This week we're excited to be joined by Missouri freshman Olivia Kelly. Kelly helped the Tigers advance to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history and finish the season in third place — the highest finish ever for Missouri.Kelly was a mainstay in both the bars lineup, where she averaged a 9.846, and the beam lineup, where she averaged a 9.853. She is one of the team's most valuable athletes in terms of scores. Among all returning gymnasts for next season, Kelly is the second-highest contributor, an impressive feat for a freshman!Kelly joins us to recap the Tigers' historic NCAA Championship run. We also discuss her elite gymnastics background representing Barbados and whether the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles could be in her future.Thank you to our monthly Patreon supporters: Lee B, Cookiemaster, Christa, Happy Girl, Erica S, Semflam, Amy C, Maria L, Becca S, Cathleen R, Faith, Kerry M, M, Derek H, Martin, Sharon B, Randee B, MSU, Kimberly G, Robert H, Lela M, Mara L, Jenna A, Alex M, Mama T, Kelsey, Lidia, Maria P, Alicia O, Cristina K, Bethany J, Diane J, Kentiemac, Marni S, Betny T, Emily C, Cathy D, Lisa T, Libby C, Thiago, Taryn M, Dana B, Jamie S, Chuck C, Je_GL, Kaitlin, Susan P, Katertot, Mallory D, LFC_Hokie, Ella, Debbie, Megan F, Kay, Diane J, Julie B,, Austin K, Jane, Sarah, Amy, Stephen S, Johanna T, Alison S, Kristina T, Abigail W, Becky, Ola S, Jennifer K, Kate M, Naomi S, Claudia, Siona, Erin L, Sarah A, Kennedy B, Thomas B, Lauren D, Kihika N, Beth C, Amy, Renee PM, Ryan V, Brandon H, Tyler, Hayley B, Ben S, Karen S, Kate & Landon, Danielle, ALittleUnderRotated, Dana C, Amy C, Grace, Pat G , Lexi G, Laura N, Kathy, Katie A, Ruby B, Katie E, Róisín, Becca, Megan J, Emily D, Britton, Ry Shep, Reyna G, Catherine, William A, MB, MJ L, Jackson G, Brittany A, Stella, Ulo F, Noah C, Melissa H, Alexis, William M, Trish, Susie, Leslie G, Catherine B, Karlin, Laura L, Katy S, J'nia G, Kathy M, Kathy S, Okcaro, Caroline P & JD B! Evangelical Christians and members of the global LGBTQI human rights movement have vied for influence in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake. Each side accuses the other of serving foreign interests. Yet each proposes future foreign interventions on behalf of their respective causes despite the country's traumatic past with European colonialism and American imperialism. In The Sexual Politics of the Empire: Postcolonial Homophobia in Haiti (University of Illinois Press, 2023), author Erin L. Durban shows two discourses dominate discussions of intervention. One maintains imperialist notions of a backward Haiti so riddled with cultural deficiencies that foreign supervision is necessary to overcome Haitians' resistance to progress. The other sees Haiti as a modern but failed state that exists only through its capacity for violence, including homophobia. In the context of these competing claims, the book explores the creative ways that same-sex desiring and gender creative Haitians contend with anti-LGBTQI violence and ongoing foreign intervention. As the episode neared its conclusion, Erin took a moment to shine a spotlight on the vital efforts of various organizations operating within Haiti, emphasizing the significance of their work and expressing a keen interest in bringing their endeavors to the forefront. The aim was not only to acknowledge these organizations but also to explore avenues through which individuals could offer their support, be it through donations, volunteering, or simply by raising awareness about their commendable efforts. These entities represent just a fraction of the many groups making a difference in Haiti, and include: 1. The Haitian Studies Association: An organization dedicated to scholarly research and academic excellence concerning Haiti and its diaspora. 2. The Lambi Fund of Haiti: A group focused on supporting economic justice, democracy, and sustainable development in Haiti through grassroots initiatives. 3. Partners In Health (PIH) in Haiti: A healthcare organization committed to bringing high-quality health care to some of Haiti's most remote areas. 4. Association of Haitian Women in Boston: An organization aimed at empowering Haitian women by providing them with resources to achieve social and economic stability. Erin L. Durban is an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, affiliated with American Studies; Gender, Women, Sexuality Studies; and the Center for Race, Indigeneity, Disability, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Their scholarship works at the intersections of interdisciplinary feminist and queer studies, transnational American studies, critical disability studies, and critical ecologies. Aleem Mahabir is a PhD candidate in Geography at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. His research interests lie at the intersection of Urban Geography, Social Exclusion, and Psychology. His dissertation research focuses on the link among negative psychosocial dispositions, exclusion, and under-development among marginalized communities in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. This 1/2 episodes is compelling and thought-provoking, The Sexual Politics of Empire examines LGBTQI life in contemporary Haiti against the backdrop of American imperialism and intervention. Listen as Dr. Durban shows how two discourses can dominate discussions of intervention. One maintains imperialist notions of a backward Haiti so riddled with cultural deficiencies that foreign supervision is necessary to overcome Haitians' resistance to progress (sounds familiar?). The other sees Haiti as a modern but failed state that exists only through its capacity for violence, including homophobia. In the context of these competing claims, Dr. Durban explores the creative ways that same-sex desiring and gender creative Haitians contend with anti-LGBTQI violence and ongoing foreign intervention. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/negmawonpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/negmawonpodcast/support

