Hey Sisterhood. Have you experienced the undeniable uptick in happiness when surrounded by your female friends? Science says it's not just a feel-good moment; it actually improves our health and releases those joy hormones we all crave. In today's chaos, let's not underestimate the therapeutic power of a solid girl gang. Join Chris and I as we chat about the bonds we forge with others, and how they can be the source of immense strength and comfort. This holds particularly true for the bonds between women, often referred to as sisterhood. On our podcast, the conversation centered around the invaluable nature of such connections and the profound impact they have on our well-being. For millennia, sisterhood has offered a unique brand of support and empowerment. However, with the progression of research in social sciences, the benefits of a strong female bond have found scientific backing. Studies indicate that having a solid network of female friends can elevate our health, increase our happiness, and enhance our overall quality of life. In modern times, women are finding sisterhood through various means—be it natural family ties, forged friendships, or professional networks. Establishing these connections is not just about sharing similar careers or interests; it's about building diverse perspectives and cultivating relationships that offer mutual growth and learning opportunities. Connecting with women from different walks of life can bring fresh insights and skills to one another, catalyzing a transformative impact on personal and professional fronts. However, the journey to building a supportive network is not devoid of challenges. Breaking through the cacophony of competitive voices to find genuine connection requires intentionality. Embrace those porch dates, the diverse perspectives, and know that your sisterhood, whether one or a million strong, is a wellspring of vitality. Picture this: An e-commerce business launches. Friends and family show support, but the true test of resilience comes when Jenn faces life's darker moments. Amidst preparing for her company's big reveal, she was grappling with an immense personal sorrow; her brother's suicide. This tragedy became the fuel that powered Jen's mission—Cheekbone Beauty was destined to be more than just a cosmetics line; it became a lifeline to indigenous communities dealing with loss and despair. "I really believe it's the creator of the universe that's helped me get through these things"~says Jenn.  In the wake of such a personal tragedy, many might have retreated. But for her, this was a call to action. She knew her brand had to stand for something greater. Cheekbone Beauty was born out of a dream to uplift indigenous faces, grounded in Jenn's Ojibwe culture and a recognition of the depth of generational trauma affecting her people. Its mission was clear—to provide hope and tangible help through education via scholarship funds. Her heartfelt recollection of conversations with her brother highlights the impact of her endeavor. His awe at the concept of a business with a social mission proves that her vision was compelling. Cheekbone Beauty didn't just talk about making an impact; it took action, steadily increasing the number of scholarships funded each year, touching lives in a palpable way. Her drive and determination are rooted in sobriety—an achievement that is a testament to her strength. Sobriety provided Jenn with clarity, unearthing an unshakable confidence and enabling her to face the daunting task of entrepreneurship with an “I-can-do-anything” (aka YES YOU CAN)attitude.  Each sober year marks not just personal triumph but also signifies the growth of Cheekbone and its social imprint.

From Corporate Executive to Empowering Female Connectors: The Journey of a Super Connector

