WARNING: Do not listen to this episode unless you have seen the 2024 Warner Bros./DC Comics/CW release "Superman & Lois" or do not mind hearing key plot points. Superman & Lois recently completed its 4th season on the CW Network. The network had been sold, and the producers were given a 10-episode order for a final season with a reduced cast, smaller budget, and limited resources. Still, the series finished strong, with a storyline involving Doomsday and arch-villain Lex Luthor, played by my Michael Cudlitz. Superman & Lois starred Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman and Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane. Showrunner Todd Helbing was joined by writing partner Brent Fletcher in helming the final season. Helbing joined the podcast towards the beginning of the series' run (Episode 267). In this episode, Helbing laments the outpouring of praise for the series finale. He discusses the challenges of doing the entire series, especially discussing the budget limitations for Season 4. Helbing also gave insight as to the casting of Cudlitz as Lex Luthor, and the incredible performances of Tulloch, and Hoechlin, as well as Kent twins Alex Garfin and Michael Bishop. Bishop replaced actor Jordan Elsass in Season 3. Helbing also went in-depth in discussing the now iconic final scene of the series finale.

The gangs all here so the group comes in hot this week with Joy, Superman & Lois, Yacht Rock, Three Women, Star Wars Skeleton Crew, and Creature Commandos. Before getting to the nitty gritty, Andrew has a heart to heart with the audience at home. That's right, after some gentle soul searching and badgering from the internet, Andrew has come to the realization that Arcane is an amazing show. Peer pressure is real, kids!! After Andrew completes his apology, the show kicks off with Lauren talking about the new film. Joy, on Netflix. It's the true story of the birth (pun intended because I'm hilarious) of IVF treatment. While maybe not the most compelling film in the world, the acting and the message are solid and Lauren enjoyed it enough. Next up, at the behest of Andrew, Kevin discusses Superman and Lois and the recent series finale. This will go down as a show that deserved better but gave us so much. Is it perfect? No. But it does an amazing job portraying an older Superman/Clark Kent as a man and father along side his wife, Lois Lane. This is a debate with no winner, but the argument could be made this was both best Superman and the best Lois we've ever been given. If you love Superman and can handle that little bit of CW cheese, this deserves a watch. The finale is an actual tear jerker! Andrew then helps us sail away (an Enya song, not related to this at alll) with the new DOCKumentary (HBO's pun, not mine) about the Yacht Rock explosion. It's a fun hour plus of great music and storytelling about one of the most fun genres of music in the last 50 years or so. If the music industry interests you at all, or you're just a big Michael McDonald fan (you know you are...), then you'll love this one. unlike Joy, which Lauren felt was pretty serviceable, Three Women on Starz is a show with a lot of unfulfilled potential. Despite a really solid cast and being based on a best seller, the show starts of hot and steamy in the beginning and just kind of fades off into the ether. Lauren was ultimately a little sad that she watched, but at least she took the bullet for you! Kevin and Andrew go to nerd town next discussing the first episodes of Star Wars Skeleton Crew and DCs Creature Commandos. Neither one is absolutely mind blowing but both are a lot of fun and have a great path forward through their respective seasons. They should also both have a solid impact on the film universes the inhabit going forward. Finally, the show ends on a fun but whiny note. Kevin and Andrew discuss and then eviscerate The Madness and The Dark Tower. At least The Madness has some potential, albeit not a ton. The Dark Tower is an abomination for anyone who has read the source material or even just, you know, watched movies...  As always, thank you for watching. Super Fam of Steel we have loved covering all four seasons of Superman & Lois, but like the title of this episode says, “It Went By So Fast.”   Doomsday is on the rampage, and it takes Superman, both Superboys, and Steel's hammer to put him down...although only temporarily. Clark races to take him to the sun, prepared to fight him if he wakes up along the way. But inside, Bizarro awakens and seemingly understanding what he's done, he offers himself up and is ready to end all he has caused. Lex goes after Amanda for betraying his loyalty, ultimately proving he could love no one but himself, and thankfully the boys arrive just in time to save her. Back in town though, a vengeful Lex takes out Jon with a missile blast and Jordan ends up in Lex's grasp. Lois distracts him and then baits him to get close, allowing her to attach a new experimental bomb from John Henry, and Lex's suit gets damaged from the blast. Clark arrives and the battle is taken to the clouds. Nothing will stop Clark from protecting his family and with a series of massive blows, he destroys the suit.  One year later, John Henry and Lana are getting married by Lois. The town comes together to celebrate. Everyone is making plans. Lex has been denied his appeal and is in prison, under Bruno's watchful eye. Superman, both Superboys, Steel, and Starlight from a team to protect the world. Clark and Lois start a foundation to help in ways the supers cannot and dedicate it to her father, Sam. As time goes by, Clark and Lois get to grow old together. Jon and Jordan both marry and end up having many kids. But their years of happiness soon come to an end as Lois' cancer returns, and Clark has to say goodbye. Life slowly continues on for him, but he feels lonely without Lois around everyday, and ends up adopting a dog. Then one day, while walking the streets of Smallville, he collapses to the ground due to his heart giving out. Time is growing short, but he is ready, as this mortality is something he never thought he'd have. Clark...Superman....passes on, and is greeted by all his loved ones as he makes one final journey to the other side, where a stunning Lois in her red dress is waiting for him. We have had fun covering Legends of Tomorrow, Stargirl, Superman & Lois, The Flash, Jupiter's Legacy, X-Men '97, and The Tomorrow People. We have other shows we are looking forward to covering. But none of this would be possible with our you our community of listeners! The Waverider has crossed us over to a new reality. One where the Tomorrow People, with telepathy, telekinesis, and teleportation abilities, are on the run from the secret government task force, the ULTRA organization. In this episode we see teenage Roger saving Jed from a bullet. It is an act that set Jed's live in motion. Through flashbacks we see the brothers experimenting and testing Rogers powers. A next step is need. Jed connects them with Hugh Bathory. He is a powerful and driven person with a vision. He coins the term Tomorrow People, because he is one. He has grand plans to help the world with the powers of the Tomorrow People. But Jed demands part of the research go to helping to give humans powers. This sets the two on a adversarial path. Jed convinces Stephen the only path to end the war is killing Bathory, The Founder.  They need John to kill him. It takes some hard conversations between Jed and Stephen and Jed and John, but they move forward. In the end it takes Jed & TIM hacking The Founder's security, Cassie distracting her dad, and a battle for John & Stephen to get to him. But in the end The Founder says all of this was Jed's plan to drive a wedge between them. He says he and Roger built the machine to help the Tomorrow People move forward. Cassie pushes Stephen out of the way and John fire the gun. The Founder deflects it and it hits and kills Cassie. Jed is on the run, and we don't know who to trust. Cara is getting flashes of a new Breakout. She is in her head just like Stephen was. Tim helps narrow down the location to Lincoln Center. Cara and Russell find her. The ballerina breakout is Cara's sister Sophie. Sophie is talented and has been working hard to shine as a ballerina. The powers are nothing that she wants. The sisters reconnect and with the help of Astrid, Sophie sees who Cara really is. Cara cannot crush her sister's dreams and imprison her in the Tomorrow People's life. So, she has Stephen wipe Sophie from ULTRA's data base. Superman & Lois is essentially the last remnant of the roster of superhero shows that CW started with Arrow.
