Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Steven Kent Steven Kent, owner of The Steven Kent Winery in Livermore Valley, joins Steve Jaxon and Dan Berger on California Wine Country. Dan Berger recently visited Livermore with his friend, winemaker Clark Smith, to investigate Cabernet Franc. Steven given Cabernet Franc a privileged position in his portfolio. For centuries, Cabernet Franc has been used as a blending grape, but Steven says it can do a whole lot more. He has brought four Cabernet Francs for tasting today, Steven Kent's son is the seventh generation of Kent family winemakers. In 1854 they started making wine in San José. The Livermore Valley was a wine producing region forty years before Sonoma County. Steven says that Cabernet Franc and the Livermore Valley both deserve more recognition. Dan attended a Cabernet Franc festival there recently and there were a lot of people there who are very enthusiastic about Cab Franc. Cab Franc: not just a blending grape. Cabernet Franc gets harvested about 2 weeks earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon. It has less tannin and more aromatics with some dried herb character. In some ways it is a finer variety. Dan calls Cab Franc the father and Cab Sauvignon, “the wild and wooly teenage son.” For people who are looking for a slightly different approach to red wine, Cab Franc is a good choice. It is graceful and doesn't have the same power as Cab Sauvignon. They have a 2022 Cab Franc from the Ghielmetti vineyard. Livermore is hot by day but gets cold at night. The nearby Altamont pass is a windy place, which extends the growing season. They would normally harvest this in early November. It gets no new oak. Dan Berger says, “This is red wine of a very serious nature but without any of the heavy tannins or the over-ripe components that sometimes creep into bigger, richer, oilier wines that are aged in barrels.” He also calls it “the Pinot Noir of Cabernet.” Dan would give it two to three more years, but it doesn't need much smoothing because it's already more than half way there. Located in Livermore They are located on Vasco Road in Livermore. Their tasting room is in a light industrial area, with seven other wineries nearby, known call the place “Vasco Row.” They buy 95% of their fruit from their local friends, and the remaining portion from the Santa Cruz area. They have a club lounge at the winery for their members. Dan calls it “uncontaminated by tourists.” The Kents are the oldest continuous winemaking family in the country. Lineage is another label that they produce. When he and his father Steven Kent Senior opened Steven Kent Winery, they wanted to produce high quality Bordeaux style wines. After working with a lot of Rhone varietals, he wanted to return to Bordeaux styles. In 2007 he started Lineage as a Bordeaux blend and so they could produce elegant age-worthy wines that would go well with food. The one they are tasting is the 2017. Dan says it is well-balanced. It's called Lineage because it represents the family history in winemaking.

Host Anthony Desiato and guest Mike Sangregorio dig once more into writer Grant Morrison's New 52-era ACTION COMICS run with artists Rags Morales, Brad Walker, and others. They unpack the stripped-down, unrestrained version of the character, Vyndktvx's time-bending assault across Superman's timeline, the role the Kents (and their deaths) serve, and why — as with all Morrison works — this one benefits from a patient read.Support the show and receive exclusive podcast content at Patreon.com/AnthonyDesiato, including the spinoff podcasts BEYOND METROPOLIS and DIGGING FOR JUSTICE!Visit BCW Supplies and use promo code FSP to save 10% on your next order of comics supplies. Playliste: Martin Sköld - Tuna 350 Kent - När det blåser på månen Kent - Om du var här Kent - Kevlarsjäl Kent - Musik non stop Kent - Stoppa mig Juni (Lilla ego) Kent - Kärleken väntar Kent - Dom andra Titiyo - Come along Lisa Miskovsky - Lady Stardust Kent - Palace & Main Kent - Den döda vinkeln Kent - Elefanter Kent - Columbus Kent - Vy från ett luftslott Kent - Töntarna Kent - 18:29-4/Taxmannen Kent - Hjärta Kent - Ensamheten Kent - La Belle Epoque Kent - Skogarna Kent - Kungen är död
