When Chester Weger went to trial in 1961, it was heralded by the media as the “Trial of the Century.” Throngs of people, ranging from hungry journalists to curious citizens, lined up outside the LaSalle County Courthouse in Ottawa, Illinois to try and get a coveted seat in the gallery. The quiet Illinois Valley community had never seen a spectacle of this kind. The press, armed with giant cameras and blinding flashbulbs, waited for the police to pull up and escort the accused into the courtroom. The Weger family had pooled what few financial resources they had to hire Chester an attorney – John McNamara. But even with a fine lawyer like McNamara, Chester was facing a prosecution, with its vast resources, that was interested in nothing less than the death penalty, execution by 50,000 volts. Three women were dead, and someone needed to pay. The public needed their pound of flesh and the State needed to put this case to rest. After a three-week trial, the jury returned its verdict: Guilty. But the question that haunted jurors long after the trial had ended was whether or not the right man had paid…Those doubts were evidenced by the fact that the jury elected not to sentence Chester Weger to the electric chair, as the State had demanded…Just in case they got it wrong. It's likely his resolve to prove his innocence that has kept Chester alive all these years. For 62 years and counting, Chester Weger has been waiting for that evidence, that full picture, to finally emerge and definitively reveal that YES. . . they got it wrong and real killers have never been brought to justice. Andy and Whitny dive into the trial of the century and discuss what the jurors were never told. For more information, documents, photos, and other assets associated with and referenced in episode 6's coverage of the case, visit andyhalepodcast.com.

After bringing Steve back a week early to help cover for Katie due to a personal situation, we get ready to send him off again for his other eye surgery by bringing on the girls from the original GLOW, Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling.Tonight we welcome one friend back and introduce three new members to the ER Family. Cheryl Rusa, AKA Lightning, is making her second appearance on our airwaves. As well as being a GLOW girl, she worked for Wally Karbo's LPWA and also JWP in Japan. She is as far as we know, rhe only GLOW girl to actively still hold championship gold, holding the AIWA & PCCW Womens Championships as well as the WAW Internet Championship. In addition to wrestling, Cheryl is also a working actress and stunt woman. Lily Crabtree was the second girl to don the gimmick of Corporal Kelly. In adddition to wrestling, she is a musician having been the vocalist for a band called The Explosive Broomhandles (we HAVE to find out the story behind that!) before leaving the West Coast for life back in the Midwest. Annette Marroquin, AKA Jungle Woman still enjoys an amazing popularity among GLOW fans. This is her first interrview talking about GLOW. Annette is an Illinois Valley native, having grown up in DePue. Not only was Annette a pageant winner, she was also a USFL and NFL cheerleader. It was during those days that she met and became friends with two other women who would also become GLOW girls, and one would become a WWE Hall Of Fame member. Nadine Kadmiri, AKA Ashley Cartier was born in Las Vegas. she was an NFL & USFL cheerleader. It was during that time that she met Annette Marroquin. The rest, as they say, is history. Get ready to send Steve back to surgery with a fun evening (Sean and Katie will be there too).
The guys are back after a brief hiatus, talking about their favorite Illinois Valley restaurants, nice ladies, nice men, and of course, gripes.
