Now a substance addiction counselor, Burton explains the intersection of trauma and addiction and offers a message of profound hope for anyone feeling lost in the darkness.Key HighlightsA Tragic Turning Point: Burton recounts the heartbreaking events leading up to his wife's death and the systemic failures that preceded the tragedy. The Weight of Trauma: Moving beyond "talk therapy" to understand how trauma lives in the body and the reality of living with PTSD.The Power of Writing: How documenting his journey for eight hours a day became a lifeline and a tool for self-discovery.Gratitude vs. Joy: The shift from waiting for joy to practicing gratitude as a foundational step toward recovery.Neuroplasticity and Choice: Understanding that while we cannot "think" our way into right action, we can act our way into right thinking by rewiring the brain through healthy habits. The Wisdom of Trauma: Why Burton chose to become a substance abuse counselor and how his own pain allows him to connect deeply with his clients.During the conversation, Burton emphasizes the importance of replacing negative feedback loops with positive ones. This process leverages the brain's natural ability to change.Breaking Isolation: Moving from secrecy and shame to human connection.Nature and Awe: Finding symbols of resilience in the natural world (like a flower growing through concrete).Holistic Practice: Incorporating meditation, nutrition, and movement to support the "rewiring" of the mind.Notable Quotes"It is not joyfulness that makes us grateful. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode, we're joining Hunter, your host and Bible reading coach, for the December 19th journey through the Scriptures. Just ten days away from completing the year-long reading, we explore John chapters 5 and 6—reflecting on Jesus' miraculous healings, his powerful teaching that he is the bread of life, and the deep spiritual transformation that comes from encountering the God who is present and who is love. Hunter leads us not only through the text, but also in thoughtful prayer and personal reflection, drawing us closer to the hope, peace, and joy found in Christ. Whether you're an everyday listener or joining us for the first time, get ready to experience the transformative power of God's word as we seek to follow and partake in the bread from heaven—Jesus himself. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He is the bread from heaven. What is it that you're looking for? Where do we go when we hunger for life, when our souls thirst for meaning, hope, and transformation? In John 5 and 6, we encounter Jesus in the midst of crowds who search for healing, wholeness, and something that fills more deeply than the loaves and fishes on a hillside. He meets a man longing for restoration after thirty-eight years of brokenness, speaks words that defy the boundaries of the Sabbath, and calls himself equal with God—upending what people thought they knew about the source of life. Jesus invites us to receive something beyond the ordinary: union with the living God. "I am the bread of life," he says. "Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." This bread is not simply sustenance for the body but the very life of Christ offered for the whole world. He is the true bread—the one who has what we're truly longing for. We do not draw near to Jesus because we are especially good or worthy. We come, hungry and broken, because the Father draws us. In this season, we remember the bread, the Word, that comes down from heaven—Jesus himself. He offers his flesh so that we might share in his life, be transformed by his love, and partake in his victory over death. The Father is at work, drawing us to the one who fills our deepest need. Let us open our hearts to see Jesus for who he is—the bread from heaven, our sustainer, our source of life. Let us receive what he has offered. Let us follow him, be united to him, and find transformation in his love. This is my prayer: for my own soul, for my family, and for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Not everything in life has to spark joy. Sometimes, joy simply lives in having what you need—clean underwear, a steady paycheck, a safe home, a quiet moment to breathe. It doesn't have to be perfect to be enough. Because “Good enough” isn't the same as settling for harm; it's about recognizing what supports you right now. The wisdom lies in knowing when something's serving you and when it's time to lovingly let it go.

