In this episode, we do a live review on YouTube of the first film in the new DC Universe, produced by DC Studios and written and directed by James Gunn, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Holt, titled Superman. We discuss whether James Gunn's version of Superman lives up to the traditional ideology of the character, and we debate whether this movie featured too many other superheroes, which may have detracted from the focus on the main lead. “I'm not messing around. I'm doing important stuff.” We watched “Superman” (2025) with our friend and resident Supes expert, Billy Roach, and we welcome our newest Kryptonian overlord. In a growing list of Supermen, David Corenswet has proven himself to be quite possibly the dorkiest entry, and gosh darn it, it's so endearing! We're not going to waste too much time answering the trolls' review bombing this movie - instead, we're going to celebrate what we liked about it. Not the least of which is the chemistry between the leads - Corenswet's Superman and, yes, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. Okay, Rachel Brosnahan is doing some fine work as well, but we're really digging Nicky and Corny's performances as these iconic characters. It's gotta be tough to bring anything new to Superman and Lex Luthor after so many iterations, but these two brought it - and let's be honest, they're not too tough to look at either. Nicky's baby blues are worth the price of admission! We don't forget about this press tour, in which our two boys are publicizing their aforementioned chemistry and landing the crucial disposable income of the gay male moviegoing audience. James Gunn's Superman is finally here—and the Pop Culture Pastor crew is all in. This week, Dave, Cody, and Justin dig deep into the film that reboots the most iconic superhero of all time with big ideas, even bigger emotions, and (surprisingly) one very good dog. We break down the performances (Nicholas Hoult's Lex is definitive), debate the new take on Kal-El's parents, and celebrate the bright, hopeful tone that makes this Superman feel like… well, Superman. David Corenswet's debut in the cape gives us everything we've been missing—sincerity, optimism, and a jawline sculpted by truth, justice, and the American way.We also give our winners and losers of the movie, recast one key role, and tackle the biggest online criticisms: is he too soft? Too political? Too “for kids”? We've got thoughts. And feelings. And fist pumps. So many fist pumps.

We could not wait to bring you this episode!!! Superman, the new film, is written and directed by James Gunn and is the kickoff movie for the new DC Universe media franchise! David Corenswet stars as Superman/Clark Kent, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor along with Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced and others. In the film, Superman must prove to a suspect world that he is a protector after billionaire Lex Luthor enacts a plan to turn public opinion against him. Be forewarned, this episode is COMPLETELY spoileriffic! We all weigh in on what we thought of the movie and, as has become customary for our film-centric episodes, we also offer up our suggestions of collected editions starring the characters from the film - in this case The Man of Steel, Superman: Birthright and Superman: Lost - that we hope you might enjoy! So, hit play and ... LOOK UP!
The James Gunn Era of the new DCU kicks off with Superman, and Earth's Mightiest Critics have a lot to say about it!David Corenswet stars as the latest big-screen incarnation of the Man of Steel in this wacky, rebooted-but-already-established universe. Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) is out to destroy Superman's public image so that he can hatch a nefarious plan involving geopolitical war. Throw in the misfit Justice Gang, Metropolis-munching Kaiju, pocket universes, Internet trolls, and a bizarre twist on Supes' origin story, and you have one of the boldest relaunches in cinema history. But "bold" doesn't necessarily mean "good". And in this week's pugnacious panel, the EMC will duke it out over whether or not Gunn has laid a promising path for future DCU films--or if Superman signals the death knell of not only a franchise, but an entire genre!Join us for a super-scrappy and spoilerific roundtable review of one of summer's most highly anticipated (and divisive) blockbusters!Subscribe, like, and comment on Kicking the Seat here on YouTube, and check us out at:kickseat.comXLetterboxdBlueSkyInstagramFacebookShow LinksWatch the Superman (2025) trailer.ICYMI: Watch Ian's Superman 2025 Public Service Announcement, including his thoughts on the DCU moving forward! As teased in the show, Ian interviewed Rachel Brosnahan a few years ago, during her Marvelous Mrs. Maisel days.
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a movie with the weight of the future of the entire DCU and Warner Bros. filmography on its back! No small task... It's "Superman!" Directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult. Perhaps no film this year HAS to be as great as this one needs to be. Can it possibly live up to the challenge? No. No it can't. We're sorry to say. But let's at least talk about it. Spoilers begin at roughly the 7:00 mark, and some small spoilers may be contained in the text below. 00:00 - Intro / We're very important people AKA Amazon Prime subscribers 01:42 - What Keith thought 03:46 - What Ev thought 05:23 - This film fails to meet the massive expectations it kinda needed to meet 07:12 - "This movie is like a sequel to a movie that was never released" AKA you need to have at least something of a pre-existing relationship with this IP going in 09:08 - This film is too crowded with too many characters and too many conflicts 13:42 - The character development that is here is good, but there's not enough of it, particularly for Lois Lane 16:40 - Is this movie solely for diehard Superman fans? And if so... why? 19:53 - The kitschy tone of everything 24:10 - The Snyderverse wasn't exactly great but at least there were stakes 26:38 - Thank God that CGI dog was around to save the day every single time AKA will our hero ever win on his own? 31:17 - The film is very well cast with solid performances - Keith loves Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Ev loves David Corenswet as Clark Kent 34:37 - Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific is the best part 36:40 - Why do women love Jimmy Olsen so much and why is that so key to the plot of this film? 42:03 - Lois Lane flying the spaceship is stupid 44:56 - James Gunn knows better and has made better films before... Why do all the emotional moments here fall flat? 51:05 - Flashbacks to "Wonder Woman 1984" OH MY GOD NO 55:36 - Is this film going to make people excited for what's to come? James Gunn has officially launched his DC Universe—and we've got thoughts. In this episode of ThumbWar, Rachel and J.D. dive headfirst into the chaotic brilliance of the new Superman movie, complete with our favorite needle-drops, Krypto chaos, Lex Luthor love, and Mr. Terrific stealing the whole damn show. Mike is joined by Father Malone (Midnight Viewing) and Chris Stachiw (The Kulturecast) to discuss James Gunn's first foray as the head of the "DCU" with his 2025 film, Superman. It's a new interpretation of the Man of Steel as David Corenswet takes to the skies as the lone son of Krypton watches over the people of Earth, much to the chagrin of Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). It's a surprisingly decent entry from DC that may pave the way to a less-dour vision of superheroes.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.

