Was this the final nail in the Adrian Orr coffin? Can we add Christian Hawkesby and the entire monetary policy committee? After all, it's easy to blame a governor, but it's a committee that votes on what to do with the cash rate. After the famed Q2 finished (remember April, May and June), we come to the next committee decision in July. Orr is gone, Hawkesby is up, and they have just witnessed the previous three months. And what do they do? Nothing. No change. They held. Why? Because they felt things were in hand. They also said the economy would contract 0.3%. Yesterday came the proof that it's hard, when you are actually paid as a so-called expert, to get it more wrong than they did. We all felt it and knew it. Most of us wouldn't have been able to put a number round it like the banks have to, but most of us don't have the data they have access to. But what we all knew was it was bad, it was tight, it was ugly, and it wasn't going in the right direction. But the gap between -0.3% and -0.9% is inexcusable. The same way it is inexcusable to stand there in July and tell us more stimulus wasn't needed. At some point someone has to be held to account. Yes, Orr is gone, but only because he packed a sad. Yes, Quigley is gone, but only because he got found out. No one has actually been held to account for a spectacular failure to do the job. Why are the Monetary Policy Committee members still in work? How many of them are there because of their so-called "expertise" versus being appointed for the so-called “right” reasons? Results count. Facts matter. And here is the issue for the Government: as the poll showed us this week, a lot of New Zealanders blame the Government for the economy. They have been let down in no small part by the Reserve Bank and when the Prime Minister the other week on this show fired off a bit of advice, all the pointy heads wrote op-eds whining about independence. Independence is fine. But not if you're useless. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Josh Koskoff, the lawyer for the families of the Sandy Hook victims, did what most thought was impossible. He prevailed in a lawsuit against Remington Arms, the company that manufactured and marketed the AR-15 rifle that was used to murder 20 children, between six and seven years old, and six staff members at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. But obtaining justice for the families wasn't easy. In part 1 of our conversation with Josh, we talk about the lawsuit. In part 2, we talk with Josh about the lawsuit he brought against Alex Jones of Info Wars, who said the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax. The massacre occurred on December 14, 2012. Before driving to the school, Adam Lanza, the gunman, fatally shot his mother. He killed himself after killing the 26 students and staff members. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting in Connecticut history and the deadliest at an elementary school in U.S. history. In December 2014, nine families filed suit in Connecticut against Bushmaster, Remington Arms, Camfour, a distributor of firearms, and the store where Lanza's rifle was purchased. The case was brought as an exemption under the 2005 Federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which generally prohibits lawsuits against gun manufacturers. The families claimed that the AR-15 was suitable only for military and police use and that Remington inappropriately marketed it to civilians. Filing the complaint in Connecticut was the beginning of a seven-year saga. Remington tried to move the case to federal court and to have the case dismissed. There was much legal maneuvering. Eventually, Remington persuaded the trial court to dismiss the case. The families appealed to the Connecticut Supreme Court. The court decided in a 4–3 vote to reverse parts of the trial court's rulings and sent the case back to the trial court for additional hearings. Remington asked the Supreme Court of the United States to review the decision, but the Supreme Court declined. In July 2021, Remington again asked the trial judge to dismiss the lawsuit. The judge denied Remington's request. The next day, Remington offered $33 million to be shared by the nine families. In early 2022, Remington agreed to settle for $73 million.

In this introspective and candid episode of Selective Ignorance, host Mandii B turns the spotlight on the often uncomfortable—but necessary—conversation around accountability in relationships. Specifically, she explores the ways women sometimes overlook glaring red flags in pursuit of love, security, or validation, and how societal expectations can blur the lines between empathy and accountability. The episode begins with [00:00] an overview of accountability and relationship choices, inviting listeners to reflect on how early influences and personal history shape who we love—and why. [02:51] Mandii breaks down what red flags actually look like, why they're often ignored, and how our desire for connection can cloud our judgment. [06:02] The conversation shifts to how men and women pursue love differently, highlighting the pressures women face to “make it work,” even when the odds are against them. Then, at [09:06] Mandii unpacks manipulation in dating, particularly the subtle financial and emotional tactics that can create long-term harm. Using [12:00] current events involving Skai Jackson and Halle Bailey, Mandii examines how the public reacts to young women in the spotlight choosing partners who may not be ideal—and how those reactions often lack the nuance and compassion real healing requires.[15:02] The complexity of young love is laid bare, alongside [17:57] the challenge of balancing empathy for someone's circumstances with accountability for their choices. Mandii explores [20:48] how age and experience change our perspective, making it easier to spot patterns and avoid repeating mistakes. In a refreshing turn, [23:53] the show takes a moment to celebrate healthy and unexpected love stories, like those of Cardi B and Stefon Diggs, before returning to [27:09] the individual journey of healing, therapy, and growth that precedes real connection.By [34:51] the episode dives into emotional triggers, self-awareness, and the role of past traumas in how we show up in relationships. Mandii reflects deeply on [37:53] the societal narratives placed on women, especially around responsibility for making relationships work, and the burden of emotional labor. [40:38] Financial manipulation and power dynamics are explored next, emphasizing how money can be used as both bait and weapon in modern dating. That leads into [43:54] an honest discussion about the consequences of ignoring warning signs, even when they're flashing bright red.[50:53] Mandii shares personal experiences and stories of growth, laying out the uncomfortable but necessary truth: healing often requires accountability—not just for others, but for ourselves. Finally, [01:04:52] the episode closes on a hopeful note, reflecting on the human desire to be loved and how true fulfillment starts with self-completion, not partnership. “No Holes Barred: A Dual Manifesto Of Sexual Exploration And Power” w/ Tempest X!Pre Sale LinkFollow the Guests: IG:@carlawilmarisWatch the full videos of each episode by subscribing to Patreon at Patreon.com/selectiveignoranceFollow the host on Social MediaMandii B Instagram/X @fullcourtpumpsFollow the show on Social MediaInstagram @selectiveignorancepodTiktok @selective.ignoranceX/Twitter @selectiveigpod
The aid crisis in Gaza is deepening. This morning, Israeli soldiers opened fire near crowds of Palestinians approaching a new food distribution site in southern Gaza, the Israeli military confirmed. At least 27 people were killed and dozens more wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. This comes just days after a similar incident left 31 dead and nearly 200 injured, an event for which Israel has denied responsibility. As famine looms and disease spreads through the devastated territory, civilians are caught in an increasingly desperate struggle for survival. Aid is scarce, humanitarian convoys are often attacked or held indefinitely at the Gaza border, and the infrastructure needed to deliver essential supplies has collapsed. In this episode of The Fourcast, Krishnan Guru-Murthy is in Jerusalem, speaking to Milena Ansari, a Palestinian lawyer and researcher with Human Rights Watch, and Zvika Klein, editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Post. They discuss how the crisis is unfolding, why so little aid is getting through, and who is being held accountable.

Brussels has reportedly admitted that freeing itself from the dominance of US tech companies is unrealistic, and that "cooperation will remain significant across the technological value chain." EU states remain dependent on US tech companies, and US President Donald Trump's stance on Europe has the bloc fearing for its sovereignty in global technologies, including social media and cloud services. Another concern is linked to the ability of US law enforcement bodies to get access to data processed by Amazon, Microsoft and Google, the paper said. The draft of the strategy also signals that the EU has very few fresh ideas that may help Europe become an important player in the global technology field, the paper added.
