“Life Situations” May Cause a Focus on Yourself; but a Prayer Focused on Yourself and Not Considering Others' Needs Constrains Your Prayer Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY: When you are experiencing a "life situation" AND you stop just focusing on yourself and your situation, then you can enter prayerful communion with God. In your personal relationship with God and your communion with God, He will tell you how to pray for your "situation". As James tells us in James 1:5-6: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.". Pray always; be consistent in your prayers. Do not give up on God; do not doubt the power of your prayer; and pray in faith. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I thank you that you are working even when I am sleeping. Teach me to respect the built-in rhythms of life, and to live from a place of deep rest in you. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 127). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, Nothing compares with knowing Jesus. (Philippians 3:7f). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Ephesians 5:20-21; Romans 1:16-17; James 1:5-6; Psalms 109b:16-31. Wilma Wake was diagnosed autistic in her mid 60s. Now 74, she lives in Maine in the United States, where she is a licenced clinical social worker and retired ordained minister. Despite working with autistic people, she never thought she might be autistic herself until she read a book that changed her life. She became active in an autistic adults' peer support group after her diagnosis, and is now co-facilitator of the group. Her social work practice is devoted primarily to working with older autistic adults, neurodiverse couples, and autistic children and their families. She is committed to helping train other service providers to work with autistic adults. She has a doctorate in Feminist-Liberation Theology and and a PhD in Social Foundations of Education, and has recently published a book co-authored with two other autistic adults, Older Autistic Adults in their Own Words: The Lost Generation. In our conversation we talk about: ➡ Getting an autism diagnosis later in life ➡ The power of support groups ➡ Being an autistic therapist ➡ The unique experiences of older autistic adults ➡ ‘Coming out' as autistic - being prepared, and political and social parallels with coming out as LGBT+ Squarepeg is a podcast in which neurodivergent women, and trans and nonbinary people, explore navigating a neurotypical world and share their insights, challenges and successes. If you were asked to name the profession of a person described as "Indecisive, wishy-washy, seems confused about the truth, a real not-my-problem kind of guy," would you pick "politician" pretty quickly? Yeah, well, you'd be right.

Mark Twain famously said "when you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect." Naturally, there are times when the majority is right. The encouragement from Twain is to ask ourselves, "am I doing this because it's what God wants, or am I doing it because it's comfortable?" Today we study the 12 spies who were sent to scout out the Promised Land. 2 came back and said "with God's help, we can win," but 10 said "there are too many obstacles." Relying on what they could see instead of relying on God's promise caused a huge storm and a heavy punishment, and frankly, the same may be true of us today. Join Pastor Greg as we dive into this story and see what God's response is to our doubt.

Others' opinions of you might be right. They also might be wrong. That's on you to decide. Others' opinions matter only as much as you let them. What strengths, weaknesses, beauty, and flaws do they see in you? Do you agree or disagree? What are you going to do about it? Make a big change? Take a small step? Nothing at all? Your life is yours alone. Make sure you're the one living it. You've got this.
"Psychology Today" offers the 'helpful' advice that you should just accept that things are going to be terrible and that you may as well put the "fun" into being "dysfunctional." What?! At what point does God say "well, you'd better just learn to live with it"? Where in Scripture (or ANYWHERE) does God say "you were designed to be broken"? We were made to inherit a perfect creation. Dysfunction is not the plan. Today we dig into one of the greatest stories of a wondering wanderer, Lot, and how his choices create discord, disharmony, and dysfunction in his family. We also dig into why those choices were made and how we can learn to re-function and function well after dysfunction strikes (spoiler alert: give it to God).
Mike continues our series '1 Thessalonians', looking at how we can strengthen and encourage each other through consistent prayer, and how our love for one another is a witness to those who don't know Jesus.

Usually when we say someone made a "mighty big mistake," we aren't actually talking about someone who was mighty. Not so, today. We're diving into Samson's story: how God made use of his weaknesses, and how his weaknesses teach us to rely on God.

There are two ways to think about growth: what do you want more of, and what do you want less of? We've spent the last few weeks, as a church, exploring the greatest-of-all-time disciple, prophet, believer, and more, as inspiration and models. Now, we explore the other side of the coin: the mistakes of literally Biblical proportions. We aren't pulling punches, either: today's story is one of the hardest to swallow. Some people lied, and God struck them dead. Why? How could He? How does He have the right? Pastor Greg explores these questions in depth as we discover what we can learn from their mistakes. Today's Scriptures: Acts 5 1-11 // Isaiah 55:8-9 // Acts 4:32-37 // Acts 5:12-16

Is it true that to come out of pandemic time better than we went in, we must allow ourselves to be touched by others’ pain? Our show pushes back against the unexamined, often unconscious ways that we frame public questions using political or economic modes of thinking. We aim to be part of a growing movement of people who are critical of the narrowness of political and economic categories, and who want to revive a vision of human flourishing that is grounded in the wisdoms of theological and moral philosophical tradition. We see these habits and ways of thinking as being pre-political, and foundational to a healthy and civil shared life in families, communities, economies, and polities. In short, we want to foster conversations, develop habits, and create communities that are grounded in curiosity, going deep, and shining light. One of the greatest intimacies we can share with another is the be present with them in their pain. What does it look to do this, to witness to someone, affirming their pain as real and the presence of God with them as real, too? Join us Sunday as Pastor Sara leads us, looking to scripture, science, and our lived experience to shape how we witness to the suffering of others.
Today's talk points out that when we strive only for our own happiness, we get suffering instead, but if we work for the happiness of others, it not only brings them happiness, but brings us happiness as well.Today's Meditation will be Tonglen: exchanging our happiness for the happiness of others.