Wine Guy Mike Today on The Tasting Room I am going to introduce you to Tom Van Voorhees, Cheese Monger for The Rogue Creamy located in Central Point, Oregon. Live Stream The Tasting Room on KFGM 105.5 FM from 12:00 - 1:00MST right here; http://tunein.com/radio/KFGM---Missoula-Community-Radio-s288054/?utm_source=tiEmbed&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=s288054 Tom Van Voorhees Cheese Monger at Rogue Tom and his wife relocated to Oregon from New York 10 years ago so Tom could begin his career as Cheese Monger at the Rogue Creamery. A Cheese Monger is the manager of the retail cheese department and they are responsible for managing the cheese inventory, selecting the cheese menu, purchasing, receiving, storing, and development of the cheese ripening. Tom has been officially recognized as the top Cheese Monger in the United States. Tom and I have been friends for nearly 10 years now and I rely on him for cheese recommendations frequently. My catering company, Scratch Catering, serves Rogue Creamery cheese selections exclusively. Rogue Valley AVA History The Rogue Valley AVA wine history dates back to the 1840's. European immigrants planted grapes and eventually bottled wines. In 1852, an early settler, Peter Britt, began growing grapes and in 1873 founded Valley View Winery, Oregon's first official winery. A professor from Oregon State University planted an experimental test vineyard in the Rogue Valley AVA in 1968 and discovered this region was a great place to grow grapes and in 1972 the Wisnovsky family renewed the Vally View Winery namesake for their winery label. There are four main growing areas in the Rogue Valley AVA, Bear Creek Valley, Illinois Valley, the Valley of the Rogue, and the Applegate Valley which in itself is its own AVA. Overall there are 16 federally approved AVA's or viticulture growing areas in Oregon. The Rogue Valley AVA covers 1.15 million acres of intermountain valley area in Southern Oregon. The Rogue Valley AVA Grape Varietals Del Rio Vineyards from the Rogue Valley AVA Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay are the major grape varietals that are predominant. There are three valleys that have progressively warmer microclimates providing the Rogue Valley the diversity for growing both warm and cool climate grape varietals. Pinot Noir is grown to the west as this microclimate is influenced by mountain and ocean winds that cool the area and to the east, the warm weather varieties thrive. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc grow in the hills at elevations of nearly 2,000 feet producing grapes with concentrated fruit and sugar. History of Rogue Creamery The Rogue Creamery history spans nearly eight decades. Italian immigrant Tom Vella who had settled in the Sonoma, California area set his sights on the Rogue Valley as an area of opportunity to found a creamery. When Tom arrived it was small farms and pear orchards and the main industry was lumber. Tom was a visionary and entrepreneur opening the small creamery during the Depression, a gutsy move considering the lack of economic climate in the United States. Tom’s goal was to grow the creamery as fast as possible in order to provide employment and sustain the area's small farms. The farmers supported Tom in his endeavor. The Southern Pacific Rail line that ran from Los Angeles, California to Seattle, Washington passed through Medford which is the larger city located right next to Central Point. Passengers traveling between San Francisco, California and Seattle stopped to enjoy theatrical performances at the historic Holly Theatre. Rogue Creamery Cheese Selections The Rogue Creamery flourished during the Depression and provided significant amounts of Cheddar cheese for the troops that fought in World War II. After the war, the Rogue Creamery changed focus and was retooled to serve civilian markets. Cottage cheese was very successfully introduced to the consumer market and served as the transition for the Rogue Creamery to become the premier producer of Blue Cheese that it is today. Inspired by the success of the Cottage cheese Tom Vella knew he needed to grow his product base and Blue Cheese was on Tom’s radar. As the wise entrepreneur that he was, he decided to go right to the source of the best Blue Cheese in the world, Roquefort, France. It was there that Tom and his wife spent the summer of 1955. Tom’s good fortune, talent, and fluency in Italian opened many doors. The Roquefort Association, although shrouded in secrecy, welcomed Tom when he spoke to the supervisor of the facilities in the man’s native dialect. Presented with a gold pass signed by all functionaries of the Society, Tom toured operations from farms to cheese factories to the curing limestone caves at Cambalou. At summer's end, Tom departed France with plans for a Roquefort type cheese factory, already producing Oregon Blue in his imagination. Construction began in Central Point in 1956. Tom envisioned caves similar to the environment of Cambalou and designed a building to duplicate that atmosphere. Two Quonset-shaped half circled rooms of cement were poured, one over the other, with space in between for insulation. The result was a true cave-like atmosphere. Rogue Creamery Retail Store Production of blue began in early 1955, instant success validated Vella’s business acumen. This was the first blue cheese produced in caves west of the Missouri River. Over the years Vella’s dedication to quality was unwavering to the end as was his enthusiasm for the business and the Rogue Valley. He died