Business connectors—often called super connectors—are those select individuals that have a talent for bringing people together in a way that can spur on professional growth and powerful collaborations. One such super connector is Betty Hinds, a woman who evolved from a corporate c-suite executive into an entrepreneur whose mission is to help women scale their businesses and fulfill their journeys. "It's that nurturing aspect of caring for others. That's what gives me grace. That's what gives me peace,” humbly says Betty. Before we jump into her inspiring path, it's important to understand what led her to where she is today. Her tenure in corporate America saw her juggernaut effort condensed into a p and l statement, a miniature portrait of business acumen. Yet, like many high-flyers, the weight of long hours and constant relocation began to gnaw at her. She realized there was an opportunity to invest the effort and energy she dedicated to other companies into something she could call her own. Together with her then-fiancé, they plunged into entrepreneurship, securing a staggering $10 million in capital in 1999 to launch their business. Like all true stories of success, there were no straight linear paths to the top. The duo faced their business being spun off after external factors like 9/11 and scandals rippled through their industry. But, in due course, Betty found herself leading the efforts to create multimillion-dollar women's chapters in Maryland—platforms that connected and elevated women professionals. Betty's story illuminates the rocky and tumultuous route that one often must traverse to achieve entrepreneurial success. She emphasizes the necessity of connecting and collaborating with others, learning to communicate effectively, and having the courage to take leaps of faith. All of which are bolstered by her five pillars of success: collaboration, connection, communication, cultivation, and courage. I truly admire and respect what Betty has accomplished!  I absolutely love her authenticity, mindset and grit! Without a doubt, one of the most impactful lessons she shares is the need for self-care. A corporate life requiring repeated relocations tested her personal limits, and the well-being of her family had to be prioritized. This tipping point is where many women find themselves reassessing their trajectories, forging paths grounded in balance between professional aspirations and personal happiness. Betty's reminder: It's okay to not be okay. Prioritize self-care and mental health to fuel your purpose. The struggle is part of the story. These are the journeys that #rockstar #legends are made of! When life hits you hard, it's not about avoiding the fall but how you rise.  In our ever-busy world, finding personal happiness and establishing boundaries can often feel like an unattainable goal—especially for women who juggle multiple roles and responsibilities.  But what if the key to unlocking this wellspring of joy was as simple as engaging in a sport? As unlikely as it sounds, for Dr Jen Welter—the first female coach in the NFL—this rediscovery of self came through the game of pickleball. It was during a soul-searching conversation with a friend that Jen revealed her newfound vitality. Her radiant glow was the result of a life reinvigorated by prioritizing herself in her own life equation. In this episode she candidly shares how the demands of constantly being there for everyone else led her to a point of burnout, a feeling many women can relate to. Give yourself permission to be selfish-ish. Do some ish for YOU so you can be your best for others~Dr. Jen Welter “Pickleball taught me the importance of creating healthy boundaries, such as carving out dedicated times for play, which in turn made me more present, focused, and happier in all aspects of life,” states Jen. These principles are not exclusive to sports; they extend to our daily professional and personal routines. Learning to say 'no' and to schedule time for oneself can lead to an overall increase in effectiveness, fulfillment, and well-being. Women often unconsciously set themselves up for exhaustion by being perpetually available—both in a physical and digital sense. I love the fact that Jen's #pickleball experience highlights a critical point: By scattering our availability, we may inadvertently dull our shine. Jen flips the script by proposing a refreshingly direct approach to life and relationships—being fully present for the task or person at hand, knowing that some things can—and should—wait. Welcome to the stage where vulnerability meets strength, where the spotlight shines not on perfection but on authentic, unwavering self-belief. In this episode, Chris McMartin and I dive into the realm of rockstars – not the kind adorned with electric guitars and tattoos, but those everyday #champions of life who tune their #confidence to the beat of their drum. It's about embracing your fire, standing tall with your #imperfections, and understanding that it's okay not to be for everyone.   It's no secret that life will chip away at our confidence, angling for that one weak spot in our armor. Whether it's a passing comment that sticks or a wave of doubt that temporarily clouds our judgment, it's inevitable. What truly defines a rockstar, though, is resilience. It's about the strength to ask when rocked, "What can I do better?" It's the unwavering belief in the face of struggles.    Less and less shakes the foundation of real rockstar confidence, as time goes on. Wisdom weathers the spirit, honing the ability to decipher meaningful feedback from background noise. The consideration of feedback's source becomes pivotal, and we have to ask ourselves: Is it a lover's quarrel worth mending? Or a stranger's jibe worth ignoring? It's about #discernment, knowing when to hold firm to your script, and when to edit a line or two.   Navigating the dynamics of such criticism, especially in the workplace, is likened to walking a tightrope. Leading with Grit: Insights from an Unstoppable Female CEO

What does it mean to be unbreakable? To Jennifer, an influential leader in the engineering industry, it signifies the culmination of personal authenticity, unwavering support from truth-tellers, and the fruits of deep self-awareness. Her journey, deeply intertwined with personal narratives, professional endeavors, and the essence of "female leadership," underscores a vital message for today's leaders—be true to yourself.   Jennifer's story starts as a single mother in small-town Alberta. Faced with the challenge of raising two daughters while maintaining control and flexibility over her life, she embarked on an entrepreneurial path that led to the founding of Magna Engineering, now a civil engineering firm known for its unique company culture and significant industry advancements. This "third child" of hers stands as a testament to Jennifer's belief that one's business can be deeply personal without sacrificing professionalism or success.   "Like every good entrepreneur, there was a reason for I couldn't go back to the corporate world," says Jennifer.    Her leadership style diverges from the traditional command-and-control model predominately observed in male-dominated industries like engineering. Instead, Jennifer emphasizes relationship-driven decision-making, quality-based project management, and client outcomes that may not align perfectly with budgets or schedules but leave a lasting legacy of excellence.   Jennifer's commitment to personal growth and self-care is key to her success. As she explains, being selfish about self-care isn't a vice but a necessity. Moments of solitude with a latte, nurturing the bond with her daughters, or connecting with a network of other single moms—each aspect feeds into her strength as a leader.   Real-talk, unfiltered-stories and life-changing insights!   You can watch the full video episode on YouTube.  Or listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Amazon or any of your favourite streaming apps.   #WomenInBusiness #inspiration #UnbreakableSpirit #Entrepreneurship #GrowthMindset #BusinessGrowth #VisionaryLeadership #Engineering #womenleaders #SelfCare #empowerment #MorningMotivation

