Produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Superman & Lois is the superhero television series based on the DC Comics characters Superman and Lois Lane. Luke and Jason check in on the fourth and final season of this CW series which stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the titular characters. Clark and Lois continue to deal with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society. Following the fallout of the battle with Doomsday, the Kents, Smallville, and the world are forever changed as Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) continues to close in with his master plan.
WARNING: Do not listen to this episode unless you have seen the 2024 Warner Bros./DC Comics/CW release "Superman & Lois" or do not mind hearing key plot points. Superman & Lois recently completed its 4th season on the CW Network. The network had been sold, and the producers were given a 10-episode order for a final season with a reduced cast, smaller budget, and limited resources. Still, the series finished strong, with a storyline involving Doomsday and arch-villain Lex Luthor, played by my Michael Cudlitz. Superman & Lois starred Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman and Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane. Showrunner Todd Helbing was joined by writing partner Brent Fletcher in helming the final season. Helbing joined the podcast towards the beginning of the series' run (Episode 267). In this episode, Helbing laments the outpouring of praise for the series finale. He discusses the challenges of doing the entire series, especially discussing the budget limitations for Season 4. Helbing also gave insight as to the casting of Cudlitz as Lex Luthor, and the incredible performances of Tulloch, and Hoechlin, as well as Kent twins Alex Garfin and Michael Bishop. Bishop replaced actor Jordan Elsass in Season 3. Helbing also went in-depth in discussing the now iconic final scene of the series finale.
In this episode we discuss the new poster for the new "Superman" movie, the Teaser Trailer coming on Thursday, December 19, "Superman & Lois" Season 4 and the Complete Series on Blu-ray and DVD, this month's Super Secret Sound-Byte contest, your favorite Superman Christmas statues and action figures, and much more.

Starlight So Bright Then Gone This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are reviewing Superman & Lois Season 4 Episode 8, and Cobra Kai (cobra kai, cobra kai, cobra kai) Season VI: Part 2. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Supes & Lolo: 9:23 Cobra Kai: 33:26 Out of 5 That Suit Just Melts Off You Darryl: 4.52/5 Brian: 4.56/5 Episode 8: Sharp Dressed Man Summary: In Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 8, titled “Sharp Dressed Man,” Lex Luthor, portrayed by Michael Cudlitz, reemerges as a calculated and dangerous force, shedding his rugged prison look for a clean-cut, tailored appearance to reinvent his public image. Lex strategically appears on The Godfrey! Show, hosted by Gordon Godfrey (Tom Cavanagh), where he challenges Lois Lane to a live debate. Their confrontation becomes a public spectacle, with Lex using manipulative tactics to undermine Lois while simultaneously orchestrating chaos behind the scenes. His associate, Milton Fine, hacks John Henry and Natalie's supersuits, leading to Superman crashing through Lex's windows during the broadcast, an event Lex exploits to damage Lois and Superman's credibility while elevating his own standing. Directed by Cudlitz himself, the episode solidifies Lex's transformation into a more comic-accurate portrayal, blending themes of public perception, manipulation, and personal vendettas, while setting the stage for the season's climactic conflicts. Overall, “Sharp Dressed Man” delves into themes of public perception, manipulation, and the personal vendettas between Lex Luthor and the Kent family, setting the stage for the series' concluding episodes. Cobra Kai (Netflix) Out of 10 ShItButts Darryl: 7.25/10 Brian: 8.17/10 Season VI – Part 2 Episode 6: “Benvinguts a Barcelona” The teams are welcomed in Barcelona, letting them enjoy the city on their first day while the competition starts the next day. Robby tries to talk to Tory about her decision to rejoin Cobra Kai but has no luck doing so. The Miyagi-Do boys lose their hotel rooms to Kwon and Cobra Kai after losing a bet and are forced to split rooms with the girls. The Miyagi-Do members get upset when they find out that Robby knew Kreese spoke to Tory before her mom died and didn’t tell them. Tory asks Robby for a break; she feels it is for the best since they both need to focus on the competition. Daniel and