Today's episode is the kick-off of a 3 part series about pharmacy podcasts. This entire episode was recorded using lavaliere (lapel) microphones…even the interview with special guest Dr. Christina Madison. Dr. Christina Madison is a pharmacist, podcast host, and Founder and CEO of The Public Health Pharmacist, PLLC, a public health consulting firm. She is a clinical pharmacist specializing in public health with a focus on infectious communicable diseases. We became fast friends through LinkedIn and Zoom last year, and we had the good fortune of meeting up at the Medipreneurs Summit for Healthcare Entrepreneurs in Cincinnati, OH last weekend (October 8-10, 2021), where she helped me test my new portable podcasting set-up. Pharmacy podcasts, in my humble opinion, are podcasts produced by pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy associations, and the Pharmacy Podcast Network. Next week (October 22, 2021), I'll talk about the pharmacy podcasts I listen to most and why I listen to them. Then, in part 3 of this series (Oct 29, 2021), I will give reasons that pharmacists should have a podcast. What's in it for the pharmacist? What's in it for the listener? Join me for for parts 2 and 3 of this series to hear more about pharmacy podcasts. Thank you Dr. Christina Madison for being my guest on episode 118 of The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast! Christina is a real pro at public speaking and a lot of fun to hang out with. Thanks again Dr. Christina!

Interview with CyberCEO Erin L.
What if you could stop leaning into your career, and instead could have the confidence to go all-in? This week Erin talks with Erin Lydon, Managing Director for Poker Powher, a company that teaches women how to play Texas Hold'em and then helps them translate their newfound poker skills to compete and succeed in business, finance, and so much more. Erin Haztikostas starts off by asking how Erin Lydon's career started. While in Business School at Northwestern, she realized that the guys were taking big-paying finance jobs on Wallstreet, so she decided that was the place to be. She then decided to leave the workforce to raise her two daughters, after struggling (understandably) to work in such a busy environment and do that plus be a good wife and mother well. After a pause to raise her kids, Erin L. went back to work, first as a board member for a few companies. She later joined Evil Geniuses as their strategic advisor. Then, mere weeks before we were all hit by Covid, she took on the role as General Manager at Poker Powher. Erin H. asks how Erin L. was able to take a break from such an intense career and workforce, for such a long period of time, and then walk back into a job many people struggle to get who have never taken time out of work. Erin L. talks through the power and importance of maintaining your networks and connections, even (especially) when you're not looking for a job. Erin L. explains how she started working at Poker Powher and how the emergence of Covid could have very easily put an end to the business. However, they found a way to pivot to a virtual model. They discuss how learning poker, and practicing the game, can teach women so many skills they need to succeed at work. Erin H. asks what our listeners can do on their own to start to experiment, and what programs Poker Powher has for newcomers, especially individuals who might not consider going to something like this. She follows this up by asking. "What's the biggest, strategic thing you have done as a strategic poker player, that has helped her career?" Erin L. talks about how her newfound understanding of the power of observation helps her pause and gather more information at work, helping her have more successful interactions and results in all that she does. Adapting to sea level rise is a challenging business and it's made harder by our complicated legal system. An important discussion today on the Coastal Conundrum Podcast. Coastal local governments are working to develop plans and strategies to adapt to rising seas and increase resilience of community infrastructure, especially roads. Many plans involve protecting, elevating, realigning and even abandoning coastal roads. However, implementing adaptation strategies can be stymied by the current complex and often conflicting legal framework of duties, immunities, and takings law surrounding those decisions. Join host Bill O'Beirne and his guests Shana Jones and Thomas Ruppert -- two legal experts that specialize in the law of coastal adaptation -- for a deep discussion on the legal framework needed to assist coastal states and communities as they work to meet the challenges of sea level rise and coastal flooding. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Implications for Primary Care Nurse Practitioners By: Susan A. Albrecht, PhD, FNP-BC, Brayden N. Kameg, DNP, RN, Kathryn R. Puskar, DrPH, RN, Erin L. Lewis, BSN, Ann M. Mitchell, RhD, RN. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nurpra.2019.05.012 Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) encompass a myriad of biological, psychological, and physiological variants. In primary care, FASDs are not routinely screened for, while prevalence rates remain high at 5% to 9%. Alcohol screening and brief intervention is an evidence-based practice that identifies those who may be consuming alcohol at risky levels and provides a brief motivation-enhancing intervention. FASDs are completely preventable when women do not consume alcohol during the prenatal period, and nurse practitioners who provide patient-centered primary care to women are ideally positioned to help in the prevention FASDs. Erin received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 2003. Opening her private practice in 2006 fulfilled her life-long dream. She is a firm believer in continuing education. She is committed to learning new techniques - essential for providing her patients with the highest quality dentistry possible. She holds numerous association memberships including the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society. Her professional activities include working to provide dental care to under served children and adults in the U.S. and in Honduras. In Jefferson County, she has worked with the Health Department's "Smiles to Go" program treating under-served school age children in the community. In 2007, she spent 10 days in Honduras on a medical mission trip providing dental care to patients of all ages who have no access to a dentist. On a personal note, she is married to Marco Mariscal who works in the Kirkwood School District as a German teacher. They have two wonderful children, Noah and Lucia. Most of my time outside of the office is spent taking the kids to activities and just being a mom.