In a world saturated with expectations and roles, it's easy to find ourselves lost in the demands of daily life. Each one of us wears a multitude of hats, each representing a different aspect of our identities and responsibilities.     For some, these roles include being a professional, a friend, a parent, or a supportive partner. For others, it's the unique distinctions that set us apart, like the colorful glasses or the rock n' roll t-shirt, that one might choose to wear as a statement of their personality. These 'hats' or chosen accessories not only provide us with an identity but become a reflection of the versatility and complexity of our lives.   The journey of self-discovery and the expression of our multi-faceted selves was the heart of an enlightening conversation between Chris and I this week. Our candid chat offers our listeners food for thought on how we perceive our own roles and the importance of finding joy and authenticity in each one.   We touch on the sometimes sensitive topic of weight and body image. There is a need for a societal shift where body shaming is eliminated and the focus turns towards empathy and understanding. Comments on someone else's weight are not constructive, and feel that folks should understanding it could be a sensitive subject for many, regardless of age or gender.   We delved into how juggling life-work-family-balance feels like and how we harness our "super skills" to manage the chaos of our busy lives. We stress the importance of being the energy for the next task and bringing the necessary vitality and enthusiasm to each aspect of our day.   Chris and I discuss the intricacies of social interactions and the desire to connect with others, while acknowledging the difficulties in fitting in, especially when your daily life involves a constant shift between diverse roles. We also shed light on the challenges and judgments faced when opting out of social norms due to personal priorities, emphasizing the importance of self-forgiveness and recognizing the value of one's own efforts.    Real-talk, unfiltered-stories and life-changing insights!   You can watch the full video episode on YouTube.  Or listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Amazon or any of your favourite streaming apps.   #LifeRoles #ManyHats #Gratitude #SelfAppreciation #Multitasking #PodcastCommunity #SelfCare #PodcastMoments #Individuality #PodcastChat #LifeBalance #UnbreakableMindset #WomenEmpowerment #leadership #Podcast #Inspiration #PersonalGrowth #podcasts #iamunbreakable #iam #rockstarconfidence #unbreakable

The sting of betrayal can leave deep scars on our hearts and minds, shaking our innermost foundations. Yet, it is within that upheaval where growth and transformation can be seized. This journey of healing and becoming unbreakable rests at the core of the eye-opening and inspiring work done by Dr. Debi Silber, founder of the Post Betrayal Transformation (PBT) Institute. With over three decades of experience in health mindset and personal development, and a painful personal history of betrayal by family and husband, she has channeled her pain into a mission to help others heal.   Dr. Debi's firsthand experience with betrayal led her to realize the importance of considering one's own needs and enforcing boundaries. This realization propelled her to pursue a PhD program specifically focused on studying betrayal, where her research uncovered groundbreaking insights. The corporate world is an all-too-familiar arena where betrayal's impact is commonly underestimated. Recognizing this, her latest venture expands her healing framework into PBT Corporate, offering organizations the tools to foster healthier, more productive work environments.   One key aspect she emphasizes is that betrayal is an intentional trauma so profound that it demands a unique path to healing, hence the formation of the PBT Institute. She has identified five stages through which one must traverse for a full transformation post-betrayal. These stages are a testament to the human spirit's resilience and our ability to reinvent ourselves through our hardest trials.   Dr. Debi's work has shown that betrayal, when left unaddressed, can inflict lasting damage, as evidenced by the alarming symptoms of post betrayal syndrome plaguing countless individuals. Survivors of betrayal often think they've moved past it only to realize they're trapped in the third stage of survival, mistaking momentary stability for true healing.   Her work also reveals the unfortunate reality of those who do not heal: individuals who cling to their victimhood, numb their pain through harmful behaviors, or allow the betrayer to continue without consequence. Her insights into these behaviors serve as a cautionary tale for those hesitant to embark on their healing journey.   Dr. Debi's profound message speaks volumes to the power of healing and growth that lies beyond betrayal.   Real-talk, unfiltered-stories and life-changing insights!   You can watch the full video episode on YouTube.  Or listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Amazon or any of your favourite streaming apps.   #JustDoIt #SuccessStory #Resilience #UnbreakableMindset #WomenEmpowerment #leadership #Podcast #Inspiration #PersonalGrowth #podcasts #iamunbreakable #iam #rockstarconfidence #unbreakable #NationalForgivenessDay #SelfForgiveness #HealTheHeart #Resilience #BetrayalHealing #MoveForward #PostBetrayalSyndrome #NoMoreTriggers

