Starting off the episode with an embarrassing story time; yes, it's been weeks and I'm still not over it. Also, do you guys think I should send the NFL an invoice for ruining my birthday weekend? Let me know. This week we're discussing John Battaglia, a convicted murderer executed by the state of Texas for filicide in 2018. Just an awful story, devastating. This prompted Texas Senate Bill 1408 (SB 140), passed by the Seventy-Seventh Texas Legislature. The bill had two main purposes: (1) to give direction to judges "regarding the appointment of sole custody in family violence cases," and (2) to change the way Texas courts handle visitation when a parent has a history of domestic violence. Here we go.. have your tissues ready for this one. | https://www.thehotline.org/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=domestic_violence | https://www.justice.gov/ovw/domestic-violence | https://www.justice.gov/ovw/domestic-violence | https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5282617/ | https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Battaglia | https://www.texastribune.org/2018/02/01/dallas-man-who-killed-his-daughters-set-again-execution/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/suspectpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/suspectpodcast/support

We look ahead to a really busy weekend of racing from around the country. Jason talks about the big cards at Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita as well as the John Battaglia at Turfway and the Gotham at Aqueduct.
John Battaglia was born on August 2, 1955 and due to his military family, he ended up moving across the United States several times during his childhood. Later in life John moved to Highland Park, Texas where he met his second wife, Mary Pearle. Unfortunately for Mary, it was only after they had two daughters together that she found out exactly why John had already gotten divorced one time. John had a history of inflicting physical and mental abuse, and had previously sent his ex-wife to the hospital.
This week Deanna talks about the disgusting revenge murder of Faith and Liberty Battaglia at the hands of their father John Battaglia (starts at (8:30)) and Candice tells us about the most shocking horror house there is, McKamey Manor (starts at (30:00)) At the end, we play our made up game of fact or fiction! John wasted five years of his life on a get rich quick scheme, and when that failed so did his marriage... yet again by his own hand. This time he wasn't going to be the one on the losing end of things like he had been with Michelle, this time Mary Jean would pay for embarrassing John, she would pay for being smug, and she would pay for constantly trying to put her in jail. He would take from her the two things she treasured more than her own life... their daughters. 19 minutes is all it will take to be convicted of capital murder charges in the state known for having an express lane to the death chamber. You will not be let down with this latest episode! We bring you all kinds of chit chat this time around; a history lesson, food (I mean of course!), murder, some great information, you name it we probably talked about it. Veronica gives us the horrible story of former Marine, John Battaglia Jr. This is a trigger warning if you do not like stories involving kids. Listener discretion is advised. Michelle has fought hard and it's almost time to cut John out of her life, but John is like aggressive cancer. He keeps popping back up each time she thinks he's gone for good. It will take her moving a state away and the good looks of Mary Jean Pearle to finally silence John. But John needs to make sure she learns her lesson, the lesson he had eight days to conjure up. John is far from tormenting the woman in his life, it's the only thing that makes him feel powerful... TRIGGER WARNING: This episode talks of domestic violence, please proceed with caution! What happens when the man you marry, the man that father's your children does the unthinkable? Michelle Ward Ghetti couldn't imagine the monster that lay in the pit of darkness within her new husband John. He had shown her a glimpse at who he would become and she wanted no part of that but when the pregnancy stick turned blue she was left with a decision; shame her family and have the child out of wedlock or marry the man that was capable of completely terrifying her? John Battaglia was never capable of becoming a loving husband and father, he was raised in an abusive household. Losing his mother to suicide emotionally stunted John and the only living role model taught him to put his wife in her place by any means necessary. The desire to win over a father left John insecure and mentally unstable. Anything deemed an embarrassment needed to be fixed so the father he tried to impress wouldn't shame him for it. John had no idea what it took to have a wife and family and he certainly had no idea how to handle the mental disorder he most definitely had... John Battaglia was a handsome, charming and well-educated accountant living in downtown Dallas Texas. Though viewed by friends and colleagues as a loving, doting father to his daughters, John had a much darker side. In May 2001, newly divorced from his second wife Mary Jean Pearle, he would unleash that dark side in an ultimate and fatal act of revenge.SHE'S BIRDIE Safety Alarm: The personal safety alarm made for women, by women.Code CRIMESHACK15 for 15% off your purchaseHunt A Killer: Immersive Murder Mystery GameCode CRIMESHACK20 for 20% off your First Subscription Box Invisawear Safety Jewelry: The 'smart' jewelry that could save your life! John Battaglia Jr. was a handsome Marine veteran who used his looks and his charm to sweet talk women in his life. But there was a secret inside that he unleashed as soon as his wives were “trapped” in marriage with this monster. His first wife, Michelle Ward, a highly educated lawyer, suffered domestic abuse at his hands, while his second wife, Mary Jeane, a wealthy woman suffered both emotional and then later physical abuse at his hands. John terrorized his estranged wives and then his ex-wives, but the real terror wouldn’t be against his unlucky ex-wives, his revenge would be against the most innocent of innocent. Dig in with Margot as she discusses John Battaglia Jr.’s reign of terror on his family. Warning: This episode contains issues of domestic violence and violence against children. Mary Jean Pearle and John Battaglia's marriage seemed picture perfect from the outside. With their two young daughters, Faith and Liberty, they made their home in a wealthy Dallas suburb. John was handsome, charming, and successful - but behind his mask of normality lay a vicious, violent abuser who'd brutally beaten his first wife - and who made Mary Jean the new target of his irrational rages. After nine hellish years, she divorced Battaglia. 'I Never Thought He'd Hurt The Children...' On Christmas Day, 1999, during a court-ordered family visit, he attacked her in front of their daughters. For the next two years, he threatened, harassed and stalked her. Mary Jean feared for her life, but not for the lives of the children, with whom Battaglia was never anything less than caring, loving, and gentle. But in spring, 2001, when Faith and Liberty were visiting their father, Mary Jean received a message to call her daughters. Helpless, horrified, she heard her older daughter's pleading cries. Then came the sound of gunshots - followed by silence. What evil impulses had driven a seemingly devoted father the ultimate act of violence and Betrayal...and how would justice be served?
