Guests: Julia Oltmanns Ministry/Business: Zurich Resilience Solutions   The first picture we get of God in Genesis is as a worker, and since we are created in His image, we are also workers. Scripture makes it clear that God wants us to partner with Him in our work; however, conversations about faith at work often include concerns about how one can do it appropriately, if at all. The good news is, not only is it legal to bring your faith to work, but companies of all sizes across the country have Christian Employee Resource Groups to provide support and community for employees who want to honor God and do excellent work!  Julia Oltmanns is Director of DEI Services for Zurich Resilience Solutions, providing training and consulting for other companies. She was part of the team that launched Zurich N.A.'s GoodNewZ Christian Employee Resource Group in 2018. She described that experience as her “Esther moment” and a turning point in her faith. When Julia reviewed the Christian Employee Resource Group request, she felt God calling her to get involved. GoodNewZ provides leadership and career development as well as a weekly prayer meeting, Bible studies, and the opportunity to celebrate Christian holidays together. In addition, the group equips employees to live fully integrated lives. Julia recommends that if you want to see a Christian Employee Resource Group, the first step is to connect and pray with a couple of other Christians in your company. Resources from today's show: For Julia's CERG Tool Kit, email Martha Brangenberg at martha@iwork4him.com and she will put you in touch with Julia. The world is full of noise, and as Craig Groeschel says, “If the enemy can't destroy you, he will distract you.” In this power-packed show, the sheWorks4Him co-hosts discuss the resources and tools that help them quiet down and focus on the voice of the Holy Spirit. Guests: Rowlanda Cawthon Ministry/Business: Northwest University   Studies show that men and women generally demonstrate similar levels of ambition and talent as they start their careers. And although women tend to earn more advanced degrees than their male counterparts, men frequently gain more encouragement and support to pursue their ambitions in the workplace. Dr. Rowlanda Cawthon, the Dean of the College of Business at Northwest University, is an undeniably accomplished woman. In today's show, she talks with hosts Martha Brangenberg and Catherine Gates about advocating for yourself and others, the mysterious leading of the Holy Spirit, and trusting God in the face of opposition.  Dr. Rowlanda Cawthon worked in criminal justice for almost 11 years before she felt God leading her to go back to school to pursue teaching and a spiritual mentor confirmed the calling. So, she went back for her educational doctorate in organizational leadership – a choice that brought her to where she is today. The Lord has taken Rowlanda in directions she hadn't planned - getting her Ph.D., working in education - but as she looks back, she can see how God prepared the way. Rowlanda now wants to carry on the mantle that her spiritual director started, to encourage and inspire others to seek God and follow His lead, no matter where it takes them. Bringing your faith and your work into one vision to glorify the Lord is what we talk about in this episode of True North Business. I really enjoyed talking with Jim & Martha Brangenberg, who lead several ministries, the primary one I Work For Him (iwork4him.com). They share how they searched for many years for what God had planned for them and now help Christians across the country live out their faith at work. Jim and Martha have found many Christians, as I have, who believe they operate in two different worlds - one at work and the other at church. That is not the way God designed us, and I hope you will join me to hear great stories about people coming to understand this important principle better after visiting with the Brangenbergs. You can listen to and follow True North Business on Apple by clicking here, on Spotify here, on the Charisma Podcast Network, or any of the platforms where you typically listen to podcasts. Dealing With Tension In Marriage Caused By A Business – PowerCouplesByDesign.com

IF there is one thing that is certain, married couples who own a business have more stress to work through in their marriage than couples who do not. IT doesn't matter if both couples work in the business or not. When you own a business in your marriage IT impacts your marriage.  Marriage is work and we have addressed that many times on iWork4Him. If your marriage is struggling so does all of your life tend to be a struggle. If your marriage is a mess, it impacts everything you do & say. We as Jesus followers are supposed to be working on our marriages because they are to be a witness to our pre-believer friends all around us. Our marriages are to be a light. So how do we deal with the tension in our marriages caused by a business. Here to help us parse through the conversation is Robert and Kay Lee Fukui. They run a biznistry called PowerCouplesByDesign.comRobert and Kay Lee Fukui have a lot in common with Jim and Martha Brangenberg.  You've probably heard Jim and Martha talk about how work and marriage really affect each other and if one is stressed then it's all affected.  We can't just leave our marriage stress at the door when we come to work, especially if we work together.  Robert and Kay Lee developed their business out of necessity after seeing the struggle with work becoming the mistress in their homes growing up.  