on December 23, 1998, at age 100. The Rogue Creamery was inherited by Tom’s family and his son Ignazio who became the driving force behind the creamery. Ignazio's reputation as “The Godfather of the artisan cheese industry” really says it all. Ig, as he was known, stayed on as a mentor to current owners David Gremmels and Cary Bryant who are now the senior cheese makers. Ig, Cary, and David Today, the Rogue Creamery is thriving. Gremmels and Bryant have steadfastly held to the principles laid out by Tom and Ig Vella. The creamery’s Mission Statement; An artisan cheese company, with people dedicated to service, sustainability and the art and tradition of making the world's finest handmade cheese. Rogue-River-Blue Cheese-with-certificates In the first two years under the leadership of Gremmels and Bryant, the Creamery had won numerous trophies and awards, including World’s Best Blue Cheese at the 2003 World Cheese Awards in London, a first for a U.S. creamery. The Rogue Creamery produces some of the finest blue and cheddar cheese selections in the world. They are Certified Organic and are quickly headed to also being Certified Biodynamic. Here are a few cheese pairing tips from Cheese Monger Tom Van Voorhees. Cheese Pairing Tips Pairing Tips; Pair regional foods, wine, and beer together. Pair light colored wines and beers with fresh cheeses. Wines higher in tannin exaggerate flavors in cheese ie. fat, sharpness, sweetness and animal flavors. Dessert wines pair nicely with cheeses that have a salty, sharp or bitter flavor. Rogue Creamery Smokey Blue Cheese BLUE CHEESE; Generally pairs well with full-bodied red wines, or sweeter whites such as Gewürztraminer or late harvest dessert wine and Port is classic wine and cheese pairing. CHEDDAR; Generally pairs well with medium to dry white and red wines, especially the sharp and extra-sharp cheddars. Flavored cheddars, usually at the mild or medium level, will expand the selections in both categories of wine. Don’t forget the beers – cheddars are classic companions to a variety of ales, stouts, and lagers. CURDS; Very light in traditional cheese characteristics; the flavoring agents become prevalent in the flavored varieties. Curds pair well with most beers, and with lighter white and red wines. It has been great having Tom Van Voorhees join me in The Tasting Room today and even better sampling the world-class cheese selections from the Rogue Creamery! From my table to yours,
One year ago we journeyed to the Radium City Brewery to see if the rumors of a locally made beer were true. We knew it was going to be something special when we tasted our first Radium City beer. Now, one year later, we have seen Radium City Brew expand to multiple restaurant and liquors stores around the Illinois Valley and Starved Rock Country. We were super pumped to sit down with Dennis, Adam, and Brian to catch up on things and see what the future holds for the best beer around. The Genealogy Gems Podcast with Lisa Louise Cooke - Your Family History Show
A lot has been happening in the genealogy world while I have been on the road, and my job is to boil it down so I can bring you the best genealogy gems and that's what we are going to do in this episode. NEWS: RootsTech If you didn't make it out to Salt Lake City for the huge RootsTech conference – and I do mean huge – don't fret because they have lots of video recordings online for you including a panel that I participated in where the topic was the Future of Genealogy. If you have ever wondered what is coming down the pike, and what some of the leaders in the genealogy community would like to see, I think you will enjoy this . While it was a tall order to get up there on that stage and try to foresee the future, we had fun trying. I would be interested in knowing what you think is out on the horizon for genealogy, and what you would like to see on the horizon for genealogy. and we'll share some of those ideas on an upcoming episode. RootsTech Report from Sunny And if you would like to hear more about what went on at RootsTech here's a there written by our own Sunny Morton, contributing editor to Genealogy Gems. FamilySearch Records Update There are new digitized images for Australia, Austria, China, England, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the U.S. – In fact in might be faster to announce where they are NOT digitizing records! Read Read Your Ancestor's Criminal Past If you have British roots, you will want to check out the new collection available on Findmypast.com: a half million criminal records dating from 1770-1934! This sounds like a pretty gripping collection, whether you've got British roots or not. It contains records like mug shots, court documents, appeals letters and registers from prison ships (which were used when mainland prisons were crowded). According to Findmypast.com, the records "provide a wide variety of color, detail and fascinating social history, chronicling the fate of criminals ranging from fraudsters, counterfeiters, thieves and murderers and their victims." The 500,000 records you can search now are only a fifth of the full collection of 2.5 million that will be online soon. The company calls this the largest collection of historical criminal records from England and Wales to be published online and is done in association with the National Archives (UK). Findmypast.com members can to access the criminal collection directly (make sure the box for "Institutes and Organizations" is checked). Read more about it here: Digitized War of 1812 Pension Files on Fold3 