March 8th: Henry Louis Wallace's First Victim (1990) Sometimes a connection to a crime seems so blatant but, for one reason or another, the police don't seem to see it. On March 8th 1990 a man took the life of a woman he knew and would go on to do that over and over again while, somehow, remaining off the police radar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Louis_Wallace, https://murderpedia.org/male.W/w/wallace-henry-louis.htm, http://themurdersquad.com/episodes/the-taco-bell-strangler-henry-louis-wallace-does-he-have-more-victims/, https://www.thoughtco.com/serial-killer-henry-louis-wallace-973140

From 1992-1994, a serial killer stalked young black women in Charlotte, North Carolina. Police came under fire from families and the media once the killer was unmasked. They blamed being understaffed during a crack epidemic, insisting that most of their murder victims were black and they had a good solve rate. As these were young college students, some young mothers and not really involved in the drug epidemic, their families were rightly outraged. There would be plenty of blame to go around to the cops and the courts when serial killer and rapist, Henry Louis Wallace was finally unmasked. Serial killer Henry Louis Wallace killed 11 women from 1990-1994 in the Charlotte, NC area. He was questioned after the first woman was murdered. The victim's family members believe if someone, anyone had put together the connections surrounding him, many if not all of the remaining victims could still be alive. Was it racial bias that kept their murders from being solved or connected until 11 women had been killed?

As little kids, we are scared of monsters and things that go bump in the night. We hear stories about big scary, hairy creatures that would get you if you weren't being good. You had to always be aware of your surroundings and, of course, beware stranger danger. We grow up and imagine that bad guys are like the ones in the movies. But what if the monster was nothing like that, what if they were kind and helpful. What if they were your good friend? The city of Charlotte, North Carolina was rocked by a man who exploited the trust of the women he knew who allowed him into their homes. This man established friendships with the majority of his victims and then betrayed them by robbing, sexually assaulting and then killing them. This man was Henry Louis Wallace, the Charlotte Strangler.
Henry Louis Wallace would befriend women and then go to visit them at their home, rape them and then strangle and kill them, usually robbing them as well so he could buy drugs. The women were all young, attractive black women who either worked at Taco Bell, where he was a supervisor, or were friends of his girlfriend. After his capture, he confessed to killing 11 women, all friends, one of them he even had referred to as his “little sister." We will cover Wallace's early life, crimes and capture. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/freshlybrewednoir/support

Henry Louis Wallace, aka the Taco Bell Strangler is a ruthless serial killer who was born in Barnwell, SC but reigned terror in East Charlotte, North Carolina.Meticulous and intelligent, this true piece of human garbage stole the lives of multiple black women between 1992 and 1994. His first victim was Caroline Love, but law enforcement officers wouldn't find out that he was responsible until more than two years after she went missing. Months later, a very determined college student and Taco Bell employee Shawna Hawk would be found strangled in her own home by her boyfriend Darryl. Henry didn't stop there, and would also claim the lives of another Taco Bell employee, 24 year old Audrey Spain, 19 year old college student Valencia Jumper, 20 year old mother Michelle Stinson, new mother Vanessa Mack, Bojangles Assistant Manager Betty Baucom, and another new mother 19 year old Brandi Henderson. Are all of Wallace's victims connected, or did Henry fit the description of the newly coined term "Serial Killer", by only killing strangers? The first part describes most of his murders, and it will leave you with too many questions. In the early 1990s a monster was preying on young black women within a 5 mile radius of East Charlotte, NC. As the crimes escalated in violence, Charlotte police couldn't determine if the murders were the work of a serial killer. Some of the crimes seemed to have similar details while other elements were unique in each case. The FBI was finally called in--and they concluded it was not the work of a serial killer. However, that was an erroneous conclusion. The women had one thing in common--each victim knew Henry Louis Wallace. It was a murderous 3 day spree that finally led to an arrest in the murders! This week's episode discusses Henry Loius Wallace, also known as the Taco Bell Strangler. In the early '90s, Wallace terrorized Charlotte, North Carolina, while working as a manager at Taco Bell. At the time of his arrest, he had raped and murdered 10 women. What makes this story unique is that Wallace had a relationship with every woman he killed, which in the serial killer world is a rare occurrence.------Email the podcast: msomindpod@gmail.com------Follow MSOM on social media:https://twitter.com/Msomindpodhttp://instagram.com/msomp_od/https://www.facebook.com/msomindspod-----Thank you for listening and make sure to subscribe and review wherever possible

Colin Whelan planned his wife’s murder before they were even married. He doubled their life insurance and searched the internet using phrases like death by strangulation and ‘asphyxiation’. The calculating groom even studied the court transcript of an American case, that of serial killer Henry Louis Wallace, using his method as inspiration. Then his wife died after falling down the stairs. Before Whelan could be brought to justice, he disappeared in an apparent suicide, but investigators felt he faked his own death... Paul and Billy look into the case of serial killer Henry Louis Wallace. In the early 1990’s, a monster was prowling Charlotte, North Carolina. His targets were young, attractive black women. And his victims barely made the news until he went on a 48-hour killing spree. All of these victims were in his circle of friends and co-workers. He only confessed to those he knew could be tied to him. Which begs the question--how many other victims does he have? See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

In Season 2 episode 13 Beth and Wendy Discuss Henry Louis Wallace, AKA the Taco Bell Strangler. We got into the weeds on this one so it will be a 2 parter. In Part 1 we discuss this American serial killer who killed 11 women in North and South Carolina. Many serial killers target strangers, victims to whom they have no link or relation whatsoever. Henry Louis Wallace was not that kind of serial killer. Wallace preyed on people that he knew: his co-workers and acquaintances. We get into the time, early 90s and the place Charlotte North Carolina. We talk about the emergence of crack cocaine and its effects on poor black communities. Beth and Wendy talk about how Wallace's mother was a strict disciplinarian. She would punish Wallace with a switch and during Culture Corner with Beth and Wendy we explain what that means. We get into Wallace's early life and crimes which began as burglaries, which then escalated to rape and ultimately murder. Wallace a clean cut young man who was very charming. Our listeners were dope enough to chime in on the #hownottogetshmurdered and #hownottogetmurdered and gave us some fire ass tips which we shared on the show. Charlotte was reeling, serial killer Henry Louis Wallace had killed 9 young women and the Charlotte P.D. was struggling to provide answers to the community. They put Garry, against his will, in front of a microphone – expecting him to take the fall. Dee Sumpter, a notorious critic of the Charlotte P.D. at the time even said “the victims weren’t prominent people – they weren’t special and they were black.” However, Garry turned to his family and the values they instilled in him. In true McFadden fashion, Garry returned to Charlotte and answered the call. Garry gave the community the answers they were looking for and even received an award from Dee Sumpter’s advocacy group, Mothers of Murdered Offspring, for how he handled the case. After connecting with the community on a larger scale – Garry then has a very personal conversation with a killer – revealing in incredible detail the road that led him from child abuse to homelessness and eventually…to murder. The crack epidemic swept through Charlotte in the late 80s and 90s, bringing gang violence and turf wars with it. The Charlotte P.D. was working day and night, covering 388 cases between only six detectives. Despite the lack of sleep, Garry turned to the community for answers. Connecting and teaching the Charlotte youth about the dangers of joining a gang instead of just locking up everyone he could. He not only ingratiated himself with the inner city youth, but also with the families of victims to gang violence – who saw the good work he was doing and began to trust him. However, just as the tide was changing, a vicious serial killer Henry Louis Wallace came to town and changed the city of Charlotte forever. Learn more about your ad choices.