They decided to take the 2 year premarriage tools they learned and use them to help business owners strengthen their own marriages and build successful businesses.  What a fun chat this was to talk about marriage and business and how they can thrive, survive, or die. One of the most typical struggles this couples has dealt with is that couples work too hard and don't have great conflict resolution skills.  Learning how to leave work and resolve conflict can be keys to a thriving marriage and prosperous business.  They have developed an 8 step approach to this that they implement with every couple they work with. Robert and Kay Lee host a podcast – Power Up your Marriage and Business, and talk about all of these topics on a deeper level.  In fact they turned the tables and interviewed Jim and Martha for one of their future episodes. www.PowerCouplesByDesign.comSponsored by Belay  https://belaysolutions.com/iwork4him/Text:  4HIM to 55123 for your free monthly workflow downloadSponsored by GiANT https://GiANT.tv/iWork4Him

Special mid-show guest: Ted Hains Ministry/Workplace: The Pocket Testament League The concept and reality of retirement in the US is a rare social construct. The ability and the assumed right to be non-productive and still retain full social status in society is an American thing. Work is a way of providing for life expenses and retirement. The American perspective is that leisure is the extended right that should be available for all and supported by society. Each person in uniquely responsible for managing their retirement years. While retirement is represented to be a time divorced from financial and social stress, it is in fact the most complex time of life and is reported to be “not for sissies”. For the Christian, it is an even more complex time and Christ-followers are impacted by the culture and challenged by Jesus' commands.  Today we start a series exploring cultures impact on how we live in retirement compared to the Christian world view of living in retirement. We will be releasing this podcast series every other week. When we do, we will give you what you need to know and how we can respond as Christ-followers who affirm a lifestyle of iRetire4Him.  Here to work through the cultural impacts on retirement is  Bruce Bruinsma with www.RetirementReformation.org With Jim and Martha Brangenberg and Bruce and Judy Bruinsma

Here is one of our favorite episodes as we go into a series of encore interviews and daily devotionals through our summer break. Hope you enjoy this one again!     Combining Work with your Ministry:   Most of us struggle with the combination of our workplace and our ministry/church place. Even from the beginning, we are taught to keep those things separate. In this podcast, with Jim and Martha Brangenberg, we learn of the importance of combining these two seemingly separate lives into one, complete life.    Jim and Martha are both entrepreneurs and radio talk show hosts on iWork4Him. In this episode of the Follower Of One Podcast, Jim and Martha discuss their paths to iWork4Him and what it really means to have a marketplace ministry in today’s world.    Outline of This Episode: 6:00  – How things have changed for Jim and Martha  12:15 – Challenges by the Lord 14:00 – What more is there for me? 19:30 – Workforce and Leadership roles through Faith 23:35 – Everyone has a “workplace”  29:45 – What does it mean to be content with nothing?  34:35 – How to think about “work”   Building a Business on Your Faith: There are several protections in the workplace, one of them being your faith and religion. Jim and Martha talk about those protections sometimes being a roadblock to living your faith every day in the workplace. One of the key ways to accomplish this task is to hire people who do not believe in what you believe. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce what your belief in God really is, and allow them to be exposed to the type of passion and person you are today because of your faith. Everything you do becomes a chance to incorporate your faith.    Having a Marketplace Mindset: We have all been exposed to mission trips. These trips are by nature, short and in a different part of the world from where you are today. However, our jobs are not finished when we return back home. Jim and Martha talk about their goal to have everyone indulge in the “marketplace mindset”. This mindset is designed to show you that every day, anyone and everyone can be a minister in their daily lives. Just because you are not in the workforce does not mean that you don’t have the ability to be a minister. Listen as Jim and Martha explain what this means through first-hand stories. The opportunity is everywhere, we just need to recognize it.   Perspective on Contentment: What does being content really mean? Are we content with our lifestyle? Job? Faith? Everyone is on different paths in life and some are afforded more than others but including a perspective on contentment is key to understand the limits of your faith. How can we become content with nothing? Jim asks this in the podcast to add color to mission trip stories. Some people are more fortunate than others and Jim gets us thinking about how our resources might be better used if we have the ability to use them. Find out in this episode how Jim and Martha put contentment into perspective and what that means for us as we try to live our faith every day in the workplace, not just at church and on mission trips.    