Cortisol after cancer is the conversation nobody on my care team had with me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 — invasive ductal carcinoma, stage one, grade two. I went through lumpectomy, radiation, ovarian suppression, and two years on an aromatase inhibitor before I had to come off because my bones were already in osteoporosis. Throughout all of it, my nervous system was screaming. My cortisol was running hot all day long, confirmed by a Dutch test. And not one doctor told me what stress was doing to my body or how to mitigate it. In this solo episode of Not Today Cancer, I'm walking you through the seven activities that lowered my cortisol...broken into the things that don't cost a dime (meditation, breathwork, walking outside, unplugging) and the things that do (acupuncture, energy healing, therapy). I'm also sharing the actual research behind each one, so you know this isn't woo...it's documented science. What you'll learn: • Why cortisol is wrecked after a cancer diagnosis (and why mine was high long before) • The symptoms of high cortisol most breast cancer survivors miss • How mindfulness meditation protected the cortisol rhythm of breast cancer survivors in a randomized controlled trial • Why a single session of slow breathing drops cortisol immediately • The "nature pill" research showing 20–30 minutes outside lowers cortisol 21% per hour • Why the NCCN officially recommends acupuncture for cancer survivors If you're a breast cancer survivor, caregiver, or anyone whose body has been running on fumes...this episode is for you. We don't get the option of not mitigating stress. Pick one thing on this list and start tomorrow. Disclaimer: This episode reflects my personal experience and a summary of public research. It is not medical advice. Always consult your care team.
Thanks to our autonomic nervous system, life-sustaining processes like our heartbeat, digestion, and breathing all happen without us even having to pay attention. But our environments, stress levels, and other factors can definitely affect the health and efficiency of these processes. For example, sitting hunched at our desks and staring at screens often means that our breathing gets shallow and irregular—which of course affects things like focus, energy, cognition, and attention. This week, Shamash Alidina leads a guided breathing exercise called Light, Slow, and Deep (or LSD), designed to re-set the breath in a way that opens the chest, relaxes tension, and calms the nervous system. Shamash Alidina has been practising mindfulness since 1998 and runs his own successful training organisation. He is the author of Mindfulness For Dummies, The Mindful Way Through Stress, and most recently, Breathing Exercises for Dummies. He frequently pops up in newspapers, magazines and on radio shows. Based in London, he runs online trainings and speaks at conferences all over the world. He's been teaching mindfulness full-time since 2010. The transcription of this guided meditation will be online and in our app at Mindful.org next week. Stay curious, stay inspired. Is your breath balanced? You may think so, but often the inhale can be longer than the exhale, or vice versa. If you are giving too much of yourself, your body may be taking long inhales to make up for it. In today's episode, Rachel will guide you through a breathing exercise to find balance. As your inhales and exhales match up, you may be surprised how grounded you feel afterward. Tune in to begin. In this episode of Compared to Who?, Heather Creekmore invites listeners to take a deeply-needed exhale from the relentless messages around body image and self-worth that the world sends our way. Building on the "Waiting for Weight Loss" series, Heather opens up about her own struggles with feeling valuable through fitness and body changes, and the letdown that follows when external goals don’t bring the internal peace we’re promised. Heather dives into the concept of "monetized insecurity"—the way industries profit from our feelings of inadequacy—and breaks down why finding your worth in God, not in weight loss or body perfection, is the only path that leads to real security and rest. You’ll walk away with: Practical breathwork exercises for grounding and relaxation A guided prayer for internalizing your true value An honest look at cultural lies vs. God’s unchanging truth about your worth Reflective questions to revisit whenever you need a reminder that you are already loved, worthy, and enough Key Question: Whose message is easier for you to believe: monetized insecurity or God's message of worth beyond what you measure? A warm welcome to this advanced & extended 4-7-8 breathing session, designed to help you find deep relaxation, and completely calm your mind and body, ready for a well deserved rest. The music will continue at the end, allowing you to fall asleep if you wish. There is also a beginner version available on my channel, and a version that is more of a middle ground between beginner and advanced. 4-7-8 breathing can be used as a natural sleep aid, calming down the entire body and nervous system, and it can also be used in the daytime to help find clarity and focus. This version is probably better suited to deep relaxation and sleep. A warm welcome to this 4-7-8 breathing session, designed to help you find deep relaxation, and increase lung capacity. 4-7-8 breathing can be used as a natural sleep aid, calming down the entire body and nervous system, and it can also be used in the daytime to help find clarity and focus. NOTE: For this video, the 4-7-8 counting does not follow exact seconds, and the pace is a tiny bit quicker, to hopefully avoid you feeling overwhelmed by the exercise. In the future I hope to create a version that perhaps slows down as it goes on, allowing for even deeper breathing, and deeper relaxation. If that is something that appeals, please do let me know! There's something powerful that happens when we choose to do the hard things—not because we have to, but because we know that's where growth lives. In this episode, we talk about the science and soul of resilience: how doing what's uncomfortable actually rewires our brains, strengthens our relationships, and expands what's possible in our lives. We're not talking about hustle or burnout—we're talking about conscious courage. The kind that builds self-trust, deepens love, and reminds us that we can do hard things—and come out stronger, more alive, and more connected. Let's go there. Together.

