On this week's show, The YP's football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest news from the Yorkshire football scene. They start with assessing the race for automatic promotion in the Championship, in particular Sheffield United's credentials of securing a top-two finish, as they battle it out with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and Burnley. Elsewhere, it is the automatic promotion aspirations of Doncaster Rovers that come under the spotlight in League Two, Grant McCann's side letting a two-goal lead slip at the weekend against Swindon Town, although they still retained a place in the automatic promotion top three spots. They also discuss the sacking of Michael Duff by Huddersfield Town in the wake of their 1-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers, a result which saw them drop out of the play-off positions. Was owner Kevin Nagle right to make a chance in the dugout, or was he too hasty? Also, the writers choose their team and player of the week. Please note, this podcast was recorded BEFORE Barnsley sacked head coach Darrell Clarke and Leeds United's 2-0 Championship win over Millwall on Wednesday night.
In this week's podcast, YP football writer Leon Wobschall joins host Mark Singleton to look over the latest news from the Yorkshire football scene. They start at the top of the Championship where Leeds United and Sheffield United continue to slug it out – both hoping to secure an automatic promotion spot. They then turn their attention to the Yorkshire derby between Barnsley and Huddersfield Town and compare the respective League One play-off hopes of both teams. In League Two, meanwhile, Leon gives his take on Doncaster Rovers' climb back into the automatic promotion spots after their “biggest win of the season” – according to manager Grant McCann – at Morecambe. PLUS the duo pick out a player and a team of the week.
The Tigers Down Under look back on the first half of the 2019/20 season in the last season of the 2010s to be reviewed. Grant McCann replaced Nigel Adkins in the summer, and the first half of the season actually had City looking in reasonable shape to finally push on and make the play offs. ________________________________________________ Twitter: https://twitter.com/HullCityAFCAus Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/aussi... On this week's podcast, The YP's football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to discuss Barnsley's position – both in the League One table and in term of holding onto their best players during the January transfer window. They also cast an eye over the up-and-down fortunes of Doncaster Rovers, just two games from Wembley in the EFL Trophy, but lacking the kind of consistency manager Grant McCann is seeking in League Two. Liam Rosenior calling for patience from Hull City's fans, how do Rotherham United begin to close the gap on the teams above them in the Championship amd why it is taking so long for Darren Moore to turn things around at Huddersfield Town are also up for discussion.
On this week's show, YP football writing duo Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall assess England's latest international break, one which saw them qualify for Euro 2024 with an international break. They also discuss the confirmed appointment of Danny Rohl as the successor to the axed Xisco Munoz at Sheffield Wednesday and whether he will succeed in turning the Owls' poor Championship season around. And in League Two, they discuss the turnaround in form of Bradford City under caretaker boss Kevin McDonald, while the steady improvement for Doncaster Rovers continues to take shape under Grant McCann.
Darren Moore has already experienced the good and the bad from his Huddersfield Town side, ahead of this weekend's return to former club Sheffield Wednesday, from where he surprisingly departed in the summer after steering them to promotion from League One via the playoffs. The Yorkshire Post's Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall also discuss the promise being shown by League One Barnsley and Grant McCann's Doncaster Rovers in League Two.
Leeds United's hard-fought point at home to Newcastle United could prove crucial in their fight for Premier League survival, although the odds remain against them. Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall discuss the Whites' hopes under Sam Allardyce as well as the chances of Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Bradford City progressing through to their respective play-off finals at Wembley. Elsewhere, the YP football writing team discuss the return of Grant McCann as head coach at Doncaster Rovers and its likely impact on the club's hopes of earning promotion back to League One.
YP football writers Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest issues on the Yorkshire football scene. This week, they start off with assessing Leeds United's Premier League survival chances, after defeat to Manchester City and results elsewhere left them second-from-bottom with three games remaining ahead of Saturday's lunchtime kick-off against Newcastle United. The play-offs loom large this week with our panel assessing the hopes of Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Bradford City who all enter this weekend with plenty of optimism. And with Grant McCann being confirmed as the successor to Danny Schofield at Doncaster Rovers – returning for a second spell with the League Two club – our team look at what needs to happen next to stop the club's worrying slide.
