americas. Teams representing educational institutions, commercial airlines, repair and manufacturing companies, general aviation and space compete in a wide range of events that will highlight their technical prowess in aviation maintenance to find out who's the best of the best. The competition is hosted by the Aerospace Maintenance Council, a non-profit organization that promotes and supports the aerospace maintenance community. Today, Six & MBP explore some of the rules and the events that go into the AMC and how aspiring mechanics (and some seasoned ones too) should visit the event and if possible, participate in one. Big shoutout to all the teams who participated in this year's AMC event including but not limited to: the all-women team from Elevate Aviation, American Airlines, United; the service members from the US Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and the Royal Canadian Air Force; team members from various other airlines and MROs; and the student teams from various AMT schools across the US!*For all the teams that participated or have participated in previous competitions, please let us know how the competition went, some of the ups and downs, and what you would recommend to anyone who's interested in participating in a future competition!*Would like to learn more about the Aerospace Maintenance competition? Episode 47 is out today with guest Lucy Poirier! Lucy grew up in Langley, BC where her love of aviation was sparked from a young age by her mom and the Canadian Museum of Flight. At the age of 12, Lucy joined 746 Lightning Hawk Royal Canadian Air Cadets and over the next seven years she obtained her glider and private pilot licenses and participated on the International Air Cadet Exchange to fly aircraft in Switzerland. Post-Secondary, Lucy studied business in aviation at the University of the Fraser Valley and enrolled in the Cadet Instructors Cadre branch of the Royal Canadian Air Force to return to the Cadet Program and become a glider flight instructor. While discerning which aviation career path was right for her, Lucy was encouraged by a mentor to apply to NavCanada and become an air traffic controller. Lucy always thought she would be flying and had not previously considered becoming an air traffic controller, but during the application process she discovered this was the career for her. At 19, Lucy became a VFR controller and now works in the Prince George control tower. Lucy also volunteers with Elevate Aviation as the British Columbia Wing mentorship program coordinator. ‘My passion for mentorship is inspired by and dedicated to all the mentors I have had both related to my career in aviation and in life. Without those wonderful people who encouraged and supported me and gave me opportunities to consider and grow, I would not be where I am today. I hope in my mentorship roles now to inspire and prepare the next generation of women in aviation!' Lucy can be contacted through Elevate Aviation by email at lucy@elevateaviation.ca to learn more about mentorship opportunities. Elevate Aviation can be found on their website www.elevateaviation.ca, instagram @elevateaviation, linkedin, and other major social media platforms.

Speaker, philanthropist, air traffic controller, there is no doubt that Global Woman of Vision award winner, Kendra Kincade is a true inspiration, a beautiful reminder to us all that it is possible to intentionally change your life and live your dreams. Overcoming a decidedly challenging early life which left her dejected and disillusioned, a single mother raising 4 children, Kendra discovered quite by accident that the pathway to her own salvation lay in helping others find theirs. She enthusiastically embarked upon her quest to make a difference, fundraising for worthwhile organizations, even climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for a local hospital. Soon, she was heading up her own nonprofit organization, Changing Stories, and choosing her own projects such as the construction of a sports playground in El Salvador. Her longtime career as an Air Traffic Controller opened up more horizons for the aspiring young woman, literally as well as figuratively, when Kendra, recognizing the negligible female presence in the industry, set out to remedy the situation. Now the Founder and Board Chairman of Elevate Aviation, a venture dedicated to uniting and empowering women in aviation, she is passionate about providing opportunities for women of all ages to attain knowledge and training in all its related professions. Kendra Kincade is proof positive that when you direct your energy towards your goals, you can make miracles happen. “You just have to imagine it and go after it.” as she would assure you. “You CAN ‘elevate’ your life.” For more resources and to get in touch with Kendra Kincade: www.elevateaviation.ca Email: info@elevateaviation.ca https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDD_KJ36CQeMyTOd5y7r9QA www.changingstories.ca You can also find them on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook just search @elevateaviation
