W 2024 roku liczba firm, które ogłosiły upadłość z powodu niedoboru siły roboczej, wzrosła o 32 proc. i wyniosła 342 przypadki – to nowy rekord. Brak pracowników zmusza firmy do podejmowania decyzji inwestycyjnych mających na celu zastąpienie brakującej siły roboczej technologią. 69 proc. badanych firm zadeklarowało zwiększenie nakładów na automatyzację, a 63 proc. planuje inwestycje w rozwój kapitału ludzkiego poprzez podwyżki płac i lepsze warunki zatrudnienia.

“We only live, only suspire/ Consumed by either fire or fire.”…are not lines from today's poem, but one gets the feeling Bradstreet understood their meaning as well as anyone could. Happy reading.Anne Bradstreet was born Anne Dudley in 1612 in Northamptonshire, England. She married Simon Bradstreet, a graduate of Cambridge University, at the age of sixteen. Two years later, Bradstreet, along with her husband and parents, immigrated to the American colonies with the Winthrop Puritan group, and the family settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts. There, Bradstreet and her husband raised eight children, and she became one of the first poets to write English verse in the American colonies. It was during this time that Bradstreet penned many of the poems that would be taken to England by her brother-in-law, purportedly without her knowledge, and published in 1650 under the title The Tenth Muse, Lately Sprung Up in America. The Tenth Muse was the only collection of Bradstreet's poetry to appear during her lifetime. In 1644, the family moved to Andover, Massachusetts, where Bradstreet lived until her death in 1672. In 1678, the first American edition of The Tenth Muse was published posthumously and expanded as Several Poems Compiled with Great Wit and Learning. Bradstreet's most highly regarded work, a sequence of religious poems titled Contemplations, was not published until the middle of the nineteenth century.-bio via Academy of American Poets Get full access to The Daily Poem Podcast at dailypoempod.substack.com/subscribe

At the time, I was a health and fitness coach and running health and fitness challenges. And I thought, what if I do a sober October with friends and family? That was my thought.” - 00:02:20“The mental health one is the biggest shift I feel like people see quickly because a lot of us drink to cure our anxiety. I know I was doing that and that's what a lot of people tell me. And all of a sudden, when you take alcohol out, it takes, it's going to take a little shift to be like your brain has to learn how to be a brain without alcohol.” 00:26:08“I think for this one, it is the quit drinking. Just stop placing so much power on alcohol. Stop thinking that alcohol is the end all, be all.” 00:48:02

My guest this week is Sara Kaufman-Bradstreet from No More Wasted Days In this Episode:- Sara's drinking escalated slowly over the years, starting in her twenties and continuing into her forties, with rules and moderation attempts that failed over time. She struggled with Mommy Juice Culture: Sara discusses how alcohol was normalized in social settings with other moms, making it hard to quit drinking without feeling isolated. Sara worried about how quitting drinking would impact her relationship with her husband since drinking was such a shared activity. It was a heavy drinking cruise experience which served as a wake-up call, making her realize the unsustainable nature of her drinking lifestyle Even moderate drinking resulted in constant low-level hangovers, impairing her productivity and energy levels. It was only when she quit that she realized how much alcohol was affecting her daily life. These realisations led Sara to commit to a 30-day alcohol break that ultimately turned into permanent sobriety. She found that quitting drinking freed up mental space and energy, improving her focus on family, work, and personal growth. She no longer had to set or break drinking rules, which gave her a sense of liberation. Quitting alcohol also led to increased confidence - her self-esteem improved, and she became more secure in living life on her own terms, not worrying about others' opinions After quitting drinking, Sara found herself enjoying food more freely, no longer restricting calories or saving them for alcohol, which led to physical improvements like losing belly bloat. After quitting, Sara noticed a significant increase in productivity. She tackled long-neglected household tasks and even started building a house, something she never would have taken on while drinking. Early sobriety felt awkward at social events, but over time, she learned to embrace being more present and listening more in conversations. Sara adopted daily gratitude journaling and affirmations as tools to shift her mindset from deprivation to empowerment, helping her maintain a positive outlook in sobriety. I asked Sara for some tips for people in early sobriety… Sara advises people to start by making a deal with themselves to go for a set number of days without alcohol, such as 30 days. If 30 feels too long, she recommends starting with shorter goals and gradually increasing the duration. We agreed that we have to replace the Alcohol Buzz Naturally: Activities like exercise, making lists, listening to music, and doing personal tasks became replacements for the buzz she used to seek from alcohol. Like many of us in this space Sara became passionate about sobriety and she launched her “No More Wasted Days” website where she guides people through a 30 day challenge and also offers coaching More Info Tribe Sober membership – you can join up HERE. People drink for