Johnny try to get along with the other senseis and sponsors, but things get hard when Johnny almost gets into an argument with another guest, Wolf, who turns out to be the sensei of Hong Kong dojo Iron Dragons. Chozen arrives drunk, disappointed after going to Japan to look for Kumiko, as he thinks she is romantically involved with another man and his behavior results in the three of them being thrown out. On the tournament’s first day, four teams are placed on the mat and must protect their captains or else the whole team gets eliminated. Robby gets distracted, causing him to lose to Kwon and Miyagi-Do loses the round. Yoon, Tory, and Kwon face off against the other standing team: the Iron Dragons who have all their six members standing. The two captains Zara and Axel go against the Cobra Kai trio alone and beat them, showing that they are a team that will be feared. Episode 7: “Dog in the Fight” Johnny and Daniel are having issues on how to motivate the team as Miyagi-Do doesn’t do very well in the second event of the tournament, and they need to earn more points to avoid elimination. Daniel gets a message from Serrano, a former Sekai Taikai contestant who claims to know Miyagi, and decides to meet him for answers at the given address; however, he gets captured by some thugs and a former student of Cobra Kai, Dennis de Guzman, forcing him to miss the next event of the tournament, resulting in Johnny having to step up. Tension between Miguel and Robby arise when Miguel tells him he is wasting his opportunity to be captain since his issues with Tory have clearly affected his fights. He tells Robby he should either step up or hand over the captain position. Devon admits to Johnny that she cheated, but he encourages to do her best and promises not to say anything. Miyagi-Do advances to the next round thanks to Miguel’s victory against two fighters from an Irish dojo. However, he and Johnny have to return home when Rosa calls and tells them that Carmen is having complications with her pregnancy and is at the hospital. Episode 8: “Snakes on a Plane” After Miguel’s departure, Johnny asks Amanda to contact Kenny and convince him to replace Miguel. However, Kenny explains to Amanda that he has no interest in being part of the team because he still thinks that Anthony was the one who used the laxatives on him. Miguel and Johnny fight on the plane as he tells Johnny that he didn’t support him in the tournament. Zara gets jealous of the attention that Tory receives from the other contestants and sleeps with Robby after he gets drunk at a bar while Tory witnesses a kiss between them. Amanda has Anthony apologize to Kenny, but it ends in a fight between them. Johnny apologizes to Miguel, and they make amends after the latter hits an annoying passenger. Axel and Sam encounter each other on the beach, and he tries kissing her after an encounter with Yoon and Kwon but leaves disappointed after learning she has a boyfriend. Yasmine dumps Demetri after Hawk calls Moon and inadvertently shows Demetri dancing with a Spanish girl at the bar. To get rid of her guilt, Devon calls Kenny and confesses that she was the one who spiked his drink with laxatives recently. Kenny reconciles with Anthony and accepts the trip to Barcelona. After her steady recovery, Carmen tells Johnny and Miguel to return to Barcelona and win. Chozen and Da-eun have a sexual encounter and, along with Daniel and Kreese, find out that Terry Silver was working with Wolf and Dennis to abduct Daniel. Episode 9: “Blood In Blood Out” Three months prior, Silver is freed of all his charges and meets Wolf in Thailand, promising to pay his debts in exchange for buying Iron Dragons and humiliating Miyagi-Do during the Sekai Taikai. Johnny returns to Barcelona with Miguel and Kenny, who is replacing Devon. She apologizes to Kenny, and they make amends. The other team members distrust Kenny, thinking he is secretly working with Silver, so they don’t tag him in the next group challenge. Silver offers Kenny a spot in his dojo, but he refuses and shows him a middle finger after he helps Miyagi-Do win following Robby tagging him. The team celebrates. In order to mess with Silver, Johnny & Chozen decided to exploit Kreese by putting a spa ticket on his locker at the place of the eunjangdo which has gone missing, causing Kreese to punch Silver. Da-eun accuses Chozen for stealing the eunjangdo, and warns him to give it back or it will complicate everything with Kreese turning against him. Miyagi-Do goes against Cobra Kai on the elimination round, and Tory confronts Robby on his hookup with Zara. He learns Kwon messed with him, making him believe there was something between him