This week John Wyatt Greenlee, Colin Colbourn, and Alan Malfavon flyover to talk about James Gunn's Superman, the need for heroes in everyday lives, and casting the rest of the DCU.About our guests:Alan Malfavon is Assistant Professor of History at California State University San Marcos. His first book, Men of the Leeward Port: Veracruz's Afro-Descendants in the Making of Mexico, under contract with the University of Alabama Press, focuses on the understudied Afro-Mexican population of Veracruz and its hinterland of Sotavento (Leeward) and uses it to reframe the historical and historiographical transition between the colonial and national period. It argues how Afro-Mexicans facilitated, complicated, and participated in multiple socio-political processes that reshaped Veracruz and its borderlands. Colin Colbourn holds a Ph.D in U.S. History from the University of Southern Mississippi. His expertise includes mass communication and assisting in research efforts for unresolved casualties from past conflicts. Since 2007 he has published articles on Marine Corps history in Leatherneck: Magazine of the Marines, and was Associate Editor for the West Point History of Warfare. John Wyatt Greenlee is a medievalist and a cartographic historian, as well as a historian of roads and pathways and pilgrimage. But he is best well known for his work on the role of eels in pre-modern England from the tenth through the seventeenth centuries. He is heavily engaged in outreach and public engagement to make the eel history more widely known, and to raise awareness for the role of eels as an endangered species. His work with eels and eel history has been profiled in TIME, The Guardian, Atlas Obscura, Hakai Magazine, and The New Yorker (click here for a full list of earned media)

The Fully Geeked Pod dissect the 2025 Blockbuster Superman. Was James Gunn the right man to bring back the DCU? Who is Krypto? and I can see why a dog is a mans best friend! Why is Lex so mad? David Corenswet does a good job at playing Superman lets take nothing away from him. The film isn't without its faults but we go back to the question is it worth all the hype? The marketing budget was huge!
This week on The Broski Report, Fearless Leader Brittany Broski discusses her experience at the Cowboy Carter Tour, talks about filming Royal Court with David Corenswet, determines the hotness of animated animal characters, and analyzes a series of Tomas Cole paintings.
While sneaking into the Superman movie press junket to meet the cast, Rick pulled his hamstring. That same day, he met the new Superman himself — David Corenswet — and invited him on the pod. Later that night, Rick got a massage… while David took his shoes off for the very first time.
At last, I finally understand the dangers of investing in Krypto Director James Gunn leaves Guardians of the Galaxy behind to launch DC Studios, starting with the 2025 resurrection of Superman. But can David Corenswet be a Man of Steel to Metropolis after Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) smears his good name in a social media campaign that questions why dad Bradley Cooper sent him to Earth? And is the narrative even harder to control when reporter-girlfriend Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) challenges the way “Big Blue” protects foreign countries from invasion? Get the full scoop as the Now Playing Gang reunites.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's another smash hit for Warner Brothers. Superman is a 2025 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Superman. Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) produced by DC Studios and the second reboot of the Superman film series. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. In the film, Superman must prove to the world that he is their protector after billionaire Lex Luthor enacts a plan to turn public opinion against him.Development on a sequel to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film Man of Steel (2013) began by October 2014, with Henry Cavill set to reprise his role as Superman. Plans changed after the troubled production of Justice League (2017) and the Man of Steel sequel was no longer moving forward by May 2020. Gunn began work on a new Superman film around August 2022. In October, he became co-CEO of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran and they began work on a new DC Universe. Gunn was revealed to be writing the film in December. The title Superman: Legacy was announced the next month, Gunn was confirmed to be directing in March 2023, and Corenswet and Brosnahan were cast that June. The subtitle was dropped by the end of February 2024, when filming began in Svalbard, Norway. Production primarily took place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with location filming around Georgia and Ohio. Filming wrapped in July. The film takes inspiration from the comic book All-Star Superman (2005–2008) by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, among others.Superman premiered at the TCL Chinese Theater on July 7, 2025, and was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on July 11. It is the first film of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Superman received positive reviews from critics and has grossed $220 million against a $225 million budget.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