various reasons: to celebrate, socialize, commiserate, feel more courageous, alleviate boredom, or escape their troubles. Some people may also drink in an attempt to relieve the symptoms of mental ill-health. The interplay between alcohol and mental health is intricate. But depending on alcohol as temporary relief for your mental well-being, can lead to additional problems and research has proven, excessive consumption often exacerbates these conditions. You might view alcohol as a coping mechanism for managing depression, stress, anxiety, or other challenging emotions. You might not really like the taste of alcohol, but enjoy the feeling of being drunk or ‘letting off steam'. You might drink to feel socially lubricated and part of the community. Or perhaps it's become a part of your habitual 'wind down' routine. But if you have quietly questioned your relationship with alcohol, or suspected you may rely on it too much, perhaps it might be time to take a different approach? Rest assured, if the thought of life without alcohol, or dramatically reducing your intake, makes you feel nervous or anxious. You are not alone. As Annie Grace said, 'alcohol is the only drug on earth you have to justify NOT taking.' Considering a different relationship with alcohol is a courageous and significant step, and there is no shame in doing so. The encouraging news is that while this may initially seem daunting or overwhelming, as you will hear in this episode of The Happier Life Project, numerous positive benefits await you on the other side. Sara Kaufman-Bradstreet is an alcohol free coach and the founder of 'No More Wasted Days'. After Sara quit drinking on her own, she cautiously shared her alcohol free journey on her personal FB page and realised there were people out there struggling with their relationship with alcohol just like she had. Sara now leads 30 day alcohol free challenges that allow people to experience an alcohol free life with guidance and support. She also leads an online community where she hosts weekly group coaching calls and is host of the No More Wasted Days podcast along with Heather P-G. Plus, Sara has a very active following on Instagram and TikTok having gathered an impressive following of people curious to re-evaluate their relationship with alcohol. Talking to host Gabby, Sara shares her own personal journey breaking free from a life of nightly drinking and hungover days, to being five years sober. She also explains that the catalyst for her transformational change wasn't hitting ‘rock bottom' or deciding to quit alcohol. Rather, setting herself the challenge of 30 days to remain alcohol free and being so blown away by the improvement of the quality of her life, she hasn't felt the desire to touch a drop since. Sara shares with Gabby some alternate ways to replace the buzz from booze and illustrates how and why cutting out alcohol can enrich one's life rather than diminish it. Gabby and Sara also discuss re-discovering your identity and passions while remaining alcohol-free and navigating the dating scene without relying on liquor to serve as a wingman. Join us for an engaging conversation that blends healthcare, technology, and leadership, offering practical advice for product managers, marketers, and leaders looking to elevate their teams and organizations. Key Takeaways: 1. The Leadership Dilemma: Dr. Baktari delves into the Peter Principle, which suggests that individuals are promoted based on their current role competence rather than their potential in higher roles. Great CEOs can make the critical distinction between someone who is proficient at a job and those that would make an effective leader. 2. By instilling the organization's philosophy and goals in employees, leaders can empower their teams to make independent decisions that align with the company's vision. This approach fosters a sense of autonomy and encourages proactive problem-solving. 3. Invest in Company Culture: The importance of investing in employee growth and fostering a supportive culture is often underestimated. Dr.Baktari emphasizes creating an environment that encourages continuous improvement and development. By prioritizing employee development, companies can build a robust and motivated workforce dedicated to achieving long-term success. Today, we're talking about how to increase your chance of choosing an employer who is a good fit for you. I'm dividing this discussion into two parts: How to determine what qualities or characteristics are most important to you and what you can do to assess an employer. What are you looking for? There are no right or wrong answers here – what IS important is that you separate out your “non-negotiables” from your “gee – wouldn't it be nice's.” What am I talking about? When I was applying for positions all over the U.S. back in 1999, I had spent the previous decade working in a literal fallout shelter. We were in the bottom level of the student union in a cement block structure with no windows. So – one of my “gee – wouldn't it be nice” things was an office with windows. In other words, not essential, like ice cream for an ice cream sundae. More like the whipped cream or the cherry. What WAS a non-negotiable was campus support for the Career Center. I had worked too long with very little budget and practically no staff – coupled with a campus environment that didn't appreciate or utilize the career center. Here are some things that might be important to you: -A particular industry -A product or service you like, have utilized, respect -A certain aspect in their mission statement/vision statement -Whether it is a for-profit or nonprofit organization -Revenues -Number of employees -Some aspect of the organization's culture -Geographic location of the company/where you would work -Commute distance -If hybrid, the % of each -Amount of travel required -The company's reputation -The company's position in their industry -The company's phase – startup, etc. -A certain quality of your direct supervisor -The number – and possibly level – of the people you would supervise -Your budget and staffing relative to what you are expected to accomplish -Salary / bonus potential -Benefits -PTO -The expectation for the actual workday/work week – what about weekends, evenings, etc.? How many hours every week? -4-day workweek -Opportunity for advancement -Access/opportunity for training and professional development This is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Next, identify no more than 4-5 non-negotiables. You may even want to weigh them if one or two are far more important to you than the others. The idea here is to avoid “shiny object syndrome.” You are swayed by things that aren't on your list while forgetting about one or more of your non-negotiables. How do you assess these things? The answer, of course, depends on WHICH things you've selected as your non-negotiables. To research something qualitative about the company, you can't depend on the company's website. Rather, try Glassdoor.com, news releases about the company, and talking to current/former employees. To research something quantitative about the company, I recommend accessing Data Axle at your local library, Wikipedia, or the company's website. If they are publicly traded, you can get information from Standard & Poor's, Dun & Bradstreet, and the EDGAR database from sec.gov. Some of the information most important to you may not be available until you apply for a specific position (such as a quality in your direct supervisor) but knowing that it is a non-negotiable keeps it on your radar screen as you go through the interview process. Next, let's talk about touchpoints throughout the hiring process where you can gather the information you need. -Pay attention to how you are treated, and the attitude of those you come in contact with, throughout the process. Are they upbeat and friendly? Do you receive prompt responses to your questions/requests? Do they stay in regular contact and keep you apprised of what's going on with the search? -How are your interactions with the team you would be working with? Do they include you or are they standoffish – and how does that feel? (Trust your gut on this one.) -Ask questions during the interview process about opportunities for advancement, training and professional development, compensation and benefits, and expectations for the role. Pay attention to whether you receive direct and honest answers or feel they may be hedging. You can also ask about company culture – you want to hear pretty much the same thing from everyone you ask. -Consider any red flags that come up throughout the process and do your due diligence on those areas. This is especially important if you aren't unhappy where you are – you certainly don't want to leave that situation for a difficult one. Ultimately, finding the right employer involves a combination of self-knowledge, research, self-reflection, and your intuition. Trust your instincts and carefully consider how well the employer aligns with your values, goals, and preferences so you can make an informed decision. So, it's not just giving it to them. It's about being clear about what you expect in return early in the process.” - Neil Baron, B2B Product Management Consultant, Founder of Baron Strategic Partners Join us for a critical discussion with Neil Baron and Rod Griffith, following their recent article in the Harvard Business Review (read it here) on extracting the full value of early user programs. This episode unpacks the nuances of designing early user programs that go beyond mere functionality checks to validate problem-solving, target accuracy, and accelerate market readiness. The conversation delves into the importance of having a dedicated program owner (not a dictator) and the necessity of involving cross-functional teams to capture diverse perspectives. Neil and Rod outline a five-step process for a successful program, from hypothesis definition and participant selection to setting clear expectations and leveraging feedback for product and go-to-market enhancements. Highlighting the tangible outcomes of well-executed early user programs, Neil and Rod share how these strategies have led to fast revenue times, increased sales confidence, and enhanced media coverage. Key Takeaways: 1. Importance of Early User Programs: The discussion highlights the significance of early user programs in understanding market problems that a product can solve. It emphasizes that these programs should not be viewed in isolation but as part of a holistic approach to product development and market understanding. 2. Cross-Functional Collaboration: For an effective early user program, there needs to be cross-functional input and it should be considered as a critical step in the process. This requires buy-in from senior management and proper incentivization across the organization. 