What does it look like to cling to God after the death of a child, when the pain feels suffocating, forgiveness feels impossible, and trust feels fragile? In this powerful continuation of Laura's conversation with Linda Dillow, they explore the remaining heart skills that help grieving parents hold on to God and not give up. They talk honestly about lament as worship in a minor key, choosing trust over fear, the ongoing act of forgiveness (even when it must be repeated again and again), finding encouragement in God's presence, and allowing praise to slowly become the language of a surrendered heart. If you are walking through child loss and wondering how to keep going, this episode will gently remind you that you are not expected to “get over” your grief. This is a journey taken one step, one breath at a time. God meets you in the mess, in the anger, in the questions, and invites you to experience His love in a deeper way than head knowledge alone. You may not know what tomorrow holds. But you can learn, even in grief, to trust the One who holds tomorrow. Linda's new book is Hope for my Hurting Heart. She is also the author of several bestselling books, including Calm My Anxious Heart, Satisfy My Thirsty Soul and Intimate Issues. Linda and her husband, Jody, ministered in the former East European Communist countries and in Asia for eighteen years, training the leadership of the church. In this first of a two-part conversation, Laura sits down with Linda Dillow to explore the heart behind her book “Hope for My Hurting Heart” and the personal losses that shaped it, including the death of her daughter, Joy. Together they begin unpacking the first three of eight “heart skills” designed to help hurting hearts cling to God and not give up. As they discuss loss, Linda shares how grief must be faced rather than resisted, drawing from her own experiences of multiple life-altering losses. She offers gentle wisdom on endurance, perspective, and allowing pain to become a transforming work in God's hands, setting the stage for part two of this rich and hope-filled discussion. Has someone else's story ever encouraged you? Maybe the hard thing you walked through is similar to what you have walked through, and their story of God's faithfulness has ignited hope in you. Hope that God can do the same thing in your story. This is such an important part of the grief journey. And the last letter of my STRENGTH acrostic from my book, *Depth: Growing Through Heartbreak to Strength is the letter H: Honestly share your story and help another hurting heart. I love that God never wastes any of our pain. He doesn't waste one tear or one hurt and instead He uses it. And this is how I think He uses it as we come alongside and help another hurting heart. I really believe it makes our healing come full circle as well. This is what my life verse is all about: 2 Cor 1:3-4. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” I am so excited to have Clarissa Paz on the podcast this week. This is so exciting because Clarissa is in my book. I am actually sharing a story where I honestly shared my personal story and helped another hurting heart and that was Clarissa. This is in the “Me Too” Chapter and the last part of the book and we are going to talk about our story. I walked through a miscarriage and a year or two later, she walked through a miscarriage and how I can alongside and helped her. We are going to show you practically how it looks, and we both get a little choked up at times because it is amazing how it brought us together. It connected us in such a beautiful way, and it did bring my healing full circle as well as help her in the middle of her unexpected storm. We are also going to talk about how she has gone on since then and helped others. It is a really heartfelt episode! Heartache is a staple of the human condition. It is a consequence of the fall. Heartache can come for a wide variety of reasons and is borne out of any number of circumstances, but one thing is clear — we all experience it. What do you do when your heart aches? Where do you turn? Where is your hope found? Psalm 39 gives us some answers.
"It's okay to ask 'why' when we suffer. My friend, whatever it is you're mourning today, don't add silence and shame to your suffering. God already knows. Take Him your tears, your questions, your confusion, even your question of 'why?'. Lay it all before Him, trusting His compassion to be an ocean that will soothe and heal your wounds, even if your circumstances and wounds remain."Leave a comment for Michele: https://incourage.me/?p=229433--Graduation season is here! Did you know that Mother's Day is a really hard day for many women? For some, they lost their mom, and Mother's Day is super difficult. For others, they have lost a child and there is a deep hole in their heart each Mother's day. And for others, they desire to be a mom and that dream has not happened yet. Each month as the pregnancy test is negative, they have to wait for that dream to happen. And so on the podcast for the month of May, I like to highlight special mom stories. I want to remind women, they are not alone in these hard seasons that they are walking through. For some, it is stories of infertility and miscarriage. Other stories are adoption or a child with special needs or a rare disease. My hope for this series is to encourage other women and help give us tools on how we can come alongside and support these women that are walking these hard roads. So today, I am so excited to have Erin Greneaux on the podcast. She is going to share her story of infertility and miscarriage from her book, *Inconceivable Redemption. I pray her words will help encourage another hurting heart. In 2020, Saddleback Church hosted a gathering for grieving women a couple nights before Mother's Day called the Bella Donne, which means beautiful women in Italian. Hey sweet friend. If you're married, chances are you'll relate to this recent #reallife story… There I was, riding in the passenger seat of our family's Expedition while my husband was at the wheel. He was fuming silently and there were hot tears streaming down my face. It felt like I had entered a whole new level of “broken.” I was emotionally wounded and my heart was hurting, as I replayed the intense conversation that we had engaged in just moments earlier… From the outside looking in, I had everything. A new house, a beautiful family, a life that included travel and security and most importantly, the love of my Heavenly Father. Shouldn't I look happy and be happy and feel happy ALL the time? I wasn't sure what the right answer to that question was, and I felt so guilty. Sound familiar? Thankfully, in HIS perfect timing (isn't that the way our God is?) my Heavenly Father stepped in and reminded me of 3 important truths about marriage. These three things started the healing process for my husband and me after that tense argument and drive. Today, I want to speak the same three truths into your heart, because I believe there's healing available for you and your marriage too. Not sure if you will listen to this before or after Christmas, so first of all, let me wish you a Merry Christmas. I hope you and your family have a wonderful celebration. I hope you eat lots of Christmas cookies and enjoy time with loved ones. Most of all, I hope you remember the true meaning of Christmas- Jesus coming to earth, His birth, and Immanuel, God is with us! For this last episode in 2022, I wanted us to start to look forward to 2023. One of things I do is I pick a word for each year. Then, I also want to share with you a resource—a book called *My One Word by Mike Ashcroft and Rachel Olsen. It is a great tool if you want something to read to help you choose your word or a book to help guide you along the way. If you think of grief as a river, you can better understand your experience with it. Maybe you tiptoe slowly into the river, or wade in it for a long time as a loved one is dying or your marriage is ending. Others are thrown into the river of grief with just one phone call, with the news that someone has died suddenly. No matter how you go about getting into the river, this hour-long excerpt from David's Commune course will help you understand: The river of grief will take you to your healing. It will take you where you need to go. Join David Kessler's Commune course, Help for the Hurting Heart, free for 5 days at https://www.onecommune.com/grief Learn more about Commune at onecommune.com.