According to the National Archives, pension files for the War of 1812 rate among their most-requested materials. But the files haven't been easy to use because they're only at the National Archives–they haven't been available in published, microfilmed or digitized form. You have either had to research the pension files onsite in Washington, D.C. or order copies from the Archives. Not exactly easy access. This is about to change. The Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS), The National Archives, Ancestry.com and Fold3.com are partners in a huge effort: to preserve and digitize 7.2 million pages of War of 1812 Pension Records and make them available for free online. Who Do You Think You Are? TV Series Update #WDYTYA In recent weeks, that Kelly Clarkson has filmed an episode. A seeing her in Americus, Georgia and that they were shooting footage at . . Newspapers are reporting that the Danish Broadcasting Corporation is filming its own version of “Who Do You Think You Are?” According to the and the (Illinois Valley), popular Danish actress Suzanne Bjerrehuus was in the area filming stories of her great-great-grandparents, who emigrated from Denmark to the American Midwest in 1869. (They apparently left behind one of their six children, from whom Bjerrehuus descends.) Genealogy Jamboree: Church Records for Genealogy on Archives.com About 4.6 million genealogical records from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) are now available on Archives.com. This project represents a unique collection for Archives.com, which partnered with the ELCA Archives to digitize and index about 1000 rolls of microfilmed records of affiliated church. According to the company, this collection represents records that have never been online before. It eliminates the major barriers we usually have in researching church records: not knowing which specific congregation an ancestor attended; not knowing where those records are now and not having easy access to them. Online Historical Maps: From David Rumsey to the DPLA Genealogists rely on historical maps to help us navigate the geography of our ancestors' lives. One of the most important resources available online is the . Well, Rumsey recently announced on his website that he will be making more than 38,000 of his historical maps–everything he's currently got online–available at the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). Google's free program Google Earth includes nearly 150 historic maps in the Layers panel. You can also add historic maps downloaded from Rumsey's site to Google Earth by using the Overlay feature. My video tutorial series called will show you how. You can also get step-by-step instructions in my book . MAILBOX: Lee has some questions, and perhaps you do too: Question: How often do the premium podcasts come out? Answer: Typically there is one new premium episode and one new premium video every month. And the real value in Premium Membership is that when you join, you get the entire back catalogue of Premium podcast episodes and video. That means as soon as you become a Member you will have access to over 95 exclusive Premium episodes and over a dozen videos of my most popular classes and topics! Question: Does the premium version cover different material than the free version or the same topics but with more depth? Answer: Premium podcast episodes are commercial free, and very similar in format to the free show although the material I cover is different, and we often take time to go more in depth into particular genealogy topics. Question: Is it possible to buy one episode of Premium to try it out before subscribing for the full year? Answer: Actually, the free podcast is the "free trial" for Premium. If you like the free podcast, you will love Premium! Question: While searching the iPad App Store for anything new in genealogy, I see there is a paid app for Genealogy Gems but little descriptive information. Is this just for listening to the podcast? Is the price one time or for each episode? Or, have I discovered something new that you are about to tell us all about? Answer: The Genealogy Gems app is a one-time $2.99 purchase (which goes toward development and updates) and conveniently streams the free podcast on your mobile device. It also includes "bonus features" like unique short video, audio, images, and pdfs unique to the app. Click for the Genealogy Gems iPad app: Click for the Genealogy Gems iPhone app: Joyce asks about region-locked video: Question: Is it possible to watch the UK version of Who Do You Think You Are? online? If so I want to. I need to attend their conference one of these days also. Looks like you had a blast! Lisa's Answer: Unfortunately, the UK version is not available outside of the UK online. Many television video providers do what is called "region-locking." However, if you are really determined to watch, a quick Google search can uncover some work around. From the BBC website: Currently BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only, but all BBC iPlayer Radio programmes are available to you. One more thing - occasionally folks upload episodes to YouTube such as . Watch them soon as you can because they are often removed due to copyright issues. New Genealogy Blogs Blogging is in the family at Matt's house…I love your show and look forward to every episode. I've been researching for close to 20 years now, but because of podcasts, blogs and all the other electronic communications that have come along with the Internet, I feel more connected and involved in