Lights in the sky. Thousands of witnesses. Still no answers. In this episode of Haunted Talks, we explore one of those simple-sounding but incredibly complex questions: What counts as evidence? Using the dramatic December 2024 sightings over New Jersey as a starting point, we investigate how UAP encounters are reported, investigated, and often dismissed. From schoolyard landings and military accounts to fleeting videos and solitary experiences, we examine the fragile boundary between what is witnessed and what is believed. We also draw comparisons to paranormal investigation, where researchers face many of the same challenges: limited tools, elusive phenomena, and the constant push to validate the unexplainable. Because sometimes, the real mystery isn't what happened. It's how we can prove that it did. Are your nightmares trying to tell you something? Most dreams fade the moment we wake up. But some? They cling to us—leaving behind a sense of dread, mystery, or even a chilling certainty that they meant something more. In this episode of Haunted Talks, we descend into the unsettling world of dreams—where sleep paralysis feels like a haunting, prophetic visions glimpse the future, and shared nightmares suggest we may not be dreaming alone. We'll unravel real-life stories of eerie dreams, ghostly encounters in the night, and the moments where the line between dreaming and reality begins to blur. Are dreams just the subconscious at play—or could they be something much, much stranger? Listen now—if you dare. Ghost Towns transport us to a bygone era, where stories of hope, hardship, and human endeavour are etched into every crumbling brick and faded sign. These towns were once vibrant communities, thriving on the dreams and sweat of people who ventured into the unknown to build a new life. As time passed and circumstances changed, these settlements met their fate – abandoned due to economic shifts, natural disasters, or the beckoning of greener pastures. As night falls, the creaking of wooden beams, the distant howl of the wind, and the ominous silence remind us that we are not alone in these forsaken places. The imagination dances with phantoms of the past, whispers of footsteps in empty corridors, and the faint echoes of laughter that once filled now-deserted places.  In the episode, we take a Haunted Talks road trip to explore some of the most interesting and eerie ghost towns in Canada. See some recent footage from the incredibly preserved and creepy Kitsault, BC.

The second episode in a 3-part Haunted Talks special event! We continue our exploration of Canada's most documented and frightening Poltergeist cases. For this episode, we travel to the Maritimes and explore two stories in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Although nearly 50 years and 200 km separate them, these stories share too many details to ignore. They have all of the hallmarks of the poltergeist stories that we've already come to know: the strange noises and aggressive behaviours. In Amherst, a young woman named Esther Cox became the target of suspicion after her family's home was tormented by an entity that would start fires, leave writings on the walls, and directly communicate with witnesses by using knocks or a disembodied voice.  In Caledonia Mills, a family was besieged by a relentless series of fires. It seemed anything could catch fire at any moment: wallpaper, wet towels, and the grass in the yard. Nothing was safe from the flames. The family was so worried about the spread of fire that they all took turns keeping watch, worried that there could be an arsonist lurking in their midst.   The first episode in a 3-part Haunted Talks special event! Over the next few episodes, we'll explore four poltergeist stories that took place in Canada in the 19th and early 20th centuries, all of which seem to share some striking and terrifying similarities.  We start off with one of the greatest Canadian mysteries of all time and what might be the most famous historic poltergeist story in the country: the Baldoon mystery. Rocks and bullets were propelled at the exterior of their house by unseen attackers. Family members would often collect the bullets and rocks and sometimes leave unique markings on the items. They were then brought off the property and even deposited in nearby creeks. Only a few days later, the same bullets and rocks with the unique markings would appear back at their house. Our second poltergeist story takes us to Clarendon, Quebec, where the Dagg Family were subjected to objects flying around and heavy furniture moving by itself. Despite the suspicions placed on a recently adopted daughter who seemed a lightning rod for the activity, there was agreement that no one person could start so many random fires without help. Join us for the next two parts of Canadian Poltergeists! New episodes every day from Oct 19 – 21, 2022!

Jim Dean is the Creative Director of The Haunted Walk, a ghost tour company that operates in three cities in Canada: Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto. During Spooky Season, he contacted me about trying The Haunting at Home Paranormal Adventure. I did it with a couple of friends and had a blast! Now the results are in. I was dying to know about one in particular: The majority of experiments, 74%, were conducted in a house or townhouse. 23% took place in an apartment or a condo. However, regardless of where the experiment was conducted, whether it was a house or an apartment, the percentage of groups reporting activity was the same: 67%. What was up with that? I said if I got a chance to ask him, I would...so I did! But we also had a chance to also talk about The Haunted Walk and other activities they offer --or will again once this pandemic gets under control. Among the other things we talked about was how The Haunting at Home is based on something they do on ghost hunts in haunted places. Including the Laurier House, where they also hold seances like a former Canadian Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King, did when he lived in the house. Jim likened it to a real-life Haunted Mansion, and that was all it took. I was sold. Covid Be Gone! I need to take a trip to Canada and see this place for myself! He also shared a ghost story involving two of the Haunted Walk's tour guides and an apparition at the Black Creek Pioneer Villag. One of the guides and a tour goer saw the woman in period clothing on the boardwalk up ahead of them, but the other guest and guide did not. I also got a chance to ask him about the Virtual Haunted Campfires they also did during Spooky Season, which I thought was really clever and collaborative. Jim is a phenomenal (and humble) storyteller. It was a great privilege to talk with him. What are ghosts? What do they look like? How do they act? Why do they exist? These are all fundamental questions we explore in virtually every episode of Haunted Talks.  As we approach Halloween, when the boundaries between the living and the dead are most blurred – It seems only fitting that we look at these questions once again from a slightly different perspective. In 1900, an article was first published in the Chicago Tribune, “The Habits and Customs of Ghosts – Investigated By Science”. It shares some truly terrifying ghost stories and provides insight into how people thought about the paranormal 120 years ago. Have ghosts changed much over that time?
