Today, we've brought together our Hoffman pre-Process Panel. Hoffman teachers Jason, Marc, Regina, and our host, Drew, share personal and professional insights into how the time leading up to the Hoffman Process solidly prepares you for your week at the Process. Regina offers wisdom on the pattern of perfection and how it doesn't serve you when you come to the Process. Allowing ourselves to be messy in the container of the Process supports the deeper transformation that's possible during the week. Regina calls us to trust the Process, saying, "The moment you commit, it's the opportunity to lean into the edge of Spirit..." Marc talks about the power of choice. Oftentimes, students come to work on something happening in the present. But the work of the Process is to heal the pain of your past, which in turn affects things happening now, because the healing is within you. As Marc shares, at the Process, "You are stepping into your own childhood pain." He goes on to say, "You are choosing that. That is a choice, whether there's resistance, whether you're scared...but you're choosing that on some very, very big level." A compassionate moment comes when Jason shares about the pre-work each student must complete. He mentions how hard it can be to complete the work because often students feel the pain as it is laid out on the page. Jason shares that the "homework is not who you are. It's a story of what happened to you. And the more information you can get into that, the more connections you can make in that exploration of what happened to you and who you had to become, the greater your awareness will be stepping into the work at your Process." In other words, the homework can lay a powerful foundation for your Process week. And, of course, Regina, Marc, and Jason share more insights, suggestions, and wisdom to help support you as you prepare for your week at the Process. We hope you enjoy this conversation about how your pre-Process time is integral to supporting your transformational week at the Process. Our Pre-Process Panel Regina Louise: Regina Louise holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from California Institute of Integral Studies. In addition, she holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performative Arts from the University of California, Riverside. Regina has canvassed the U.S. extensively as a national spokesperson and child advocate, and is excited to be a Hoffman teacher! Read more about Regina here. Listen to Regina share her story on The Hoffman Podcast. Marc Kaplan: Marc's life purpose is to support people in finding and using their authentic voice. In addition to teaching the Hoffman process, Marc is an esteemed music educator, producer, conductor, and coach. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Political Science from The George Washington University. “The Hoffman methodology is the foundation of my spiritual practice. It helped me discover that I have choices, enabling me to step into my dignity and live my life from a place of love.” When Marc first did the Process in 2011, he envisioned being a father, and now he is one. He lives in Westchester County, NY with his wife and two daughters. Listen to Marc, along with Dan Siegel, on the Hoffman Podcast. Jason Beegle: Jason holds a BA in Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and an MA in Religion from the University of Hawaii. As a certified NLP coach and intuitive healer, he brings a warm, heart-centered presence to the work of transformation. Jason first experienced the Hoffman Process in 2017. It was a profound turning point that deepened his connection to spirit, purpose, and inner freedom. He is devoted to helping others reconnect with their true selves through compassion, presence, and spiritual insight. “Teaching the Process fills me with hope. It's a sacred privilege to witness people return to themselves with love, truth, and tenderness.”

This episode's guest is actor, writer, voiceover artist, and unapologetic improv nerd, Roxana Ortega.Roxana is one of those rare artists whose vulnerability, honesty, and humor hit you all at once – and leave a lasting impression. If her voice sounds familiar, it might be because she's voiced everything from the passionate Frida Casagrande on The Casagrandes to characters in Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, and Monsters at Work. She's narrated Pulitzer Prize-winning novels, voiced countless animated characters, and is a master of voice matching (yes, she's dubbed for Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek). In our conversation, Roxana takes us through the unexpected path that led her to acting – from growing up in an academic household where creativity wasn't considered a “real” career, to having a life-changing epiphany while teaching English in Spain. We talk about the internal battle between playing it safe and going after what you truly want—and what it really means to decide to be an artist. We go deep into the power of improv as both a performance tool and a life philosophy, how failure can be a gift, and why community-building and representation matter now more than ever. Roxana shares how she uses her voice – literally and figuratively – to make space for underrepresented stories, and how she's continued to evolve as a writer, performer, and director.Whether you're someone who thrives on stage or someone working up the courage to take the leap, Roxana's journey will remind you