No one tells you what becoming a parent actually feels like. Not the baby registry, not the birth plan—but the identity shift, the relationship changes, the loneliness, grief, and joy that cracks you open. In this solo, Lindsey shares what she genuinely wishes someone had told her before becoming a mom. From nervous system overload + sleep deprivation to partnership strain + matrescence (the emotional + psychological transformation of motherhood), Lindsey pulls back the curtain on early parenthood. This isn't about fear—it's about truth. The discomfort, the rewiring, the ego death, and the profound expansion that comes with raising a child. If you're a new mom, thinking about becoming a parent, or deep in your own identity shift in your 30s, this episode will make you feel seen. It's honest, grounding, and deeply reassuring: you're not doing it wrong—it's just that big of a transformation. We also talk about: Why motherhood expands your capacity for discomfort The nervous system rewiring that happens after having a baby Intrusive thoughts + heightened sensitivity in early motherhood Relationship changes after a baby (+ the Gottman research on partnership dips) Why you don't “go back” to your old self—and why that's freeing Matrescence + identity loss in your 30s Grieving your old life while loving your child How motherhood ruthlessly edits your priorities Perfectionism in parenting + attachment research truths Emotional availability vs. “doing it right” Loneliness in early motherhood + building your village Reparenting yourself while raising your child Resources: Instagram: @lindseysimcik Order our book, Almost 30: A Definitive Guide To A Life You Love For The Next Decade and Beyond, here: https://bit.ly/Almost30Book. How can you stay present when your brain is screaming with OCD?
How can you stop traumatic flashbacks in just one session?Intrusive memories are so common after experiencing traumatic events and are one of the hallmark features of PTSD, but what if you could take away the power of those images without having to discuss them at length in therapy? In this episode, Emily Holmes talks about a new randomised controlled trial of an imagery-competing task, where participants are taught in just one guided session to recall a traumatic memory and then use mental rotation and playing Tetris, which had a strong effect on reducing intrusive memories and PTSD symptoms. We talk about the neuroscience-informed development of this approach to trauma, and the importance of finding scalable and accessible approaches in psychological intervention research. Intrusive thoughts after infidelity can feel overwhelming, consuming, and impossible to control. In this encore episode, I walk through what intrusive thoughts really are, why they happen after betrayal, and what we can actually do about them. If you've ever gone from calm to a full emotional spiral in seconds because of a memory, a word, or a random reminder, you're not broken. You're responding to trauma. I explain the difference between the "upstairs brain" and the "basement brain," and how betrayal keeps us in survival mode longer than we realize. Most importantly, I share practical steps to slow intrusive thoughts down, understand what they're signaling, and begin healing at a deeper level instead of just trying to push them away. In this episode, I cover: Why intrusive thoughts feel so intense after infidelity How to regulate your nervous system in the moment Questions to ask yourself when a thought won't let go How to know if a thought needs processing or reassurance What it looks like to co-regulate safely with your partner You don't have to live at the mercy of intrusive thoughts. There is something underneath them that can be healed. If this episode resonates with you, I'd love for you to reach out and let me know what landed. The Silent Battle For Your Mind: Torment | The Todd Coconato Show Website: www.PastorTodd.org To give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Today on The Todd Coconato Show Title: The Silent War in Your Mind: Torment There is a battle many believers face that nobody sees. It is not always external persecution or visible opposition. It is the silent war in the mind. Fear. Accusation. Intrusive thoughts. Condemnation. Mental torment that tries to wear down faith and rob peace. On today's broadcast, we are exposing this strategy of the enemy and confronting it with the Word of God. We are going to talk about how torment operates, why the battlefield is often the thought life, and how Scripture gives us clear authority to defeat it. The Bible says we are to take every thought captive, that we have been given a sound mind, and that the One who lives in us is greater than the one who is in the world. That is not theory. That is truth you can stand on. If you have ever felt like you are fighting a battle internally that nobody understands, this show is for you. You are not alone. You are not weak. And you are not without authority. Today we are stepping into clarity, power, and freedom as we learn how to enforce the victory Christ has already won.
