We are joined by YouTube royalty and Leeds Utd fan Joe Wainman to preview this weeks second round Carabao cup.Thats right our old sparring partner from The White Rose Rivals is here to tell us all about Leeds United and how he thinks they will fare up against the owls at S6.The Premier League team have had a mixed start to their league campaign and may look to the cup for a bit of game time for their new multimillion pound signings where as the owls may look to continue with youth after their great penalty win against Bolton in the last round. What ever happens on the pitch with 3500 Leeds fans making the trip it might be like a home game for them as Wednesdayites look to boycott the game due to the current owner.#swfc #wawaw Hosted on Acast. Summer pod has come early as the sun is shining and the Premier League is basically over once again.Any hopes of Saka's comeback goal against Fulham sparking some kind of title race chances for Arsenal were dashed just 24 hours later as Liverpool beat Everton in another Merseyside derby to extend their lead at the top.The heads of Carabao marketing must have looked on in glee as 100's of thousands lined the streets in Newcastle's first trophy parade in 70 odd years, but where oh where could the Geordies go to keep the party rolling?Things are going well for Aston Villa as their new superstars score for fun while they are going deep in the Champions League. But..is it too good to be true?Nottingham Forest beat Man United 1-0 thanks to a great goal from another player in a long line of players currently thriving away from their former club - Anthony Elanga. And in their time of need who did Man United turn to? Why Harry Maguire again of course.Support the showWant to support us and also get some sweet bonus exclusive pods? It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at Alexander Isak, who is hot property right now after another stellar campaign with Newcastle United, which culminated in him firing them to Carabao Cup glory at Wembley on Sunday against Liverpool. Newcastle are absolutely adamant that their Swedish superstar is going nowhere - and so they should be - but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill going into overdrive about clubs interested in prying him away from Tyneside this summer. So we dig into the numbers, take a look at Newcastle's financial position, examine the words of the people in the know about their business model, and try to work out whether this is bluster or something more concrete. We also explore possible destinations for if Newcastle decided that they were going to cash in on their most profitable asset, talking about how Isak would fit at both Liverpool and Arsenal - who are both reported to be very interested - and some alternate options on the continent as well. So, will Alexander Isak continue to spearhead the Geordie renaissance as they work their way up the table? Or will his value, a big offer, and a desire to build out the squad mean that he will be playing football elsewhere next year? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
Adam Hurrey is joined on the Adjudication Panel by Charlie Eccleshare and David Walker. On the agenda: the League Cup's modern status as a "springboard" for its winners, Gary Neville stealing Peter Drury's lines, Dan Burn and the "what a week he's having" threshold, the German concept of a "Sunday goal", some beautiful commentary vibrato, and Doncaster's manager on "swings and roundabouts". Meanwhile, the panel laud Thomas Tuchel's response to the now-traditional questions about singing the national anthem and hear news of a welcome development for generic match balls in the film industry. The 70 year "curse" has been lifted as Newcastle finally win a domestic trophy. And all it took was the wealthiest owners in sports history.Eddie Howe's team looked much more up for it as they cruised to victory in the Carabao Cup final over an increasingly tired looking Liverpool team who just a few short weeks ago were on course for the illusive quad.A big week for Big Dan Burn as he is the unlikely hero in the final and gets an England call up.Elsewhere in the news, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Man United's PR masterclass continued, this time with the announcement of a new state of the art devil inspired stadium plans to replace Old Trafford. The plans were unveiled by Gary Neville, just days after we were told in an interview with Gary Neville that the club is perpetually minutes away from going bust.Support the showWant to support us and also get some sweet bonus exclusive pods?
Somebody pour us a glass of Carabao, it's cup final weekend! But if Liverpool don't win it, will their impressive season be tainted with a sense of what could have been?Marcus, Luke & Andy debate that, and on the flip side—if Newcastle pull off the win, does Eddie Howe cement himself as the Premier League's greatest English manager? We're going on tour! It's time for The Truth!Dougie's back in business with Sam after a well-earned week off and it's a return with a bang as we turn our attention to Manchester United - always a behemoth of a topic, who are currently seemingly locked inside a battle with themselves. After a dreary start to 2025, questions are being asked of Ruben Amorim's stewardship, and if United have actually got worse since he took over. Now, to be fair, Amorim himself said when he took the job that things were going to get worse before they got better, but much of the fanbase was expecting more of an uptick in form five months in than what we've seen on the pitch, especially after defeat to Fulham in the FA Cup wiped out one of the two remaining options that United had for silverware this campaign. But is that criticism fair? Amorim has struggled to get this squad ticking, but there are mitigating factors - the players are taking some time to adapt to his system (those that can), whilst the most impactful players in this squad have been struck down by injuries just as things were taking an upturn for them. Is that enough though, to absolve him of fault? Should United ride out this storm, trust in their new manager and try to build something long term? Or have we already seen enough to suggest that this isn't going to work and that a change is needed before United get bogged down in another cycle not going anywhere? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... It's time for The Truth!Sam Tighe and Dougie Critchley take a look back through the annals of history to analyse the career of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and ask the question - was he a world class striker in the pantheons of the all-time greats, or just an excellent player in his day?Zlatan has long divided opinion, even in a world before the hyper-sensationalisation of social media that we see today. From dancing through players on his debut, scoring some of the best goals that the game has ever seen, referring to himself exclusively in the third person, needing to be the lightning rod for whichever team he played for, and constant references to lions and gods, there is no denying the man was pure entertainment. But entertaining and being one of the greats are two different things. So is Zlatan right up there with the greatest ever to play the game? Or was his own perception of himself bigger than his legacy on the pitch? The Truth is somewhere in the middle...
