Grounded Content - content strategy, marketing, and content creation
Are creativity and productivity at odds with one another? Today on” Grounded Content” host Marion Abrams asks Gregg Clunis, host and producer of "Tiny Leaps, Big Changes," to explore the relationship between these two seemingly conflicting forces and to share what his work in self development can teach content creators. Discover the keys to consistently creating good work, find out how to get out of your own way and be productive as a creative, and gain insights from a veteran podcaster and independent creator on how to motivate yourself. Plus, explore the role of self development in boosting creativity, AND where those strategies fall flat. The key - identify and work with your own creative process. There are a TON of lessons in this episode, here are just a FEW of them: It's important to take time to understand your own creative process and figure out what productivity looks like for you. As a self-employed person, it's important to remember that you have the freedom to work as much or as little as you want, as long as you can afford it. This can help you avoid burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Pairing with a partner or accountability buddy can significantly increase the chances of success when building new habits or working on a project. It's important to question and examine common advice and beliefs, including those related to productivity and consistency, to see if they truly align with your own goals and values. Grounded Content - content strategy, marketing, and content creation
Listen to the episode intro and you'll see I decided to try some AI content tools out. The tool I mention in the show that is specifically for show notes is down today, so I decided to use ChatGPT for these show notes. Unfortunately ChatGPT only knows what I tell it about the episode ... which means I basically have to write a description of the episode in order to get it to write a description of the episode ... but here's what it came up with when I asked for a "catchy title and episode description." Title: "Unleashing the Power of Effective Content Teams with Christoph Trappe" Description: In this episode of Grounded Content, we sit down with Christoph Trappe, Director of Content Strategy at Voxpopme and author of "Content Performance Culture." We discuss the importance of creating good effective content teams and cultures and how to unleash the full potential of your team to drive results. Christoph shares his insights and expertise on building high-performing content teams and creating a culture that supports and encourages great content. Tune in to learn how to take your content to the next level. You can find Chrristoph Trappe on Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/christophtrappe/ And you can fine me on Linkedin too https://www.linkedin.com/in/madmotion/ Thanks!! Marion
Creativity and joy are closely related. If you're feeling stuck, and need some inspiration on how to tap into creativity - Marion Abrams of Grounded Content and I have 8 ideas for you to jumpstart your creativity and joy. Here they are: 1. Just do the thing. Starting is the hardest part. 2. Double down on what you've been doing. Recommit to it. 3. Take yourself on an "artist's date. " (as inspired by Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way) 4. Revisit the source of your inspiration. What started you on your creative journey? Spend time with that, and DO some of it. 5. If you're creating something and have data that can inform you as to what has done the best (on your blog, podcast, social media), spend some time looking at what past episodes or posts have done the best. Go back and look at what some of your favorite past work has been, and take inspiration from that. 6. Take a break or a breather. 7. What has been the favorite thing you've created for your show / blog / art? What did you love about it, or love about creating it? Use your past favorite work as inspiration for what comes next. 8. Go pro, as inspired by Steven Pressfield's "War of Art." Sometimes, you are not going to love your art or the thing you create. And, that's when you need to go back to it and do the work. Marion Abrams of Grounded Content joins the show and we're talking all things content creation, with a special lens around pocasts. I know so many of you that listen, have some sort of entrepreneurial pursuit where you are creating content week over week or on a regular basis. And some of those past episodes about content creation and creativity have been the most downloaded here on JSYJ. Good content all comes back to purpose. What is your mission and why are you creating this thing? This applies to whatever it is that you are making if you are an entrepreneur, whether that be social media, videos, blog posts or written work, etc. It all comes down to your filter and purpose, and offering up something that other people want to engage with. What is a podcast? Is it the same as a video on YouTube? Is it another word for interview? How do you approach editing a podcast or other content? What do you need to know about crafting something for an audience? What about publishing options? (specific to podcasting - where do you publish, why you need a podcast host and more) And, how do you grow your podcast or following? What are the best methods? How he thinks about his marketing strategy and how they execute on