After a long hiatus, Haunted Talks returns, diving deeper than ever into the mysterious and unexplained! In this special episode, we unveil exciting new adventures—from spine-tingling nights at the Royal Ontario Museum to eerie ghost tours aboard a haunted ship. But that's just the beginning. We also explore a mystery that has left historians puzzled for centuries: a groundbreaking discovery about the origins of Stonehenge's altar stone. Could this massive six-tonne slab have travelled nearly 500 miles from Scotland? How did ancient people achieve such a feat—and why?
We explore the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, one of America's great unsolved mysteries, unveiling the depths of a brutal power struggle that culminated in a shocking act of gangland violence. Dive into the shadowy world of Jazz Age Chicago in this episode, where vibrant jazz and the illicit flow of liquor set the backdrop for a deadly rivalry between Al Capone and George 'Bugs' Moran. It is a tale of ambition, revenge, and the quest for control over Chicago's underworld. Apply now to become a Haunted Walk storyteller! Returning to Fika with Vicky this week are Authors Shelley (Michelle) Dorey and Jim Moriarty. We had so much fun discussing their A Haunting in Kingston Series in Episode 37, that we decided to visit again with their Witch Way paranormal fiction series. From Michelle ““I've lived in Kingston Ontario all my life, born here, went to Queen's University, and raised my children in this historic city. I like the size and feel of the city and can't think of living anywhere else. Jim Moriarty is my spouse and partner in life, but he was born and lived in New York City, specifically the Bronx. When he was in his twenties, he came to Canada to ski at Mont Tremblant and within a year, he uprooted his life to move here, raising his own kids in Smith Falls which is fairly close to Kingston. We met in 2010 and have been together since then. It was finding a soul mate for both of us, and well worth the wait. We both enjoy skiing, our trips to Cuba every winter, enjoying a beer at our firepit in the evening, and playing with our pug, Suki. We started writing the Hauntings of Kingston series after going on the local Haunted Walk in 2012. It was fun visiting spots in Kingston and hearing tales of ghosts that have been seen in houses, taverns and even near the courthouse where the gallows once stood. But when we got home, we were frustrated as well; we were given the bare bones of the tales, missing the details of the stories. Who were the people who encountered the ghosts? How did the haunting happen? How did the people experience living in a house that was haunted? And that is what sparked the first novel – The Haunting of Crawley House. It is loosely based on a haunted residence that the university owns. We were told a woman died tragically while living there, and that her spirit has been seen in the garden and also in the attic area of the home to this very day. But who was the woman? How did she die? All we were told was it had been a tragic death. What if it was murder? As you can see, asking questions like that flings open the door to the imagination. Well, after finishing that tour, Jim and I started musing on the tale. What if the woman who died was in fact murdered? Why was she killed? And why is she still on this mortal plane, not having moved over to the other side? And that's how my career as an author began. We were in our kitchen, playing this game of ‘what if', and answering the questions. As we did, a story came to life. Today, we call our kitchen ‘The Magic Room'. That's because for many books now, as we prepare and eat supper we brainstorm, bouncing ideas off each other, pausing to jot notes. From there, I will write the next day and he'll do a read-back where things get expanded or changed. There is always a back and forth. There are times that Jim will do a complete re-write of a chapter if he feels it could use more passion. Jim is the more dramatic and I'm the more aloof but disciplined type. It's a good balance and partnership in writing. We are both fans of Stephen King, Anne Rice and Dean Koontz and we read a lot. After writing many frightening tales of ghosts and hauntings, I wanted to write books with more of a fantasy and magical theme. Well, that brought me to a new pen name (Shelley Dorey—yes, I know, how original, huh? LOL . Alcatraz is a place that uniquely captures the imagination, with stories of the civil war, harden criminals, daring escape attempts and lingering legends. We will be exploring “the Rock” through the eyes of Historian, Haunted Talks contributor and former Haunted Walk tour guide, Brittney Bos, Ph.D, as she visits the infamous island for the first time. While wandering the cellblocks and hallways she will share her thoughts and impressions about this one-of-a-kind site and why it is essential to preserve and visit places of tragedy, loss and suffering. For more about Alcatraz, hear from a Park Ranger in Haunted Talks Episode 19 – The Fate of the Kingston Pen.

Hey everyone!! On this week's episode we have a special guest, Richelle from Haunted Walk! Listen to her tell spooooky stories of landmark sites in Canada! Check out Haunted Walk at https://hauntedwalk.com/ Correction: Fort Henry was built in 1832 and Kingston Penitentiary was built in 1835! Also, the courthouse was opened in 1857! And also a thank you to the guides who shared their stories for this episode! We appreciate you!