Life's journey is often unpredictable, a tapestry woven from the threads of our choices, circumstances, and the indomitable human spirit. This is the story of one woman's remarkable journey through adversity, reinvention, and success. Her name is Mara Dorne, and her story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the unbreakable quality of the soul.   Mara's life began in middle America, raised by a strong single mother who instilled in her that college was not a choice; it was a destiny. Bound by a scripted life trajectory, she pursued higher education with the single-minded goal of becoming a lawyer—seemingly the only career her upbringing would deem acceptable. With a master's degree in criminal justice, she was on the fast track to law school, ready to embody the dreams that were chosen for her.   However, in 2008, life as Mara knew it crumbled. The economic downturn struck with a ferocity that spared few. Mara, newly married and a mother, faced the collapse of her family's businesses. What followed was a daunting realization: no law school, no clear path forward.   Corporate America proved inhospitable to Mara, her talents overlooked or undervalued. Her identity as an educated and capable professional was shaken as she grappled with the harsh job market realities. It was in this period of intense struggle that serendipity played its hand—during a chance encounter while seeking health insurance, Mara unknowingly embarked on a path that would redefine her life. You will never believe what she did next!   I absolutely love Mara and everything she stands for. Her story is one of fearlessness, resilience and courage. She is evidence that perseverance , a fierce mindset in tandem with hard work, is the key to success.    "I am the second person to ever eclipse a billion dollars in sales. In a recent engaging podcast episode, Gary LeBlanc, CEO of the functional beverage brand Zero dB, shared his profound journey from a high-flying corporate life to becoming an advocate for sustainable health and wellness. Gary's mission centers around the concept of “quieting the noise,” a metaphor derived from his engineering background, emphasizing the importance of reducing life's distractions to enhance our signal-to-noise ratio – the value versus the chaos in our lives.   "You know, in life we have a signal to noise ratio, the value versus the noise in our life. And if you can reduce the noise in your life, that's where the big opportunity is,"~Gary states.    Gary's narrative is one of transformation, catalyzed by personal tragedy when a close friend succumbed to lymphoma. The pain of loss and the reflection it brought led Gary to double down on healthful living. Yet, it was more than the physical; it was an intentional pivot towards a holistic approach encompassing physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. Gary's own lifestyle shifts soon birthed a calling to help others find their path to sustainable wellness. He is a “life engineer,” crafting strategies to not only extend life but to infuse it with happiness.   Gary's vision of wellness challenges the status quo of a bustling corporate culture where burnout is rampant and where our digital devices often create a relentless barrage of stress. To combat this, Gary advises practical steps towards mindfulness, even in an age rife with distractions. He spoke of strategies like digital decluttering and creating mindful moments free from electronic interference. These tactics aren't just designed for personal serenity; they embody a movement towards collective well-being.   I so appreciate Gary's authenticity and his rockstar movement! He is brilliant, and his mindset theory is one that is very aligned with mine. Gary is all heart!  His purpose comes from a place of sincerity and love. The Power of Sisterhood: Cultivating Connections and Empowerment