the genealogy community than ever. I want to thank you for always encouraging us to start our own blog. I finally made that jump yesterday. My daughter, who is only 11, and has her own blog about doll crafts has also been encouraging me, so I thought I better get with the program. You can check it out at I can't promise anything about how often I will post, but I do appreciate the encouragement you always provide to your listeners. Thanks for providing a great resource to the genealogy community. p.s. Just in case you want to check it out, my daughter's blog is: Amanda also has a new blog…I have been catching up on all the genealogy gems podcasts for the last month (I sometimes hear your voice when I don't have my headphones in! :) Anyway, I just recently became a premium member, and I'm working my way through those podcasts and videos to catch up. I just wanted to write to say thank you for doing what you do. I can really tell when I listen that you love what you are doing. I've been "working" on our family tree since 2003 or so, but only in the last year have I gotten serious about it... and only after I started listening to you have I realized about sources. So, I now have a tree with over 13,000 people in it and most of it isn't sourced. I wanted to let you know that I have started a genealogy blog (mostly so I can go back and source everything from the beginning). I have had a blog in the past just about my kids and other general stuff, but I never kept it going. I'm already thinking differently about this one because of all the possibilities there are... the address is , I hope you'll check it out. It's about more than just the Feeser line of our family, but since that's my last name now, that is what we used as the title. Just after my very first post some of my first cousins (who I talk to a lot) let me know about some pictures and information they have, and one of my cousins even has a recording of our great grandmother that she did when she was younger (she's the oldest cousin). Linda likes to blog and laugh…I have been meaning to write to you for some time now to thank you for your marvelous podcast. I have been a faithful listener to Genealogy Gems since the beginning and have enjoyed your stories, insights, and how-tos. You have a gift for expressing the joys of learning about our family history, not to mention a contagious laugh! Your podcasts have kept me company on walks, while doing chores, even when waiting in line. On a warm June afternoon a couple of years ago, I found myself doing just that - listening to your podcasts on immigration records and taking copious notes as I stood in line for several hours at the Palo Alto Apple Store, waiting to "early-adopt" my first iPhone. Some hours later, I logged onto Ancestry.com to search for my elusive Italian Schiavone family, using your tips. What a surprise when I found my great-grandfather Vito and his oldest son, Pasquale, in the Ellis Island records! Your tips on how to read the ship's record led me to Pasquale's petition for immigration - and to so much more…When I finally tumbled into bed at 5:00 a.m.. my sweet (and very understanding husband) asked me why I had stayed up for so long. I could hardly begin to tell him, because I was still crying tears of joy. Not long after that, I reconnected with a cousin I had lost touch with and since then have made new connections with long-lost cousins I had never known from this side of the family…It turned out the other cousin remembered my grandfather Schiavone. He had invited her family to stay at our home while our family was away on vacation. She actually rode my tricycle and played in my sandbox! Can you believe what a small world? And all of this thanks to you. Unfortunately, this cousin passed away just last year, but I feel so blessed to have met her and to have made the other connections, who I will always treasure. By the way, I want to echo your enthusiasm for the rewards of blogging about family history. It is so much fun, not to mention a great way to record family history for our children and for those who are searching for their roots. But there are other rewards, too, in that researching and writing about our families allows us the opportunity to really reflect on their lives and understand them better. This can in turn sometimes lead to some wonderful discoveries we may not have made if we had not reflected on their stories in this way. I invite you to visit my blog, called Many Branches, One Tree, at Bill is celebrating 160 years down under on his blog…I thought you might like to hear about another blog you inspired. I created a web site dedicated to the Jessep Family history back in 1997. It holds just the facts and covers the many spellings of the name. This is my father's page so you can see what I mean. My Jessep line arrived in Australia on the 29 Sep 1854 and I suddenly realized that in 2014 our line will have been Down Under 160 years. Now that is something to get excited about and provided a starting point for the story. The blog also allows the story to start and get added to with the help of others. This gave it the purpose it had been missing. The about page has more information: GEM: Interview with Chris Whitten, Founder of of my interview with Chris was done for the Family Tree Magazine podcast. In this episode, Part 2 Chris talks about the According to Chris: "This is really a major advance on WikiTree. It makes it much more useful for people who just want to stick their toe in the water and see if cousins are already participating here.”