Connect with Jim & Martha: Website – iWork4Him Work4Him Blog Facebook Twitter Instagram iWork4Him Youtube Channel   Connect With Follower Of One Join us over in our Online Community, get social with us; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn and subscribe to our YouTube channel. It would be great if everyone in the world thought the same way we do, but it doesn't work like that. In this episode Jim and Martha talk to Mike about how 2021 is the new year for collaboration. Especially with all the difficulty we have faced over the past year and more, it is more imperative than ever to find common ground, common Christ support, and common objectives of living through Christ daily! How do we do that? Link up with Follower of One and iWorkHim to learn more!     Listening to Other Faith Stories    This is something we have talked about before and this still rings true as we move forward in the new year. Listening is one of the key skills, as Christians, we need to develop to become more like Christ. Christ was the best listener in the game and he did it with purpose and poise. We need others stories to help us think differently about all situations in life. Take action to listen on other's faith stories and learn from them. That is the key to collaboration, learning, growing, and become more like Christ every day!    Interview Quote   "God has allowed us each to have our own voice, and a lot of people are using that in the form of podcasting"   Connect with iWork4Him   iWork4Him Website iRetire4Him Awaken Podcast Network iWork4Him Podcast     Connect With Follower Of One   Join us over in our Online Community, get social with us; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn and subscribe to our YouTube channel. It spawned a whole new movement called the Faith@Work Movement. Hundreds of new ministries birthed during this time. Theologians call it common grace. God offers certain things to us simply because we're humans. We get gravity, nice weather, beauty. Other things he gives to some more than others, but the criteria for the gift is unknown to us. In this verse, Jesus uses these characteristics of God as a guide and a motivation for our behavior.   Why love your enemies? Because God does. Loving our enemies is something we do because we want to be like God and do what he says. But our natural state, or at least the state we're in between when we're born and when we begin following Jesus, we would never love our neighbors. We love ourselves. Everyone else is on their own at best or they're an obstacle, a hinderance.    One key difference between a Christ-follower and everyone else is that we watch over those who wouldn't go out of their way for us. Not only did God not kill us when we became his enemy, but he went to all of the trouble of dying on the cross for us. He went out of his way to do what was best for us even when we wouldn't swerve to miss him.    Do you have the courage to judge your own graciousness today? Mike talks about how giving grace is a challenge for him. Let's be honest and trust Jesus to use us to give grace because of what he did. Do you experience anxiety? As I've studied thankfulness and the practice of giving thanks of the last few days, I've noticed my own anxiety and fear more. Philippians 4:6 explains the relationship. When I ask God for things, I don't necessarily receive peace. In fact, my anxiety may even increase as I wait on God. It is only when I add the key ingredient, thanksgiving, that I receive his peace.   The antidote for anxiety, is to experience everything through talking to God, asking God for his answer, and also thanking him. Why thanksgiving? Because we need to remind ourselves He is in control. Giving thanks even for difficult things puts us back in the space where we trust God and rest in him. God's peace shows up when we add thanksgiving to our prayers and requests.   Today, let's focus on this key ingredient. What can you thank God for today, even though it may seem difficult? Is it a work complication or a health complication? Find a way to express your thankfulness and gratitude to God even as you pray that he would solve your dilemma. And let his peace fill you, and make him visible through you into the lives of others.   Please also check out our partner podcasts, the Morning Mindset with Carey Green and iWork4Him with Jim and Martha Brangenberg. Follower of One : Missions For The Rest Of Us

Today is the launch of the Marketplace Mission Trip. If you didn't get to sign up, you can hear some of what we discuss by listening to the podcast. We try to have a consistent message in every platform and channel.   There are 5 things every believer can do every day. The first one is pray. No matter what your job is, no matter where you work, or even if you're in job transition, you can pray. There are many things to pray for, but here the psalmist says he asks for one thing, that he may dwell in the house of the Lord all of his life. The psalmist wants to live with and know God.   Our first prayer is to tell God, "Here I am." As we go to work, let's head over to God's place and report for duty. He will put us to work. And as we work with him every day, no matter what our job is, we will know him better.   At Follower of One, we pray everyone trusts someone at work who follows and serves Jesus. Since you're that person for someone, ask God today how he wants you to show up. Who do you need to pray for? Where can you make a difference. God will put you to work. You are his Plan A and there is no Plan B.   And please don't forget to check out our partner podcast iWork4Him.com with Jim and Martha Brangenberg!