that embracing risk, staying curious, and being fiercely yourself is always worth it.Episode Chapters 00:00 – Welcome + Introduction02:00 – Names, Language, and Laughter04:00 – Academic Roots & Artistic Restlessness07:55 – The Epiphany in Spain13:49 – “I Decided to Be an Actor”16:00 – Improv, Joy, and Redefining Failure21:45 – Performing, Directing, and Creating Her Own Work32:00 – Representation, Identity, and Making Space40:00 – The Tapestry of Humanity49:30 – Amazing Race Nerd Out50:50 – Blissful Spinster & Making Art on Your Own Terms54:35 – Final Words of Wisdom55:14 – What's Next for Roxana58:00 – Wrap-Up & Thank YouRoxana's Bio:Roxana Ortega is an American actor, writer, and voiceover artist who is known for voicing the ever-emotional Frida Casagrande on Nickelodeon's Emmy award-winning and Imagen award-winning cartoon The Casagrandes, a spinoff of the acclaimed series The Loud House.On-camera, she recently starred opposite Danny Trejo, Reno Wilson, and a cast of legends including Garrett Morris, Barry Bostwick, and James Hong in the Universal feature Grand-Daddy Day Care. (Conversation recorded on October 22nd, 2024)     The human system as we know it today – which powers our economies, global supply chains, and social contracts – is a fragile network based on innumerable complex components. Yet we rarely stop to recognize its many vulnerabilities, instead taking for granted that it will continue to securely operate indefinitely. But if we take a more careful look, how can we assess the risks of major catastrophic events that could destroy life as we know it?    Today, Nate is joined by Luke Kemp, a researcher whose work is focused on existential risks (or X-risks), which encompass threats of human extinction, societal collapse, and dystopian futures. How can we begin to understand the likelihood and gravity of these ruinous events, and what kinds of responses from people and governments could further undermine social cohesion and resilience? What roles do human biases, hierarchical power structures, and the development of technologies, like artificial intelligence and geoengineering, play in X-risks? How can we collaborate across industries to protect our modern systems through effective risk management strategies? And in what ways do our institutions need to become more inclusive to better democratize decision-making processes, leading to safer futures for humanity?   About Luke Kemp:  Luke is a Research Affiliate at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) and Darwin College at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on understanding the history and future of extreme global risk. Luke has advised the WHO and multiple international institutions, and his work has been covered by media outlets such as the BBC, New York Times, and the New Yorker. He holds both a Doctorate in International Relations and a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with first class honours from the Australian National University (ANU). His first book on the deep history and future of societal collapse (titled Goliath's Curse) will be published with Penguin in June 2025.   Show Notes and More Watch this video episode on YouTube   ---   Support The Institute for the Study of Energy and Our Future Join our Substack newsletter Join our Discord channel and connect with other listeners

Finally, we discuss balancing selection and trans-species polymorphisms, and the implications they have for how we understand human evolution. -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: PER HELGE LARSEN, JERRY MULLER, BERNARDO SEIXAS, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, FILIP FORS CONNOLLY, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, COLIN HOLBROOK, PHIL KAVANAGH, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, FERGAL CUSSEN, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, JOÃO EIRA, TOM HUMMEL, SARDUS FRANCE, DAVID SLOAN WILSON, YACILA DEZA-ARAUJO, ROMAIN ROCH, DIEGO LONDOÑO CORREA, YANICK PUNTER, CHARLOTTE BLEASE, NICOLE BARBARO, ADAM HUNT, PAWEL OSTASZEWSKI, NELLEKE BAK, GUY MADISON, GARY G HELLMANN, SAIMA AFZAL, ADRIAN JAEGGI, PAULO TOLENTINO, JOÃO BARBOSA, JULIAN PRICE, EDWARD HALL, HEDIN BRØNNER, DOUGLAS FRY, FRANCA BORTOLOTTI, GABRIEL PONS CORTÈS, URSULA LITZCKE, SCOTT, ZACHARY FISH, TIM DUFFY, SUNNY SMITH, JON WISMAN, WILLIAM BUCKNER, PAUL-GEORGE ARNAUD, LUKE GLOWACKI, GEORGIOS THEOPHANOUS, CHRIS WILLIAMSON, PETER WOLOSZYN, DAVID WILLIAMS, DIOGO COSTA, ALEX CHAU, AMAURI MARTÍNEZ, CORALIE CHEVALLIER, BANGALORE ATHEISTS, LARRY D. In episode six of the latest season of the Courage My Friends podcast series, co-executive director of Food Secure Canada, Marissa Alexander and executive director of North York Harvest Food Bank, Ryan Noble discuss the alarming outcomes of Toronto's Who's Hungry report, the growing food and poverty crisis in Toronto and across Canada and urgent actions that need to be taken by policy-makers and civil society in averting this ever-worsening crisis. Reflecting on reasons for the record number of food banks visits this year, Noble says: “It's not as if there's been a sudden shock over the last year. What we're seeing is the continued culmination of insufficient supports for people, public and private, to deal with skyrocketing costs of living. .. whether those are employment supports, social assistance supports, settlement supports, to deal with an out of control cost of living, primarily driven by housing, but