Today also marks the release of my 25th episode, another wonderful milestone, and while I will certainly miss discussing each of my weekly topics with you, I also know how important it is for all of us to take scheduled breaks so we can rest, relax, and recharge. Although, I will say that before I take a full break, I'll also be finishing up another project that I've already been working on! So, in today's episode, I share more about that, as well as three things I hope you'll take some time out to do this summer as well. So, no matter how strong and confident we may have been taught to be…or how strong and confident we may believe we are, the fact of the matter is, we are still human. Which means that, every now and then, we will experience times in our lives when our faith in God, our belief in ourselves, and our belief in what we're trying to accomplish may not be as solid as it should be. But that's okay…because the good news is that whenever we doubt ourselves, second-guess what God has clearly told us to do, or to some degree, even lose our faith in almost everything, we can still make the decision to never give up. We can take a step back, go into prayer, rebuild our faith, and then continue pushing forward. In today's episode, I share why we must believe, keep our faith strong, and never give up. Before the year 2014, no one could have told me that I would begin suffering with anxiety or that I would eventually begin having anxiety attacks—one of which became a panic attack that sent me to the emergency room. But here's the thing: not only would I have never believed this would happen to me…in all honesty, I had no idea how debilitating anxiety episodes could actually be. I had, of course, read about them and heard about them from others, but it never dawned on me that anxiety could affect anyone's mental and physical well-being in such a noticeable way. Because even when I first began having early symptoms, such as nervousness in my chest, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and chronic insomnia, I still never thought I was dealing with anxiety. Instead, I just thought my symptoms were a direct result of the way-too-busy writing and event traveling schedule I kept myself on pretty regularly. And yes, while doing way too much all the time was definitely causing my symptoms, it wasn't until I began feeling many of those symptoms, all at once and during the middle of the day, that I knew something was wrong. In today's episode, I share my personal experience with anxiety and discuss just how real it actually is. So, here's the thing. Whether we believe we're good enough or not, personally or professionally, we are who we are. We are the individual women whom God created us to be, and what I can also promise you is that He never, ever makes any mistakes. Which means that, right now, at this very moment, you have everything you need to become the absolute best you can be in all areas of your life. And what it also means is that you don't have to do anything the way you see someone else doing it in order to find success. Instead, all you have to do is be you. In today's episode, I discuss the importance of being your authentic self, no matter what. So, if you've had a chance to read my book, The Woman God Created You to Be, then you know about the long-time struggle I once had when it came to forgiving others. And you also know that, at one point, I became lax with praying, reading my Bible, and with making God a priority in my life as a whole. And what that meant, was that during those particular times in my life, I didn't have a true relationship with God. I mean, I did love him, and I honored him in certain ways, but when it came to doing some things that I knew weren't right, I didn't much focus on any scriptures that related to those areas I knew I needed to become better in. And worse, what this also meant was that I tended to focus much more on God on Sundays, the day most of us attend church service. What I had become was the kind of Christian who didn't try to have as much of a relationship with God during the other six days of the week—sadly, I had become a lukewarm Christian. This is a term I learned from my grandmother when I was a child, and sometimes, she would even say that folks were straddle the fence, meaning they wanted to be both a Christian and be someone who didn't live in a Christian-like way. In today's episode, I share some of my personal experiences, and how you can have a much more solid relationship with God. You have, of course, heard that old cliché a thousand times…you know the one that says, “Age is just a number?” But here's the thing…that old cliché is still so absolutely true. Because age really is just a number, and no matter how old you get, your age shouldn't stop you from doing any of the amazing things you've been wanting to do. It shouldn't stop you from changing careers, getting that new hairstyle you can't stop thinking about, or from buying or building your dream home…if that is, in fact, what you have always wanted to do. In today's episode, I discuss why it's never too late to live out your dreams, and why you should begin focusing on yours as soon as possible. So, here's the thing. It really is important for us to carve out some “me time” on a pretty regular basis. Why? Because for the most part…we tend to place ourselves last on our to-do lists. Or worse, we don't even include ourselves or our own wants and desires on the list at all. We simply focus on everyone we care about, and what their needs are, and we spend lots of time focusing on our jobs, careers, ministries, and other responsibilities. Sometimes we do it because that's all we've ever done, and sometimes we do it because somewhere along the way, we decided that making ourselves a priority on any given day of the week would also mean that we're being selfish. But what I'm here to tell you is that this philosophy couldn't' be further from the truth because, ladies, when we don't take care of ourselves, we eventually become overwhelmed, exhausted, frustrated, and yes, we even become resentful. In today's episode, I discuss why you should make self-care and “me time” a top priority in your