In our Question Time podcast, Martin Lewis gives you answers on anything and everything, including: what are the financial benefits of marriage? We want to upsize to a bigger house; how do we know if we can we afford the bills? How do I deal with unfairness when investing for my children of different ages? We have a success, where our caller switched bank but was able to keep their linked regular saver. There's also an update to the “which student loan do I pay back first?” question from last week, and Martin's discovered a real problem with the answer! Plus, if Martin could go back in time, what event would he choose to go to, and why? If you want to ask Martin a question, you now can! His Question Time podcast lets you ask Martin absolutely anything and everything (within reason!). So, if you've always wanted to know if he's green-fingered, how many books he's read this year, or have a very complicated question about your finances, email it to MartinLewisPodcast@bbc.co.uk.

What makes you different? Do you have a concise and compelling answer to that question? When it comes to positioning, less is more. But too often, companies get wordy and convoluted, losing the plot in a sea of text. Emma and Adam Ketterer argue that true clarity comes from radical constraints. In their new book, Eight Words or Fewer, this marketing duo shares how to distill your difference into a single line that sticks: a micropitch. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why B2B companies naturally fall prey to the instinct that more must be better when defining their value proposition The strategic breakdown that occurs during the last mile of the positioning process and how to build for brevity from day one Tactical ways to overcome the anxiety of leaving things out by showing your stakeholder work and mapping customer journeys How to use a homeopathic distillation framework to create a micropitch that infuses everything from sales decks to homepages The creative and editorial realities of writing a pocket guide on concision as a married couple Episode Chapters (00:00) Intro (01:34) Why We Struggle with Brevity (03:27) Losing the Plot in the Positioning Process (06:44) Overcoming the Anxiety of Distillation (09:59) The Subline and Structure of Eight Words or Fewer (12:08) How to Kill Your Darlings (15:27) The Micropitch as a Brand Strategy Anchor (17:26) Collaboration and Constraint as a Married Couple (22:57) Finding Your Point of View and Conviction (25:38) Brands That Make Us Smile (27:50) Where to Connect with Emma and Adam About Emma and Adam Ketterer Emma Ketterer and Adam Ketterer are seasoned marketing professionals specializing in positioning, messaging, and content strategy for B2B technology companies. Emma brings extensive experience from both the agency and corporate sides, currently serving as the Global Lead Editor at Celonis. Adam is a co-founder of Beneath, a specialized B2B marketing agency. As a married couple, they blended their strategic and creative insights to co-author Eight Words or Fewer: Distil your difference into the perfect micropitch, a pocket guide exploring the critical intersection where strategic brand positioning meets ultra-concise writing. What Brands Have Made Emma and Adam Smile Recently? Emma found recent inspiration in the B2B tech space through GitHub's smart, witty, and exceptionally well-produced explainer videos. David McKnight kicks off this Power of Zero Show episode by stressing that, in his opinion, tax rates in the future are likely to be much higher than they are today. Why? Because the U.S. has a national debt that continues to grow at an alarming rate. It has hundreds of trillions of dollars in unfunded obligations for programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. At some point, the Government is going to need huge infusions of cash to meet such obligations. The so-called "Widow's Penalty" is a very compelling reason, David believes, to consider doing Roth conversions while today's tax rates are still around. And that's true even if you don't think that future tax rates will be higher than the current ones… David explains how, when a spouse passes away before the other, the surviving spouse often inherits a tax problem at a moment in life when they're least equipped to deal with it. The ugly truth is that, in many cases, surviving spouses earn nearly the same amount of income as before while being forced to operate within a less favorable tax framework. That means that income that previously fit comfortably inside the 24% tax bracket can suddenly spill over into the 32%, 35% or even 37% bracket! David touches upon the fact that one of the most important tax planning windows in their entire lifetime occurs during the years when both spouses are still alive and filing taxes jointly. Remember: this topic is crucial because tax consequences don't necessarily end with the surviving spouse. Whatever remains in your IRA may pass on to your children. David's advice is to move money slowly enough that you don't rise into a tax bracket that gives you heartburn, but quickly enough that you get all the heavy lifting done before tax rates go up for good. Father Ramil Fajardo joins Deacon Patrick Conley to discuss Marriage and Divorce: Building up and mending the Church Why is Marriage important for the Church? (12:31) what happens to marriages that don’t work? (16:58) Bai - I run an organization that helps people with marriage after divorce. We teach divorce is a great offense. What about no-fault divorce? Distinction between way state views it vs church. Seems to be a silence about this in the public arena. John - I'm married 60 years this October. Quality in and quality out. Until you find that quality person, you're probably not ready for marriage. Negative comments...cutting remarks...when we do that, it hurts them and not a good way to start a marriage. Build each other up not down. (25:07) Break 1 (27:10) Michelle - My husband an I celebrating 40 years. His family thought it wouldn't last. Love (caritas) change a couple of letters and it becomes charity. Be forgiving, gratitude, establish traditions, patience. Laughter...it can be witty, silly, between the 2 of you. Look for the positives. There will be challenges. (30:42) Patrick - Vocations crisis. Any thought if there's a parallel between that and divorce rate in broken families? Divorce rate equals vocations crisis. John Farrell on X - How can *any* divorce be natural? (39:02) Break 2 Can separation ever be a good idea among Married Couples? (44:03) Olga -My parents divorce when I was 18. We moved to the US. After I got married, having trouble coping with this divorce. How can I overcome what my parents did? I'm trying to keep my marriage alive.