Our times are weary and burdened or heavy-laden. After 3 months of Coronavirus and weeks on years of racial tensions, I can understand if you feel weary and burdened. Yesterday a friend and I said we felt like we were moving in slow motion. It's like driving through a fog. You can't see so you don't go very fast. You won't have time to react. We hesitate to plan ahead, to hire people. Everything about the future seems more uncertain.   Jesus knew this would happen. That's why he gave us this passage. In other places, Jesus says we should follow him. Often that is literally "come after" me. But here, his offer is for us to come to him. Let's take our weariness and burdens to him. We take his yoke when we join him, and do what he says, one step at a time. Today, pray for someone outside your family. Reach out to an old friend. Do one thing more than yesterday to serve others. Coming to Jesus and doing what he says _is_ the answer to our present situation. And we know it.   Don't forget to check out our partner podcasts, Morning Mindset with Carey Green, Your Faith at Work with Ryan Howard, iWork4Him with Jim and Martha Brangenberg, and Platform 936 with Chad Balthrop and Chris Wall. After a profound revelation from having read a book by Dr. Jim Harris entitled Our Unfair Advantage, their heart is to show how Christians can use this “unfair advantage” in business and life through the supernatural guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Jim and Martha had been entrepreneurs for awhile, but after many years things changed profoundly for them when they had a revelation that their workplace and business is their mission field. Though neither of them had a background in radio or media, they share their story of the counterintuitive but Spirit-led journey that brought them into full-time marketplace missions by hosting their own radio show and podcast. They also share how their mutual gifts and strengths caused their marriage to be a synergistic Kingdom partnership in their business and ministry. iWork4Him's mission statement is “Transforming the workplace of every Christian into a mission field”. Jim and Martha Brangenberg co-host a radio show about marketplace ministry and bridging the gap between Sunday and the 9-5 work week. In this episode of Connecting Faith and Work they share practical ways to integrate your faith and work. Jim and Martha did not always have an integrated theology in regards to the connection between faith and work. "Early on in our marriage we were taught by other Christians around us that 'business is business and church is church. They have nothing to do with each other.'" - Jim Brangenberg Despite this divide between their faith and work, Martha shares that they weren't neglecting to fulfil their responsibilities at their jobs altough in looking back she sees there was a lack of purpose at work. "We believed in doing work with excellence and we did that. But we felt we had to hurry up and finish work so we could host Bible study, serve at church, etc. Our faith wasn't being activated in our 9-5 jobs." Jim and Martha are seeing that the marketplace ministry movement is not exclusive to just one area of work. All work matters to God whether you are a stay-at-home parent, a c-suite executive, or a small business employee. There are hundreds of books and organizations emerging all across the country and world to help equip Christians to bring their faith to work. What do you say to a compartmentalized person? - Ask how that is working for them? If Jesus cares about the details of our lives, He cares about our work. - Do you believe God gave your the skills you have? Do you believe He equipped you for your work? - How can you minister to the people around you at work? Jim shares that too many Christians have been taught they can live two lives: their church life and their other life. Becoming a Christian impacts every part of our life. Our lives are never the same after. We are impacted by who Jesus is. This must impact our 9-5 work. Finally, Jim and Martha share practical steps Christians can take to start integrating their faith and work. Learn more about iWork4Him by visiting their website: www.IWork4Him.com

Gifted with an attention to detail and a sweet sensitive spirit, Martha is a servant leader with a deep faith in Jesus. Martha has worked alongside Jim for their 32+ years of marriage hosting iWork4Him, a radio program designed for Christ-followers in the workplace. Together Jim and Martha are passionate about building strong marriages and regularly offer marriage retreats. They have three grown children and four grandchildren. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” — Romans 12:2 Her 5 top tips: 1. Prayer – Pray every single day. Pray FOR your family, your business, coworkers and employees, by name every day. Look for ways to pray WITH them. 2. Care – Encouraging you to find a way to serve your co-workers and employees. As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you, and even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. Galatians 4:13-14 3. Share – Be ready to share the hope that is in me, that is Jesus Christ. 4. Work with excellence – Are you working for the Lord? 5. Disciple – Share your life with others so they can learn. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Her bible verse for this season: Colossians 4:5-6 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