Michelle Hughs grew up being the prettiest woman in the room. She had a charm that made people feel special and when you spoke to her she could make you feel heard and like you were the only one in the room. And while working at a nightclub, Michelle would use this charm to manipulate 3 men, Kent Leppink, John Carlin and Scott Hilky into giving her money, expensive gifts and proposing to her. Michelle juggled 3 fiancés but as time went on her lies caught up to her and specifically Kent Leppink was no longer falling for it. Her fake stories, manipulation tactics and most of all, Kent refused to make Michelle his main beneficiary before they got married. Kents family wouldn't see the terror of his relationship until they would receive a cryptic package from Kent with a note claiming that if they are reading this, then he was murdered by either Michelle, Scott or John. And when Kents family tried to call him multiple times, they were met with no response. Because Kent was found dead 90 miles away from his home. Michelle would always wiggle out of her mistakes with her looks and charm. But how far could her looks and charm take her when it comes to manipulating one of her fiances, to murder her other fiance for her. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Kents have a human son, Lana is married to a French Pete Ross, Chloe doesn't matter, Jimmy is Jimmy and Lois is somehow even hotter for Clark. What could go wrong? Oh, Lex Luthor is President of the United States and wants to nuke the entire world. James Marsters (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) returns again as DC Comics original character Brainiac.
EPISODE 7 - A Regular Guy - “You'd Be Surprised What A Pair Of Glasses Will Do”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 7 - A Regular GuyDirected by:Gregory SmithWritten By:Katie AldrinGeorge KitsonThe Apple TV and Imdb description is: After some concerning interactions in town, Clark is determined to protect the secret that he's Superman - a task complicated by Jonathan and Jordan; Lois considers the future of the Gazette after Chrissy proposes something drastic.HENRY'S NOTES:FLASHBACK TO FIRST APPEARANCE ACTION #1!!!2 Shirt rips!I am here once again, saying that I don't care about Kyle and Christy and this a waste of screentime. This is weird watching Clark pretend to be hurt. I don't like it. It's awkward.Jimmy! And his sister? I like that Jimmy asked to be “pals” of course. And great reference to the “Daily Star.” But he called him “CK”Haha, “Timmy.” Where did this guy come from? Is he from last season?“You've ruined my life kent” - really? I thought he gets to be QB because Jon isn't doing it. I dunno, why is selling her share of the Gazette so dramatic. Seems pretty practical to me. Haha Clark actually bunted. This show has everything. Clark Kent playing baseball with Jimmy Olson. It's all I ever wanted and I'm so sad it's over. Timmy Ryan is the dumbest name“Candice knows” - “YOU TOLD YOUR GIRLFRIEND!” lol“Cut your dad some slack”“We need the bunt king” - What do we think of this Jimmy? So Jimmy figured out the secret. Ok fine. So what do we think about in this universe Clark is just either very bad at keeping the secret OR everyone is not dumbNice of Clark and Lois to buy Chrissy out and IDC“Did I get knocked up by the town bully?”Nice of Kyle to raise a toast to the Kents etc but he didn't actually apologize to ClarkI like the mirroring of the last time Candice's dad got fucked up in the diner by Clark.Very interesting way for Superman to reveal himself to the world. I don't know how I feel about it“When Emmet fired the bullet it made me think maybe this is doing more harm than good. …It has to be a family decision.”“You've fought aliens and stopped world's from merging” - Crisis?“I'm just a regular guy”The Daily Planet won the “Metro Cup” and “Last one at Bibbowski's picks up the tab”Jimmy: “I missed you too pal”This was a very well done episode with a plot that I don't like Follow us on twitter at https://x.com/SupermanPalsPod!Check out a video version of this episode at https://www.youtube.com/@gonzo3249! This time we dive into the Kents' struggle to adjust to life back together, wedding plans for Kyle and Chrissy, and a Metropolis rescue with plenty of heat!
