We continue our Camp Cinema season in our seventh episode covering The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and Barbarella (1968)Special Guest: Manish Mathur, host of the It Pod to Be You, covering romantic comedies from classics to modern hits and everything in between.French director Jacques Demy embarked on an ambitious project to create a film in which every line was sung. What initially appeared as a gimmicky opera about everyday life evolved into one of the most acclaimed musicals of all time. The film is imbued with vivid color and adorned with enchanting songs, showcasing Demy's profound appreciation for artifice, a hallmark of camp cinema. In stark contrast to Demy's refined sensibility stands Roger Vadim's audacious science fiction film, Barbarella (1968). Infamous for the wrong reasons, the film features Jane Fonda in the lead role, navigating an incoherent narrative inspired by a French erotic comic. Here, the camp is strikingly naïve, and the collective artistic intentions remain enigmatic and elusive.
There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman. No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender. With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank! This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight. From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned. Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening.A HISTORIC episode this month on the Batman by the Numbers Podcast. As has been discussed many times, director Christopher Nolan is one of the most important figures when it comes to Batman history, revitalizing the character to new heights back in 2005. In 2008, he directed what almost everyone considers to be the greatest Batman movie ever made in The Dark Knight. With Christopher Nolan winning his first Academy Award just a few weeks ago, we decide to pay tribute to one of the greatest directors there is, as we embark on an Interstellar like journey of ranking every single Nolan movie! From his humble beginnings with Following to the epic Best Picture winning Oppenheimer, no totem will be left unspun. Daniel is joined per usual by Podcasting Director, Alex Marcus, and making his return to the Batman by the Numbers podcast where he was last heard on the epic trailer ranking episode is DJ Chapman of the Roses and Rejection podcast. Also rounding out the panel, and making his debut on the podcast, is massive Nolan fan and host of It Pod to Be You, Manish Mathur. These four Nolan scholars go down the rankings from worst to best, with each movie getting a lively discussion. There are debates. There are disagreements. There are surprises. Strap in, it's a long one, but with 12 movies to cover, and one of the most impressive film resumes out there, did you expect anything less? Is there a contentious Tenet debate? How did fan favorites Memento and The Prestige fare? How did the Batman movies do? Will Interstellar get its due? And most important of all, what Nolan movie finished #1? If you're a Christopher Nolan fan (and who isn't?), this is required listening, as every Nolan theme imaginable is dissected and discussed in all these movies (FULL SPOILERS). What are you waiting for? Cue the Hans Zimmer BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG, and let the Nolan countdown begin!!

Hello, romantics! It's the start of a new miniseries! We're tackling sports romances on It Pod to Be You. And what better way to start than John G. Avildsen's Oscar winner Rocky! The 1976 film is a stone-cold classic, one of the most influential movies of its era. Your host Manish (@verigay314) welcomes back Alisa Rivera (@bollywoodnewbie) for this special movie. Both a gritty rags to riches tale and a tender love story, the film is massively entertaining to this day. Starring Talia Shire and Sylvester Stallone, Rocky is hard to beat!

You know that cliche about being in a crowded room but still feeling all alone? Sometimes I think the person that came up with that imagery was talking about being on a dancefloor in a gay bar. Cause, yeah, there's so much to celebrate there - a room full of people who get to be themselves for the evening. But, there can also be a feeling of disconnect or outsider-ness... And, even though that's probably all inside your head, it's still a very real feeling in the moment. I got to explore this, and other things, in this week's chat with Manish Mathur, who is the host of 'It Pod To Be You' a movie review podcast that is all about romantic films! We got together to talk about the New York bar Rush, and along the way we chat about the perils or appearing straight, narrow-minded gay men, and what it feels like to always be the fifth wheel! Do you have any memories of Rush, or clubbing from your own scene that you want to share? Well, if you have please get in touch - I want to create the biggest online record of people's memories and stories - go to www.lostspacespodcast.com and find the section 'Share a Lost Space' and tell me what you got up to! This week on Good Bye to All That, The Pop Break's Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by Talk Film Society's Manish Mathur, host of It Pod to Be You to discuss the first half of the second and final season of Netflix's Firefly Lane, based on the novel by Kristin Hannah. Together, they heap praise on this series' talented leading ladies, Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, stick up for Lisa Karen, empathize with Cloud, finally find something to like about Mara, defend Tully in every decade, and wonder if the show stacked the deck against Kate this season or if we were supposed to find her as frustrating as we did. Hello BLHHiP heads, this is your intrepid host George reporting from vacation on M Night Shyamalan's The Beach that makes you old. There's no way for me to edit out here, and also I don't feel like it! So while I take an a short break, please enjoy this great episode of It Pod to Be You, where former guest Manish Mathur invited me on to talk about the 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. You probably saw this in high school and maybe you hated it, but I promise its good if it isn't forced on you! Give this episode a listen and maybe give the movie another chance if that sounds like you! I'll be back next week assuming I don't die of old age on the beach!
We are joined by Manish Mathur fom the It Pod to Be You podcast to talk about the sweeping historical melodrama SENSO, which comes courtesy of Luchino Visconti, one of the most fascinating Italian directors. In this tale of doomed romance set during the time of Italian unification, a Venetian Countess falls in love with an (enemy) Austrian officer. It's grand, sweeping, operatic - it's cinema! The A.O. Manish Mathur brought gleeful enthusiasm to our discussion of this infamous flop and caused me to think about this film in a different light. We had a lot of fun talking about some of the more extravagant aspects of the production, the times where it seemed like Liz and Dick were bored and the downfall of the Biblical Epic genre. He also shared his appreciation of some of the most famous actresses of the 1960s and Liz herself received a mention.