This episode explores the small-yet-potentially-vast world of funeral photography. When everyone we love is gathered in one place, often for the last time, what might it mean to have photographs of that moment? Is it comforting? Intrusive? Sacred? I'm joined by Nell Arbuto, founder of Minnesota Funeral Photography, who works in this niche field. Nell shares her why and her how: how she approaches families, how consent works, and what she's learned about memory, grief, and presence. Forget the blurry group shots from Uncle Bob – what if we intentionally captured the beauty, the love, and the quiet sacredness of a funeral? And what if those images became a keepsake album, not of death, but of connection? For more information on Best Life Best Death please visit our website at www.bestlifebestdeath.comFollow us on our social channels to receive pertinent and helpful resources on death, grieving, and more at:Facebook: www.facebook.com/bestlifebestdeathInstagram: www.instagram.com/bestlifebestdeath

John 14:26 — Holy Spirit, Quiet My Thoughts and Guard My Mind in the Middle of the Night From London to Toronto, Wellington, Los Angeles, Rome, New York, Singapore, and Johannesburg — the global 3 a.m. search spike rises with these exact cries: “My thoughts won't stop… Holy Spirit, please calm my mind.” John 14:26 (NIV): “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”Isaiah 26:3 (NIV): “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Holy Spirit, in these early hours when my mind races, when thoughts spiral, when fears grow louder in the dark, I call on You. These are the exact long-tail searches rising globally right now: intrusive thoughts at night, Holy Spirit calm my mind, night-time anxiety prayer, spiralling thoughts won't stop, Jesus protect my mind, panic in the early hours, prayer for mental storms, anxious thoughts won't settle, fear of tomorrow in the night, help me breathe and feel safe. Holy Spirit, quiet the noise. Let Your presence settle over me like soft peace. Slow my breathing, still my heart, calm the internal storm. Guard my mind from the thoughts that lie, overwhelm, accuse, or intimidate. Cover me with the peace that only You can give — the peace that holds firm when everything feels unstable. Where fear rises, bring courage. Where overthinking begins, bring clarity. Where panic sweeps in, bring stillness. Where exhaustion steals my strength, restore me. Where dread creeps into my imagination, silence it with the truth of Jesus. Remind me that I am held, watched over, protected, and deeply loved — even now, even here. I declare that my mind belongs to Jesus. The Holy Spirit is guarding me, filling me, steadying me, strengthening me, calming me, and covering me. Fear will not control me. Anxiety will not define me. What if the negative thoughts keeping you awake at 3 AM aren't trying to torture you—but are actually messengers with critical information about what you need most? If you've ever felt consumed by worries about money, regrets about parenting, or fears about aging, you're not alone. But according to Dr. Yasmine Saad, one of New York's top three psychologists, everything we've been taught about handling these thoughts is backwards. In this conversation, Dr. Saad reveals why midlife creates the perfect storm for mental overwhelm, how hormonal changes directly affect your thought patterns, and why fighting your negative thoughts might be the worst thing you can do. She introduces a revolutionary five-step method for decoding the messages your mind is desperately trying to send you—and why understanding these messages is the key to transformation. We dive deep into the mind-body connection through traditional Chinese medicine, exploring how physical symptoms like hives, shoulder pain, and digestive issues are directly connected to the emotions you've absorbed and the mental patterns you're running. Dr. Saad explains why meditation and positive thinking often backfire, what your "energy signature" reveals about how you should approach healing, and the critical differences between psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and coaches. This isn't another conversation about "managing" your mental health. This is about understanding why your mind works the way it does in midlife, what it's trying to tell you, and how to use that information to create the life you actually want. If you're ready to stop fighting yourself and start listening to what your mind and body are trying to communicate, this episode will change everything. Intrusive thoughts are common for new parents — but when do they cross the line into something more serious? In this episode, you'll learn how obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) latches onto what matters most — in this case, the safety and well-being of the baby — and how evidence-based treatment like exposure and response prevention (ERP) can bring relief.Joining host Gabe Howard is internationally recognized OCD and parenting expert Dr. Jenny Yip, who sheds light on perinatal and postpartum OCD. Dr. Yip explains how obsessions and compulsions can overwhelm expecting and new parents, from fears of accidentally harming the baby to overwhelming guilt about being a “bad” mom or dad. She also discusses the stigma surrounding taboo intrusive thoughts — including forbidden sexual thoughts — and how avoidance can interfere with bonding during the crucial early weeks of parenthood. Takeaways for listeners: the difference between usual parenting anxiety and perinatal or postpartum OCD common intrusive thoughts new parents experience but rarely discuss why avoidance harms bonding and increases OCD's power Whether you're a new parent, a clinician, or simply curious, this episode reveals the hidden struggles of perinatal and postpartum OCD — and the hope for recovery. “OCD will tackle whatever it is that you care about. Like no matter how hard you try to push them away, they keep coming back, louder than ever? Maybe you deal with intrusive thoughts that feel terrifying, or you constantly overthink every decision. These thoughts can feel really overwhelming and they can seem to stop you from moving forward in life, from being happy, doing your work, or building relationships. If that sounds like you, then let me teach you an exercise that can help you break free from struggling with intrusive thoughts or overthinking. It's called the Passengers on the Bus metaphor from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