From painful sex to urinary leakage, painful orgasms to constipation—these aren't just "normal parts of aging" that you have to accept. Dr. Sara breaks down: - Why most women don't even know what their pelvic floor is (and why that's a problem) - The shocking connection between trauma and pelvic floor dysfunction - Why you should NEVER push when you pee (and how it's weakening your pelvic floor) / How breathing exercises can literally heal your vagina - The truth about painful periods and what they're really telling you - Why Kegels aren't the answer for everyone (and what to do instead) - How menopause affects your pelvic floor and what you can do about it This conversation will change how you think about your body. Whether you're dealing with pain, leakage, or just want to understand this crucial part of your anatomy, this episode gives you the knowledge and tools to reclaim your pelvic health at any age. Your pelvic floor affects everything; from your mood to your confidence to your relationships. It's time to stop suffering in silence. #pelvicfloor #womenshealth #wellness ==== Thank You To Our Sponsors! Visit cornbreadhemp.com/drg and use code DRG to get 30% off your first order. Co-Host Raj Khedun (https://mountaintoppodcast.com/raj) My first time guest Raj Khedun is one of the few and the proud who has turned his philosophy degree into a viable living. He's done that by helping men harness the power of their breathing. Now, before you dismiss this as yet another attempt to get guys to do yoga, hear Raj out. You see, too many of us as men let ourselves get all worked up over the little things in life--and can't seem to find our 'off' switch for the stress we compile--when our masculine edge is found in those moments we keep our cool even when the chips are down for real. So just to get it out of the way, Raj isn't gonna make you wear spandex and do lotus poses, dude. What he is all about, however, is introducing what he calls his 3:3 Metaverse Method to get your breathing to work for you instead of against you. As you know, I don't do a whole lot of shows on this sort of thing. But Raj is indeed on to something. We do his exercise live on the show, and although it made for a weird couple minutes of audio, I can vouch for its immediate impact. According to Raj, controlling our breathing can obviate the need for some of the meds we take, help insomnia, and yes...improve our interactions with women. How? Well, for starters it enables that elusive 'flow state' that men's dating advice has sought after dating back to the PUA era. The breathing exercise could also theoretically help you get in state before approaching women at the grocery store, or even when a woman comes over your place for the first time. Remember also, that your state affects that of the woman you love and even your kids. The possibilities are only limited by the number of instances you want to gain control over your thoughts and emotions. In this powerful conversation, Dr. G is joined by renowned bioenergetics expert Dr. Sue Morter to explore the missing link in modern medicine: energy. Together, they break down how disruptions in energetic flow—often caused by subconscious blocks, unresolved trauma, and negative self-perception—can manifest as physical and mental illness. Dr. Morter shares her groundbreaking approach to healing, offering practical techniques like slow belly breathing and her signature “object-subject” energy exercise. These tools help listeners rewire their internal energy systems, reclaim personal power, and activate the body's natural self-healing capabilities. The episode also dives into the role of childhood trauma, epigenetics, and the mind-body connection in the development of chronic disease, including cancer. Dr. G and Dr. Morter emphasize the importance of self-awareness, authenticity, and cultivating a positive internal environment to support lifelong health. #wellness #mentalhealth #healing Episode Resources: https://drsuemorter.com Free Extravaganza happening on April 26 https://nt113.isrefer.com/go/HYHYLExtra/Healthyself/ Heal Your Self Page https://nt113.isrefer.com/go/HYHYL/Healthyself/ ==== Thank You To Our Sponsors! Today's meditation explores the question: What is enough? This is one of the core questions that drove me to create this podcast. So many of us in the financial independence retire early community are trying to grow our wealth so we can reach some arbitrary number, assuming that once we get there, we will achieve freedom and everything will change. But the question is, what is enough? So often, when people reach their desired number, they think they need more or just a little more time, what's often called "one more year" syndrome.Today we explore this question of what is enough in a meditation, where we practice allowing each breath to be enough, just as it is.I hope you enjoy this meditation.
