Amy Beauchamp documents her travel across two continents to descend into the country of Nigeria, Africa. She is researching the supernatural weave of an ancient land amidst a modernizing culture that is still predominantly tribal. After spending two years building several networks across the Northern belt of Africa, she embeds herself with a Nigerian family to learn what it is like on the ground in a population of 200+ million Nigerians...where many are still practicing the ancient pagan Yoruba religion that would eventually evolve into VooDoo and Santeria in other parts of the world. You can find out more about Amy online at her website https://www.pandorasjarparanormal.com/ (Pandora's Jar Paranormal). I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but the world is a bit crazy night now. But mixed in with all of the craziness are little bits of normalcy that can help make things be not so jarring. Good thing I've got Mike Campbell from my local shop Captain's Comics and Toys to come by and talk about their upcoming Captain's Comic Expo. Learn such things as: What special precautions are having to be made at cons this year? What can I expect to find at this one specifically? Will I actually go this year? (Probably not, I'm a lazy hermit) And so much more! You can find Mike and Captain's Comics and Toys on Facebook @CaptainsComicsAndToys, Instagram @captainscomicsandtoys, and the Captain's Comics and Toys website. We all know KISS the band, right? Those makeup wearing rock dudes who just want to rock and party and put on a good show. Well, did you know that they've had comics stretching back to the early days of their career? Or that there's a game based on one of the runs? I didn't. Well, I knew there was the KISS game but only that it existed. Good thing I have Scarlett O'Dell from Gatecrashers here to help straighten everything out. Horror and comics just seem to go hand in hand. Horror comics had a large hand in the creation of the comics code many years ago, and it seems like so many people have a secret love and/or talent for horror. So why not have a place where you can let that out without a big commitment? Enter Steve Foxe, half of the creator team behind Razorblades. Listen in terror as we talk about the creation of a collection of things that go bump in the night, except not anywhere nearly as cheesy as that since Steve is a professional. James meanwhile was not here and may or may not have been tied up in a basement somewhere.......... Learn such things as: Why do people take on so many projects? What were the real reasons behind Steve and James creating this horror anthology? Who are some of the great creators that have contributed? Where is the picture of Steve's dog? (Just check out his Instragram account, I don't want to actually steal a picture of his dog) And so much more! What do space and the ocean have in common? A lot of things actually. Like people getting lost and having close encounters with giant monsters who probably want to eat them. Listen in as Frank Martin comes to talk about his new Kickstarter comic project The Polar Paradox. What is so fascinating about the ocean anyway? Do I as a reader really need to know a super detailed backstory about every character? What are some good ways to make sure you get press for your own project? And so much more! These days when a series is based all around fighting and punching people in the face it's a surprise when there isn't a fighting game to go along with it. But did you know that there was a time when Street Fighter II hadn't come out yet? And that people were making fighting games before it? Listen in as Andrew Mecha Davis from Popanimecomics joins the show to help take a look at Fist of the North Star 10 Big Brawls for the King of the Universe to help solve the mystery of why this anime hasn't been bigger in the US. And possibly set a new record for longest Play Comics episode title. I'm too lazy to actually go check on that one though, it just feels right. Learn such things as: Can a story be good if you already know where it's going? Does it really matter who characters are in a fighting game? What's the best way to experience Fist of the North Star? And so much more! You can find Andrew on Facebook @Popanimecomics, the Popanimecomics website, the Popanimecomics Lounge podcast, Popanimecomics on YouTube. It's a thing we've all seen before. Post apocalyptic worlds and the groups who rise to power in which to rule them. And it's something I'll never really get tired of because all that really means is that you have a fairly familiar stepping stone into a story that can truly go anywhere. That's what we have here in Scout's Honor (published by those AfterShock dudes who are trying to take all my money by doing silly things like printing good comics and getting creators who are cool people) and why I'm spending this episode talking to writer David Pepose. Listen in as I talk to David about how this wonderful book came to be and what drives him to write the way he does. Learn such things as: What has us drawn to this type of dystopian story? What significant fact did Chris miss while reading this one? Why might I never buy Scout Popcorn every again? What to tell your local comic ship if you want to preorder #2 (DEC201133) or #3 (JAN211049) And so much more! Comics have such a long history that there's no way anybody can know everything about every character. M.O.D.O.K. is that way for me. I have an idea of who this giant killing organism is but only because he's happened to be in other things. Good thing I have Jordan Blum, one of the writers on the current mini-series M.O.D.O.K Head Games, on to let me know how much fun this series is (he's right) and how it's OK that I really don't know much going into reading this or watching the TV show due out later this year. Learn such things as: What was Jordan's real reason for making the upcoming M.O.D.O.K. show? How much trouble is Jordan going to get into with Marvel editor Jordan D White? What did I do to make Jordan sad? And so much more! Full disclosure, Mike (not Blind Mike) says quite possibly the worst joke ever said out loud in the history of time. Craig also gets a new gig producing for Blind Mike and The Blind Mike Project. Mike's joke was truly atrocious, it will induce nausea. We also talk hardcore kid Ryan Gosling, Nancy Pelosi's bubs, a woman stuck in a shipping crate from 2017, and Kirk Minihane thinks Craig is an asshole and he sucks. We can't stress enough how truly terrible Mike's joke was.