and Tory. Robby defeats Kwon, making Miyagi-Do advance to the tournament of champions, while Cobra Kai is eliminated. Silver hands Daniel an envelope, showing that Mr. Miyagi killed his opponent during the Sekai Taikai. After Kreese finds his eunjangdo back in the locker, he states it’s not over until he says so. Episode 10: “Eunjangdo” Daniel is confirmed by Gunther the information Silver handed him is legit, clearly upsetting him.Tensions run high as Cobra Kai prepares to return home after being eliminated, only to receive a second chance when it is revealed the Russian dojo Tiger Strike has been disqualified due to four of its students failing a drug test. The Sekai Taikai tournament of champions, consisting of duels between only the captains of the top four teams (Cobra Kai, Iron Dragons, Miyagi-Do and Furia de Pantera), begins with Axel pitted against Robby and Sam and Tory facing each other. Kwon and Zara win their respective matches against their opponents with Kwon’s decisive knockout earning Cobra Kai special points. However, in the match between Axel and Robby, Robby is pushed by Axel into the Cobra Kai students where Kwon elbows him in the ribs with a cheap shot. As Miguel tries to come to his aid, he is knocked down by Axel, as he finds out Miguel is Sam’s boyfriend, setting everyone on edge. Host Gunther Braun warns all the competitors to get off the mats, only to be knocked unconscious by an enraged Sensei Ivanov of Tiger Strike. This ignites a brawl with all the tournament competitors, where Johnny and Daniel face off against Wolf. Robby faces off against the entirety of the Cobra Kai except for Tory who fights Zara. Miguel and Axel duel, and Sam, after beating the Irish girl captain, helps Robby and Tory dispose of Cobra Kai and Zara respectively. Meanwhile, Kreese goes after Silver with his eunjangdo, but it slips out of his belt during the chaos. Upon discovering this, he fights Silver hand-to-hand. Silver sucker punches Kreese and lands more blows on him, until the latter is saved by Johnny. When Kwon attacks Sam, Axel stops his fight with Miguel and attacks Kwon, throwing him into a camera. Kwon then notices the fallen eunjangdo and grabs it, intending to kill Axel. However, Axel counters his attacks, causing Kwon to fall on the knife, fatally impaling his own chest. As everyone stares in shock, Gunther yells for the feed to be cut. Once a Bizzaro Superman… Always a Bizzaro Superman This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are discussing and reviewing The Penguin episode 6 and Superman & Lois season 4 episode 5. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The Penguin: 3:22 Supes & Lolo: 22:33 The Penguin (Max) Out of 5 It Never Gets Easier Vics Darryl: 4.25/5 Brian: 4.31/5 Episode 6: Gold Summit Summary In episode 6, “Gold Summit,” The Penguin intensifies as Oswald Cobb navigates the high-stakes world of Gotham's criminal underbelly. He attends an influential gathering of crime bosses, each vying for control and power in the city. Amid a web of alliances, betrayals, and shifting loyalties, Cobb must employ his cunning to advance his plans while warding off rival threats. This episode explores deeper layers of Gotham's power dynamics, giving viewers an intricate look at the dark forces shaping the city's fate. Episode Breakdown Arrival at the Gold Summit: Oswald Cobb enters the summit with a guarded confidence, knowing this is his opportunity to prove his capabilities to Gotham's elite. He's aware that each person at the table has the potential to either become an ally or a rival, and he must tread carefully. Conversations and Alliances: Cobb engages in several tense conversations, where allegiances shift and unspoken threats linger in the air. These moments are filled with strategic banter and veiled comments, allowing Cobb to analyze the weaknesses and ambitions of those around him. His skills in reading people and manipulating their intentions become crucial. The Power Play: As tensions escalate, a power struggle erupts. Cobb is forced to react, employing his quick thinking and calculated ruthlessness. This sequence emphasizes how he's not merely surviving in Gotham's criminal landscape but actively shaping it. It's a pivotal moment that reaffirms Cobb's transformation from an underdog to a feared figure. The Aftermath: The episode closes on a tense note, leaving Cobb to evaluate the implications of his actions. He has forged new paths, but his choices come with heightened risks. There's a sense that Cobb's ascent to power will not come without personal costs, both in terms of allies lost and new enemies gained. Themes Ambition and Power: The Gold Summit represents