April showers brought plenty of flowers, but unfortunately they also brought record breaking flood levels to the Illinois Valley. This week on the show we talk all about the floods and the effects on the area. The show is not all serious though, as we give updates on John and Clayton's home run battle (that no one cares about), followed by our usual apps, podcasts, and Tweets of the Week. We would like to thank O-Nett Gaming Co. for sponsoring this episode of the IV Alternative Podcast..! https://www.facebook.com/onett.gaming Here are the links from today's show: NewsTribune Flood Article CBS Chicago Flood Report The Ottawa Times Article on the Flood Record The Ottawa Times Article about local sports Lost On Purpose Kickstarter Deadspin Article on the Raptors Sign And here is today's show music: CRUZIN (Benedek) / CC BY 3.0 Eighties Action by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a CC Attribution 3.0. When you think of Skydive Chicago, what do you think of? Do you think of the fact that right here in the Illinois Valley we have one of the biggest skydiving locations in the nation? Do you think of their amazing facility, with camping, dining, disc golf, and swimming? How about that they break world records year after year with massive multi-jumper vertical formations? Or are you like so many locals who only think of an outdated stigma? This week we review the facilities statistics, plus we welcome a very special guest. On the show, is a world record holding professional skydiver who also happens to be the owner of Skydive Chicago, Rook Nelson. We talk to Rook about the past, present, and future of the business. It was a wonderful interview and we hope you enjoy it. After the big interview, we do our Tweets of the Week plus a review of our latest podcast listening. And since we forgot to plug Rook's online handles during the show, here they are… Skydive Chicago website – SkydiveChicago.com Twitter - @SDCAIRNEWS and @SkydiveChicago Facebook – Skydive Chicago on Facebook Skydive Chicago Youtube Videos
This week we dive into the Rock Island Clean Line project eyeing the Illinois Valley. The project aims to bring a high voltage direct current line through the area but no direct impact to the area. We are all over this topic along with some discussion on the solar activity coming. All that and then our Tweets of the Week. Rock on.
This week John and Clayton cruise through a bunch of local Illinois Valley topics. First thing's first, we gotta send out some love for the awesome response due to the News Tribune article. A big thanks goes out to the NewsTrib and all the people that gave us some new Likes and Follows. After talking about the article, we talk local podcasts, and discuss another podcast that popped onto our radars, CandidRadio, based out of LaSalle. After that, we react to the recent Lipton Building Fire in Streator, IL. Then for the first time ever, we play an mp3 email question about the new natural gas filling station in LaSalle, IL. We spend some time discussing natural gas and the impact on the area. Then John does some venting on the idea of live streaming Peru council meetings. After that we tackle a huge list of Tweets of the Week. Finally, the usual apps and podcasts to finish things off. Rock on. In addition to the hyperlinks above, here are some of the other websites we referenced in the show: NewsTribune Story on Natural Gas Filling Station, 4 Reasons Natural Gas is Cheap, How Natural Gas Cars Work, and the Sky diving Record Story.
The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast, Episode 37 is alive and taking over the web. Look out. After another summer recording slump, John and Clayton bounce back with one of the longest shows ever (sorry about that). So many things this week, but the most important of all is this show includes both a guest and some local Illinois Valley music. We send a big thanks to Ric Soens of The Ric Soens Band who allowed us to play one of his songs on our show. Check it out around the 15 minute mark. For more on Ric's music, check out his stuff on iTunes, Spotify, or head over to his Reverbnation page (link). (he is also on Amazon and YouTube) (15:00) Before we played some local music, the show hit up a couple quick local events including a talk on the summer heat wave, some 4th of July fireworks talk, and the IV Flyers event. (00:00 – 15:00) After that, for only the third time ever, we had a guest! This week, Nick (@revlo1983) from the Illinois Valley Gaming Society (@IVGamingSociety) joined us in the booth to talk about a bunch of nerdy things. Nick gave us a tutorial on Magic the Gathering, plus an update from a recent local movie premier in Princeton, IL – Power by Adam Agushi. He also gave us some background on the IV Gamers new podcast, The Nerdy Directive, produced by Simply Wicked Radio. Plenty of nerdy rambling to fill in the cracks, plus some Dreamwave Wrestling talk which eventually spilled into a discussion of Ravishing Rick Rude's abs. A big thanks to Nick for joining us! (19:00 – 57:00) After a little pickleball talk, the final chunk of the show gets back to normal with our favorite segment, the ReTweets of the Week! This included some Disc Golf talk, Cubs baseball, and Beer. The show takes a little turn with some words for a new local Illinois Valley Twitter hit (IV Jokes), and finally our usual apps and podcasts. (58:00 – End) Yeah, it's a long one…
The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is here to rock the internet radio world. This week John and Clayton hammer through a ton of IV related stuff. Let's see, there is prostitution, crack head behavior, cock fighting and local home invasion altercations, just to name a few. Other topics (that are a little more normal) include the continuing Starved Rock sand mine debate, the IVCC tuition increase, Dreamwave wrestling, and the Illinois State Park passport idea. Despite all this stuff, some how we still managed to cover our usual podcast and app topics, plus a shout out to an Illinois Valley favorite...fried food. Rock on!