also by the cost of food and other essentials.” According to Alexander: “I don't think the systems are breaking down. I think the systems are working exactly as they were designed, which is not to support those who are the most marginalized and oppressed… like capitalism, but also the patriarchy, systemic racism and oppression ... So if we're going to make changes to ensuring that those people aren't "falling through the cracks," we have to make sure that those cracks aren't designed for them to fall through.” About today's guest:  Marissa (she/they) is a registered dietitian and co-executive director of Food Secure Canada, who is passionate about anti-racism, food security, and equity. Are you talking to someone who it's nice to be in the group with or are you talking to a prospective client? [08:42] - Nikki shares a couple ways to create curiosity. When it comes to the question of what you do, ask the person first so you can respond with what you do in a way that will help them. [09:11] - Talk about what you do in a way that serves people like this prospective client. [10:37] - You could also say something like, "I provide bookkeeping services. Who do you know that might benefit from what I provide?" [11:07] - You can also say something like, "Is there ever an opportunity I could be a resource or provide value to you?" [11:39] - Create curiosity in the way you answer questions. [12:51] - When networking, have some specific goals and objectives in mind before you go into the room. [13:08] - Nikki talks about the three, two, one of networking. This involves connecting with three new people, deepening a relationship with two people, and inviting one of them to have a conversation outside of the group. [14:01] - Nikki talks about the “strive five", an ideal list of people that you would like to get to know better. Once you have your ideal list, purposely put yourself in situations to deepen rapport with them. Discovering the Assumptions That Control the Way You Think (w/ David Richardson) - Ep. 116

We are all assuming something about the nature of reality. Our core assumptions exist because there isn't definitive proof for any belief system. In this thought-provoking episode, Catherine and her guest, David Richardson, take a deep dive into the core assumptions that shape our beliefs about reality. In his first book Transparent: How to See Through the Powerful Assumptions That Control You, Dave defines the three primary types of assumers: Type I, Type II, and Type III, each with distinct perspectives on the nature of reality. Type I Assumers believe in a materialistic world where only physical matter and energy are considered real and important. This perspective is the foundation for understanding the world through a purely physical lens. Type II Assumers view reality as primarily non-physical, emphasizing beliefs that focus on spiritual or idealistic objectives. This perspective leads to beliefs in spiritual evolution or sociopolitical perfection as driving forces in the universe. Type III Assumers recognize a dual reality where both physical and non-physical aspects coexist, all created by a higher power. This perspective highlights the importance of acknowledging the Creator and creation in shaping one's view of reality. The impact of these core assumptions are vast and explain virtually everything that is going on in our world today, like how extreme progressives are siding with radical Islamists on college campuses. Have you been wondering why that is? If you look at what Islam teaches, it is the opposite of what Progressivism preaches. They are diametrically opposed. Dave explains how such divergent belief systems are finding a kinship on college campuses across the country. Spoiler alert: It has something to do with their underlying assumptions. Dave also shares his critical assumptions test, an invaluable evangelistic tool that helps individuals evaluate a person's core assumptions and their alignment with reality. This test consists of eight questions that prompt someone to reflect on their beliefs about the nature of reality, the origin of knowledge, and the purpose of human existence. By engaging with this test, you can quickly assess what a person believes and see how their core assumptions affirm or deny reality. Guest bio: David Richardson, author of Transparent: How to See Through the Powerful Assumptions That Control You, is the founder of the Assumptions Institute and its Chief Executive Officer. Is the Christian Worldview Actually Leading Kids away from the Faith? (w/ David Richardson) - Ep. 115

Does the concept of worldview have a fatal flaw baked into the premise? Could the Christian worldview possibly be leading kids away from the faith? David Richardson, author of Transparent: How to See Through the Powerful Assumptions That Control You, reveals the shocking origin of this term and challenges the way it is used by almost everyone in our culture. There is an inherent flaw in the term “worldview” that we need to be aware of, and we need to make sure our kids don't fall for it. Those of us who profess a Biblical worldview recognize the underlying concept of absolute truth. However, inherent in the term “worldview” is the idea that the way each individual person views the world is where truth is found. Reality is defined by what we perceive. It is defined by our senses. It is defined by the worldview glasses we choose to put on. So, in other words, reality is defined by our worldview and our worldview is what we choose for it to be. That makes truth subjective, even if our particular worldview maintains that truth is universal. We have to realize that subjectivity is baked into how most people use the term worldview. We're not on the same page. We're not even in the same universe. In this episode, Catherine and Dave dive into the origins of the term worldview, which was a concept coined by the German Philosopher Immanuel Kant. Then Dave encourages parents to adopt a more nuanced and effective approach based on assumptions rather than rigid and subjective worldviews.  