What do the beers discussed on this week's episode of Domestic Pints ONLY have in common? Well, two are lagers... but one is a pilsner, so... hmm anyways these bottles and cans are known for their green labelling and design. We begin with a yizner fav: ROLLING ROCK. The next two beers are two of the most popular independently brewed beers in Canada, STEAM WHISTLE PILSNER and MOOSEHEAD LAGER (yes, both of these companies have escaped the clutches of InBev and Miller Coors). Compared to the previous episode, this one was a lot more jovial as we shared a lot of fun history and experiences. Enjoy! RUN Medal Chasers has introduced a virtual race series dedicated to supporting some great charities as well as some of our favorite Marvel heroes! So we had to run a few of the races while we were visiting Walt Disney World. The Boardwalk and Epcot resort area is one of our favorite places to run. We did the "Ready.Aim.Run 5K" as our second race in that area while we were at Disney in September. This is the one we ran for time, so we ran separately but Dana was there to cheer me on at the end in addition to the random strangers applauding us! The race was hot and humid but the scenery was amazing. The charity attached to this one is Kidz Outdoors. This organization connects families through outdoor activities and raises funds for children battling diseases like cancer. We were so happy to support a great organization and to run a Hawkeye-themed race... plus the medal lights up! So fun! EAT It is no secret that one of our favorite areas in Epcot is Canada... that’s right... Canada! But we’ve never been to Le Cellier Steakhouse. Until September! We snagged a lunch reservation, but it was such an indulgent meal that we split an appetizer, entree, side, and dessert. Beef Bourguignon Poutine was an amazing starter. So rich and tasty, it is a must when coming here. Aimee loves steak... ribeye is her favorite cut! This version did not disappoint. The potato salad was warm, and a unique take for us that we want to try to reproduce at home! The Maple Whiskey-glazed Brussels Sprout enhancement we ordered was sweet and tender. Maple Crème Brûlée ... a yummy dessert!! DRINK Le Cellier Steakhouse gave us the chance to try new beverages in Canada too! Especially because we could walk back to our hotel! Normally we drink Moosehead Lager after a race or indulge in La Fin Du Monde if we are in the mood for a beer that packs a punch! But this meal gave us the chance to try a classic Canadian Cocktail, the Caesar. It is related to a Bloody Mary but includes clam juice... trust us; it does not taste like seafood! It is delightfully spicy with a horseradish and Tabasco kick... Dana had a classic version with vodka, and Aimee had a version with Canadian whiskey! Try this at brunch sometime or when you are at Le Cellier Steakhouse if you get a chance. RUN We ran the RunDisney Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon this week. We made it fun by dressing up in our Jedi Robes and carrying our light sabers. We report on our virtual race as well as participating in a fun Instagram #bringdisneyhomechallenge with Steph from just.take.a.dip, Amelia from the.disneydarling, Joe from dizhiz65, and Niels from capturingdisneyparks. Plus we highlight a headlamp that helped us get out there at 5am, much like we would at a RunDisney race. You can find out more about it and pick it up here if you need a little gear to keep you safe: Black Diamond Spot Headlamp We finished off the run with a Moosehead Lager as per our RunDisney race tradition that we would head to Canada in the World Showcase at Epcot. We talk about what makes this taste like victory to us! We want this show to continue to be an hour of the day that you can enjoy and that allows to have an escape from the stressors of the current situation, so we will keep bringing you our training updates as well as asking you to share yours, new race gear we are trying out that may be great for a run, virtual races we are running in our neighborhood, and special interviews that inspire will inspire all of us to keep going! EAT This week we highlight a local food truck that has just gotten off the ground but is putting food out there that makes our mouth water just talking about it. The Death By Taco 239 Food Truck is a spot that you should visit - they are slinging dynamite take-out tacos out there at Nice Guys Pizza every Monday night and may be doing a bit more throughout this week given the current circumstances. If you are local, consider supporting them while having amazing food. If not, this is just a highlight for when you come visit us in the Southwest Florida area. We will meet you there ANYTIME! DRINK During the drink portion of our show, we want to tell you about our favorites from our beer chat earlier this week because they are beers you should be able to get from your local package store or wherever beer is sold. Green Bench Postcard Pils and Cigar City Tampa-Style Lager were among them. We also included Untitled Art’s Peanut Butter Cup Stout and Prairie Artisan Ale’s Birthday Bomb! as favorites from our beer chat. THAT’S A WRAP! Got a race to share? A great place to eat in your hometown? Know of a great bar or brewery we should feature on the show? Want to tell part of your running story? Share it with us and the runcation nation! Our email is info@runeatdrink.net. Or you can call 941- 677-2733. FANS: Actress and L.A. clown scene staple Helene Udy is our bloody valentine this week, as we talk about her roles in early Canadian genre films, meeting and working with Jim Carrey on the set of his first film Rubberface, her stint as Myra on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, the weird and wild world of clowns and cabarets, upcoming indie horror projects, and much more! FILMS: Helene Udy was Sylvia in our film our of the week: My Bloody Valentine (1981), and boy does she love this movie! We reminisce without her about her penchant for screaming, Moosehead Lager, the practical locations of Nova Scotia, the Gordon Lightfoot-esque 'Ballad of Harry Warden,' the surprisingly unpredictable answer to the whodunit mystery, the lack of a sequel, and the sheer Canadian branding that exudes from this wonderful early slasher. FINDS: RIP Kirk Douglas and talk of The Final Countdown (1980), Goliath Season 4 news, Brandon Cronenberg's new body horror film with Sean Bean, Chris Rock & Samuel L. Jackson in Spiral (2020), the new entry in the Saw series + JLo's butt.