SXSW 2018 – Recap by Erin L. Albert, MBA, JD, PharmD New this year for virtual attendees: SXSW live streamed several, if not all their keynotes this year on Facebook. I watched Esther Perel (pronounced A-Stare Pa-rel), who's talk was entitled, The Future of Love, Lust and Listening. Her new best-selling book is new called The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity. http://amzn.to/2Gkfee3 She also runs a podcast with couples therapy, and the 2nd season started during her time at SX. Join the SXSW Facebook page and you can watch keynotes for free. Also, new for me this year – the trade show. It was broken into several different categories. It had 2 stages (discovery and next stage), and then several exhibitor pavilions – health, international, social impact, and startup village. Really cool companies there – like wethos.co – a company that's like Fiverr or 99 Designs that works for nonprofits: https://wethos.co/ Super smart cities were there for economic development. For example, Raleigh NC had a booth there, which featured small business owners who are awesome in Raleigh. Shout out to Videri Chocolate Factory, who was in the Raleigh booth. https://viderichocolatefactory.com/about-videri/starr-ratto Also new this year: the SXSW Wellness Expo at the Palmer Events Center Exhibit hall as part of the trade show. You can check out some videos of it (including marijuana) over at Instagram. Ran the 10-th and 11th. The health and wellness information overall is included in SXSW Interactive – there's also a SXSW Music, Film and EDU portion of the March festival. I was a mentor again this year under health and wellness. Had a lot of fascinating mentees, and we discussed a variety of topics – big data and analytics in healthcare, time management, career management/career portfolio management, and major career changes. First off – SX attracts multipationals and generalists of the creative types in healthcare. It's really important to state that those who are attracted to SX tend to be renaissance people, and if you want to do multiple things with your career, YOU CAN, even if medicine and health care professionals want to bucket you into one category. The MSL gig came up a lot – I have a teachable course on this now. And a 57 jobs in pharmacy course. Generally, the mentors are all over the place on their careers and interests – so if you do attend SX in the future, sign up in advance for a mentoring session. Read their bios carefully and take advantage of this one on one time with them. Thank you to Dell for hosting a women funding women session. Although I couldn't get to it with my compressed schedule, I appreciate that they had a session to help women entrepreneurs get funded with their businesses – as women entrepreneurs are grossly underfunded. Also, shout out to my friend Shwen Gwee – who ran a Health Spark 2018 Session march 11-12th for SXSW. He had topics from blockchain in health, to using chat bots, AI, machine learning, and digital wellness. I saw while I was there an interesting statistic during his “Barracuda Bowl” – where startups in health tech competed to win a cash prize – that by 2020, 85% of customer interactions will be managed through conversation WITHOUT a human! Also on the HIT front, talked to the Founder of CareSet - https://careset.com/ – which works with Medicare claims data to help companies guide drug launches. We'll need to get Ashish on the show! Also had a bookstore and author sessions this year. Would LOVE to see more of this in the future! You can go and meet the authors too for autographs and pictures. Overall hot topics this year: AI, AR, blockchain, and SEO relative to video and most of all – digital voice technologies – for everything, including health. I attended a meetup on SEO – and all the talk was about video (and how to get video to show up high on SEO rankings) and digital voice technology SEO. SX live streamed a session in one of their pavilions with interactive AI pet dogs that learn the voice and behavior of those interacting with it. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