Looking ahead, the podcast promises to delve deeper into the three primary assumption types and their implications for navigating diverse beliefs and perspectives. By equipping parents with a fresh way to engage with differing worldviews, the upcoming episode aims to empower listeners to guide their children's faith journey with clarity and understanding. Philosophy Professor Peter Boghossian notoriously claimed that “faith is a cognitive sickness that's been turned into a moral virtue.” He went on to say that every class is an opportunity to help students lose their faith. When the instructors our kids sit under in higher education come in with an agenda like that, Gen Z's sharp exodus from the faith makes sense. A child would have to be well prepared to withstand that kind of onslaught to their faith. In this episode of "Christian Parent, Crazy World," Catherine delves into the critical question of how higher education is leading Christian kids away from their faith. Her special guest, David Richardson, brings a unique perspective on the landscape of higher education. With over 32 years of experience working with college and university professors, Dave sheds light on the challenges faced by Christian youth in academic settings. Dave's journey from atheist student to faith in Christ provides a powerful testimony of God's transformative work on college campuses. His insights into the beliefs and attitudes of professors shed light on the disconnect between faith and academia. Catherine and Dave explore the impact of higher education on the youth exodus from Christianity and the role of Christian parents in navigating this challenging terrain. The conversation delves into the importance of connecting faith to real-world issues and the need for Christians to live out their beliefs authentically. Hypocrisy and the lack of a tangible connection between God and academic disciplines are identified as key concerns for atheist and agnostic professors. The episode highlights the historical roots of the formalized discipline of science in Western Christian culture and the role of faith in shaping scientific inquiry. The discussion sets the stage for a deeper exploration of core assumptions that influence belief systems in the next episode. As parents grapple with the decision to send their children to secular institutions, Catherine and Dave offer valuable insights into understanding the challenges faced by Christian youth in higher education. By addressing the disconnect between faith and academia, this episode aims to equip parents with the knowledge and tools to support their children's faith journey in an increasingly secular world. Meet Jenna McDonough, a Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher, Sound Healer, and Reiki Master on a mission to bring tranquility and well-being to all. Her journey into the world of wellness began during her first week of college when she discovered the transformative power of yoga. With a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Florida Atlantic University, focusing on Communications Journalism, Jenna initially pursued her passion for teaching by becoming an Elementary ESE teacher. Although she found fulfillment in this profession, she also recognized the toll it could take on one's well-being. After a few years in the education system, Jenna decided to fuse her love for teaching with her passion for yoga, becoming a yoga instructor and delving into the world of guided meditations. Her dedication extended not only to adults but also to children, sharing the gift of yoga with both. As life unfolded, Jenna transitioned away from teaching to focus on her family. However, she continued to nurture her personal meditation and mindfulness practices, leading her to a profound appreciation for sound and energy healing. Driven by her natural teaching inclination, Jenna committed herself to mastering the realms of meditation, mindfulness, sound, and energy healing. She understood firsthand the importance of these practices in combatting life's stresses. In the wake of the pandemic, Jenna observed the escalating discussions around anxiety and stress, which deeply affected both adults and children. Witnessing this, she felt compelled to contribute to alleviating these states of dysregulation and the physical effects of mental distress. Jenna's passion for teaching others became an undeniable calling. Her ultimate objective? To serve anyone seeking a more peaceful and present life, regardless of their busy schedules, geographical location, or financial constraints. To amplify this mission, Jenna founded Soul Candy Wellbeing, an innovative app offering courses and a monthly subscription-based audio membership, with a focus on trauma sensitivity and education. Jenna's philosophy is rooted in the belief that meditation and mindfulness are not one-size-fits-all practices. She emphasizes the importance of discovering what resonates with each individual and what brings them joy, to create a sustainable and personalized practice that suits their unique needs. Jenna's goal is to empower everyone to live their most peaceful and present life.   Website: www.soulcandywellbeing.com Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube: @soulcandywellbeing App Store and Google Play Store: Soul Candy Wellbeing Email: info@soulcandywellbeing.com

