We're so excited to kick off Season 3 of our Recruit Reflection series — where we sit down with athletes who've gone through the college recruiting process to hear all about their journey, from their first contact with coaches to making their final decision. With June 15th right around the corner, the Class of 2027 will soon be able to talk to college coaches. Our hope with this series is to shed light on the many different paths athletes can take, and to highlight both the highs and the lows that come with each individual journey. We're kicking things off with Annalisa and Maea Milton, who joined the elite ranks in 2022 and are identical twin sisters that are committed to LSU. Being twins ourselves who are inseparable, we were super interested in their stories and how they navigated the process. Did they do their calls together? Did they consider going separate ways? We discuss it all! If social media isn't your jam, this episode is for YOU. About Lauren: My (pen)name is Lauren D. Fulter, and I've been travelling dimensions and publishing books since I was 16.My siblings like to say my only personality trait is writing, but when I'm not stuck behind the daunting computer screen writing about trolls or teenage Councils, I'm off pretending I know how to draw, plotting to move somewhere where it rains, and listening to music. In my newest venture, I'm taking on the sunny state of California to pursue a degree in Creative Writing.Book blurb: It's 340 years in the future. Humanity's darkest secret is reawakening, and the only thing that can stop it is to find the Members of the legendary Council. The problem? They're all teenagers. With no memories of how she got there, Nikki stumbles into the small rural region of North Cordell, with nothing by her name and only a glowing green Stone. She intends to listen to the Stone's instructions to stay safe and out of sight, but a light blinking in the mountain calls to her.Winding up trapped in the woods during a storm with five other teens, they're attacked by people in capes and supernatural abilities.Saved by the mysterious Defending Sergeant, and accused of a ridiculous crime, they have on chance to prove their innocence. With everyone against them, the six reluctant friends must put their differences aside and embrace the truth of their destiny against the very nature of which they know.Website: laurendfulter.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurendfulter_author/About Victoria:I'm Victoria, your guide on this creative journey. Medical schools have increasingly incorporated the humanities and social sciences into their teaching, seeking to make future physicians more empathetic and more concerned with equity. In practice, however, these good intentions have not translated into critical consciousness. Humanities and social sciences education has often not only failed to deliver on its promise but even entrenched the inequalities that the medical profession set out to address. In Curricular Injustice: How U.S. Medical Schools Reproduce Inequalities (Columbia UP, 2024), Lauren D. Olsen examines how U.S. medical school faculty conceived, designed, and implemented their vision of education, tracing the failures of curricular reform. She argues that the way medical students encounter humanities and social sciences material in practice has served to reinforce the status quo by teaching them to individualize systemic problems. Students learn to avoid advocacy, critique, and attention to structural inequalities—while also gathering that it will be up to them to find coping strategies for problems from burnout to systemic racism. Olsen pinpoints the limitations of how clinical faculty understand the humanities and social sciences, arguing that in structuring and teaching courses, they assumed, reinforced, and glorified a white, elite model of the medical profession. Showing how deeply intertwined professional and social identities are in medical education, Curricular Injustice has significant implications for how occupations, organizations, and institutions shape understandings of inequality. Though she longs for the cold, she lives in the desert with her large family, spending her days drawing, dabbling in the dimensions of the Fulterverse, and wearing sunglasses for unclarified reasons.

Kiefer, Nicole R., Lauren D. and Kels stop in to talk about their college athletics careers and how they navigated life after their college athletic careers. For the vast majority of college athletes, playing a sport in college is the culmination of years of hard work, and for most, the last stop. A very small percentage of people will ever play after college, and there can be a feeling of being lost and in the wilderness after. They all share their individual stories and talk about what they did to transition away, how they found meaning in other athletic pursuits, the ways in which they satisfy their competitive drive, and how to accept the next phases of life with grace.