EPISODE 4 - A Perfectly Good Wedding - “Alright rookie, settle down”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Confirmed: Unfortunately, the Showrunner has confirmed that Adam Rayner will not be returning as Tal-Rho in Season 4The character's last appearance was at the end of Season 2 when he chose to stay in the Bizarro world.Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 4 - A Perfectly Good WeddingDirected by:Gregory SmithWritten By:George Kitson and Max KronickThe Apple TV and Imdb description is: The Kents struggle to adjust to their new normal; Lois helps throw Kyle and Chrissy an impromptu wedding that doesn't go as planned.HENRY'S EPISODE NOTES:This should be called “A Perfectly Fine Episode”Lol to the caption saying, “Somber music.” No shit, S&L.Wait this wasn't a dream? He's really back like that?“A Second chance to do more, to be better. And make the most of the time we have on this planet”So Clark has been back for 3 weeks? Nice to see Kyle and Chrissy, but I dunno. I don't care about them anymore now that we have 6 episodes left.Haha Jonathan made a Star Wars reference and Clark loved it, “12 Parsecs.” Amazing that he's so good at flying. Holy shit he just busted right through. This is really fun. I love that their training consists of Movie references. And again I gotta hand it to the effects crew. This show has consistently not looked like a cartoon.“All right rookie, settle down.” - Clark after Jonathan busts Clark for crashing going Mach 5.I'm glad that they're continuing the thread of Jordan being upset about Lois choosing Jonathan. That's a reason to be pissed. Good of Jon to call out Jordan on that stuff too. “Just following your example superboy”Lois: Do you want to talk about….for starters you died. Clark: Everything feels different. Amazing that they can share not feeling secure in their bodies. I love them so much. “What matters is that you're here with me now.” Clark can get drunk! Cheryl Campbell: “Your dad is one of the good ones”Jordan still thinking that Clark and Sam died because of him“I don't have a suit!”- Jon, “You've got a hoodie” - Jordan lolWhoa who's that fire guy?Is Superman's new suit even darker???Dance sequence. Lots of cute shots of Lois and Clark. That's all I care about. Breaking news Superman Returns Superman Lives! This episode was a lot of filler and I honestly think they rushed him back. The emotional weight of episode 1 was completely thrown out the window Follow us on twitter at https://x.com/SupermanPalsPod!Check out a video version of this episode at https://www.youtube.com/@gonzo3249! Hello Super Fam of Steel. Lots of tears here on the Waverider as we mourn Sam Lane. Join us as we discuss “Always My Hero.” The Kent family privately mourns a funeral on the Kent farm, foreshadowing what's to come this episode. Later, Lois decides she needs to tell the world, Superman cannot save them anymore. With Lex and Doomsday still on the loose, Sam asks the Irons family to step up. Giving them brand new call signs, Steel and Starlight, the power duo suits up and are ready to help defend their new world. Jon is frustrated with Jordan. All the complaining about his powers, not being able to stand up to Lex, and also blames him for their dad dying. In anger and frustration, he punches a barn beam breaking his hand. All of this emotion, trauma and stress awakens his powers in one of the greatest scenes of the show. He has all of his dad's powers and is ready to train at the D.O.D. with Sam. Lex has control of Doomsday. It seems like he cares for little else than revenge on the Kents and finding his daughter. He spreads division by playing Jordan against Lois when he plays the audio of her choosing Jon over him. He sends his inside man to Sam, but he will not give up Elizabeth's location and Lieutenant Jonell Jones shoots him. The wound is mortal, and Doomsday is on the way. Sam takes the serum Bruno used to make Doomsday and sacrifices himself to Doomsday who crushes him in one hand while Lois and the boys watch. Steel flies the body to the Fortress and explains to Lara that Sam's heart can be a donor heart for Clark. She has reservations until John explains that Cal's blood was running through that heart, and she decides to try it anyway. The procedure seems to work ask Clark's eyes open with a gasping breath. The funeral continues from where we began the episode, as Lois says her goodbyes to Sam in a tearful moment. Can the Irons, Jon & Jordan stop Lex and Doomdsday? We get a sneak peek at Absolute Superman #1 and chat with Jason Aaron about crafting a new Superman who has a very different path into the DCU. JAson discusses how he is buildign the story and statying true to the core of the character without the touchstones that Superman fans are familiar with, such as the Kents, growing up in Smallville, Metropolis and the Fortress of Solitude. Also Jason talks about the way the general public will perceive the news heroes that have been showing up in this new world that is so heavily influence dby Darkseid. Plus some talk about the costume and visual collaboration with artist Rafa Sandoval. There's a lot to unpack, not too mention the preview pages with the ominous green color tinging everything. Is this a nod to Krypton or a sign that Krptonite itself will be more readliy available on this new Earth?