This history focuses on five foundational members of the group and their enduring bond, including Lydia Abarça, the first Black prima ballerina with a major international dance company, the first Black ballerina on the cover of Dance magazine, and an Essence cover star; and her equally accomplished friends, Gayle McKinney, Sheila Rohan, Marcia Sells, and Karlya Shelton. Valby is a frequent contributor to Vanity Fair, and has also published work in The New York Times, O Magazine, Glamour, Fast Company, and EW, where she spent fifteen years writing about culture. “You have to let your life fall apart sometimes, and it's extremely humbling and brings a lot of humility to the ego. And in that space, things can start to flow.” Content creator and podcast host Eden Garcia Thaler joins the show to discuss the process of surrender, ego death and rebirth.Eden is a content creator and the host of “Field Notes From the Spiritual Journey” where she explores shadow work, healing, and navigating the spiritual journey as a highly sensitive being. Eden holds a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Human Spirituality & Well-being and studied spiritual tantra at The Shakti School, including the methodologies of meditation and visualization, techniques for regulating the nervous system, emotional processing and manifestation. In this episode, Eden discusses the tough decision to close her spiritual coaching business and go back into the workforce. She talks about the creative evolution she's experienced on her personal transformation journey, and she shares what to do if you're met with resistance or feel stuck despite taking aligned action. We talk about “unsubscribing” from the outcome, which requires both dissolution and surrendering to the process. We discuss the difference between ‘giving up' and ‘surrendering,' the metaphorical ‘eclipse' we experience once we surrender and the grief that comes with it. Eden introduces Carl Jung's philosophy of holding the tension of the opposites so that you become comfortable in the in-between, and she explains why you don't need clarity to move forward. We discuss the ego, how it can distort people's perception of you and how to cope when you're experiencing an “ego death.” We talk about the subtle energetic shift that occurs when you start making decisions from your authentic self instead of from your ego. Eden shares the importance of feeling safe and supported in order to thrive creatively and explains why you sometimes have to take a detour in order to reach the destination on the path toward your dreams.RESOURCES & REFERENCES:“Why Quitting Your Job And Buying a Farm Won't Alleviate Your Career Burnout with Coach For High Achievers Chris Castillo” HERE“Inner-Child Healing and Shadow Work with Emotional Alchemist Eden Garcia Thaler” HEREConnect with Eden:TikTok: HEREInstagram: HEREPodcast: “Field Notes From the Spiritual Journey ” HERESubstack: HEREConnect with Astrocandy:Website: astrocandypodcast.comInstagram: HEREJoin the Astrocandy Social Club HERESign up for our free weekly newsletter HEREAbout Astrocandy:Host Raven Brinson invites you on a mission of self-exploration and discovery through spiritual and mystical topics like astrology; holistic healing and wellness; manifestation; mindfulness and meditation; human design; chakra balancing and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/astrocandy--4556333/support.

Author and professor Eric Heinze joins Tim to talk about freedom of speech and expression at the most fundamental level. He recently wrote a book on free speech, but it's not exactly what you might expect. He explores free speech in a larger more fundamental context than America's First Amendment. He talks about it in the context of universal human rights. Eric tells us about the thinking behind his new book called, “The Most Human Right: Why Free Speech is Everything.” This episode was originally released May 9, 2022. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/337_-_Eric_Heinze_Free_Speech.mp3 One of the benefits of having a podcast is that you get the chance to talk to a diverse set of really smart and interesting people. Sometimes those people write books, and that's the case with our guest today. As mentioned, the book Eric Heinze wrote is about free speech and human rights. Eric is a professor of law and humanities at Queen Mary University of London. In his book, he asks questions like, “What are human rights?” “Are they laid out definitively in the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the U.S. Bill of Rights?” Or, are they just items on a checklist, like a good standard of living, housing, dignity? That's how Eric frames his new book. But what caught my attention when reading the book is how deep he really goes on this topic. He doesn't flinch when he takes the stance that when global human rights programs fail, it is often the result of people being denied one basic human right – freedom of speech.
