Delar av jordbrukssektorn ligger långt fram: man använder sensorer och olika AI-tillämpningar, självkörande traktorer och satellitkameror för att optimera avkastningen av varje kvadratmeter på åkern. Magnus Unemyr, Marketing Automation Expert, helps companies install and set up website-based marketing automation systems. He recommends using site lead magnets (calls to action, buttons, banner ads), caging some content behind landing pages with registration forms, offering incentives to register information e.g., a PDF that can only be downloaded in exchange for contact information, and adding nurturing sequences with follow-up emails. (He uses Tripwire.) Each piece of content should drive the customer or potential customer one step closer to making the purchase. In this interview, Magnus clarifies the difference between today's narrow AI software and strong AI. Narrow AI learns from data and self optimizes over time by iteratively improving its original function. Narrow AI in email application might learn the optimal time to deliver an email to  an individual customer to increase the likelihood of that email being opened. Strong AI has the capability to learn things outside of its originally targeted function . . . to reason on its own, to start to get feelings . . . which is still the stuff of science fiction. Traditional marketing automation systems; e.g., HubSpot, ActiveCampaign, or Act-On, are fairly basic in autonomous decision-making. Magnus sees a natural progression from using AI-powered algorithms/marketing automation systems to automatically harvest data, eventually moving toward more complex functions – developing “insights,” and, eventually, making autonomous decisions about and triggering individualized marketing outreach initiatives without human intervention. This future AI will be able to do highly personalized outreach – to send the right content to the right person at the right time, in the right channel, and at the right frequency – improving the customer experience and minimizing the “spamminess” of cookie-cutter automatic responses. However, when deploying new marketing automation systems, companies need to budget for content production, and each piece of content should send the reader or viewer one step further toward the purchase. Also, major marketing automation tools are not standalone solutions – they need to be integrated with additional specialized smaller marketing automation systems – webinar platforms, proprietary databases, etc. AI can fail. For instance, AI algorithms are trained by historical data. Without enough historical data, any AI system will not be able to make accurate decisions. If the data is skewed or flawed, the AI algorithm will produce flawed predictions or behavior. The software supplier needs to be able to prove that the software is behaving and producing accurate results. Magnus describes his book, Data-Driven Marketing with Artificial Intelligence, as the definitive guide to understanding and using AI in marketing. As listeners to Just the Tips know, I am all about systems. You put a system in place and get it running smoothly and you open up hectares of time for high-value work. On today’s episode, we have a guest who puts my love of automation to shame. Magnus Unemyr has worked in software development and the Internet of Things for 25 years, and has really dedicated himself to marketing automation and marketing with artificial intelligence and the internet-of-things. Specifically, he’s figured out how to combine AI and IoT to create an automated, state-of-the-art marketing system. Hold onto your hats. We discuss what we mean when we say AI, how you can use it for your business, and some great AI-gone-wrong stories. This is some Spielberg stuff right here. Artificial intelligence marketing for small businesses So artificial intelligence sounds like a very expensive tool for small businesses to adopt, but as Magnus told us, there are cost-effective solutions for even smaller companies, like website chatbots or Facebook Messenger chatbots. But there are other options as well, including using artificial intelligence for email marketing, determining the optimal send time for emails to individuals. And there are already Google AdWords optimization tools to help you improve your ROI for your ads. This is truly cutting edge stuff, and I think Just the Tips listeners will be fascinated by these options. Artificial intelligence sounds great! What is it? Artificial intelligence is everywhere these days, in the news, in various sales pitches. And there is a lot of fear of it, and questions of what it can and can’t do. So I had to ask Magnus how he defines AI, and he had a surprising answer. Magnus told us we don’t actually have artificial intelligence at the moment, what we really mean is machine learning and predictive analytics. The difference is that now what we have software that essentially uses advanced computing to solve problems. But what Magnus calls “strong AI” is more akin to a software robot who can learn to build things they haven’t been pre-programmed to do at all. We’re not there yet, but there are already a lot of applications for Just the Tips users in the “soft” AI currently available. How artificial intelligence marketing can help with lead generation Nearly every business is looking for quality lead generation, so I had to ask Magnus—after dipping into some scary AI stories—how artificial intelligence can facilitate lead-gen. Without even blinking he discussed options such as automated or semi-automated content generation and curation. Content curation tools can help a business save a lot of time to find content that’s worth sharing. But if you move a little further down into the marketing funnel, there are a lot