Kurze Updates zu Doom: The Dark Ages, Split Fiction und einem Fehlkauf namens Deliver At All Costs. The Lord of the Rings Online. Guten Appetit!

Former FBI Supervisory Special Agent Miguel Clarke joins hosts James Maude and Marc Maiffret to reflect on 25 years at the front lines of cybersecurity. From coding in BASIC on his Commodore 64 to helping uncover the digital trail behind 9/11, Miguel shares raw, behind-the-scenes stories of how real cyber investigations unfold. In this episode, you'll hear how a casual beer in Nebraska sparked a career in federal law enforcement, why psychology plays a critical role in executing search warrants, and how early cyber sleuths tracked international hackers with nothing but screen scrapes and UUencoded files. Miguel also takes us deep inside the Swedish secret police operation that caught the infamous Csaba Richter hacker, explores the rise of Eastern Europe's cybercrime economy, and breaks down the forensic breakthroughs that helped investigators piece together one of the most pivotal events in modern history. 00:00 - Introduction and Welcome 01:32 - Early Technology Interest with Commodore Computers 03:24 - System Shock and the $2,100 Computer Upgrade Nightmare 05:22 - Gaming Influence on Career Path and FBI Power Dynamics 06:42 - The Beer That Started an FBI Career 10:03 - FBI Training and Imposter Syndrome at Quantico 14:11 - Sales Skills Meet FBI Investigation Work 18:04 - Search Warrant Psychology and Family Dynamics 24:08 - The Chaba Richter International Cyber Case 27:38 - Eastern European Cybercrime Economy Theory 31:51 - Evolution from Website Defacements to Nation-State Attacks 36:24 - Digital Aspects of 9/11 Investigation 42:25 - 9/11 Digital Forensics and HTML Tag Discovery 47:56 - Transition from FBI to Private Sector 51:32 - Leadership Philosophy and Closing Thoughts

Today, we're navigating shifting gravity and even shakier development timelines as we dive into Prey, the 2006 sci-fi shooter that took over a decade—and four complete overhauls—to reach players. We begin by exploring the ambitious origins of the original Prey, from 3D Realms' early aspirations for a revolutionary 3D engine to a series of failed prototypes, engine rewrites, and studio shakeups. Then, we follow the game's surprising resurrection at Human Head Studios, tracing how Cherokee mythology, alien abductions, and groundbreaking mechanics came together in a game that wowed critics and sold over a million copies. Finally, we chart the messy road to Prey 2, its abrupt cancellation, and the eventual reboot by Arkane Studios in 2017—a spiritual successor that channeled System Shock and Dishonored into something entirely new. So grab your spirit bow and prepare to walk the walls on today's gravity-defying trip down Memory Card Lane! Find out more at https://a-trip-down-memory-card-lane.pinecast.co

Is your PlayStation 5 about to break? Probably not, but speculation is increasingly circulating suggesting that the old run of PS5s -- pre-Slim and pre-Pro -- may start running into a 'liquid metal' problem that's causing issues for some players. What does this all mean, from where does this speculation stem, and what (if anything) can be done about it? We discuss in detail. Plus: Death Stranding 2 is out, and thus it's time for us to gush! Then: The other news of the week, including Hellblade II's PS5 release date, rumors of RPG progression systems in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, PlayStation Plus turns 15, SEGA accidentally leaks a ton of sales data, and more. Finally: Listener inquiries. What's the best 'one-hit wonder' game? With PlayStation: The Concert coming Stateside, do we have any interest in attending? Which studio's three-game run is most impressive, quality-wise? Will you, too, find a Sacred Symbols shirt in your local Goodwill or Salvation Army? Hey, everybody! Sid and Tim are back this week to discuss the foundation System Shock 2 laid for gaming generations to come, recap what the team saw at Summer Game Fest, and their latest gaming adventures.
In a charmingly enthusiastic yet inevitably dangerously incomplete fashion, your Noob Talk Radio hosts are here to try and make sense of the cornucopia of games advertised and announced at this year's Summer Games Fest. Pioner, Holstin, Mina the Hollower, ILL, Dying Light The Beast, Onimusha, Resident Evil 9, System Shock 2 Remaster, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls, and more! Please be excited.
In this Deep Dive bonus interview, Nightdive's Locke Vincent sits down with Mauricio Tejerina, 3D artist on System Shock 2 at Irrational Games. Topics include how Mauricio first got involved with Irrational Games, what it was like as a 3D artist on a video game in the late 90s, art direction in System Shock 2, and more!

This has been an exciting week in Sacred Symbols World. We're riding high off of our two hour interview with ex-Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida, and we're eager to reminisce and reflect on it. (You can watch or listen for yourself on Sacred Symbols+.) But as far as news is concerned? Well, this week is a little slower than most, which is why we packed extra listener inquiries into the show, and still covered what was there: Fresh rumors of a Tony Hawk 3+4 Remastered Collection, leaker updates concerning Square Enix's remakes of Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics, clarity on HBO's seasonal plans with The Last of Us, the potential emergence of a major Rainbow Six Siege update, and much more. As usual, we then round things out with listener inquiries on a variety of subjects. What are our thoughts about the recent layoffs on the Marvel Rivals team? Does SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku run the risk of overexposing the Yakuza/Like A Dragon franchise? Why are many creators so eager to politically and socially alienate their audiences? Is Colin on the verge of converting to Islam? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. This week, Xbox unveiled MUSE, a generative AI model aimed at boosting creativity and possibilities for gameplay. Published in the journal Nature as well as announced by Microsoft Research, the Xbox team shared findings alongside Ninja Theory on what this new AI model that was trained on Bleeding Edge could accomplish. In the extensive write-ups, we learn about the principles of this AI model, what Xbox's mandate is for it across their first party studios, and even get teased a bit on what it could mean for backwards compatibility. However, is it all sunshine and roses here for Xbox's new approach to game development? The push for AI is on more than ever and it's no longer a matter of "if" but rather "when." Like any tool, its public perception will be dictated by how responsibly it is handled. Joining Matty this week is Brad, to clean up the AI mess, and dive into a whole bunch of other Xbox news. We follow up our last episode's conversation on Avowed, dig into the future of Obsidian, mull over yet another Phil Spencer interview, and plenty more in what is bound to be divisive subject for many listeners.