In just a few weeks, millions of Americans will celebrate the Fourth of July with their families and friends at barbecues, parades and outdoor concerts under fireworks. This year’s celebrations will take on added significance as our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of its independence. As we approach this historic milestone, “Think Out Loud” hears from guests whose life experiences and personal histories illuminate different aspects of what it means to be an American. We start by hearing from Bryan and Michelle Stewart, a married couple in Battle Ground, Wash. Bryan and Michelle retired as colonels in the U.S. Army after nearly 60 years of combined service at military bases in the U.S and abroad. They both served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bryan was also deployed to the NATO headquarters in Belgium. Michelle worked in Bosnia, where she helped identify mass grave sites and assisted with the U.S.-led effort to end the war. She also served as the Chief of Staff at Arlington National Cemetery. Michelle and Bryan Stewart join us to talk about how their military service has shaped their views on patriotism, sacrifice and our country's founding ideals.

Welcome back to The Pre Nup, the podcast where we talk honestly about love, weddings, and everything in between. This week, Adriana sits down with Dr. Love Lea — an Ivy League-trained couples therapist with a PhD in clinical sexology — to talk about the part of getting married no one prepares you for: the actual marriage. We spend so much time obsessing over the dress, the venue, and the seating chart — but how much time are couples actually spending preparing for life after "I do"? Dr. Love Lea breaks down why premarital coaching can lower your odds of divorce by 31%, what to actually talk about before you walk down the aisle, and why the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset is one of the biggest threats to a modern marriage. From intimacy and communication to conflict, money, in-laws, and the conversations most couples are too scared to have — Dr. Love Lea brings real, modern, judgment-free advice that meets couples where they're at. Whether you're religious, spiritual, secular, or somewhere in between, this episode is a must-listen for anyone who's engaged, newly married, or dating with intention. If you're searching for premarital counseling tips, advice for engaged couples, or how to build a marriage that actually lasts — this episode is for you. Episode Highlights • Why couples spend $35K on the wedding and $0 on the marriage — and how Dr. Love Lea wants to flip that • The statistic every engaged couple needs to hear: how premarital coaching cuts divorce risk by 31% • Premarital counseling vs. religious pre-Cana: what's the difference and do you need both? • The "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" myth and why it's quietly hurting your relationship • How often healthy couples are actually having sex (and why quality beats quantity) • The fights that seem stupid but mean something deeper • How to have hard conversations without making your partner feel attacked • Why Dr. Love Lea treats the relationship as one body — not two sides • Wedding vendor tip: why an extra pair of comfortable shoes is non-negotiable on your wedding day Find Dr. Love Lea: Instagram: @DrLoveLea / Website: drlovelea.com