life. So, one of the things I am most grateful about is the fact that my mom and maternal grandparents taught me how to pray at a very young age. Because even though when I was in my late teen years, as well as in my twenties, I sometimes became a little lax with my prayer life, well, being taught to pray as a little girl is still what gave me a permanent foundation for the prayer life I have today. It is the reason I pray and talk to God about everything, and it is also the reason I believe that when all else fails, praying without ceasing is what will always help us in the end. In today's episode, I describe my daily prayer life and share three recommendations that I hope will help you in yours. It was many years ago when my mom began telling me that for everything bad, something good comes out of it, and even in the worst of times, I have never seen her proven wrong. This is also the reason I share this sentiment with anyone who might be troubled or hurting about anything, hoping they will stay encouraged and know that, at some point, things will in fact get better. Of course, I will say, though, that doing this is much easier said than done because when my mom became terminally ill and passed away, it was a good while before I could even consider the idea of thinking on the positive side about much of anything. I also couldn't see where any possible good could come out of losing the woman who meant everything to me. I couldn't understand why my brothers and I had to lose our dear mom when she was only fifty-seven years old, and needless to say, there were times when I was so hurt and I became so angry that, ultimately, I became angry with God for allowing any of it to happen. I was so heartbroken and devastated, and worse, there was a period of time when I just didn't want to go on. In today's episode, I share three things you can do when bad things happen to you or someone you care about. As women, we sometimes ask ourselves if we're good enough. Now, of course, it is true that most of us do know that God has certainly designed each of us to be more than good enough. But nonetheless, many of us will still ask ourselves if we're a good enough wife, a good enough mother, a good enough friend, or even a good enough business owner, employee, or ministry leader. Because for whatever reason, it is human nature for us to second-guess ourselves about one thing or another. It's normal for us to wonder whether we truly have what it takes to be successful in either our personal lives or in our professional arenas…or in both. But here's the thing, God doesn't create average people. He also wouldn't place any passion in your heart that you're not capable of doing. Because even if you have no experience with what you believe you have a passion for, what I will tell you is this: If God has truly called you to do something, He will give you everything you need to be successful with it. He will give you the ability, as well as all the wisdom and knowledge required, without fail. In today's episode, I share why we are more than enough and why we should boldly walk in our purpose. So, I have always believed that, as women, we have an obligation to uphold and protect our reputations. As girls, most of us were taught to have respect for ourselves so that others would respect us in return, and to me, this tradition and way of thinking should continue well into adulthood. Meaning, we should also show great respect for everyone around us, both personally and professionally, and we should safeguard the brands and platforms God has given us. But sadly, this doesn't always happen—virtually or in person—but as of late, this has become much more noticeable than ever before on social media. Which is the reason I'm just going to go ahead and state what most of us already know: When it comes to creating a social media presence for ourselves, our purpose, and our businesses, there is a right and a wrong way to do it…and for the sake of this particular conversation, there is certainly a right and a wrong way to present our brands and platforms. Because let's face it, regardless of whether our purpose requires us to offer products or services, we should always use certain protocol and exhibit the highest level of professionalism—and present ourselves to the masses as true women of God. In today's episode, I talk about your purpose and your business reputation on social media. So, here's the absolute truth: The enemy is a loser, and God wins every single time…in every single situation. Which also means that even when we lose—or at least when we believe we've lost a certain battle or even lost someone we love—in the end, God still wins, one way or another. And the reason He wins is because the enemy is simply no match for Him. Although, I will say, that, no matter how much we know that God is the Ruler of all rulers, and that He can do absolutely anything, what we also have to remember is that the enemy is very real and that his primary goal in life is to destroy us. Which means we can never underestimate him or allow him to catch us at our weakest moments. Because when we do, we offer him an opportunity to take control of our lives. We willingly invite him into our presence, and before we know it, he begins taunting and whispering at us. He quietly and politely attacks us, and soon, we begin making horrible decisions. In today's episode, I share three things you can do to prevent this from happening. As a published writer, I have made it a point to handle my business with as much integrity, decency, and diplomacy as possible. Of course, there have certainly been times when I have had to stand up for myself and when I have shared my thoughts and opinions about things I don't like as they relate to my books and events, or when I simply just don't feel something is being handled in the best way possible. But at the same time, no one is ever going to tell you that I have cursed them out in the midst of any of our conversations or that I have hung up on them whenever speaking to them by phone. I do admit, though, that, over the years, I have definitely had some unfortunate debates with folks in business who don't believe you should question anything they're