Kent Nerburn occupies a prominent place in the pantheon of writers who observe and document native life in a world where real people meet the challenges of real life amid the simplistic mythologizing/pathologizing characterizations of Native people to which we all a drawn from time to time. Kent does not avoid controversy in his writing process, he sees it as exploring what Jonathan Rauch calls "The Constitution of Knowledge" a healthy and robust discussion of ideas that allow us to develop revealed knowledge and truth from frank and often-ongoing dialog. Precisely what we advocate in The Radical Centrist Podcast series. This podcast celebrates the 25th anniversary of the first publishing of "Neither Wolf Nor Dog - On Forgotten Roads with an Indian Elder", documenting Kents travels through Indian Country with a Native American Elder he calls "Dan".This podcast is dedicated to the memory of Charles "Bud" Thompson, founder of the Canterbury Shaker Museum, in Canterbury, New Hampshire; and, at 68, Founder of the Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner NH. Though Kent and I have never actually met, both of us knew Bud and count him as among our most cherished mentors.

This week, one of the defining writers of DC Comics in the 80s and early 90s will turn 75 years old. John Ostrander has a storied career over more than 40 years. He created an indy hit with his creator owned mercenary, Grimjack, and wrote some of the best received Star Wars comics ever. His work at DC includes The Suicide Squad, the Spectre, Martian Manhunter, Hawkworld, Manhunter and The Kents. But if you have that length and breadth of a career, you're going to wind up writing some Batman. So this week, we're reading three Ostrander stories featuring Batman or his rogues. We discuss the value of melodrama in the life of a supervillain. learn some facts about Penguin's favorite fictional character and read one story that probably shouldn't have been included in an episode meant to celebrate a writer, since even the best sometimes miss. Sign up for our mailing list There are mailing list signups on the last few podcast posts on our site, accessible through the podcast link at the top of our menu. Thank you! Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7:30 The Oscars are next weekend so we won't have a podcast unless something huge breaks. Since we last talked Chandra and I both saw American Fiction, that was my favorite. Chandra liked it but wanted it to focus more on Issa Rae's character. She thought The Zone of Interest was very disturbing, but loved Poor Things. She is also watching Capote vs. The Swans and loves the performances. If Emma Stone takes home the Oscar over Lily Gladstone, Chandra is fine with that. Royals: Minutes 7:30 to 29:00 In our last podcast we mentioned Charles' cancer diagnosis and Kate disappearance following abdominal surgery. Kate has not been seen in over 60 days. A Kensington Palace spokesperson gave a snotty statement about it to Page Six that did not reveal much. Their PR is so terrible. On February 15th the Sussexes made a three day trip to Canada to do events ahead of next year's winter Invictus Games. Harry had an interview with Good Morning America. The Sussexes also launched Sussex.com and Meghan got a podcast deal with Lemonada media. They're getting positive coverage apart from silly criticism. Harry was also criticized for answering questions about visiting his father. At first we heard that William, who is BAFTAs president, was not going to attend the BAFTAs on February 18th. That's pretty typical for him. However after Harry and Meghan got so much press for their Canada trip, he announced that he was going. A photo went viral where William was talking backstage to actresses, including Ayo Edebiri and Phoebe Dynevor, who were looking at him skeptically. It turned out that Prince William had made a very inappropriate comment to Mia McKenna-Bruce about her movie. He was very unprepared to meet the actresses and admitted to not having watched any of their films. On Tuesday the 20th, William issued a statement on the Middle East crisis, which no one was asking him about. William