The term sisterhood often brings to mind a sense of unity, a collective strength shared amongst women. This bond, rooted in empathy and support, transcends mere friendship—it's a powerful alliance that encourages growth, empowerment, and mutual success.    Chris and I are both well-versed in the intricacies of these kinds of rockstar relationships.  We had a blast chatting about the multifaceted impact of sisterhood on both personal and professional spheres.    Amidst the complexities of our modern world, fostering a sisterly rapport amongst women is a profound force of positivity. It's a conscious choice to walk alongside one another, not in competition but in solidarity, to scale heights together and lift one another to new heights. Sisterhood is about amplifying each other's achievements and ensuring that one woman's success becomes the catalyst for many more.   It is essential that I clarify that this discussion isn't about disparaging men or diminishing their roles in our lives. Quite the contrary—it's about spotlighting a dynamic that has perhaps been relegated to the background. Sisterhood isn't an opposition to brotherhood, but a parallel path where women support each other, bringing their unique qualities to the fore.   The benefits of sisterhood are reciprocal. In a culture where reciprocity often means a quid pro quo arrangement, true sisterhood thrives on the pure joy of giving without expectation of immediate return. The shared euphoria of triumphs, big and small, forms the cornerstones of these alliances.   While the world grapples with balancing personal and professional divides, sisterhood often blurs those lines, presenting a more integrated approach to life and work. It's about authentically sharing one's journey, aligning one's passion with professional endeavors, and connecting on a human level that transcends formal business pleasantries.   Ultimately, the power of sisterhood lies in its subtlety, its quiet strength, and its ability to transform both individual lives and the broader community. In a world easily swayed by competition and comparison, the power of sisterhood offers a harmonious counterbalance. It's about fostering genuine connections, savoring the joy of others' successes, and building legacies that extend beyond the personal to the societal. Sisterhood is potent, not for its capacity to shine the light on one, but for its relentless pursuit of lighting up many lives, demonstrating that together, we can achieve more than we ever could alone.   You can watch the full video episode on YouTube.  Or listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Amazon or any of your favourite streaming apps.   #GlobalNetworking #relationships #sisterhood #connections #WomenInBusiness #empower #leaders #Resilience #WomenEmpowerment  #RelationshipsInBusiness #AuthenticConnections #NetworkingTips #empoweredwomenempowerwomen

I am passionate about relationships-all kinds of relationships.  As a media host, investigator and publisher, I have spent the last two decades living, breathing and creating case studies surrounding the effects of authenticity confidence and trust, pertaining to relationships.  The verdict is in.    The landscape of business and personal success is undeniably intertwined with the art of building and maintaining relationships. Our innate ability to connect with others, both professionally and personally, often serves as our secret sauce or superpower, shaping the course of our entrepreneurial ventures and the depth of our social interactions. The core essence of cultivating relationships is grounded in authentic connection, a skill that can radically transform any endeavor by fostering a network of mutual support, trust, and collaboration.   Within the realm of business, the power of relationships extends far beyond the superficial handshake at networking events. It lies in the sustained effort to maintain those connections, nurturing them with the same care one would invest in a budding friendship or romantic relationship. The analogy is simple: just as one wouldn't expect a marriage proposal after a single date, businesses cannot thrive on fleeting encounters. Continuous engagement, genuine interest in the stakeholders' lives, and consistent follow-through are the hallmarks of strong, enduring professional relationships.   Embracing the personal aspect of business is crucial. Businesses aren't faceless entities; they are collective personalities formed by the individuals driving them. When we connect with business leaders and brands, we subconsciously seek alignment with their values, mission, and the impact they aspire to make. This depth of connection surpasses our response to mere company logos or marketed products, thereby reinforcing the notion that business is, inherently, a personal endeavor.   "Just be you, you bring that authentic self to the game, whatever that is."~Chris McMartin   The relationship-building paradigm has shifted, acknowledging the strength in numbers and the profound impact of cultivating a community of allies. The sharing economy flourishes when people connect with zero expectation, focusing on the pure intention of offering value rather than anticipating an immediate return. The key is to adopt strategies that align with one's comfort zone while still seizing the opportunities for connection that will lead to growth.    Relationships are the currency of success in both life and business. When we approach connections with authenticity, empathy, and a gracious spirit of giving, the boundaries between personal and professional dissolve, enabling a synergetic environment where possibilities are limitless, and collaborative achievements become the shared celebrations of our interconnectedness.   You can watch the full video episode on YouTube.  Or listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify or any of your favourite streaming apps.   #GlobalNetworking #relationships #WomenInBusiness #empower #leaders  #WomenEmpowerment #JourneyToSuccess #Resilience #RelationshipsInBusiness #AuthenticConnections #NetworkingTips #empoweredwomenempowerwomen

