Hikaru Tanaka, the son of renowned anime voice actor Atsuko Tanaka, has updated his official social media account with a message in memory of his mother, stating that he is "truly grateful to all the people who still express their feelings for her."Atsuko Tanaka, known for voicing iconic anime characters such as Flamme in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Lisa Lisa from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Hanami from Jujutsu Kaisen and of course, the original Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, passed away at age 61 after suffering a year-long battle with an undisclosed illness. Attack on Titan fans are eating good this November. No, it's not just because of Thanksgiving, but because of a long-awaited release finally making its way in the fall, courtesy of Crunchyroll.Crunchyroll announced the release date for its Blu-ray SteelBook release of Attack on Titan - Final Season. As the name suggests, the premium home media release collects the final episodes of Attack on Titan Season 4, consisting of Episodes 60-87 and two anime specials. A new report reveals that Japan was able to successfully shut down an impressive 84 illegal anime streaming sites thanks to the help of government-supported hackers. Footage from the recently released Demon Slayer movie has been particularly troublesome in recent months.Sankei reports that the Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) shared that a new international enforcement project utilizing white-hat hackers has forced the closure of 84 pirate sites as of March 2025. It was reported that the damage caused by illegal uploading of Japanese movies, anime and other entertainment in 2022 was between 1.95 trillion-2.202 trillion Japanese yen per year (~US$13.2 billion-$14.9 billion) -- and this number is likely even larger in more recent years. Rob Colletti, the live-action actor playing Wapol in the upcoming new season of Netflix's One Piece, is coming to the defense of Charithra Chandran for portraying Miss Wednesday, also known as Nefertari Vivi, as a woman of color. Chandran's social media channels have been flooded with hateful, racist remarks following the Season 2 trailer premiere at One Piece Day 2025.Colletti, currently cast as "Tin-Plate" Wapol for the "Drum Island" arc of One Piece Season 2, took to social media to address the hateful comments being sent to Chandran after the latest Netflix trailer teased her appearance as Miss Wednesday. Although the One Piece cast was designed to be multiracial by series creator Eiichiro Oda, toxic fans online have attacked Chandran for portraying Vivi, who is depicted with fair skin in the anime and manga, as a British Indian actor. Sakamoto Days -- TMS Entertainment's anime adaptation of Yuto Suzuki's hit action-comedy manga -- is currently one of Shonen Jump's most popular next-generation IPs. However, it is now consistently being overtaken in the anime streaming war by Science Saru's Dandadan series.Per Netflix's streaming report for Aug 4-10, Sakamoto Days is currently the platform's 10th most-watched "Non-English" show worldwide, with over seven million watch hours accrued over 1.1 million views. Comparatively, third-place winner Dandadan has amassed 6.2 million watch hours from 2.5 million total views. Moreover, unlike Sakamoto Days, Dandadan is available on other platforms for international viewers, making its high Netflix ranking even more impressive. The only other anime to earn a spot in Netflix's Top 10 is Studio Hibari's supernatural dark fantasy series Tougen Anki, which sits at a modest seventh place. Recently, a vocal if small subsection of fans online have been up in arms over the casting of Charithra Chandran in the role of Miss Wednesday in the upcoming second season of Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation. In response to the backlash, Chandran's fellow incoming One Piece star Rob Colletti explained that "Charithra was hand-selected by [franchise creator] Oda, and he has far more knowledge and understanding of his own characters than anyone else, particularly the hateful, unimaginative creeps who actually have the audacity to get on the internet to throw hate speech towards an actor without even seeing their absolutely amazing performance on the show."Colletti continued, "But let's talk facts: 'Nefertari' is Egyptian.