How do you end up going into business with your life partner? For Paula and Justin King, the couple behind Rexhill Studio, the decision came many years after they first met, as their separate interests and skillsets gradually converged in their adopted home city. Paula grew up in NJ, attended NYU and lived in the East Village in the 90s. Justin grew up in Ohio, took an early interest in art and dreamed of escaping the Midwest. They both ran away to the West Coast, each for their own reasons, and met in Portland where they lived for years before moving back East and putting roots down in Beacon. Over time they realized they had complementary skills - Justin a woodworker of steadily improving ability, Paula a gifted interior designer with the operational knowledge to maintain books and oversee a shop. Thus was born Rexhill, a mom-and-pop cabinetry and interior design studio that has found a niche by resisting the prevailing forces of our economy. In an age when most manufacturing is modular and mass produced, Justin and Paula have embraced a way of working that is custom and small-scale and local. And they've done it together while raising kids, something common in bygone times but very rare these days.

While we always start with the Blueprint, there are practical, "common grace" habits that help a household hum. Andrea shares her top pick for a secular principle that actually aligns with biblical stewardship and why even the best advice fails if it's not anchored in the right Mission. When have you had to let go of resisting suffering in the past? Where in your life, marriage, or relationships do you feel stalled? How is God inviting you to prioritize Him over your marriage, relationships, and responsibilities? Quotes to Ponder: "It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; he is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; he is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is he who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is he who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is he who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be grounded down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal." (Pope John Paul II, World Youth Day, Rome, 2000) Scripture for Lectio: "Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer." Most couples don't need more effort… They need more space. Space to breathe. Space to feel. Space to actually experience each other again. In this episode of Reignite: Love, Sex & Truth for Conscious Couples, we, together with Mike and Courtney from The Sacred We podcast, explore how speed, stress, and constant doing quietly disconnect relationships… and why slowing down can restore intimacy, safety, and desire. They share the deeper reason many loving couples feel far apart… and simple shifts that help you reconnect emotionally, physically, and relationally. What You'll Hear in This Episode: Why does doing more often create more tension in relationships How speed and survival mode slowly disconnect loving couples Why does the connection happen through safety and presence, not pressure How slowing down transforms intimacy and desire What are the nervous system patterns underneath conflict and shutdown What are the simple ways to reconnect and create space together now You don't need a new relationship. You may need a new pace. When you slow down enough to truly meet each other…connection returns, conflict softens, and love becomes accessible again
In response to a question at the Open Forum about married couples having separate bank accounts, I explain that there shouldn't be separate bank accounts—everything financially should be completely unified. It is part of being in total oneness in marriage. However, as I've gotten older, I've started to realize that oneness has different levels, and not everyone is ready to fully walk in that ideal. For some couples, maintaining separate bank accounts might actually be what brings peace into their home. Even if it's not the highest expression of unity, it can still serve a practical purpose in their relationship. It's not as if there's a strict rule that says couples must share the same bank account. At the same time, I do believe that living completely separate financial lives will eventually impact the unity of a marriage. Still, for some people, having that separation might be what helps them stay together, at least for a season. Sometimes there are bigger issues that need attention first before tackling something like merging finances. __________ Partner with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/partner Connect with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com Leave a Comment: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/comments __________

There's a moment in many relationships… and it's not loud, dramatic, or explosive. It's quiet. In this episode of Reignite: Love, Sex & Truth for Conscious Couples, we explore the relationship reckoning that happens when the distractions fade… the kids leave… the chaos settles… and you're left facing each other again. They break down the patterns couples fall into during these life transitions… and what it actually takes to reconnect, rebuild, and consciously choose each other again. What You'll Hear in This Episode: What happens when the “quiet moment” occurs, where relationships are revealed, and why most couples aren't prepared for it When parenting was the glue, and now there's distance How fear-based relating and overcorrection create disconnection in the second or even third relationship Why does it feel so unsafe for both partners when only one has their foot in Why desire fades and how it's directly linked to communication and emotional safety What intentional dating actually looks like This moment in your relationship…isn't the end. It's the exposure. The invitation to ask: Do we still choose each other? And if the answer is yes… There is so much that can be rebuilt. Because when you lean in consciously…connection can return, respect can deepen, and desire can come back online