RUN In this episode, we celebrate the completion of our RunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. We ran around Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Hollywood Studios has some of our favorite rides! Rockin' Rollercoaster, Star Tours, and the new Slinky Dog Dash! EAT We visited Australia for a really delicious lamb chop with mint pesto and potato crunchies! Awesome! It is a staple of the festival and one you should try in 2019 if it returns! DRINK We love the Canada booth at Epcot Food and Wine Festival and featured it last year. This time we celebrated our accomplishment with one of our favorite beers from Canada. It was Moosehead Lager! It was a refreshing and low ABV beer. Light and not hoppy, it was a great way to toast and celebrate! THAT'S A WRAP Thank you for watching! Here's hoping for a great second year of the podcast because of all your support! Earlier this week the United States and her sister to the north, Canada, managed to avoid a cataclysmic trade war when the two nations grudgingly came to an agreement on revisions to the all-important NAFTA treaty. In celebration of this news we’re talking about a beer that, while making up only about 4% of the Canadian domestic market, is still favored by Willie Nelson and Michael J. Fox, the beer used to toast the successful testing of the renowned Canada arm that adorned Space Shuttle for decades, a beer identified with fishermen and loggers in the great Canadian northeast. Its story begins in 1867 with the founding of Army & Navy Brewery in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The founder, John Oland, died only three years later, and thus the brewery was renamed after his wife and fellow English émigré, Susannah. Delicious beers were brewed by S. Oland & Sons in Dartmouth until 1928 when the founder’s grandson moved the brewery to St. John and changed its name to New Brunswick Brewery. This name in turn stuck until just after the Second World War when it was once more renamed, this time losing the regional appellation and acquiring one that referred to upper body anatomy of a ruminant mammal.First imported to the United States in 1978, the brand was so exceptionally successful that the brewers had to radically expand its brewing capacity by 1985, the year it launched in the United Kingdom and became the fourth most consumed import beer in the United States.Today’s beer is the largest brewery wholly owned by Canadian interests, a beer made by a company that survived the infamous Halifax explosion, a beer embroiled in a notorious ax murder, and a beer at the center of Guy Ritchie-esque heists. That’s right folks, today, on Pickled Eggs & Cold Beer, we’re talking about Moosehead Lager. http://www.pickledeggsandcoldbeer.com
This was a tough episode for me to do because of how the race turned out for me. I had surgery for a torn meniscus, and I had not done the work of losing the weight for this race, so my knee decided not to cooperate this time around. A sad result, but I will come back next year and fight for redemption using the lessons I learned this year. But, it is a race that everyone should know about and if you love to Run, Eat, and Drink, like I do, hence the podcast, then the Epcot Food and Wine Festival and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend are events you should check out! In this episode, we recap the race, and show for the first time on a RunDisney race course, Pandora in Animal Kingdom, which was just beautiful. We wanted to complete the other 3 miles to earn the half marathon medal that they gave us, even though we could not earn the challenge medal. So we were off to the World Showcase at Epcot and we walked it three times to complete the rest of “our race.” That gave us the chance to share the beer cheese soup from Canada and Moosehead Lager with you. They are amazing samplings from the Food and Wine Festival. We have others to come in upcoming Quick Bites. It was an amazing time and I highly recommend RunDisney weekends. They may be pricey, but the course through the parks, the characters on the course, the entertainment, and the bling are all reasons to consider a runcation at Walt Disney World in Orlando. That is why I featured this race, despite what happened. Here's a look at the course: So, thanks for watching. Be sure to subscribe and rate us on iTunes. I'd love to hear your feedback and it helps us get discovered by others who might want to check out the places where we run, eat, and drink. Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Or be sure to visit the website at www.runeatdrink.net.