What if everything we've been told about the good life is completely backwards? In this exploration of the Beatitudes from Matthew 5, we're confronted with Jesus' radical redefinition of what it means to truly flourish. While our world tells us that power, wealth, and influence are the keys to happiness, Jesus turns this wisdom upside down. He declares that the powerless, the grieving, and the unimportant are actually the ones experiencing the ultimate good life. This isn't just poetic language—it's a revolutionary announcement about the kingdom of heaven breaking into our present reality. We live in the richest country in history, yet anxiety and depression are at all-time highs. We have access to endless self-help resources, yet nearly half of us report dissatisfaction with our lives. The sermon challenges us to see that real transformation doesn't come from external circumstances or self-improvement strategies, but from an internal work that only God can do. When we examine the persecuted church worldwide—believers facing death for their faith yet radiating inexplicable joy—we're forced to reckon with a truth our comfort-seeking hearts resist: the good life isn't about what we possess, but about who possesses us. Jesus isn't giving us a new set of rules to follow; he's offering us a new heart to live from.

Real faith doesn't show off in control—it shows up in surrender. In James 4 we face our biggest fight: the battle within. Pastor Peter unpacks why conflicts start in our desires, how pride pulls against God, and the 5 S's of surrender—Submit, Stand, Sit with God, Say “I'm sorry,” and Serve. Drop the rope, draw near to God, and plan around His will, not around your own.

You're doing everything right, staying productive, chasing growth, keeping up. But what if the discomfort you feel isn't a sign that you need to do more, but a signal to let go? In this episode, Charlie Gilkey and I explore the Tao Te Ching, which is one of my favorite books of all time, but not as a relic from the past, but as a guide for navigating the speed and complexities of modern life, including the rise of AI.We talk about how ancient wisdom can live side by side with new technology and how presence, simplicity, and inner alignment still matter, now more than ever,The Tao Te Ching is one of those books I keep coming back to. Ancient wisdom, wrapped in poetry, that somehow feels more relevant every year. Like this line: “If you look to others for happiness, you will never be happy. If your well-being depends on money, you will never be content.“Simple. Clear. Actually useful.I've teamed up with Rebind.ai to create an interactive edition of the Tao—forty essential verses, translated into plain, everyday language, with space to reflect, explore, and ask questions. It's like having a conversation not just with the Tao, but with me too. Alignment isn't just a buzzword—it's that elusive feeling when life flows effortlessly and you're energized by your path rather than drained by it. When was the last time you truly felt that way?In this deeply personal episode, I share my own recent struggles with misalignment and why I took a break from podcasting. Whether you're feeling stuck, unmotivated, or just "off" without knowing why, your body and spirit are sending you messages worth paying attention to.We dive into the specific signs that appear when you're out of alignment—from the mental-emotional symptoms like procrastination and anxiety to the spiritual disconnection that leaves you questioning your purpose. Most importantly, I explain how these emotional states inevitably manifest in your physical body through fatigue, pain, and disrupted sleep patterns.Rather than just identifying the problem, I offer practical, actionable tools for each type of misalignment. Learn how decluttering one small space can energetically reset your entire outlook, how tapping techniques can rewire negative self-talk, and why a simple five-minute body scan might unlock emotions you've stored for decades (including a powerful personal story about my own unexpected emotional release after 20 years). The beauty of realignment is that it doesn't require massive life overhauls—just small, consistent steps that create momentum. Your natural state is one of flow and purpose. If you're feeling anything less than that right now, this episode will guide you back to yourself with compassion, clarity, and concrete practices to implement today.Ready to rediscover what alignment feels like? Summary In the pre-conference Sunday Evening service, Pastor TJ discusses the importance of power in life, particularly in the context of faith and ministry. He emphasizes that life can drain us of energy and strength, and that true power comes from God. Through biblical references, he illustrates how individuals can find renewal and strength by binding themselves to God, who is the ultimate source of power. Chapters00:00 Introduction and Acknowledgments03:10 The Need for Power in Life15:02 The Source of Power20:50 Binding to God for StrengthTakeaways Life drains people of strength and energy. Power is not stagnant; it flows and moves. Relationships and ministry can be draining. God is the sole distributor of power. Real power comes from the creator of life. We need to admit our weakness to God. Binding ourselves to God brings strength. God's power enables us to change and endure. Waiting on the Lord means binding ourselves to Him. God has all the power we need for life. Sound Bites "We need power to function properly." "God gives power to the weak." "Real power only comes from God." "God is my strength and power." "God has all the power you need."