3. Value Proposition and Feedback: Early user programs are not only about the product, but also about understanding the customer experience, the messaging, and the value proposition. It's vital to set up a give-and-get relationship with early users, ensuring they understand the benefits they will get, and the company gets valuable feedback and data. “There are so many factors that really affect conversion that start before a customer even begins to think about purchasing from a brand. Every element of a brand's website tells the consumer something about what you do and impacts if the consumer buys from you.” Jon MacDonald, founder of The Good and author of Behind the Click In this episode of Product Chats, Jon MacDonald, founder of The Good and author of "Behind the Click," shares invaluable insights into the intersection of psychological principles and digital optimization. With a rich history of improving online brand experiences for giants like Adobe and Nike, MacDonald emphasizes the significance of understanding user psychology in design and product development. He argues for the removal of negative experiences from the internet (which keeps him busy), advocating for a holistic approach to customer experience that begins well before purchase. Through a mix of qualitative research and quantitative data analysis, including heat maps and eye tracking, MacDonald reveals how design heuristics, when grounded in psychological understanding, can significantly improve site usability, onboarding, and retention. The episode not only unpacks the tension between design and product teams but also offers strategies for alignment and empathy towards user goals and challenges. Key Takeaways: Common Problems Between Product and Design: Tensions between designers and product teams often arise from unclear roles and a lack of understanding about each other's decisions, making teamwork difficult. To improve this, align both teams on user and customer goals to improve collaboration. Additionally, bringing in a third party for an unbiased view can help solve misunderstandings and bring teams closer. Psychological Principles Behind Consumer Decisions: The discussion highlights how psychological concepts, like "heuristics," impact how consumers make quick decisions online. Jon stresses the importance of first impressions in digital spaces, noting that a bad initial experience can harm a brand's image long-term. Additionally, he mentions that consumers favor straightforward and concise information, suggesting the use of bullet points for clarity. Understanding these principles is crucial for creating intuitive and appealing digital experiences for users. How to Improve User Experience: Jon outlines steps to improve user experience, focusing on consumer research. He suggests monitoring user interactions on websites, conducting tests, and direct conversations to grasp consumer choices. He introduces the "coffee shop test," where a random person's feedback on an app or website is sought for intuitive understanding. Jon emphasizes ongoing optimization and regular engagement with users for external insights. The aim is to streamline the decision-making process for consumers by removing hurdles. ABOUT OUR GUEST: Jon MacDonald is the founder of The Good, a leading digital experience optimization firm known for achieving excellent results for some of the largest online brands, including Adobe, Nike, Xerox, and The Economist. His expertise lies in understanding consumer behaviors and preferences and leveraging this understanding to optimize digital experiences. Apart from being a seasoned entrepreneur, Jon is also an accomplished author, with three books on optimization under his belt. Failure is a way of learning." - Sean Gigremosa, Product Leader and CEO of Claritiv In this episode of Product Chats, we are joined by Sean Gigremosa, a product leader, agile expert, innovation enthusiast, self-described product management ninja and CEO and founder of Claritiv. The conversation delves into the challenges and opportunities in product management, the importance of understanding customer needs, and the role of AI in extracting valuable insights from conversations. Key Takeaways: Talking Points: The conversation emphasizes the crucial role that dialogue plays in acquiring knowledge and generating insights. Sean underscores that 70% of knowledge is learned through conversation. However, notes from a conversation are like a game of telephone where each summary incorporates layers of potential bias. This is an issue because the actual problem could get lost. That's why he started Claritiv – an AI powered tool that listens and analyzes conversations across clients, prospects, and departments, allowing you to both pull analysis on specific topics, and find out what emerging topics are important. Bias in Disguise: Sean shares the importance of removing personal bias in interpreting customer conversations, arguing that AI can provide a more objective analysis of these interactions. AI is only as good as the data being used to train, so believability and accuracy need to be regularly and continually reviewed. Just like children, AI can take on our biases. Digital Twins, Not Identical: Digital twins are extremely valuable for product managers due to their capacity for detailed simulation and scenario testing. A digital twin is a virtual model that replicates a physical product or system. It can be used to run simulations to predict how a product or system might behave under different conditions. Digital twins can also be used to model and understand user behavior, helping product managers to better design products that meet user needs. ABOUT OUR GUEST: Sean Gigremosa is a product leader with expertise in agile methodologies and a passion for innovation. His journey from product manager to CEO provides him with unique insights into the challenges and opportunities in the