Empowerment At The Top: Elevating Women to Corporate Boards

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 16, 2024 38:03

In a landscape where the clamor for gender equality within the corporate sphere continues to resonate, voices like Deborah's emerge, not merely as echoes, but as formidable calls to action. As a corporate governance champion, community builder, and agent of change, Deborah Rosati is the founder of a social purpose company, Women Get On Board, which fervently strives to increase female representation on corporate boards.   Founded in 2015, Women Get On Board is straightforward in its mission to get more women on boards, nested in the belief that one woman on a board is token, two is presence, and three is a voice. This powerful mantra propels the organization's actions, as they ceaselessly work towards normalizing women's voices in boardrooms, turning Deborah's passion into a persistent and tangible pursuit for gender parity.   The pursuit is more than a simple agenda; it is backed by data and research supporting the notion that diverse boards result in better decision-making, innovation, and ethical governance. In the backdrop of 2023 statistics from Osler, it's clear that despite an uptick in numbers—with female representation on Canadian public company boards nearing 30%, up from 12% in 2015—there's a significant journey ahead to reach the ideal of 50%.   Debra's conviction is rooted in the belief that women bring unique 'power skills' to the table, beyond their technical proficiency. Collaboration, empathy, and a heightened level of emotional intelligence (EQ) are among these characteristics that women offer, enriching the boardroom with diverse perspectives and approaches.   As a testament to her goal, Deborah's work extends beyond Women Get On Board. She shares insights into her early professional experiences, her encounters with gender biases, and the relentless determination that paved her way to success in both her corporate career as well as her entrepreneurial endeavors. Her personal narrative underscores the critical importance of fostering an environment where all genders can contribute valuably, reinforcing that gender diversity isn't about singling out one group but about enriching the collective spectrum of human potential.   “More women on boards, better decision making, more innovative decisions, more ethical decisions. Women in their leadership roles can bring diversity and bring different skill sets."~Deborah   Deborah is such an amazing, kind thoughtful person.  She is at the top of her game and nothing is going to stop this powerhouse trailblazer.   She is all about female empowerment, collaboration, and elevating all women.  To know her is to experience everything that is good in the world. I love this rockstar! Defying Odds: From Streets to Courtroom Success

Jordana Goldlist's life story is an extraordinary testament to the power of resilience and transformation. Today a successful criminal defense lawyer with her own boutique firm in Toronto, specializing in high-risk criminal litigation, her path was anything but traditional. From a youth challenged by authority and the subsequent spiral into substance abuse, Jordana's journey to the law's front line is a narrative that truly embodies hope, fearlessness, and love.   “I knew that I could not manage both law school and a cocaine addiction."~Jordana   Growing up, Jordana was intellectually curious and a fierce debater, traits that today make her a formidable advocate in the courtroom. Yet, much like many young people, she found herself at odds with the social structures and educational systems that felt constricting to her enterprising mind. Her struggles weren't solely academic; Jordana was also dealing with significant emotional battles that led her to substance abuse at a dangerously young age.   At 14, she was placed in a group home after her mother, at her wit's end, sought professional advice. But far from helpful, the institutionalization only cemented her defiance. On release, she slipped deeper into the drug scene. By 17, Jordana was entrenched in a life many never escape from. A life on the streets, marked by darkness and despair, loomed large in her young world.   It was the unwavering support of her mother and a transformative experience at a rehab center at 19 that planted the seeds of change. Over the next few years, Jordana would claw her way back to sober life, eventually returning to high school and pursuing further education in philosophy. But her dream of practicing law, a childhood aspiration, seemed an impossible reach given her turbulent past.   Yet, Jordana dared to dream. She sent applications to law schools, expecting rejection but needing to satisfy her conscience that she had attempted. The acceptance letters she received were not just affirmations of her academic ability but also important milestones in her personal recovery narrative.   However, her story took yet another turn when, in her last year of undergrad, she relapsed. Here was the critical juncture that would define her future: she had fought so hard to leave behind the shadow of addiction, but it loomed yet again. With an offer of law school on the table, Jordana faced the harsh reality that she stood to lose it all to cocaine once more.   It was in a moment of harrowing clarity, in a friend's kitchen after a multi-day drug binge, that Jordana truly decided enough was enough. Her next waking thought, infused with the gravity of opportunity and the fear of losing it, catalyzed a change. She would not, could not, let the dream of becoming a lawyer dissolve into the ether of addiction. She metaphorically dropped the talisman of her vice back into the abyss she was clambering out from and chose a different life—a life where Jordana Goldlist, the lawyer, could exist.   "And so I promised myself that if I could figure out how to be successful with this law thing, then I would be open about who I was, just so that other people had that example if they were struggling."~Jordana    As a legal professional now handling some of the most complicated criminal cases, Jordana shares her story not just for personal catharsis, but to illuminate a path for others who may feel lost in their own battles with addiction and self-doubt. She emphasizes the importance of self-belief and the refusal to be limited by past mistakes. Jordana's life espouses the enduring lesson that we all can reshape our destinies with conviction, hard work, and a readiness to face our most profound fears head-on.   I love this rockstar! She has such a fearless, strong energy! Jordana is the epitome of hope, strength, and kindness.  She is living proof that if you want something bad enough, and you work hard, your dreams will come true!  Jordana's story is so incredible.  I know her authenticity will help so many others who are struggling.  But the message here is: that your past does not define you.     You can watch the full video episode on YouTube.  Or listen on Apple Podcast, Spotify or any of your favourite streaming apps.   Please show your support with a: Like❤️ Comment