doing wrong or folks who mostly just believe women should know and stay in their places—and that they should just be happy they're in business at all—still, this is not a reason for you or me to act out in a way that doesn't represent God. In today's episode, I share some of my personal experiences and how you, too, can be successful without jeopardizing your faith. About Kimberla:Kimberla is a Christian woman, wife, bonus mom, speaker, and New York Times bestselling author of 28 books, including THE WOMAN GOD CREATED YOU TO BE: Finding Success Through Faith—Spiritually, Personally, and Professionally, which is the companion book for this podcast. So, there is something I have always believed to be true, which is the fact that your childhood really will affect you for the rest of your life…regardless of whether you were blessed to grow up having lots and lots of happy times or if you had more bad times than you care to think about, still…what we experience as children will remain with us from now on. But at the same time, when it comes to those painful, disappointing childhood experiences, we don't have to let them define us. Instead, we can make a decision to move beyond our past and thrive in the present. And the way we can begin doing this is by facing our childhood issues head-on. In today's episode, I share some of my own childhood pain and disappointment, as well as three things you can do if you're struggling in this area, too. In January 1999, when my mom's neurosurgeon and radiologist jointly told her and me that they'd done all they could do for her, I remember feeling as though a knife had sliced my body in two. It was the most painful news I'd ever been told, and at that very moment, I began wondering how I was going to live without her. I wondered why this was happening to my mother, the woman who always went out of her way to do for others…the woman who always had the same smile on her face, even when she became ill. It was way too much and learning that my mom was terminally ill became, by far, the worst and most heartbreaking experience of my life. Which is the reason that even though my mom quickly found peace with her diagnosis and then tried to comfort and console me and prepare me for what was to come, it didn't help much. And worse…for the first time in my life, I became angry with God—something I never believed I would ever do or that I was even capable of doing—and my faith in Him dwindled to an all-time low. I was angry, devastated, and confused because I just couldn't understand why this was happening. In today's episode, I share my own experience with losing faith, how I regained it, and why you should never give up under any circumstances. So, here's the thing…whether you're trying to discover your purpose, start a business or start a women's ministry of some kind—or maybe you simply just have a certain project you need to begin working on. Well, if this is true, then today I am encouraging you to incorporate what I call my 4-P Process. I am encouraging you to Pray, Plan, Practice—and then Proceed. Because no matter what you are preparing to do, these are the four steps you need to take to accomplish your goals. Or at least for me, these are certainly the steps I have taken over the years for many different things. I've done so because executing the 4 Ps is what keeps me focused and organized, which is very important because without structure, we can sometimes become frustrated and confused about what to do first or next even. In today's episode, I share an example of how I've used this process and how you can use it as well. So, I have a question for you. “Do you compare yourself to others?” If so, you are certainly not alone, because unfortunately, comparing ourselves to others is a normal characteristic of human behavior. Still, it's not necessarily a good thing—especially if it causes you to feel less than or not good enough, which is usually what happens more often than not. And in this day of social media, the idea of comparing yourself to others can become even more tempting than usual because as you browse through your various social media timelines, you will sometimes see the people you follow, posting everything from luxury homes to exotic vacations to expensive vehicles to lavish weddings or elegant birthday bashes to so much more. In today's episode, I discuss this very thing, including why we compare ourselves to others and how we can finally stop doing it.About Kimberla:Kimberla is a Christian woman, wife, bonus mom, speaker, and New York Times bestselling author of 28 books, including THE WOMAN GOD CREATED YOU TO BE: Finding Success Through Faith—Spiritually, Personally, and Professionally, which is the companion book for this podcast. The whole idea of not judging others can sometimes be very hard to understand—especially when people continue saying and doing some truly awful things. But as women of God, what we still have to remember—what we still have to keep in mind—whether we want to or not, is this: We don't always know that person's heart or their entire story. We just don't know their complete history. We also don't necessarily know what they've been through in terms of childhood pain, or some other kind of pain or abuse that they may have endured once they became an adult. Or they might even be struggling with mental and emotional issues that haven't been diagnosed or properly treated. Because while none of what I just mentioned justifies bad behavior—nor does it give anyone an automatic pass when it comes to treating others badly, there are times when we may need to think before being so quick to judge or criticize someone or cut them off completely. In today's episode, I discuss The Golden Rule and how important it is to treat others the way we want to be treated. One of the most important things women can do is support other women. This, of course, is something that should happen automatically, but sadly, support from some women can sometimes be nonexistent. I mean, there is no doubt that none of us will ever be able to directly support every single woman alive, but what we can do is celebrate all women in our hearts—whether we know them personally or not. In