the viral video releases. AND it wouldn't be an episode of Grounded Content if we didn't ask that essential question - does the end justify the means? If the product makes the world a better place, does it matter how you "pitch" it? AND - because this product DOES make the world a better place - BUY IT. Do you think you've got good stories? Do you ever wonder if these stories can help you with your business or your life goals, this amazing guest of deal casters does exactly that there's nothing that Marion Abrams cannot do. She's not just a multiple Emmy nominated filmmaker, but also oversees some of the world's best podcasts. It's Spartan has her own podcast. With branded content and also coaches podcasters in all walks of life. You're not only going to fall in love with Mary Abram's stories, but also the amazing human being that she is smart. What's up. I feel like such a rock star with that introduction. love the open you guys do. That's so cool. The video, it's really nice. That's fun. When you've got somebody like you, that has a lot of content to choose from and, be able to pepper it in that's. That's awesome. And we met on clubhouse. Clubhouse comes up every time. The last, I dunno, 10 shows that we've done and it's such a great way to meet people like yourself. But then I saw a video that you did on Instagram. And I was watching it, but of course un-muted and started listening to it. And I was like, wow, that voice, the boy. That sounds awesome. I wonder if she does voiceovers and then I'm thinking to myself, of course, as a podcaster, as a tech nerd, I'm thinking, what's your set up? What's your Mike? What does she got? Because you had to, you didn't have the camera pointed at the mic like you do now. And then I found out. I speak into the same mic as you. Why does my voice sound like butter? Like yours? What's the problem. You know what it is craziest thing. And I love telling people this, when I first got into this business, I was so camera shy that when I had to test the mic and say like one, two, three testing, my face would turn bright red. Like I couldn't even get on camera. And it turns out. And then when I was editing, like years later, I'm editing and I did a scratch track. So for those that don't know, like you're doing an edit and you don't have your professional voiceover yet. And so the editor will just record their voice kind of time things out and they call it a scratch track. And I did the scratch track and the client came in and she said she didn't recognize my voice. And she said, who did that track? That's the worst sounding narration I've ever heard. So the reason I tell you all that is to say you just gotta practice. Yeah. Put your headsets on doc in the mic, you try some different things. You try different energy levels, different distance, different sides of the mic, different tone of voice, different energy. And like you figure out what and the great thing is you don't...
Grounded Content - content strategy, marketing, and content creation
How do you make the "ask"? Maybe it's simpler than it seems. On this episode of the Grounded Content podcast I talk to my friend Matt B. Davis. He's not an expert in marketing, or personal branding, or networking. He's the podcast host who created Obstacle Racing Media, a podcast & media business that has grown from a hobby to a full time job. One that supports his family. He and I talk about this stuff a lot - about what we do to be successful in the independent media world, to market our shows (and for me my client's shows,) to market ourselves, and our products. What works, what's sketchy? What's the latest BS being peddled out there? The reason I really invited him on is because he calls me out on my BS. This episode is really a "spirited" conversation between friends. It may be more conversational than some of the others, but there are some solid tactics and take aways in there too. Grounded Content - content strategy, marketing, and content creation
Amy Swift Crosby and Hilary Laffer host the Brandsmiths podcast, talk about EVERYTHING. I love this episode, but maybe that's because we talk about me so much? “Think about how many chocolate brands there were 10 years ago? Now think about how many there are today. Think about how many beers there were, water. Think about all the popcorn brands. How about self-help brands, and nutrition supplements. We're living in a world where not only is there more of everything, but the channels are endless” The interview starts with some basic background about brand, what it is, and especially what it isn't. But then we start digging deeper. Their show, the Brandsmiths podcast, is different from other branding podcasts. It's a working session where they, on air give, advice to businesses. About halfway through our podcast interview they turned things around on me and started to give me advice on GroundedContent. I love the episode because we really dig into why, especially now, we should be thinking about this. And ... they have some great ideas for making a Grounded Content better. Later in the episode, I tell kind of an origin story about one of the client experiences that started me thinking about where these lines are, and what Amy and Hilary call the ultimate and inevitable paradox of selling. The lines between manipulation and persuasion. I hope you like this interview as much as I did I would really love it if you let me know your thoughts.