was scheduled to visit the British Red Cross and could have just issued a statement about their work instead. On Thursday, February 29th, William went to an event at a synagogue in central London to discuss anti-Semitism. Kate was originally scheduled to go with him to that event. We remember when Kate did an event with Holocaust survivors in 2021 in which she was engaged and charming. After William's statement on the Middle East and after he looked drunk at an investiture ceremony, Piers Morgan published a story about how William has been drinking wine since he was 13. On Tuesday February 27th there was a memorial service in London for King Constantine II of Greece, who passed last January. Neither Charles nor William went to the funeral in Greece in 2023. Charles announced ahead of time that he would not make it to this memorial. William was scheduled to give a reading, but canceled less than an hour before. It became international news. At the service were Camilla, at the head of the procession to the church, and Prince Andrew and Fergie were also upfront. Also there were Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. She's a notorious racist. The Kents' son-in-law, Thomas Kingston, passed away at just 45 in Gloucester on Sunday. His death was not announced for two days and his in laws went to that memorial service before the news got out. The press announced that William's absence at the memorial wasn't due to Thomas's death. Meanwhile there are all these stories about how the monarchy is fragile and the cracks are showing now. The way the Waleses have bungled their own PR is astounding. Here's a link to the story Chandra mentioned from The Daily Beast. Comments of the Week: Minutes 29:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Walking the Walk on the post about Harry losing his case over royal protection while in the UK. My comment of the week is from Christine on the post about the Willy Wonka kids experience in Scotland. Thanks for listening bitches!
Ampersand Month concludes with an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman called "Ghosts." Newly married Lois and Clark are settling into their new brownstone when a neighbor decides to sell her house due to a persistent haunting. Soon, the Kents themselves experience a specter. Clark suspects a more mundane reason for the problem, but Lois takes the ghost at her word. Meanwhile, a real estate hustler who owes the local Irish mob a lot of money tries to steer the ghost toward his own ends. Will he succeed or will Lois outsmart everyone? Oh, and the episode features special guests as the hustler and the ghost. Erik discovers episode director Robert Ginty also starred in the fabulously cheesy movie Warrior of the Lost World. He and Justin consider the difference between good, important films and movies to be enjoyed with repeat viewings. Comic book discussions abound with Justin recalling how he indoctrinated someone to superhero comics, the earliest comic book storyline Erik read, and an appreciation of artist Jim Aparo. The pair pitch a Doc Savage movie with Tom Hardy and Rahul Kohli. Dean Cain continues to get the ribbing he deserves while other Superman actors get praise. Erik and Justin differ on Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane and Barry Allen ruins Iris's chances to be a dependable private eye.
In The Last Son of Krypton, Superman is born on an alien world to a technologically advanced species that resembles humans. Shortly after he is born, his planet is destroyed in a natural cataclysm, but Superman's scientist father foresaw the calamity and saves his baby son by sending him to Earth in a small spaceship. The ship is too small to carry anyone else, so Superman's parents stay behind and die. The earliest newspaper strips name the planet "Krypton", the baby "Kal-L", and his biological parents "Jor-L" and "Lora"; their names were changed to "Jor-el", and "Lara" in a 1942 spinoff novel by George Lowther. The ship lands in the American countryside, where the baby is discovered by the Kents, a farming couple. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rangerryan/message