The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
In this Wednesday Q&A episode, Uncle Joe and I respond to a powerful question from a dad who's struggling with impulsive reactions, shutting down during conflict, and feeling like he can't get out of the same argument patterns with his wife. If you've ever caught yourself reacting instead of listening, or walking away from conversations feeling frustrated and disconnected, this episode will hit close to home. We unpack the truth that two things can be true at the same time—both partners can be overwhelmed, both can be carrying heavy loads, and both can feel unseen. The key isn't competing over who has it harder; it's learning how to step out of the competition and into collaboration. We talk about how to create psychological safety during hard conversations, how to interrupt unhealthy patterns, and why curiosity is far more powerful than defensiveness. Uncle Joe also shares a powerful perspective about what he calls the "rucksack principle"—taking an honest inventory of what you're carrying and being willing to sacrifice things that may be important to you but aren't serving the health of your marriage or family. If you're feeling overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck in recurring conflict, this episode offers practical tools and a new perspective on leadership at home. Timeline Summary: [1:01] Wednesday Q&A kickoff with Uncle Joe and the Dad Edge community [2:00] Listener question about impulsive reactions, yelling, and shutting down in marriage [4:45] The powerful truth that two things can be true at the same time [5:56] The "100-pound rucksack" analogy for overwhelm in marriage [7:50] How to interrupt the conflict cycle with a new conversation approach [10:00] Creating psychological safety by changing physical positioning in conversations [13:20] Uncle Joe's perspective on inspecting your own "rucksack" first [16:00] What real love looks like: patience, sacrifice, and humility [21:30] The power of daily journaling and reflection to improve emotional awareness [24:00] Why most men struggle with relationships because of a skill gap—not bad intentions Five Key Takeaways Two things can be true at the same time—both partners can feel overwhelmed and still need support. Competing over who has it harder only deepens conflict in marriage. Psychological safety is created through curiosity, listening, and calm tone—not defensiveness. Great leadership in marriage starts by examining your own "rucksack" first. Most relationship struggles come from a skill gap—not a lack of love or commitment. Links & Resources Roommates to Soulmates Cohort & Preview Call: https://thedadedge.com/soulmates Episode Shownotes: http://thedadedge.com/1450 Closing If you've been feeling reactive, overwhelmed, or stuck in the same conflict patterns at home, remember this: leadership in marriage starts with self-awareness. Start by checking your own rucksack. Get curious instead of defensive. Create space for real conversations instead of competition. If this episode resonated with you, make sure you rate, review, follow, and share it with another dad who needs to hear it. Go out and live legendary.
If you're married, your Social Security claiming strategy is not just about your benefit — it's about protecting your spouse's income for life. In this video, I'll explain the most overlooked Social Security rule for married couples and how it can dramatically affect the surviving spouse's financial security. Many retirees don't realize that when one spouse passes away, one Social Security check disappears. The surviving spouse only keeps the larger of the two benefits, which means the higher earner's claiming decision may be the most important Social Security decision you make.Using a real-life style example, Kevin walks through how delaying Social Security can significantly increase the survivor benefit, potentially adding thousands of dollars per month for the spouse who lives the longest. He also explains why couples who claim too early may unintentionally reduce the surviving spouse's income during the most financially vulnerable years of retirement. However, this strategy doesn't apply to everyone. I'll also share three situations where it may actually make sense to ignore the typical advice to delay Social Security, including health considerations, investment strategies, and withdrawal rate concerns. If you are within 5–10 years of retirement, married, and have saved $1M or more, this Social Security strategy could have a major impact on your long-term retirement income plan. Are you interested in working with me 1 on 1? Does the Bible say anything more about sex than "thou shalt not"? From married couples using natural family planning or struggling with infertility to single women noticing elevated estrogen and sexual desire around ovulation, it's worth it to explore what role sex could play in our lives not only physically but spiritually. Today, Dr. Juli Slattery from Authentic Intimacy joins Caitlin to talk about these things and describe the beautiful narrative around sex laid out for us in Scripture. This episode is not just for married couples or those who are sexually active, but all believers who want to dive deeper into understanding how our sexuality reflects our faith. NOTE: This episode may not be appropriate for all audiences due to the topic, which openly discusses sex and sexuality. GUEST BIO: Dr. Juli Slattery is the president and co-founder of Authentic Intimacy, a ministry helping women and people overall make sense of God and sexuality.