of tools that can help with conversion rate optimization (CRO). For instance, there is a tool that can generate hundreds of thousands of different designs of a landing page, and assess a user’s preferences and show them the one that would work best for them. That’s just one instance of an extremely useful tool you’ll hear about on this episode of Just the Tips, the business podcast OF THE FUTURE. Lead generation and lead scoring through artificial intelligence One of the uses for artificial intelligence in marketing that really perked up my ears was using it to assist with lead scoring. Lead scoring is a very important piece of lead generation, but it’s also a very manual process. So selfishly, I asked Magnus what tools are out there that can help with this, and was surprised to find out there are a number of them already on the market. This is a really eye-opening episode of Just the Tips that proves the future is now. Welcome to episode 177, this week I want to focus on research….not stalking! The problem is that everyone seems to want to refer to it as stalking so whatever…I’m going with that in the headline. There is so much valuable information to be gleamed from someones LinkedIn profile and yet most people barely scratch the surface. More of that later but as always I’m starting with…. Interesting Stuff I Saw This Week Once a Running Joke, LinkedIn Is Suddenly a Hot Social Network. Here’s What Changed LinkedIn Is Going to Start Serving Native Ads to Outlook Users’ Inboxes LinkedIn Update Not so much an update as just some feedback. Native video appears to be fully rolled out now and the numbers of videos in my feed has increased dramatically. The net result is that ‘View’ numbers are dropping like a stone! I posted a video yesterday that so far has 32 likes and 12 comments...not bad in 1 day......but only 186 views!! When native video first arrived, that amount of engagement would have shown a view number 10x that! DON'T PANIC! Here's why; 1) View metrics are not as important as Likes & Comments 2) A 'View' for native video only counts if someone pauses on your video for a minimum of 3 secs 3) Everyone now has native video and many are experimenting with it. This means there are lots of videos appearing in our feed so we skip past them within 3 secs. 4) In time, the number of videos will drop again as the novelty wears off. Stalking LinkedIn can be used in many different ways as we all know but in my experience, one of it’s most common yet also most under-utilised uses is people research. That may seem like a contradiction…..let me explain. Even the most sceptical, ‘once in a blue moon active’ LinkedIn user will look at someone’s profile on LinkedIn to check them out before a meeting or telephone conversation. It’s become the de-facto tool to find out information about people but most people just take a cursory glance at the profile. In doing so they miss so much valuable information. Here’s what I do before meeting someone; Read their headline, summary and experience Check their personal and contact info section to when we connected, check out their website links and look to see if they are on Twitter Search for relevant keywords in their Tweets (from:Twittername AND keyword OR keyword) Check their media and watch any videos (especially if it’s of them) and any presentations. If they have Slideshare presentations in their profile, hop over to Slideshare and check out their other uploads. Check for mutual connections and contact them if appropriate Also check for mutual groups in Highlights and see if they have been active recently. Check out their articles and read the most recent plus any that are highly relevant to your meeting. Pay particular attention to their response to comments. If they are a connection, thoroughly search (filter) their connections looking for highly relevant connections including your competitors! Click on ‘See all activity’ and then ‘posts’ Then move over to ‘all activity’ Click on the companies they have worked for during the last 3 years and see if you have any connections that were at the company at the same time. If so, consider contacting them. Read their current job description for any relevant information. Check their education, click on Alumni and see if you have any connections that might know them from university (depending on their age) Volunteer experience can also be enlightening Read all of their received recommendations (if possible) Now the real golden nugget….read their given recommendations to really understand what they truly value in people they know. Follow them if not already connected Check other social media channels (such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Google+) Use Crystalknows to get a psychometric assessment of them The more research you do, the better. You won’t use 90% of the information you find but the things you do use could make a huge difference. Question from Magnus Unemyr from Sweden: Assuming my posts are educational and giving value, how often can I post without becoming annoying? I currently post once a day, are two posts a day considered too much or where is the limit to be just active and not annoying? Answer: Great question. One post a day is good going, especially if you are also engaging with people throughout the day. That said, I don’t think 2 per day is over the top. In terms of whether this annoys people, well that assumes they see every post you do…which is unlikely! The algorithm helps in this regard as it won’t feed everything you post to the same followers every time. Personally I think it is more about engagement than the number of posts. You could achieve a lot more from one post a week that created extensive engagement then 5 posts that don’t! I hope that makes sense.