Jim Dean is the Creative Director of The Haunted Walk, a ghost tour company that operates in three cities in Canada: Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto. During Spooky Season, he contacted me about trying The Haunting at Home Paranormal Adventure. I did it with a couple of friends and had a blast! Now the results are in. I was dying to know about one in particular: The majority of experiments, 74%, were conducted in a house or townhouse. 23% took place in an apartment or a condo. However, regardless of where the experiment was conducted, whether it was a house or an apartment, the percentage of groups reporting activity was the same: 67%. What was up with that? I said if I got a chance to ask him, I would...so I did! But we also had a chance to also talk about The Haunted Walk and other activities they offer --or will again once this pandemic gets under control. Among the other things we talked about was how The Haunting at Home is based on something they do on ghost hunts in haunted places. Including the Laurier House, where they also hold seances like a former Canadian Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King, did when he lived in the house. Jim likened it to a real-life Haunted Mansion, and that was all it took. I was sold. Covid Be Gone! I need to take a trip to Canada and see this place for myself! He also shared a ghost story involving two of the Haunted Walk's tour guides and an apparition at the Black Creek Pioneer Villag. One of the guides and a tour goer saw the woman in period clothing on the boardwalk up ahead of them, but the other guest and guide did not. I also got a chance to ask him about the Virtual Haunted Campfires they also did during Spooky Season, which I thought was really clever and collaborative. Jim is a phenomenal (and humble) storyteller. It was a great privilege to talk with him. If you previously weren't familiar with Jim before this, you can also hear him on the podcast he hosts: Haunted Talks. Guest Info To learn more, visit: https://hauntedwalk.com/. Jim Dean is based out of Canada's capital, Ottawa, ON. He started with the Haunted Walk as a tour guide and worked his way up the ladder. Back in September, Jim from The Haunted Walk, a ghost tour company, reached out to paranormal podcasters with an invitation to try a virtual paranormal experience (https://www.hauntjaunts.net/the-haunting-at-home-a-paranormal-adventure-experience/) they had created: The Haunting at Home Paranormal Adventure. I asked a couple of ghoulfriends to try it with me and we had a blast. We also experienced some paranormal activity thanks to the experiments the Haunting at Home adventure guided us through. Turns out we weren't alone. The Haunted Walk revealed the results from all participants...so far. (At least up through November 15.) They were crazy interesting...and curious. For example, the majority (74%) of experiments were conducted in a home or townhouse. (Apartments and condos accounted for 23%.) Yet, the percentage of both groups (be they homeowners or renters) reporting activity was the same: 67%. Interesting! Hopefully, we'll get to have Jim on the podcast to discuss the Haunting at Home and its stats. Also, if you're interested in trying it yourself, you still can. You can try to win one in the Haunt Jaunts Winner's Choice Holiday 2020 giveaway. Info on that will drop on our site on Black Friday, November 27. This spring there was a notable surge in reports of paranormal activity in people’s homes. What caused this spike and what does it mean? Is there anyway we could test to see how many of us live in haunted houses? Veteran tour guide and founder of Haunted Walk’s Investigation Team, Margo MacDonald, joins us to discuss. Take part in The Haunting at Home Experiment and have a little spooky fun this Halloween Season! Please be sure to check out our new Bubble Ghost Tours in Kingston, Ottawa & Toronto, and visit our online gift shop.
The folks at The Haunted Walk also have a podcast called Haunted Talks. They reached out to other paranormal podcasters, Haunt Jaunts included, and asked if we'd like to check out "The Haunting at Home - A Paranormal Adventure." What is it? Here's the description from their site: “The Haunting at Home – A Paranormal Adventure” is a fun and spooky interactive audio experience that challenges participants to conduct a series of paranormal experiments in the dark. The results from experimenters around the world will be compiled and shared, making it one of the largest paranormal investigations to ever take place – all done from the comfort and safety of your house, apartment, or creepy cabin in the woods. That sounds not only interesting but like a lot of fun so we're on board. We'll be doing a crossover event with the A Haunt Mess podcast to try this "paranormal adventure" out, so keep a lookout for that in the coming weeks. As I mention in this episode, The Haunted Walk has generously supplied a 20% discount code if you're interested in giving "The Haunting at Home" paranormal adventure a try too. What would you do if you saw a ghost? We chat with Haunted Walk of Toronto tour guide, Rogue Benjamin, about the night she was witnesses to one of the most compelling ghost sightings in company history. She also shares with us what she loves about giving ghost tours, how she became a professional Cosplayer, and details about her newly published book, Willow's Story.
Would you buy a haunted doll or a possessed puppet? Every day on eBay, people are doing just that, sometimes spending hundreds of dollars on these very unique and disturbing children’s toys. We figured there was no way better to explore this intriguing subculture than to jump right in. Luckily, the founder of The Haunted Walk, Glen Shackleton, is really bothered by creepy dolls - they freak him out. We decided that nothing would make a better Christmas gift for Glen, than letting him choose his own haunted doll (see pics). To make it even more fun, we didn’t tell him the topic of this episode before we sat him down to make his choice.
Your ghostly girls travel back in time inside Black Creek Pioneer Village for a very special tour. Follow us and our slightly uneasy tour guide into the 19th century buildings. Did Adara see a ghost?