This week's Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is a little odd because we don't really talk about the Illinois Valley. Instead, the main topic is on the serious side. After listening to the SYSK podcast on Human Trafficking (present day slavery), John and Clayton felt compelled to paraphrase it. Scary stuff. It's not all serious though since the guys chat about the Super Bowl, Dreamwave wrestling, Oglesby SOS Trivia Night, alcohol (surprise surprise), and dreams. Plus the usual stuff to fill in the cracks. Rock on.
The podcast is out of the holiday slump and back in action. This week John and Clayton throw in their two cents on some of the major issues of the Illinois Valley, including the Starved Rock Sand Mine plus the Peru Westclox fire. There is also a little follow up from the blogger episode and some venting on area hockey games. The show finishes off with the usual podcasts and apps, plus we find out that you can hire your own videogame bodyguard. Plenty more mixed into the cracks. Rock on.
This week the IV Alternative Podcast tackles the crackdown on out-of-compliant pool drains, and the impact on Illinois Valley pools. We also talk about the big train derailment, some local football talk, and the cornfield manhunt. The show finishes up with the usual podcast/smartphone app coverage, plus a very unusual moment for Clayton... Rock on!
After an exhausting 4th of July weekend, John and Clayton pull themselves together to tackle some hot topics around the Illinois Valley. This week the topic is fireworks, booze, and how those things affect the Waterstreet area around the 3rd of July. Some opinions fly so hang on tight cause someone might get upset...and if so....don't forget to let us know at mail@ivpod.com. Rock on.
The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is rocking with a special episode. This week John and Clayton welcome their amigo Brian to the show. Brian is the inside source for all IV news, and this week he is here to talk about a major project that will be affecting many of the Illinois Valley towns. Also plenty of the usual fun such as our podcasts of the week and other random thoughts of nothingness. And don't forget to send any questions or comments to mail@ivpod.com. This week's random search engine plug is Marseilles, IL. Did you know that Marseilles sits on an area of the Illinois River that historically was called the Grand Rapids...? how about that..
To celebrate our 20th Episode we finally got a guest for the show. This week John's brother comes by to guest host. After some initial awkwardness, the show takes off to levels never before reached by an Illinois Valley podcast. The topic of the week is the Brain Drain. Thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughts on this topic, and a sorry to Brian...we forgot to talk about your suggestions...crap. Rock on. And this week's blatant search engine buzz word is none other then Ladd, IL. The home of some of the greatest fried chicken around....
This is a special Blizzard Edition Podcast...This week we talk about a bunch of random topics including the effect of raising speeding ticket fines, the lovely smell of sludge around the Illinois Valley, plus a revisit to last weeks mysterious animal deaths. John also gives us some background on his run in with the law last weekend, plus our usual apps and podcasts of the week. Also, don't forget to come find us on Twitter (@IVpodcast). Rock On.
The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is back from its short hiatus and ready to rock the Illinois Valley's world. Well, not really. As the title suggests, this week we talk about the birds and the bees. We also spend time venting our frustrations with the NFC title game. Plenty of sillyness along the way plus our favorite podcasts and apps of the week. Rock on.
Welcome to 2011! The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is still rocking. We wish everyone a Happy New Year and all that jazz. This week we run through some of the top 2010 news and sports stories around the Illinois Valley. We also have some fun talking about smartphone apps plus a segment on New Years resolutions. And a special challenge for all listeners....Can you name the videogame music during our break...? A little hint: its old school.
This week we changed up the format a little bit and discussed a variety of Illinois Valley topics. A little news, a little opinion, and the c-word. Topics included the Peru Pool closing, the election, the Depue boy with the ghost costume, some videogame talk, and plenty of nonsense to fill your day...
We couldn't pick one topic this week, so we decided to talk about a bunch of Illinois Valley stuff. This week's show touches on some fall activities like scenic driving, the Burgoo, haunted houses, and football. We also share our favorite podcasts of the week, and just a lot of silly banter. We hope you enjoy it...