Cobb's ambitions and the lengths he'll go to claim power in Gotham. His willingness to maneuver through treacherous alliances reflects his determination to secure his position. Trust and Betrayal: This episode examines the transient nature of alliances in the world Cobb inhabits. The characters engage in a complex dance of trust and betrayal, constantly reassessing their loyalties in a bid for dominance. Isolation and Identity: Although surrounded by Gotham's elite, Cobb remains an outsider in many ways. The episode subtly explores his sense of isolation, even as he rises in rank. It poses the question of whether he can maintain his identity amid the dark forces he's aligning himself with. Moral Ambiguity: The actions Cobb takes in this episode highlight the morally ambiguous path he's on. It questions whether he can ever truly achieve his ambitions without sacrificing his remaining humanity. Episode 6 delves into the intricate layers of Gotham's criminal ecosystem, framing Cobb's journey as one that demands constant vigilance and moral compromise. This installment reaffirms his complexity as a character caught between survival and ambition, reshaping himself to fit Gotham's unforgiving mold. Superman & Lois (The CW) Out of 5 Doomsday with a Heart of Golds Darryl: 3.65/5 Brian: 4.10/5 Episode 5: Break the Cycle Episode Breakdown In Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 5, titled “Break the Cycle,” the focus is on the escalating conflict between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, who has returned to Metropolis with vengeance on his mind. The episode dives deep into the dynamics of the Luthor family, especially through flashbacks that reveal the complex and often dark relationship between Lex and his daughter, Elizabeth. These scenes offer insight into Lex's past traumas and his motivation, framing him as a more layered character than typical villain portrayals. The episode also sees Lois taking bold steps as she investigates a way to neutralize Doomsday's threat, determined to protect her family. Meanwhile, Clark faces an unsettling revelation regarding his ongoing battles and power limitations. This internal conflict forces him to confront his vulnerabilities, even as he attempts to make peace with Lex in hopes of ending the cycle of violence and retaliation that threatens everyone around him. Themes Cycles of Trauma and Vengeance The title, “Break the Cycle,” hints at a core theme: characters' attempts to escape repetitive, destructive patterns. Lex Luthor's desire for vengeance, fueled by his painful past and feelings of betrayal, embodies this cyclical conflict. His history with his daughter Elizabeth showcases how unresolved trauma can perpetuate harm, not only to oneself but also to loved ones. Clark's confrontation with Lex and the efforts to neutralize Doomsday represent his own efforts to stop the pattern of violence before it impacts his family further. Family Bonds and Protective Instincts Lois's actions in the episode are driven by a protective instinct for her family, especially given the looming danger posed by Doomsday. This theme of family extends to Lex's relationship with Elizabeth, providing a contrast. While Lois's dedication to safeguarding her family is evident, Lex's twisted perception of love and control over Elizabeth reflects a more harmful and possessive approach. The episode examines how different characters interpret “family” and protection, creating tension between love as support and love as dominance. Redemption and Moral Complexity The episode explores the moral nuances of redemption, especially in Lex's character. Flashbacks reveal his complicated history, showing a deeper side that goes beyond his villainous exterior. Lex's struggle with whether or not to let go of his vendetta against Superman offers a look at the complexities of forgiveness and redemption, questioning whether one can truly break free from a dark past. This theme is echoed in Superman's attempt to find common ground with Lex, emphasizing Clark's belief in people's potential for change despite their pasts. Resilience Amid Vulnerability Clark's internal battle with his limitations and vulnerabilities introduces a theme of resilience. Despite physical and emotional challenges, he remains committed to protecting his family and doing what's right. His “vision quest” highlights his struggles and reinforces the idea that resilience often involves facing one's deepest fears and insecurities. Lois's determination to continue her investigation, despite the risks, mirrors Clark's resilience and reinforces the theme that protecting loved ones often requires courage and self-sacrifice.