today's episode I ask you the following questions: Are you your sister's keeper? Are you happy about the success of other women? Or does another woman's success cause you to struggle with feelings of anxiety or jealousy? Is it hard for you to compliment or congratulate another woman? I also discuss the true essence of sisterhood, and I share three things you can do to help you become even more supportive than you already are. When I was in my twenties, my mom told me that not everyone wishes you well. But while I certainly understood what she was saying, and I appreciated her wisdom, it wasn't until years later, in my early thirties, that I began experiencing what she'd tried to prepare me for. I mean, it is true that I may have slightly experienced it a bit earlier, but when I began writing my first book and telling a few people about it, that's when I discovered that not everyone was happy about my new endeavors. I remember being so excited about becoming a writer and about the idea of potentially being published, but after I began sharing my news with certain folks, I quickly realized how much of a mistake I was making by telling them at all. So how about you? Can you relate to any of this? In today's episode, I talk about how I learned to accept the fact that not everyone can be happy for us, and I offer three things you can do to accept this truth as well…and still accomplish everything God has given you the desire and ability to do. Being afraid is a feeling I know all too well because while in 1995, I did have the confidence to begin writing my first book, and I finished it by the end of that year, I was still rejected by every single literary agent I submitted my work to. I received one rejection letter after another, and soon, I became both disappointed and discouraged. Then when I took a chance on submitting my work directly to editors at publishing houses (even though I knew they didn't prefer receiving unagented or unsolicited manuscripts), I was rejected by each of them as well. After that, I decided to give up because I feared that if I continued trying, I would receive even more rejection letters than I already had. Then, if that weren't already enough, I became more fearful than ever when my husband suggested that I start my own business so I could publish the book myself. So in today's episode, I talk about fear and how, not only will it cripple us, but it will also prevent us from doing all the amazing things God has given us to do. I share why we should simply just do it afraid! There is no denying that 2020 has been one of the toughest and most trying years you and I have ever experienced. But what I also know is that God is still God, and that I will continue to trust Him and keep my faith strong through all of it. I'm doing this because as much as it may not seem like it right now…this too shall pass. Things will get better and when they do…we need to be ready. Which means it is now time, more than ever before, to ask yourself if you truly and wholeheartedly know your purpose. Because if you do, then it's time for you to fully begin walking in it, and if you don't…it's time for you to make discovering it one of your top priorities in 2021. In today's episode, I share how it was many years before I truly knew what my own purpose was, how I finally discovered it…and how you can, too. As I sit remembering the reason for this holiday season and also thinking about how tough our current year has been, I am still so truly grateful to have yet one more opportunity to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Because no matter what…we all have a lot to be thankful for. We've also been given quite a bit of time this year to reflect, refocus, and recognize what's truly important…and what's not important at all. This is also one of the reasons why today, I want to ask you the following two questions: 1) Do you need to forgive someone? 2) If the person you need to forgive passed away today, would you be able to live with that? In this episode, I'll be sharing about my own past struggles with forgiveness, along with three things you can do to begin forgiving others as soon as possible. So, my question for you today is…are you suffering in silence, mentally and emotionally? There is no doubt that many, many people are suffering in silence because of our unfortunate pandemic, but I'm also asking this question because for years, I suffered in silence on such a private level that not even my husband, the rest of my family, or my dearest friends had any idea I was feeling the way I was. Why? Because I was very good about smiling and saying how fine I was. Can you relate? Has this been your story for a while? In this episode, I'll be sharing my own personal experience, as well as three things you can begin doing now to become better. ARE YOU THE REAL WOMAN GOD CREATED YOU TO BE? HAVE YOU WANTED TO BECOME HER— SPIRITUALLY, PERSONALLY, and PROFESSIONALLY? Kimberla Lawson Roby admits that for years, she wasn’t being the real woman God created her to be. From experiencing divorce to marrying her soulmate of twenty-nine years…from hopelessly searching for the perfect job to becoming a New York Times bestselling author…from suffering in silence with anxiety to concentrating on self-care…from struggling with the loss of her mom to finding strength, comfort, peace. and understanding—Kimberla takes you on a journey that will help you do the following: ● Become the Best Spiritual You (Seven Days Per Week) ● Become the Best Personal You (Mentally, Emotionally, and Physically) ● Become the Best Professional You (Without Jeopardizing Your Faith) Kimberla reminds us that when we trust and depend on God—heart, mind, and soul—He will empower us to do more than we ever thought imaginable. He will help us see that we are more than enough, and that He has already given us everything we need to become the women He created us to be—spiritually, personally, professionally…and beyond. Kimberla’s books have frequented numerous bestseller lists, including The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, ESSENCE, and Publishers Weekly magazines, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Walmart and many others.