Resilience is often born out of adversity, and Marg Hachey's story exemplifies the unyielding spirit that defines a true leader. Marg, an inspiring woman and an entrepreneur, has not only made significant strides in her professional life but has also bravely overcome personal challenges that would make many falter. Her tale of survival, strength, and leadership serves as a beacon of hope and motivation for women across the globe. Marg's journey into the limelight did not commence under the brightest of stars. It was the discovery of her cancer during what was supposed to be a routine checkup that marked the beginning of a story that would later inspire thousands. The attending physician, noting an abnormality during her ultrasound, uncovered masses on both of her kidneys. Within a rapid six-week period, Marg underwent surgery, removing her left kidney and part of her right kidney. Today, Marg is a 15-year cancer survivor, a testament to her fortitude and tenacity. Her indomitable spirit was further demonstrated when, on the very day of learning about her cancer, she attended her company's Christmas party, putting on a brave face and expressing pride in her team's achievements without divulging a word about her own struggle. This event served as a defining moment, illustrating her remarkable ability to carry the weight of personal hardship while simultaneously upholding her responsibilities as a leader. Marg's entrepreneurial spirit was ignited at a young age, with her first business venture commencing at the tender age of 10 when she sold guppies to a local department store. This early experience set the stage for the serial entrepreneur she was to become. Her business acumen and drive led her to start her own tech company in the '80s – an era when women were hard-pressed to find financial backing in a male-dominated sector. Marg turned this challenge on its head, overcoming barriers with unabashed courage. I've always had a very positive attitude. You know, it's the glass half full.~Marg Her leadership skills were not just confined to the business realm. A family crisis led her to reassess her work-life dynamics, compelling her to delegate more, ultimately reshaping her approach to leadership. It was through vulnerability and the empowerment of her team that she orchestrated the resurgence of her business after a shocking corporate upheaval that had left her staff locked out and bewildered. She not only recovered but rebuilt her company with even greater success, achieving over $50 million in revenue. Currently, Marg contributes her expertise to GroYourBiz, an organization that supports women entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses. With her past experiences in mind, she advises women on overcoming challenges while maintaining a healthy balance between personal care and professional responsibilities. Her global reach, engaging with women from Nigeria to Panama, has not only extended her influence but also brought to light the diverse and innovative businesses women are creating worldwide. Through firesides chats and speaking events, Marg continues to share her story, advocating for the education and empowerment of women. She believes that sharing these narratives can inspire the next generation of female leaders to pursue their dreams, unencumbered by gender disparities and societal barriers. Marg lives by the philosophy of no regrets and takes every hardship as a lesson to grow, adapt, and become unbreakable. Marg embodies the essence of an unbreakable spirit. As a mentor, leader, and visionary, she spreads the message that with a positive mindset, good health, self-care, and unwavering determination, every woman can break through ceilings, overcome obstacles, and emerge unscathed, ready to inspire the world with their unique stories of survival and thriving success. In Episode #36 Marg and I chat about how she turns struggles into triumphs. From selling a tech company to empowering women, she embodies leadership.