field. Known for his ninja-like approach to product management, Sean is the CEO and founder of Claritiv, a company that strives to extract valuable insights from conversations using AI. AI Has Entered the Chat: AI aids product managers in consolidating and analyzing data from various sources. AI can process information from different platforms like Zendesk tickets, App Store reviews, or interview data from tools like Dovetail, and surface up key insights. This ability helps product managers to have a comprehensive understanding of their product's performance, customer feedback, market trends, and more, leading to more informed decision-making. The Three Pillars of Product Ops: The conversation outlines the three foundational pillars of Product Ops: Business and Data Insights, Customer and Market Insights, and Processes and Procedures. These areas work together to make operations smoother, improve data analysis, and facilitate better strategic planning. In this episode, we share the audio from a breakout session at STS Rhode Island. One of New England's early settlers, Anne Bradstreet left behind her comfortable life in England for the wilderness of Massachusetts. Though she would become America's first published poet, her most important roles were as devoted wife, nurturing mother, and committed saint. Through infertility, loss, fear, and pain, Bradstreet demonstrated faith and faithfulness. Nearly 400 years later, let Bradstreet's life and poetry instruct you, her Christian sisters, how to live and minister in small-town New England. Heather Peets is a pastor's wife, mom of five, and teacher. She and her family live in Vermont where her husband pastors a small but committed congregation. For nearly fifteen years, Heather has served in educational ministry as a teacher in Christian colleges and schools. Currently, she teaches English at Mid Vermont Christian School where she enjoys sharing life lessons and theological truths through literature. Anne Bradstreet was the first woman to be recognized as an accomplished New World Poet. Her volume of poetry The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America ... received considerable favorable attention when it was first published in London in 1650. Eight years after it appeared it was listed by William London in his Catalogue of the Most Vendible Books in England, and George III is reported to have had the volume in his library. Bradstreet's work has endured, and she is still considered to be one of the most important early American poets.Although Anne Dudley Bradstreet did not attend school, she received an excellent education from her father, who was widely read— Cotton Mather described Thomas Dudley as a "devourer of books"—and from her extensive reading in the well-stocked library of the estate of the Earl of Lincoln, where she lived while her father was steward from 1619 to 1630. There the young Anne Dudley read Virgil, Plutarch, Livy, Pliny, Suetonius, Homer, Hesiod, Ovid, Seneca, and Thucydides as well as Spenser, Sidney, Milton, Raleigh, Hobbes, Joshua Sylvester's 1605 translation of Guillaume du Bartas's Divine Weeks and Workes, and the Geneva version of the Bible. In general, she benefited from the Elizabethan tradition that valued female education. In about 1628—the date is not certain—Anne Dudley married Simon Bradstreet, who assisted her father with the management of the Earl's estate in Sempringham. She remained married to him until her death on September 16, 1672. Bradstreet immigrated to the new world with her husband and parents in 1630; in 1633 the first of her children, Samuel, was born, and her seven other children were born between 1635 and 1652: Dorothy (1635), Sarah (1638), Simon (1640), Hannah (1642), Mercy (1645), Dudley (1648), and John (1652).Although Bradstreet was not happy to exchange the comforts of the aristocratic life of the Earl's manor house for the privations of the New England wilderness, she dutifully joined her father and husband and their families on the Puritan errand into the wilderness. After a difficult three-month crossing, their ship, the Arbella, docked at Salem, Massachusetts, on July 22, 1630. Distressed by the sickness, scarcity of food, and primitive living conditions of the New England outpost, Bradstreet admitted that her "heart rose" in protest against the "new world and new manners." Although she ostensibly reconciled herself to the Puritan mission—she wrote that she "submitted to it and joined the Church at Boston"—Bradstreet remained ambivalent about the issues of salvation and redemption for most of her life.-bio via Poetry FoundationFor further reading: a picture book about Bradstreet by one of her descendants Get full access to The Daily Poem Podcast at dailypoempod.substack.com/subscribe

This is Zack Fuss. Today we are breaking down Moody's Corporation. Moody's was founded by John Moody in 1909 with the idea of broadening access to credit information and codifying how people viewed credit statistics by producing manuals of stats related to bonds. In 2000, Moody's was spun off from Dun & Bradstreet as a separately traded public company. Today, it is nearly a $75 billion enterprise business, producing approximately $6 billion in revenue at 45 percent margins. To break down Moody's, I'm joined by Brian Yacktman, the Founder and President of YCG Investments. During this conversation we explore the business's origin story, how the financial crisis impacted the trajectory of the business, and the role that credit ratings play in the broader investment ecosystem. Please enjoy this breakdown on Moody's.
